Chronology
Mostly events involving or relevant to Cas. Note that the SPN creators decided to ignore the s6 and s8 timeskips in their chronology so the dates featured on the show after those are 1-2 years off. This timeline corrects that. Based on hells-half-acre's amazing timeline with a few guesstimates of my own.

Listened to the panel. (Ouch)
Why, after 15+ years is she creating a whole new narrative that she auditioned for many female roles during the time they were dating (so seasons 2-5)?
I say this is a completely new narrative because she has been point blanked asked why she wasn’t on the show back in 2009-2015, and her answer was always that’s his thing or that’s his show.
So why is it now she’s saying she auditioned—and clearly didn’t get the roles?
Now we know from past interviews that she asked Singer and his wife to create a role for her at the s12 post season party. Which they did. Creating a d-plot character that was a conniving, materialistic bitch. Which they told her and the public it was created after Danneel’s real persona. (Ouch.)
But this new “I auditioned for every female role early on” is a really really weird flex to now bring it up.
Is she lying? What would be the motive? Seems really stupid to lie about it.
If she’s now telling the truth, then she and Jensen were both embarrassed about it all these years. And they should be.
Probably Jensen doesn’t want to bring it up bc he knows that she knows (and so does most cast and crew) that the only reason she didn’t get those parts (while dating Jensen) is because Jensen himself didn’t want her on the show.
I mean — Sandy (Jared’s gf at the time) was on, Jensen’s dad and sister, her brother Gino, Jason Mann’s music and other buddies of his. Even Gen came back in s6.
And if it wasn’t Jensen blocking her…then that means it’s purely a distaste for her by producers.
Let that sink in.
Makes that PA’s story that she was banned from the set when they were dating seem a lot more than just a rumor.
Last note — thank goodness she lost out on the roles like Meg, Ruby, Jo, Rowena, Jody, or Abaddon.
Says a lot that she also didn’t even nail auditions to snag a one episode role like the Halloween witch, pastor’s daughter, the whore, the bartender demon, or one of the mythical gods.
Jensen either couldn’t influence to get her on the show bc she was that bad. Or he didn’t want to. Until he had an incentive to…when it was tied to his “family” brewing business.
Yes to all. I really wish I knew her motive for lying now. Is she just trying to change the narrative as AAs are known to do? Is she putting it out there she's trying to look for work?? Hahaha right, stupid me. Is someone telling her to lie?? Like her mother?
And - like you said if she's telling the truth now, what does it mean? I'm curious too, if it really was Jensen blocking her because he didn't want her on the set regularly because it was just the J's thing - like she always said. Or did one of the producers not want her there? No. I'm guessing him.
I'm just trying to organize what you've said and what I'm thinking.
If she was lying before, I believe it was Jensen who never wanted her on set. She said during Covid they're better apart. Let that sink in, too. Lol

FMA, Slayers, and Alphabets, Oh My!
So I've been watching Slayers along with @ayalaatreides (Using Syncplay!) and I've started noticing some interesting elements that ring a bell from when I watched FMA: Brotherhood.
Now, since FMA came out as a manga in 2001 and the anime for Brotherhood in 2009, while Slayers came out in 1989, it's clear that FMA was inspired by elements of Slayers.

For example, this stylized symbol (upon which Saillune/Seyruun is based in its design) shows clear similarities to FMA's famous transmutation circles, and while I'll discuss this more fully later, you can see both Hebrew and other alphabets used here; I can spot the Latin and what looks like either a runic-inspired or Greek-inspired alphabet (or a mixture of the two) outside the Star of David and in between the concentric circles.
Furthermore, the large door that Edward Elric possesses was clearly inspired by these elements in Slayers, as it also has Hebrew letters carved into it. See below:

