Jan & Dean "Anthology Album" 2xLP. To me, Jan & Dean are criminally underrated and don't get enough respect for their contributions to rock or the DIY ethos of punk. Yes, Jan Berry had a formula and he generally stuck to it, but hell, his rocknroll career was practically a hobby. He was in medical school, studying to be a doctor when he had his accident and Dean got a degree in advertising design and ended up being a successful graphic designer of album covers (including this one). But yeah, these guys rules. I love the music, their humor, and approach. Their story is fascinating. Even just a read of their wikipedia page will wow most people. On This Day in History July 20, 1963: The surfer song by Jan and Dean (Jan Berry and Dean Torrence) hits number one on the pop charts. In doing so, this was the first ever surfing song to hit number one on the pop charts. Now if you thought that this song was a Beach Boys song, don't feel bad. I did as well. The song does have roots with the Beach Boys. The song was written by Jan Berry and Brian Wilson.
