The Lizzie Borden Case: A List of Strange Occurrences And Happenings Worthy of Note (Part 1)
~ Tensions between Abby and Emma/Lizzie were high. Lizzie referred to Abby as a “mean good-for-nothing thing” in March of 1892.
~ The dispute between Emma/Lizzie and Abby when Andrew bought Abby’s half sister the property the sister and her husband were residing in (the sister owned half and her mother owned the other half and wanted to sell... the half-sister could not afford to buy her mother’s share), put it in Abby’s name, and allowed Abby’s half-sister and her husband to continue living there free of rent.
~ Emma promising her mother on her deathbed to take care of “Baby Lizzie”; possible grooming of Lizzie?
~ The robbery a year before the Bordens were found murdered: Money, gold, streetcar tickets, and items of sentimental value were taken in the middle of the day (none of the household members heard a sound)
~ There were food poisonings 2 nights before the murders.Swordfish left the elder Bordens with severe food poisoning and Lizzie/Bridget with mild symptoms (Emma being out of town). The night before the murders a dinner of mutton stew left the household- with the exception of Lizzie- ill again.
~ The night before the murders Lizzie visited old neighbor/friend Alice Russell and said she thought the milk was being poisoned… and felt that “somebody” was going to “do something”
~ There is also Lizzie’s alleged attempt to buy prussic acid the day before the Bordens were murdered (later there was reasonable doubt as an inspector’s wife had asked a different store for the same thing on the same date… and was said to resemble Lizzie).
~ Lizzie was supposed to be out of town during the time of the murders visiting friends. Instead she postponed it to fulfill supposed secretary-treasurer duties for the Christian Endeavor Society at a meeting on Sunday. She supposedly sent a letter explaining her decision to other members of the society… The recipient burned the letter after the murders so that Lizzie’s actions would not be misconstrued. When questioned the recipient said very little about the letter, and none of the other women in the society would talk to the police.
~ Lizzie’s relationship with her father is also on the table… She stated she sometimes had to ask 2-3 times for money or favors, but usually received what she wanted… She was dissatisfied with her lot in life (receiving a spinster’s sum of $4 a week from Andrew who in today’s world would have been worth $10 million). Lizzie attended a church higher in society with which Andrew had had a real estate dispute with years before (resulting in him renting a pew at a more “modest” church).
~ Lizzie’s frustration with not living better or being on The Hill while Andrew simply hoarded his money (neither for spending nor social recognition on his part)
~ Abby, a 5’ tall 200 lb. woman, fell upstairs when she was struck down with 19 blows. Bridget was outside washing the windows and speaking to a neighboring maid…. But why did Lizzie not hear her fall… or at the very least hear some sort of noise…?
~ Lizzie calls Dr. Seabury Bowen and ignores the fact that 2 other doctors (Dr. Kelly and Dr. Chagnon) lived on her street… This may have been due to the fact that these doctors were Catholics while the Bordens were Protestants (no previous friendliness etc.).
~ The fact that Lizzie was heard laughing as she descended the staircase when Bridget said something funny as Lizzie’s father returned to the Borden house right after Abby would have been murdered. Bridget’s testimony later lined up with Lizzie’s descent of the staircase which would have put her in the line of sight of Abby’s body in the bedroom… Lizzie initially denied being upstairs and changed her story later saying that she HAD gone upstairs but only for a “few minutes.”
~ Lizzie’s change of clothes from blue clothing to a pink dress after the murders
~ The fact that there was at least an hour between the murders of Abby and Andrew- meaning that an assassin outside the household would have had to hide during that time and find their way downstairs to murder Andrew without being seen.
~ Lizzie’s initial story that Abby was out of the house after having received a note from a sick friend
~ The fact that when Alice Russell and Adelaide Churchill were with Lizzie (after discovering Andrew and sending for Bowen), Lizzie stated that Abby might have come home early
~ No note was ever found, no one came forward to state that they had indeed sent a note to Abby, no delivery-boy stepped forward to say one had been delivered, and the fact that no one saw Abby return home after said trip out cast doubt on Lizzie’s claim.
~ John V. Morse’s (Lizzie’s and Emma’s uncle) alibi was confirmed by a relative he was visiting and Dr. Bowen who was attending on said relative when Dr. Bowen was called back to the Borden house… It was strange that Morse was able to recall his streetcar number and the number on the streetcar conductor’s cap in such fine detail.