In these disparate elements of the Demon's Blood, Ruby Eye, Dark Star, Chaotic Blue, and Death Fog contain lettering with a clearly Hebrew-inspired alphabet as well as what are unquestionably runic-derived letters.
I won't transliterate the runes in this post, but what's really intriguing is that in terms of worldbuilding and canon, there is evidence that writing systems were different in the past compared to the present-day of the 'verse we see in the anime. In particular, a couple of things stood out to me when I found out that Shabranigdo/Shabranigdu had a canonically spelled runic name: ᛋᚼᚾᛒᛦᛅᛁᚷᛞᚢ
If you parse this version of his name very carefully, first of all it appears that the actual alphabet may be drawn from either the Anglo-Saxon futhorc or a mixture of the futhorc with the Elder futhark. Further, the letter that expresses the /r/ sound in Shabranigdo's name is written using ᛦ which originally meant the /z/ sound in proto-Norse (arguably the very earliest runes could be a form of proto-Germanic, but the sparsness of such early rune finds makes it hard to decide firmly one way or the other, so I'll go with proto-Norse) and which turned into an /r/ sound later on, which is why words like *gastiz became gestr.
It is very tempting to hypothesize that a very early stage of the language spoken by the people who now inhabit Saillune/Seyruun and other neighboring countries had a /z/ sound which underwent rhotacism to /r/ (which happened in English as well, incidentally - this explains the origin of "was" vs "were") but for which the early runic writing system didn't adjust (analogously to the proto-Norse runes and later younger futhark and the futhorc) to reflect the sound change.
(Alternatively, in-verse, it could simply be that ᛦ always meant /r/ and was never a /z/, and by Occam's razor this does fit the known facts a bit better, but meta wouldn't be fun without all the extra meanderings, yes? :P )
Also, a fascinating final note is that the last picture shows two circles in which are clearly perpendicular wave-patterns, which to any student of physics is evocative of electromagnetism in the electric (traditionally drawn as a sine wave in the same plane as the page, shown on the left) and magnetic (traditionally drawn as a sine wave perpendicular to the page, shown on the right) fields propagating each other to transmit electromagnetic radiation.
#slayers#fullmetal alchemist#fullmetal alchemist brotherhood#fma#meta#my thoughts let me show you them#followup post to come with transliterations of the runic letters in case anyone's very interested

