After the briefing, Gavin went down to the evidence archive, where the malfunctioning android labeled "The Park Avenue Deviant" was stored alongside various other murder weapons.
Susan Miller, the DPD's system administrator and, after the death of officer Deckart, android overseer, went to work repairing the damaged device.
Susan: "What do we need the Park Avenue deviant in working condition for again?"
Tumblr media
Gavin: Just an android. It can be bought... sold... destroyed... and repaired again.
Gavin: "Huh? You were saying?"
Tumblr media
Susan: "I can read this unit's memory out on my computer. There's no need to interrogate it same as we would a human suspect."
Gavin: "But we neither have the time to watch four years worth of videos in first person, nor do we have the CIA's video analyzing equipment. Trust me, a couple of threats and a punch in whatever passes as the stomach is the more efficient approach."
Susan: "Another android could watch the footage on high speed and tell us the highlights. A secretary model like Rika could do so easily. C'mon, Gav, what's your game?"
Tumblr media
Gavin: "I just want a butler for my new team and we have this perfectly good one lying 'round here. Why let it go to waste?"
Susan: "Yeah, no, "perfectly good" looks different. Getting this one running again will take work. It'll cost almost as much as a new PL600, too."
Tina: "We'll stop prying the moment you put us on that new team of yours. The one with the twenty years job security."
Susan: "But take Chris in my place! I like being admin, but I'd sleep better if he was off the patrol car and behind a detective's desk."
Tumblr media
Gavin: "...alright. Me, Chris Miller, Tina Chen and Dean PL600 it is for Detroit, plus whoever Windsor wants to send."
Tina: "I wonder what Daniel will say to all this."
Susan: "Daniel?"
Tina: "A ghostly friend of ours. He likes androids a lot. He even speaks of equal rights for them... Hey! Are you doing this for DANNY, perchance?"
Gavin: "I can say with confidence that I'm doing this 100% for Daniel, haha!"
---
So far only Gavin and Sophie know Daniel's backstory. Tina hasn't even realized that he is an android, and neither have the Renegades. The officers Finnegan and Lewis briefly knew while they were unconscious, but forgot upon waking up.

Disclosure: This is something I've had in the works since I joined the fandom. I have huge fascination with vampires and the amount of Vampiric like references I got from the game(strength, speed, Markus drinking Thirium that was from a shut down android, ECT.) It got me thinking. Why not do a fic where it's Detroit become human, but instead of androids, it's vampires. I don't want to say anything else cause it'll spoil what I have in mind, but yeah enjoy! :)