~ Even though Lizzie didn’t have food poisoning symptoms the night before the murders, she told Abby she wasn’t planning on having dinner the day of the murders… but during the murders she supposedly went to look for a sinker for fishing equipment in the barn (random?) and ate some pears up there that she gathered from the family’s fruit trees. She would have been in the one place that didn’t have a good view of the comings/goings of the household.
~ A convenient time for a crime as most of the police force was gone for their annual picnic near Providence, RI
~ Dr. Bowen’s protectiveness of Lizzie… even shutting the door in policemen’s faces to give her a moment to compose herself
~ Dr. Bowen’s strange burning of scraps of paper he seemed to be trying to piece back together… When asked about what he was doing he said it was a letter from his daughter. Officer Harrington, who caught a glimpse, said he saw Emma’s name on the burning paper… Dr. Bowen’s daughter’s name was Florence.
~ The pail of bloody rags that were found soaking in the wash cellar (Dr. Bowen provided a medical explanation for those)... Bridget had not noticed the pail until that day and that it could not have been there two days prior or she would have seen it as she put the contents in the wash that day.
~ Andrew Borden asked Emma to provide him with information on how she could be contacted by telegraph while she was visiting her friends… almost as if he had a sense something was going to happen.
~ Lizzie’s eerie statement after Adelaide ascended the stairs and glimpsed Abby: “O, I shall have to go to the cemetery by myself now.”
~ Lizzie’s lack of emotion while being questioned
~ Lizzie’s roundabout way of answering questions and often stating she did not understand simple questions
~ Lizzie’s last words under oath concerning a “shadowy” figure she saw lurking about the house a couple weeks before the murders; she was not able to provide specific dates or times for these sightings
~ Alice Russell said that initially Lizzie told her she went to the barn for some tin or lead to fix a window screen… not for sinkers
~ There was a testimony from a seamstress who stated that Lizzie, among other things, had said she and Emma did not usually eat with the elder Bordens... and would often wait until they were finished to go and eat themselves.
~ The warrant for Lizzie’s arrest only mentioned Andrew Borden
~ Lizzie received special treatment in her cell as her keeper was the mother of a childhood friend (Mrs. Wright).
~ The matron at the jail where Lizzie stayed prior to and during her trial overheard Emma and Lizzie talking… Lizzie allegedly said, “Emma, you’ve given me away.” Emma replied: “I only told Mr. Jennings [one of Lizzie’s lawyers] what I thought he ought to know.” Andrew Jennings finds out and tries to get the matron to sign a statement saying that she will not speak about the quarrel. She refuses and goes to City Marshall Hilliard… Hilliard advises her not to sign the statement and to wait to testify.

And also if I have to choose what I perform in reality select, then probably I am compelled so to select, and can not rather be considered morally responsible for my selection. It is extremely possible, after that, to accept something like the "Concept of Different Possibilities", according to which a representative is morally responsible for an action only if he could have done otherwise. If is true, then moral duty needs free choice; and if causal determinism dismiss such different opportunities, it would therefore dismiss ethical obligation.

Some probate specialists and solicitors charge an hourly rate while others charge a fee that is a percentage of the value of the estate. This fee is usually calculated as between 1% to 5% of the value of the estate, plus VAT.
Nonetheless, the hope is that many will see this as a chance to aid their preferred cause. The advocate of PAP believes that the lack of the flexibility to choose or else does not by itself explain the lack of moral duty. see this page is because he thinks that when this absence acquires, its getting is itself discussed by, and can only be described by, the event of causal determinism in the actual series of events. The Concept of Alternate Possibilities and also the Frankfurt-type Instances. As I recommended above, we normally think that the future is a garden of forking courses-- that we a minimum of at some essential points in our lives have more than one path branching into the future.
It's after that inspected by a Farewill will specialist, who'll send you a web link to download your finished will, which you'll need to print, sign and also have actually observed. As soon as you more than happy and have actually authorized it, Co-op shops your will. As soon as you have actually done what you can, you'll obtain a follow-up phone call from a specialist will writer. You make use of an on-line layout, which is after that examined by Co-op Legal Solutions.
