The Many Faces of Kotarou Sakamoto

This is a poem I wrote for @demondamage for secret santa on the adult whump server.

Crack!

Fills the air,

A crying creature screams.

Snap!

Goes the creature’s bones,

Under the palm of his hands.

Remembrance.

Deep marks dug into flesh.

Cold snow and numb limbs.

Klank!

As the chains close,

Like the cuffs from so long ago.

Zap!

The cattle prod touches skin,

As another wretched scream fills the air.

Doubt. 

Fear pounding in his chest.

The darkening of an altruistic heart.

“I can’t Master,”

He looks his teacher in the eyes,

A whip sitting between them.

“Why not?”

His teacher stares back,

The world becomes hard to see.

“It’s needlessly sadistic.”

He swallows,

Faintly touching the scars on his back with his mind.

A disappointed look,

Crushes his heart,

“But you must do it.”

The face of the creature,

Is hard to see,

Through that hazy mind’s eye.

But his screams,

Are clear as day,

Still ringing in his ears.

A peaceful night,

The whistling of cars,

And the lights of a city that never sleeps.

Warm arms,

Placed tightly around his waist,

And a smile on that face.

Soft blankets,

Different from home,

But part of home nonetheless.

A man inside him,

A man that he loves,

A man that hugs him at night’s fall.

What more could he want?

Life is good,

Peaceful for once.

Yet, something is missing,

Something is wrong,

And he doesn’t know what.

Black eyes,

A deep facial void,

Staring deep into his soul.

A sarin gas,

Of hatred,

And of anger.

Anger to hide,

Hatred to defend,

Sadness shrouded in resentment.

To fix,

Or to heal,

Are not the same thing.

But interest,

And curiosity,

Are wedded in earthly heaven.

A mission,

A need to change,

What has been corrupted.

“I will transform the wicked into something great.”

AWA is an 18+ discord server intended to be a space for artists of all levels, styles and mediums to come and share art, seek critique, share OCs and talk about whump in a community setting! We also run weekly and yearly events.

Additionally, we welcome those who are writers/hobbyists/lurkers/just testing the waters with art, as well as offer a space for OC threads, writer's talk, sfw/nsfw roleplay seeking/playing, commission/trade seeking and sprinting, among others.

Though AWA is focused on being an artist community, we do encourage anyone to join.

How large is the server?

Right now we are hovering around 100 folks!

I want to get better at art. Can this server help with that?

The AWA offers a crit space!

Why is the server 18+?

The AWA mods wanted to create an adult space where adult topics could be engaged with without worrying about censoring for the sake of minors. We do ask that explicit content stay within their respective channels, but otherwise try to cultivate a nonjudgemental environment.

What events do you do?

AWA currently is running an OC Trade Event, as well as a weekly member spotlight DTIYS. Anyone in the server is free to participate.

“I’m sorry.” 

No response. Not that Ko expected one.

Not that he deserved one. He hadn’t been able to protect his little demon. Ivior had, much to his surprise, gone through with his threat to get the council involved. With the rock solid paper trail, Ko not only had no choice but to hand over Aziphem to the sadist but was also refused supervision. All he could do was sit back pressed to Ivior’s lab door, glaring at the guards who refused to return his gaze. 

That door did not muffle the fight going on behind it. All 3 hours, 25 minutes, and 14 seconds. He timed it, counting every painful second in his head. Something he could focus on while his demon screamed.

Then again, his count might have been off. The numbers jumbled when he heard Aziphem call for him. The one time the demon wanted him he was stuck sitting on his hands and counting seconds.

“I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you.” Ko whispered, laying his hand on Aziphem’s. Several jab marks dripped blood, likely where Ivior missed his mark with the thrashing demon. A thrashing demon who was now terrifyingly still.

“I know you hate me, you have every right to.” the Angel gave his little demon a small squeeze, hoping for any response. “But I need you to let me know you’re still alive.”

The slightest twitch, Aziphem’s small clawed fingers moved in his gloved hand and Ko returned the soft squeeze. 

“I promise, I won’t let him touch you again.”

Imran had already known, going in, that the conditions of the breeding facility where he now found himself standing would be less than ideal when compared to his old employer. He knew the smaller budget would reflect on the conditions the animals were kept, how the entire process was executed, and what the odds of the transaction working out were. Yet he is still shocked when the cages are small, cramped, filthy. His heart aches for each and every single one of the biopets kept within, but he knows he realistically can't possibly save them all.

Just one. Just the one. That would be enough.

With every step further into the facility, the mental image of Horus degrades in his mind. Guilt gnaws at the forefront of his conscience, and it comes crashing down heavily once he sees with his own eyes what had become of the once powerful animal he had met all those years ago.

Tied to the center of the tiny room, the creature barely had any slack to move. Its body is covered in a litany of sores and bruises, and the emaciated skin clings to bone like a tight-fitting suit. As soon as its gaze meets the handler's, a shrill noise leaves its mouth. Terror, it seems, was all that remained. The knot in Imran's stomach feels so tight it's nauseating.

He hopes to appease the animal despite the handler's amused comments over the pointlessness of the effort. Horus doesn't look at him. Doesn't even seem to recognize him. It pulls away from Imran as best as it can, tail pinned between its exhausted legs, tears streaming down its face, body shaking so hard it makes the chains holding it in place clink. Talking to it has no effect. Even touching it, an act that would have always promptly elicited a bite response, does nothing.

Imran barely remembers the rest of the transaction.

At some point money had exchanged hands, the biopet was sedated, and he now found himself clutching the battered creature tight to his body as if it could possibly flee. The walk back to his vehicle feels shameful.

What have I done? No. I couldn't possibly have known this would happen. But it only happened because of me, didn't it?

The device on the back of its skull has been removed. Vandermeer leaves no loose ends. Imran doesn't want to think of what the withdrawals must have been like for the animal to go through. Death would have been a kinder choice than this.

The disgraced doctor swallows his guilt, and gently lays the biopet on the backseat. The drive would be long, but the worst, he hoped, was already over.

I'm so sorry, Horus. I promise I'll take care of you this time.