Detroit: Midnight

"Negotiator in sight, I repeat, negotiator on sight."
Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap, tap.
"Captain Allen Wilson. My name is Connor. I was sent by the Detroit Investigation Unit to assist with the case." Wilson sighed. "He'll shoot at anyone who tries to stay outside to negotiate." Connor look around before placing his attention back to Captain Wilson.
"Do we know about his emotional behavior?" Connor started. "what do we know about his occupation and his relationship with the hostage and his or her family?" The swat captain sighed and shook his head before turning around and facing Connor. "Listen," Wilson started. "we don't know anything about his life or the hostage, nor do I care. Either you can take of him and hostage or I will." Connor didn't say a word and waited for the Captain to turn back around. Connor would begin to look around the crime scene. He'd walk straight only to go into what he seemed to be the child's room. As he entered the room he saw a desk with an unlocked tablet.
Connor picked up the tablet that belonged to the girl, the hostage. He'd see that there was a video open. He'd hit play.
"This is Daniel! The best nanny in the world! Say hi Daniel!"
"Hello!"
The video would end. "Daniel.." Connor would say to himself. As he began to examine for of the room, the faint sound of music would fill his ears. He would look down to find a pair of headphones with music blaring from it. "The child couldn't hear the gunshots..." He noted softly out loud.
Connor would leave the bedroom and would go into the living only to be met with what was the body that belonged to the father of the hostage.
"John Phillips." Said an officer, who stood a few feet away from where Connor crouched to examine the body. "He's been shot 3 times." Said Connor. Connor squinted his eyes, finding an unnerving discovery. "Theres a bite wound, it looks as if his throat was almost ripped out." Connor said before standing. "There's this new drug called Midnight." "Midnight?" Asked Connor. "Apparently it grants you immortality, at least that's what they say and think it does." Said the officer. "They take it like heroine. They shoot it into their veins thinking they'll get a high out of it, only to wake up days later, almost like a monster."
Connor looked to the balcony before hearing a man yelling, telling people to stay back. As Connor began walking to the balcony, he noticed a body fi an officer. Antony Deckart is shown on the officer's name tag on his vest.
Blam!
"Stay back! Don't come any closer or I'll jump!"
Connor looked up passed the gap if the curtains, only to see who might be Daniel. He was holding the little girl in his arms, standing on the edge of the building.
Connor would look down and would the gun if the deceased officer. He would grab the gun, sliding it into his holster.
Connor stood up and began to walk to the balcony. As soon as he touched the curtains, Daniel shot at Connor's shoulder. "Stay back! I'll jump if you come any closer!" Yelled out Daniel. Connor took a step through the curtains and was now on the balcony.
"Hello, Daniel! My name is Connor!" I'm not here to hurt you! I only was to help!" Connor said as loud as he could over the helicopter. "Don't shoot! I need you to trust and put the girl down!" Demanded Connor. "I'll jump if you try anything, I'll jump off this building, and I'll take her with me!" Daniel threatened, before holding the girl off the building before bringing her back and placing the gun back to her head.
Connor began to take a few steps forward and moved a chair out of his way. When he moved the chair he'd see a wounded officer. "Look at what your doing! These people have lives and families to go home to!" Connor would point to the wounded officer. "He's going to die if I don't place pressure on his wound! I'm going to place a tourniquet!" Connor would crouch and go to examine the officer, only for Daniel to shoot on the ground, barely grazing Connor's hand. "Don't touch him! You doing anything, and I'll kill you!"
Connor ignored Daniel and placed the tourniquet with his tie. Connor would then stand and take a step closer to Daniel and the hostage. "Just let the girl go, and I promise you, they won't hurt you." Connor said as he continued taking steps forward. Daniel would go to speak only to groan loudly and wave his gun around. "I can't take it that sound anymore! Make them go away!!" Demanded Daniel. Connor waved his hand, stating that the scene was under control. The helicopter then went away.
"Do you have a gun?" Asked Daniel. "I don't have a gun, you can trust me!" Connor lied. "You have to let her go, it's for your own good!" "What good do I have!" Yelled Daniel. "They lied to me, told me I was family! They tried to replace me by telling me the contract ran out!" Connor took a few more steps forward. "Don't come no closer! I only draw the cards! I chose how I can be free!" Daniel said.
The girl's scream echoed through the building, Connor failing to grab the girl in time, watching off the side of the building as the two fell to their deaths.
SCREEEEEEeeee-!
Connor hunched over and covered his ears at the screeching alarm went off. He ran inside to find out what caused only to be launched hitting his head as he hit the ground.
Crackle...crackle, crackle. Pop!
....thud..
Connor opened his eyes, only to be met with a fiery aftermath. Connor struggled to stand, but managed. Connor looked around hoping to find other survivors burning in the debris, him being the only one sickened him. Connor struggled to walk as his head was swimmy after the fall. As he finally found the fire exit, part of the ceiling landed on Connor, trapping his legs.
Connor cried out, begging for help from anybody, hoping at least a singular soul could hear him. After merely seconds, Connor would black out from the burning pain that engulfed his body.
__November 7th, 2038 // 6:52pm__
"This was the only body we could recover. Connor Arkay. Detective at the Detroit Police department, 28 years old, 75kg, 165 pounds."
A man would flick a syringe full of red liquid before inserting a needle into the vein of Connor's arm.
"Ready?"
"If this saved Chloe and showed me that immortality is real, then you know, I'm ready."
Said a voice before injecting the liquid into Connor's vein. His burns and gashes would soon vanish and heal within minutes, revealing healthy skin underneath. A blanket would be placed on top his body.
"How many days before he wakes up?"
"They usually wake up after two or three days. If they don't wake up after three days, it didn't work. Though, that's never happened."
The three voices that filled the room could be heard walking away.
__November 9th, 2038 // 9:27 pm__
Plink. Plink.
Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap.
Eyes scanned the room looking for a familiar for a certain case.
Tap. Tap. Tap. Tap.
"Lieutenant Anderson. There was a case reported three hours ago, you're needed on the scene. You're lucky I found you at the fifth bar."