What To Expect From Your Lawyer
As soon as this impression is revealed, one's initial conviction that the absence of an alternate choice is sufficient for the lack of ethical duty is vindicated. There can be two various ways in which some variable makes a representative unable to select or do or else. In one way, the factor does not play a role in the actual sequence; it does not flow with the real program of occasions. In one more means, the element does move through the actual series.

Family urges DPP to pursue 'body in the bath' retrial
Updated September 26, 2018 18:22:35 The family of Anna-Jane Cheney, who was found dead in the bath of her Adelaide home in 1994, has asked the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to pursue a retrial of her fiance Henry Keogh. Key points:The family of Anna-Jane Cheney has questioned a $2.57 million payment to Henry KeoghHis murder conviction over the 1994 case was quashed in 2014Her family is calling on the DPP for an immediate retrial Mr Keogh who has maintained his innocence throughout told the ABC he felt he had nothing "constructive" to add to the discussion at this time. His conviction for Ms Cheney's murder was overturned in 2014 by the Court of Criminal Appeal, after it found there had been a miscarriage of justice due to flawed forensic evidence provided by Dr Colin Manock. The court directed a retrial but said it was "a matter for the Director [of Public Prosecutions] to determine how the matter should proceed". In July, Attorney-General Vickie Chapman revealed the SA Government would pay $2.57 million in compensation to Mr Keogh, who spent almost 20 years in jail. The lawyer for Ms Cheney's family, Greg Griffin, today made a statement questioning why the Government had decided to compensate Mr Keogh without consulting the Cheney family. "Why did the Government pay $2.57 million as an ex gratia payment to Mr Keogh when he was never acquitted of the charge he was originally convicted of?" he said. "The Attorney-General needs to explain, and needs to produce, all the documents and the reports she says justified the payment." Retrial 'the only way' family will get closure Almost a year after Mr Keogh's conviction was overturned, DPP Adam Kimber dropped the murder charge. Last month, South Australia's Police Commissioner Grant Stevens told a parliamentary committee it would be an "understatement" to say that Mr Keogh remained a person of interest in the case. Mr Griffin said the family was now asking Mr Kimber to consider a retrial. "Then and only then can the decision of the Government to make the ex gratia payment to Mr Keogh be properly reviewed," Mr Griffin said. "The retrial is the only way they'll get closure."
Tumblr media
Photo: Henry Keogh was released from prison in 2014 after his conviction was overturned. (ABC News: Isabel Dayman) Premier Steven Marshall said the Government had already made a "fulsome explanation of our reasoning behind the payment that was made". "The Government doesn't instruct the court to hold a retrial," he said. "The courts made their decision, the Government needs to respond accordingly, we've done that. "We've made a huge number of comments on this case in the Parliament, both in the estimates process and in question time previously."
Tumblr media
Photo: Greg Griffin spoke on behalf of the Cheney family. (ABC News: Simon Royal) Mr Marshall said a retrial would "be a matter for the family and for the court, not the Government". "This is a tragic chapter in the state's history. What we're wanting to do is to rule a line under this so the family can move forward," he said. "These are complex issues. Nobody's saying that they're easy. "But it was important to rule a line under this. Now some people are not going to be satisfied, I fully understand that." Today's public statement on behalf of the Cheney family was prompted by an article published by News Corp by former Today Tonight journalist Graham Archer. Mr Griffin said the article had "caused great distress" to the Cheney family. He said a civil action over Ms Cheney's deceased estate would begin "within the next one to two months" and the family wanted to recover autopsy photographs, which he said were being used illegally by media outlets. AUGUSTUS WALKER ( Josh Henderson ) is looking for his SIBLINGS. This connection is OPEN to be taken. Please contact Tee HERE before submitting an application.
Character Name:
Ultimately UTP. I have this idea in my head that because their parents are very traditional and in politics, that they chose traditional/conventional first names for their children. Some suggestions might be (pls remember to check the taken character names):
Sisters — Sophia, Ava, Katherine, Madison, Lucinda, Alexandra, Ella, Rebecca, Natasha, Lillian, Delilah, Laura, Chloe, Alice, Nora, Amelia, Elisabeth and Josephine.  Brother — Benjamin, Ethan, James, Christopher, Jacob, Daniel, Nathan, Henry, Everett, Greyson, Theodore and Samuel.
