My latest paintings are a set of abstract collage paintings, over gallery-wrapped canvases. I started with a paper and acrylic gel medium base on both, then added a layer of gold acrylic paint, with some added textures. Then I covered the painted base layers with resin. During the dry time of the first resin layer, I created two paint-pour paintings over canvas paper, then cut shapes out of them. In addition, I painted two more pieces of canvas paper with black acrylic paint, and cut-out similar shapes to the paint-pour ones, as well. . 🎨🖌🎨🖌🎨 . Once the resin layer was dried, I glued the black shapes to the canvases, and added yet another layer of resin. Once the second resin layer was dried, I glued the paint-pour shapes over the black shapes, and on areas of the canvases. I then covered that layer with more resin. I added an additional layer of resin, so I could sprinkle a combination of metal pieces, beads, and glitter. Once all the pieces were dried, I added my final layer of resin to the canvases. It took about 2 to 3 days for the paintings to be completely dry, and ready to share. . 🖌🎨🖌🎨🖌 . What do you think? The cool thing about these two paintings, is that depending upon the reflection of light and angle, the paintings change character quite a bit. I love the resin with the layers, it gives such texture. I’m truly enjoying this style of painting, as well as trying out more abstract designs. Hope you like them. It’s amazing how some days the ideas and inspiration just flow, allowing for an abundance of incredible works of art to be produced. Yet other times, in can seem grueling just to figure out where to start, how to start, and what to start. . 🖌🎨🖌🎨🖌 . So, how do you keep a more steadily flow of creativity? Well, make time for yourself to do so. This means, make your creative flow your priority. Especially if that’s what you do for a living. Be consistent with providing yourself the right tools, inspiration, and mindset, that you keep your creative pathways open. 😊 . 🎨🖌🎨🖌🎨 . Sometimes this is easier said than done. Especially, if life gets in the way (rather, you get in the way of yourself). So, on that note, days that you can’t be as “creatively” inclined to produce what you know you want to and should, continue with the excerise of creating anyway. It’s like exercising. You need to keep at it, to build up a healthier and more fit you. In between projects, I’ve been playing around with different techniques and ideas. I had recently purchased some small canvases at a great discount, and thought I’d create a few sets of abstract, ambiguous women, with my typical layers of collage, paint, paper, jewelry – and of course, glitter! . 🖌🎨🖌🎨🖌 . The unique difference with these experiments, is that I used canvas paper to create the shapes, and layered them over the painted canvas, then added all the additional layers to the paintings. . 🎨🖌🎨🖌🎨 . The first set featured in this post, is called “Keys to the Universe.” The skin tone was a result of a paint pour layer over the canvas paper. The hair was made from curly ribbon. I also used canvas paper to create additional shapes that were placed outside the canvas, as well as on it. Once completed, I sealed them with resin. I then gifted this set to the curator of the Vertigo Art Gallery, who has given me great opportunities. A few posts back, I shared a paint pour design, over one side of a wood cutting board. The colors were beautiful, and looked great on a variety of my POD products I sale online. This past week, I decided to do another paint pour, using the other side of the wood cutting board. This time, I used darker colors, reminiscent of Fall. The other day while working on my latest commissioned piece, I looked down at the canvas tarp I started using when I first began painting this past year. The many painted squares was a reflection of my accomplishments, as a result of picking up a brush and ainting again. I’m so proud of myself for not stopping, and truly going with the flow. I seem to be truly happiest when I can create, and feel free with my expression on canvas or cardboard, or the floor...lol...or whatever object or medium I choose. I’m looking forward to adding more paint and shapes to this tarp, and I hope that through time I can continue to look at it and feel good that I’m staying within my element, and not letting go of this artistic passion I have. 😊 . 🎨🖌🎨🖌🎨 . We base our immediate interpretation through our sensory on what we know of something – what we have learned, and experienced. However, our impression or “perception”, sees beyond the obvious, whether imagined, exaggerated, or not. For instance, at first glance of a painting, you see paint strokes on canvas. But what you may perceive is this masterpiece of beauty and mystery, which brings a variety of feelings and thoughts, that only you may get from viewing this painting. . 🖌🎨🖌🎨🖌 . The point of the quote, which I believe is important for us to survive and be happy, is that what and how you perceive something in life is more important than what we have seen or see from first view. I’m currently working on a big commissioned piece for a friend, so I haven’t had a lot of time to free-paint. However, as a stress reliever last week, I took an old, un-used wood cutting board, and did some paint pouring. What fun this was! I haven’t even finished the piece, or covered it with resin. But the patterns I got from the first side turned out super cool! I’m actually using various parts of the paint pour design for some POD products that I feature in my online stores. Check it out! “What to do with leftover paint-pour cuttings? I know, let’s make a mosaic!” 😉 Sunrise Mosaic is an abstract collage painting, and the latest in my collection of work. To create the mosaic look, I took the scraps from my last two abstract collage paintings, and cut them into small pieces. Before adding the layer of mosaic, I painted a thin base of glitter gray, then I did my usual process of paper collage, then another base layer of acrylic. Then I added a layer of paint pour medium, and used that as the glue for the mosaic pieces. Once the mosaic layer was on, I added more pouring medium, and then glitter. Of course, I finished the piece with a full layer of acrylic pouring medium, and then let it dry completely. . 🎨🖌🎨🖌🎨 . The painting came out beautifully, and was immediately taken by my close friend, and collector. I’m thinking about creating more pieces like this, as they are unique, fun, and free! Well, I finally finished my latest painting collage project. The idea of taking an old unfinished painting, and incorporating it into a new collage painting worked out perfectly! I’m very pleased with the results, and ready to share with all of you. Just as I did with my other paintings, I started with a paper collage base, then layered the collage with an abstract painting of color. Next is the various layers of the subject, a combination of detailed painting with accessories (such as metal and fabric), then finish it off with glitter. But most importantly, is the few layers of resin in between and as the finish. This provides the additional depth and shine to the painting. Such fun! “Quality of life rests in the balance.” So, what does balance mean to you? It’s important to put that into perspective for yourself, and work towards living that balance. Only then, can you truly achieve happiness, and a feeling of peace and acceptance, in all areas of your life. . 🖌🎨🖌🎨🖌 . For me balance is the ability to make time for those things that are important to me, and to prioritize accordingly. This can change from week to week, or day to day, depending upon what my goal is for that time. Family, work, and personal development are all important to me, so making sure I have time to effectively “have it all” is key to my sanity. Let’s throw in health and wellness too. As an example, In the art classroom, each student may have to draw the same subject. But that doesn’t of that subject is. So, it’s not about representing what is obvious about a subject. mean that each student replicates the subject, no matter how detailed. We as artists, regardless style and form, express how we interpret the subject; how it impacts us or doesn’t, and what we see or wish to see in the subject.