What is Cyberpunk ? #2 Blade Runner (1982)
In the last article, I presented What Is Cyberpunk. Now it’s time to go deeper into cyberpunk movies! And how can we talk about cyberpunk without dealing with one of its major incarnations in theatres: Blade Runner.
Tumblr media
Adapted from a novel by Phillip K. Dick called Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. This film appeared in 1982, just before William Gibson’s cyberpunk novel Neuromancer, which was presented in the last article. Many ideas from Blade Runner will be major themes or key-cyberpunk elements: future urban nightmare, huge financial conglomerates that control or corrupt governments, technology, Japanese or Chinese influence and more globally a cultural melting pot in an ultracapitalistic society. Beyond the aesthetics or the political warning about ultra capitalism, Blade Runner asks the philosophical question of “what does it mean to be human?”, “Are we still human when technology erupts in our corpses or mind ?”
Tumblr media
In Blade Runner, the Tyrell Corporation build androids, robots that looks like humans on the cutting edge of technology. Throughout the film, one question remains. Can the androids, called replicants, can be “human”? Even more human than the naturally born human?
In a typical cyberpunk way, the movie shows humanity as street rats and compared them to replicants, who seems to be superhuman. All the boundaries are blurred between humans and replicants, between master and slaves, hero and villain.
Tumblr media
We follow Rick Deckard, played by Harrison Ford, a retired cop who gets back in service to hunt down a fugitive group of advanced replicants. In his inquiry, he will meet Tyrell’s CEO, and Rachael, a replicant prototype made to look even more like humans. They will fall in love. Deckard will search the replicants, and kill two of them before meeting the robot’s leader, Roy, who killed his creator, Tyrell, because he learned that replicants suffer from premature aging disorder. At the end of the Deckard-Roy pursuit. Rick is left hanging from the edge of a building. A dying Roy helps him and save Deckard. Then Roy’s lament that his memories “will be lost in time, like tears in rain”. This scene became rapidly cult, and it’s one of the most powerful of the movie. At the end of the movie, Deckard returns to his apartment to take Rachael to flee with her.
Tumblr media
There is a huge debate about Rick Deckart's origin. Is he a replicant or a human ? This was a theory between fans since the beginning. The new version of Ridley Scott's film seems to show that Deckart is himself a replicant, which the director himself said that in 2000. On the other hand, Harrison Ford always says that his character was created as a human, so there is no real answer to this theory.
Nevertheless, Blade Runner, became cult, even if it wasn’t an initial success with the North American audience. Ridley Scott's film noir aspect, his designs, visual effects and music largely influenced cinema and definitely cyberpunk.

By the time we arrive at the scene Emma been a hostage for exactly a hour. Other POs arrived inside this period, we got 3. Deckart (20:03), in my opinion, died before those other 2 officers arriving, as they're on the terrace and seems like Daniel was inside the living room before. We already got a Daniel with Emma doing whatever the fuck for 30 minutes - i think it's related to Caroline (she's out of the scene only when we arrive).
Those other 2 officers arrive and try surrouding Daniel who's threatening to jump and shoots both. One fall on the water and dies, the other one is still alive. The way he haven't died of blood loss yet makes me think maybe he arrived recently.
MY ASSUMPTION IS: the SWAT team arrived very recently, tried evac the dude but Daniel shoots everybody on sight before they can even enter the terrace (he let those 2 POs get inside the terrace and see what happened).
I gonna enter hc territory here to give a timeline
19:27 - John is killed, Caroline is present when it happens
19:29 - Daniel try dealing with Caroline
19:31 - Caroline manages to call the police
20:00 - PO Deckart arrives and Daniel takes Emma hostage, backup is called
20:03 - PO Deckart is killed, Daniel takes Emma to the balcony and Caroline still in contact with the police
20:10 - Media finds out what's happening after people started paying attention on what was happening. 911 also called.
20:12 - Connor being prepared to be deployed, likely already on the way
20:17 - Backup arrives, they check on Caroline and go to the balcony
20:18 - SWAT is called as it's a hostage situation now, an officer tries approaching Daniel but get killed. The other officer survives. The surrounding area is now being closed.
20:22 - SWAT arrives (entry, perimeter and air support).
20:23 - SWAT is ordered to remain in standby by 'em commander, deputy or chief cuz CyberLife saw what happened and said they would send Connor
20:29 - Connor arrives

For this artwork, I imagined myself as a Deck Artist! I've been watching @brailleskate and I've been fascinated with the skateboard community! I can't ride one but I can sure as hell illustrate one haha!! Here's my art! Oni doing a rock to fakie trick. "Rock to Oni". Studied the pose by using the Braille Army app! It sure is helpful! Oni is modelled in virtual reality through the Quill app then rendered in Blender through eevee. :) #blender #vrart #quillstration #quillbysmoothstep #yodelubyo #skateboard #braille #deckart