Age Range: (approximate)
Older sister: 35-36. Older brother: 34. Younger sister: 29-30.
Face-claim:
They don’t have to look exactly alike, because I imagine one of their parents having darker features than Josh Henderson’s. But, I’m open to ideas, too. These are just some suggestions to help you and subject to who is available on the taken list at the time <3 Older Sister — Rachel McAdams, Emily Blunt, Olivia Wilde, Rachael Taylor, Emily van Camp, Lauren Cohan, Meghan Ory, Shantel Vansanten.
Brother — Drew Van Acker, Derek Theler, Chris Pine, Jesse Metcalfe (i mean), Channing Tatum, Tom Hardy, Chris Hemsworth, Chace Crawford, Chad Michael Murray, Henry Cavill, Stephen Amell. Younger Sister — Amanda Seyfried, Adelaide Kane, Claire Holt, Dianna Agron, Teresa Palmer, Gabriella Wilde.
Connection:
His siblings!
Background and Information:
Basically, I’m looking to complete the Walker fam bam with an older sister, older brother, and younger sister for Gus. Here’s some background info that might give you an insight into the Walker family.
FAMILY HOME: The Walker family grew up on a gorgeous estate (think will’s house in the last song ok) in Lakewood Shores, Westport, and their parents remain there despite their politician father being a little more busy these days. Your characters can live anywhere in Westport! Or maybe they’re only returning to Westport (from wherever) for the wedding month, too, but find a reason to stay for a while? PARENTS: Stephen Walker is the senator of Georgia and currently resides with his doctor wife, Caroline Walker, in Westport — as they have for the past forty odd years. Their family has always been involved in politics and in maintaining a ‘perfect’ public image.
The following are JUST ideas to spark some inspiration, and what I have in mind.. BUT I am more than open to hearing your own ideas regarding any of them!!! Take them and get carried away and go wild AF. The only thing I will request is that Gus be the black sheep of the family as he’s continuously compared to his siblings on a regular basis.
TW: mentions of death, car accident
OLDER SISTER: The eldest sister is about to get married in a month or so. That canalways change dependant upon the kind of storyline you wish to have. Maybe they end up separating, or her partner cheats on her, or she cheats on them! Who knows. Considering she’s the eldest, I see her as the most responsible aside from the other brother. She is just as much the prodigy as the brother. And, I’d say she has a good career — something their dad would be proud of.
OLDER BROTHER: Pretty much the golden child in that he’s the son their dad hoped Gus would be. Maybe he’s a doctor like their mom or a politician like their dad, or a journalist.. either way, their dad praises them continuously. Gus has a pretty good relationship with his brother but, it’s a little tainted by the jealousy he often feels considering his brother’s always gotten all the attention. Plus, I imagine his brother to be completely charming, ‘the good guy’ sorta thing.
AUGUSTUS: Gus is a lawyer and has been residing in New York ever since he completed his double degree at Yale. He’s JUST returned to town for his sister’s wedding and will be sticking around ‘cause he gets offered a partnership position. Gus was always the black sheep of the family, having rebelled most of his life until his intelligence started to translate unto paper in his junior and senior year of HS. He has a rocky relationship with their dad and you can read more about him here. He’s a total mommy’s boy, and loves his siblings V much!!!
YOUNGER SISTER: Daddy’s little girl. In my eyes she’s very much the ‘babydoll’ aesthetic, where even if she’s impure in any way, their parents think the sun shines out of her ass. She can get away with anything tbh, but I see her as bubbly and uber sweet but.. take this character as far as you’d like ‘cause I can totally see a duplicitous nature with this one!
YOUNGER BROTHER ( deceased ): Basically, just days after Gus’ graduation from high school as Valedictorian, he was on a high, having been accepted into early entry to Yale and.. he was mucking around and being distracting with his little brother, Eric, whilst their eldest sister was driving in the front. One wrong turn as a result of said distractions rendered a loss in the family Gus is still getting over. Eric was just 12 when he lost his life. Read more about it in his bio <33 but your character can either deep down resent Gus for it like perhaps their dad does, or maybe they don’t blame him at all.
Extra:
