Well, I finally finished my latest painting collage project. The idea of taking an old unfinished painting, and incorporating it into a new collage painting worked out perfectly! I’m very pleased with the results, and ready to share with all of you. Just as I did with my other paintings, I started with a paper collage base, then layered the collage with an abstract painting of color. Next is the various layers of the subject, a combination of detailed painting with accessories (such as metal and fabric), then finish it off with glitter. But most importantly, is the few layers of resin in between and as the finish. This provides the additional depth and shine to the painting. Such fun! Don’t look at failure as defeat. Defeat is seems more permanent – the end. Failure is more about learning to try again, but with more understanding and clarity. Meaning, don’t make the same mistake twice. In life, we suffer from more failures than successes. Just look at sports, specifically baseball. Just think about how many times a batter will strike out before he gets a base hit. Better yet, think about how many times a batter has to hit before he gets a homerun. Does it make the ball player a loser, a failure, less than good as a player? Absolutely not. The Serenity Prayer is one of my very favorites, and one that I remind myself of frequently. I recently learned the full version of this important prayer, and thought I would share it with you today. The full version of this powerful prayer composed in the 1940’s by Reinhold Neibuhr. . . God grant me the serenity To accept the things I cannot change; . . Courage to change the things I can; . . And wisdom to know the difference. . . Living one day at a time; . . Enjoying one moment at a time; . . Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; . . Taking, as He did, this sinful world As it is, not as I would have it; . . Trusting that He will make all things right . . If I surrender to His Will; . . I recently painted this angel for a very close friend of mine as a birthday gift. 🎁 . 🎨🖌🎨🖌🎨 . I used the mixed media collage techniques that I have been, by creating a small-scale paper collage over canvas using glue and gel medium. Next, I used the acrylic paint pour medium technique to create the background colors for the painting. The angel was made by taking several cutout pieces of canvas paper, and layering them over the painted background. The details were then painted over top of the collage pieces with acrylic, paint markers, and glitter. Next, jewelry pieces and ribbon fabric were glued on the painting for accent and texture. A final layer of resin was poured over top to seal and enhance the features and colors of the painting. 🖼 . 🖌🎨🖌🎨🖌 . I added a nice ribbon so that my friend could easily hang the painting where she’d like to. This painting, although simple, is special to me as it’s of an angel, which my friend represents to me. Passing judgement is basically expressing your strong disapproval of something or someone. Although judgement can and does have its place when strategizing on what decisions to make about something or someone for a purpose or task; ultimately, judgment has no place in gratitude and peace of mind, as it creates energy and focus on those things we distrust or are insecure about; or possibly leaving us to dwell on past experiences, instead of learning from them and moving on. . 🎨🖌🎨🖌🎨 . Forgiveness means that you’ve made peace with the pain, and you are ready to let it go. Forgiveness is not about something we do for others, it’s really something we do for ourselves. By allowing yourself to forgive someone or something is not stating that you condone the behavior or action. It simply means that you will not allow yourself to stay trapped within the pain and negative thoughts that prevent you from living a happy and joyful life. Happiness is what we make it. That doesn’t mean that life is lived pain free. It’s simple not that way! . 🖌🎨🖌🎨🖌 . Survival is hard, no matter how simple or challenging we make it or live it. Each day we learn something new. Each day we experience something new. Each day we conquer some pain of some sort, and experience joy of some sort. It could be a small thing, or incredibly large and long lasting. Either way, you choose your path by your reaction, by the focus of your thoughts. You may not be able to control all of it, but if you can focus on how to live through it, you can find joy in your existence. Desmond Tutu has a quote, “Without forgiveness, there’s no future.” This goes right along with the quote by TD Jakes about forgiveness and empowerment. Don’t allow yourself to become in prisoned by the hurt and anger that either others or yourself have brought on upon yourself. Once you relieve yourself of the anger, hurt, and guilt, and realign your thoughts with positivity and focus, that allows yourself to feel free and be empowered to move on with faith and certainty “that this too shall pass.” Forgiveness isn’t about accepting that what has happened is okay. Forgiveness is about releasing the wasted energy and learn from the experience, so that you too can move forward freely with confidence and assurance, that nothing can stop you from living your passion. Today’s post features my latest three paintings that are actually featured as one painting. These paintings are also the last of the current experimental paintings that I have been working on from my portable garage studio – which is now officially closed. I’ve moved back inside. . 🎨🖌🎨🖌🎨 . This set of three is different, as I experimented with resin, and creating layers using the resin. So it’s been quite fun! The materials included: Paper Collage, glue, acrylic medium base. Acrylic pouring medium with acrylic paint background color. . 🖌🎨🖌🎨🖌 . Each painted subject layer is done on canvas paper, which has been cut to shape, glued on the surface, then painted with acrylic paint, and covered with resin. There is a total of 5 layers, which creates the various dimensions and textures for each painted panel. Additional details are added between each layer, using paint markers, and an acrylic wash. Before the final layer of resin is added, glitter is used to highlight the various areas, as well as acrylic paint stenciling. The final layer of resin is thicker than the other layers to finish off and seal each painted panel. . 🎨🖌🎨🖌🎨 . This one is a combination of different pinks, reds, purples, as well as gold, and shimmery glitter. As with the other paint pour paintings, once the piece is dry, I varnish it with a pouring glaze, to bring out some of the shine. This is my second pouring piece; of the four experimental paintings I’m doing with this technique. This one is a combination of strong colors, including blues, blacks, gold, pinks, and ivory.