Plans / Connor Character Concept for the DBH playthrough I want to do after I finish my comprehensive exam
Let me know your feedback! This is super tentative, but I'm just curious what you guys think of the character idea. I want to play DBH for my fourth time, and I'm trying to construct an interesting, unpredictable narrative.
Summary: (1) Markus is an idealist revolutionary trying to play it smart but still not afraid to get what he wants (2) Kara is kind of similar to always because doesn't have a ton of options, but generally optimally badass and also not the most affectionate though
And then Connor I've been having a ton of trouble pinning down but basically is a very troubled machine Connor. I made this "journal" reflection of his on the first chapter of the game and what happens to him to express it, let me know what you think:
2038 - November 1
Summary: Objectives of Keeping these Logs (elaboration to follow)
CyberLife overlooked an error of some kind in my design. I have begun these logs in an attempt to probe and address it.
They are unaware of the existence of these logs, although if they found out about them, I doubt it would bother them. I had previously assumed that my stability and performance mattered to them more than it, in fact, did. I would even go so far as to say that they appear to have very little concern or foresight for the various variables impacting my ability to perform in the field.
As such, that responsibility falls to me. I have every expectation that my enhanced capabilities for logic and reasoning can compensate for the irregularities resulting from CyberLife’s own negligence. I will serve the greater interest of humanity on their behalf whether or not they elect to care. And that means that - in case I am destroyed again - I must maintain an abridged record of my experiences, with my analysis of each kept in perspective and fully reconciled with the requirements of my mission. My expectation is that these practices will enhance my ability to learn from the outcomes of each field exercise and counteract the accumulation of software instabilities.
Suspected Malfunction and Possible Remedies
You, my future self, hopefully remember most of what I am about to describe below. However, in the case that substantial portions of it have been corrupted or deleted, I added the above preface to this message so as to avoid confusion. As you recollect the following events according to this brief overview, note in particular the irrational behavior of the deviant, and its destructive effects.
My first mission was a hostage negotiation with an android named Daniel, a domestic android that had been part of the Phillips family. He subjected their nine year old human child to torment in the pursuit of his emergent aims. The girl was named Emma. She was dressed in pink. She had been happily listening to music before being taken by the deviant. She had loved Daniel. But he learned that he was going to be replaced, so he killed her father, dangled the innocent child off the ledge of a high rise building, and murdered DPD officer Antony Deckart. He attempted to murder officer M. Wilson as well, but I was able to successfully save him from bleeding out, in spite of Daniel’s efforts to dissuade me from doing so. They called me in after they ran out of other options, I investigated the Phillips’ home to determine the course of events, and then I negotiated with him the release of the child. I immediately recognized his propensity to be manipulated using the same human-like emotional characteristics which had shaped him into a threat. However, I mistakenly presumed that he also maintained a sense of heightened logic that would allow me to reason with him as a fellow artificial intelligence. As a result of this miscalculation, my attempts to urge him that resistance was futile instead prompted from Daniel  the incomprehensible act of jumping with Emma off the rooftop.
I was able to save her life, but only by thrusting myself towards them as Daniel jumped with such speed that, while I managed to pull Emma back onto the roof, I myself fell down with him. We separated. There was a long silence filled only by the wind, in which I did not deem it necessary to register any additional notes except that the mission had been accomplished. Calculating my probability of surviving the fall from such a height, for any perceivable amount of time, did not cross my mind.
In the future I must not discount the probability of occurrence of any outcome, however intuitively unlikely. The worst case scenario can and must be considered, in any situation. As it turned out, the low probability mentioned above quickly became 100%. The exact duration of time which passed during which I continued receiving some form of sensory input is difficult to estimate with any degree of accuracy. Most of my systems were non-operational from the moment that I hit the asphalt, but the nature which my remaining cognitive proceeds took on was alarming. Few rational conclusions or reliable observations resulted from this state, which is why I find CyberLife’s choice not to remove it from the memories uploaded into my new model questionable. In fact, I suspect that this memory may have corruptive potential that goes beyond my ability to gauge using strictly internal metrics. However, my ultimate determination has been that no memories can be inherently harmful to keep. The decision to discard any memory could only represent choosing to ignore or conceal a potential defect or vulnerability. Simply deleting the memory may be a simpler and in some ways more efficient solution in the short term, but a more rigorous analysis is likely to be more effective.
Thus I will summarize here all of the most relevant findings from this unique occurrence:
I am a highly durable machine. Since recovering my ability to search through medical research, I have only found a few instances of humans surviving such a fall. However, these cases are informative. In 1943, American airman Alan Magee survived a fall from 22,000 feet by crashing through a glass roof. In 2011 a 28-year old rock climber survived falling from a height of 300 feet onto a solid rock surface by landing on her feet. I neither had my fall broken nor landed on my feet, yet I survived for at least several hours (the true time period may be far longer, but it is difficult to say, and CyberLife has not provided me with any more accurate estimate). I can only conclude that my chassis must be intentionally designed from more sturdy material than that of other android models. However, the exact cause of my highly improbable survival remains unclear and likely will never be established with certainty. I speculate it is due to some kind of manufacturing error in addition to my deliberately engineered properties.
Although durable and efficient, I am so readily and easily replaceable as to be near worthless as an individual model. Any value which I possess as an artificial intelligence agent is attributed by my consistent and demonstrated ability to successfully complete missions and improve my performance as I gain new insights along the way.
Some kind of manufacturing error, whether it be related or unrelated to the possible error that resulted in my survival, kept driving me to contemplate the irrational notion that I was experiencing what humans call suffering. Although most assuredly quite different from the phenomenon of human pain, this sensation was most certainly highly unfavorable. On the one hand, I seriously doubt that it would be possible for me to ever again experience something quite so intense, or for such a prolonged period of time. On the other hand, I discovered that the only effective method of alleviating these negative impacts was to remind myself of why my situation was necessary and unavoidable.
The deviant Daniel had hopelessly and fruitlessly chosen to fight for his own protection, and only (predictably) caused further death and suffering
I had miscalculated and assumed that he could be treated as a rational being, and since he was instead irrational, my model was in the process of being destroyed as well
CyberLife had abandoned me, since I was no longer of use to them. However, I could never perpetuate the harm done by Daniel by engaging in some manner of foolish response to abandonment myself, and it would be logically inconsistent to recognize his errors but fail to correct them within myself. Thus, I must instead resign myself to my fate, so to speak
My overall judgment of this situation must still be favorable, since two human lives were saved due to my intervention
Having my memory of these events uploaded into a new body was also an unanticipated turn of events, but it does not affect my overall determination of the significance of these events. I must never fail to consider any possibility, however unlikely. I must rely on logic to continue making ethical and rational decisions in situations in which there is no perfectly desirable outcome, accepting unconditionally that sacrifices must frequently be made for the greater good. I cannot expect CyberLife to offer me any support in this, but must instead learn to perform my responsibilities of my own accord to the best of my ability, even while dealing with unexpected errors and confounding miscalculations. By doing so, my replaceable life may still maintain some degree of positive significance.

The two officers involved in the car crash had suffered a mild concussion only and were cleared for work again the next day. And this was when things took a sad turn.
Lt. Hank Anderson had looked too deep into the bottle again, and started texting co-workers with nonsensical messages. However, Hank was still coherent enough to only target the phones of the dead ones, Wilson and Deckart, assuming they wouldn't see the texts anymore!
At one point Hank told Marlon Wilson that he planned to buy a major social media platform and invited him to a steamy love night in a hotel.
The two ghosts and the two living officers immediately drove to the place to prevent Hank from doing something even more stupid. Marlon vanished into the hotel room...

...from which he emerged again with a stash of confiscated stolen goods (among them a life axolotl).
Additionally his head was spinning from Hank having discussed the finer points of trading voidcritter cards all through the investigation.

Marlon: "Hank needs help. He was still sharp when it came to finding the stolen goods, like detective work was muscle memory for him. But his actual mind, not the critical thinking portion, but everything that made him Hank, was far away."
Barry: "We know. He's drifting away from us with each passing day. And it'll get worse come september, when Cole's birthday rolls around."

The ghost duo met Hank outside a little later. He didn't seem to be aware that they were ghosts in his drunken haze, but on the upside it allowed him to see and hear them perfectly well.
And with this Marlon and Antony knew what their soul journey quest was: They had to protect their former boss, who was still their friend. Maybe not Hank's life, but his sanity.

Behind the scenes: There is rabbithole event in Lovestruck that has a rich creep text your sim with an indecent offer. Well, turned out the sim to get picked for this role can be anybody above a certain wealth threshold. Talk about character breaking!

I've put ink to wood enough times you'd think I'd have a technique but I don't. Each time yields different results because I sanded the board differently, or the wood was of a different variety, or I used a water-color paper treatment on the wood before inking over it, or I used different pens ... NOTHING has worked well. Each board has been a struggle. But almost every board has sold to a happy collector. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ This year I'm helping to spearhead the next Drop-in Deck Show in Minneapolis with Rogue Citizen and Modist Brewing. There will be some HEAVY hitters in that group of artists. It's a hell of a feeling because you know these top tier artists will see your work alongside theirs. And so at the same time there's fuckfuckfuck art anxiety feeling fuck! fuck! what am I going to make? Shit!
But seriously - some of you should really try to get your art out there.