Queer Transformation in the Online Supernatural Fan-Community
The whiteboard at the front of the dusty classroom read out “PTSD” in big black letters. My class was on the mental health unit of seventh grade health, a topic which caused some to snicker but which made me and my group of newly queer, feminist, staunchly liberal friends nod in approval. The teacher, a coach with thinning hair, asked if anybody knew anything about PTSD. My friend, a fellow nerd, raised her hand and quickly went into a spiel about a book she read about the blossoming love between two male characters that was tragically cut short by one of the characters being drafted into the Vietnam War. With a start, I remembered what we had been discussing recently and with a sick jolt it hit me: my friend was talking about Supernatural fanfiction in front of our entire class.
Supernatural is an action-adventure drama series that debuted in 2005 and ran for 15 years. It follows two brothers, Dean and Sam Winchester, as they trek across the U.S.A. in search of supernatural monsters to hunt, and it later evolved into something resembling bible fanfiction as the main cast was expanded to include angels, demons, and other biblical entities. Though it was originally written to appeal to a mostly conservative, middle american, male audience, it was quickly picked up by a younger, female, queer, and internet-savvy audience that would go on to create incredibly heartfelt transformative works about queerness, homophobia, and mental health. However, the journey there is a complicated one.
In 1973, film theorist Laura Mulvey coined the term “male gaze” as a form of media creation that “portrays women as objects and nothing more”. I believe that Laura Mulvey would agree that Supernatural falls directly into the space of the male gaze. Its depictions of women relegated them to a few limiting roles, likely due to the male dominated writer’s room and intended audience. These roles included: the deceased mother, the blushing virgin, the deceased girlfriend, the hooker with a heart of gold, the evil demon, the deceased almost-girlfriend, etc etc (are we seeing a pattern here?). While there were a few standout female characters, such as the nerdy hacker lesbian Charlie or the charmingly midwestern Donna, the general rule of Supernatural was that if there was a female character, she was more likely than not going to die a brutal and sometimes sexually charged death. This writing is problematic in itself, but it gets really interesting once you factor in the fans.
Despite the fact that Supernatural had a mostly female fanbase and a solid amount of queer fans, reactions to female characters were complicated, especially in the beginning. One infamous poem from 2009 blog “Just Go Demon-Ho” lists reason why the demon love interest Ruby needed to be written off, including such inspiring lines as “Just leave now b*tch, we will stand up and cheer”. While access to the early internet allowed for fans to discuss their love of their favorite show, it also provided a breeding ground for fans to spread hatred and misogyny online. In this is the double-bladed sword: once anonymized, the internet allows for people to show their true colors, and this can often be very ugly. While people might feel the pressure to tone down such strong opinions in real life settings, people will often post without thought online under the pretense that “nobody will care anyway”, although this is not true. Perhaps there was also the perception that since these characters weren’t real, then the audience’s misogyny wasn’t hurting anybody, even if these comments could be internalized by other fans.
Such behavior makes me wonder which came first: the audience’s internalized misogyny or the show’s external misogyny. I believe that they went hand in hand. Hegemony is defined by sociologist James Lull as “the power or dominance that one social group holds over others” (Gender, Race, and Class in Media 6th Edition, Page 41). As opposed to other forms of oppression, hegemony functions by convincing one social group that they are not being oppressed, and that their oppression is actually a result of nature or how things should be. In a way, since the female characters of Supernatural were not portrayed as actual human beings, the audience could not perceive any new female character as such, unless they were firmly out of the range of “potential love interest”. Fan perception of female characters was so harmed by this internet echo chamber of misogyny that it was very difficult to break out of the hegemony of “girl=bad, man=good”. Paradoxically, there was still a desire for these fans to see Dean and Sam in complex romantic relationships, but in the words of writer Anna Campbell from Medium, “...in general it’s hard to write a compelling heterosexual romance, after all, if all your women are objects more than agents.” Enter Castiel, angel of the Lord.
Season 4 of Supernatural begins with Dean being raised from hell by the angel Castiel, who declares that “God commanded it”. Castiel then showed up repeatedly throughout the season, eventually becoming part of the main cast. Fans went wild. Here was a male character with an interesting backstory and relationship with one of the main characters, unlike previous love interests that were only caricatures of real women. It is doubtless that the fanbases’ misogyny also played a part in the popularity of a gay relationship, but the result is fascinating. In internet fan communities, a practice known as “shipping” is common, where fans take two characters that they think would look good together and create fanworks about them being in a relationship. This can manifest as simply blogging about them, or in transformative works (defined as “A new work based on an old one work [the new work] is transformative if it uses the source work in completely new or unexpected ways”) like art, fanfiction, and videos. And on the internet, gay relationships reign supreme.
When someone unaware of online fan-culture is exposed to this fact, it can be confusing. But when all of the factors are considered, it really is not that surprising. From its inception, the internet has been a place where people can find groups of people with similar ideals as them that they might not find in real life. For many queer people, especially queer teenagers, the internet was where they first learned about LGBTQ+ identities and communities. Combine this with the fact that a lot of mainstream media is made with the male gaze and many female characters fall flat, and you get a female, queer community online that is simultaneously displeased with the disappointments of heterosexual pairings and the lack of queer representation in mainstream media. When more attention in films and tv shows is given to complex, fulfilling male relationships than is given to heterosexual pairings, then why wouldn’t people want to explore what is given to them?
Queer readings of mainstream texts allow for the audience to glean more from the narrative, coming away with their own rich interpretations. As queer studies scholar Alexander Doty writes, “Queer readings aren’t ‘alternative’ readings. They result from the recognition and articulation of the complex range of queerness that has been in popular culture texts and their audiences all along.” By creating fanworks that investigate certain untapped aspects of characters (such as the popular interpretation that Dean Winchester is bisexual due to his innuendos, posturing, repression, and overcompensating masculinity), fans explore these aspects within themselves. Transformative fiction is not just “stealing” the ideas of the published work, but instead ways of furthering one’s understanding of it. The internet is a place where creators do not have to concern themselves with the pressures of a corporation worried about profitability, which often pushes media to fall into the male gaze. Rather, individuals can create works through the female gaze, which Laura Mulvey writes as, “Characters viewed through the lens of the female gaze are not caricatures. The beauty of the female gaze is that it aims to empathize rather than objectify, to show emotion and intimacy while also showing respect. This is a refreshing idea compared to the control, dominance, and superficialities of the male gaze.” Fanfiction, though often derided by popular culture, is a statement of rebellion.
And now we return to seventh grade health class, with the warm afternoon sun shining through the window onto the face of my friend. I am mildly mortified that she is speaking about Supernatural fanfiction (disguised as it may be) in front of our entire class. I wonder to myself: How could someone relate something as serious as PTSD to a show so terrible and misogynistic as Supernatural, and then proudly declare it? Well, I would never. Meanwhile, she is thinking about her favorite show, about how much it means to her despite its flaws. She is thinking about how she and other fans have taken something that is often discriminatory to the very people they are, and how despite what others may think, they’ve transformed it into something that embraces queerness, neurodivergence, and mental health. Gay transformative works can be liberating to the queer community, but it must be acknowledged that the abundance of male/male romances are largely in response to a lack of properly written female characters. People can make lemonade out of lemons, but that doesn’t stop the fact that corporations are squeezing lemon juice into our eyes. Still, in a world where the powers that be dictate the reign of toxic masculinity, it is the rebellious joy of the creative fan to see that and then transform it into any of the beautifully diverse narratives it asks to become.

Adding my two cents: I have the Supernatural: Role Playing Game core book which includes a section on monsters. Notably, despite being released in 2009, angels are NOT included (Lazarus Rising aired September 2008, for reference). Weirdly, they have stats for Meg (version 1.0) but not Ruby, despite Ruby being around for season 3. This may have something to do with the development timeline, as apparently they first started talking about the game in 2007 (see here). The point being, I don't think even the writers realized angels would turn out to be real until they started season 4. The forward to the book is by Sera Gamble, so at least somebody who was actually on the show looked at this thing. So, yeah, *technically* the statement, "angels were introduced in season 4" is wrong, but only technically.
(I'm also in the camp that reapers being a subset of angels was a weird continuity error, because if that's the case, how the heck did Azazel, a *demon,* manage to posses/control Tessa in In My Time of Dying? That's just bonkers.)
Supernatural officially introduced angels into their monster lore in the 2008 episode “Lazarus Rising,” where Castiel appears to Dean after he raised him from perdition. Although Castiel isn’t a real biblical character, showrunners Eric Kripke and Sera Gamble did pull real angel names for other characters, such as archangels Michael, Lucifer, Gabriel, and Raphael, as well as regular old angels like Uriel, Hannah, Bartholomew, Anael, Isham, and Gadreel.
Something is wrong with this statement. Can you tell what it is?

harbinger of death
There’s a human boy born in 1983. He’s called Sam. He meets a girl in 2003 called Ruby, though he knows her as Jess, and then again in 2008. When he’s with her, he feels like home. I feel like I’ve known you my whole life, he murmurs to her once, and has to ask why she’s crying.
There’s a human boy born in 1979. He’s called Dean. He meets an angel in 1379, as a demon, and again in 2009, as a human. He thinks, I shouldn’t trust him, I’ve only just met him, but finds himself confiding in Castiel by the sink of a kitchen, only he can’t go home again.
There’s a human boy born in 1350. He’s called Campbell. He meets a girl named Ruby in 1370, and he loves her until his death in 1379. He doesn’t know that she saved his life; she doesn’t know that he damned hers.
There’s an angel named Castiel. It does not remember when it was born. It meets a man named Dean in CE 2009, but knows in its borrowed heart that they’ve met before.

StackedNatural Day 137: 4x16
StackedNatural Masterpost: [x]
March 19, 2022
4x16: On The Head of a Pin
Written by: Ben Edlund
Directed by: Mike Rohl
Original air date: March 19, 2009
Plot Synopsis:
Castiel and Uriel ask Dean to torture Alastair for information. But when Alastair breaks free, Castiel starts to believe that there is a traitor among the angels.
Features:
Angels being murdered, Cas’ guilt, the tortured becoming the torturer, Alastair reveals the First Seal, an angelic exorcism, Sam killing Alastair, Uriel’s worship of Lucifer and conversion of angels.
My Thoughts:
Okay first of all, I apologize for the length of the “Notable Lines” section below, but in my defense, every single line of this script could basically be included. I already made some cuts and we’re still here.
This is perhaps a perfect episode of this show. It’s certainly in the running for my favourite episode of all time, up there with The Man Who Would Be King. I’ll let you know at the end of Stacked, but I was restraining myself from just screaming and making incoherent noises the entire time since I was watching with other people.
All of my favourite parts of season 4 are exemplified in this episode. Dean’s Hell trauma, Alastair, Cas being a badass, Cas being on the brink of rebellion, halo imagery, Sam’s demon blood powers, Ruby being manipulative, Uriel being manipulative, God being an absent father, and so many raw lines of dialogue that I literally cannot choose a favourite.
Season 4 Cas hits SO hard for me. I love Cas all the time, I love him in the later seasons with Jack and when he’s softened and become more human, but there’s something about how hard he wants to believe in Heaven, about how much he’s already feeling about Dean, that is super tantalizing to watch. I love him begging for a leader in Anna. I love that when Dean first starts torturing Alastair, we see Cas in a wideshot with dark objects between him and the viewer, figuratively the one who’s trapped. The shot where he’s haloed by the streetlight and it’s flickering as he contemplates rebelling and following Anna is one of my favourite shots in the entire series. And thanks to season 15, we know that at this point he’s already in love with Dean, even if he doesn’t know that that’s what those feelings are. After all, he already expressed that he has doubts way back in 4x07. According to the spnwiki, this was also the episode that Cas was supposed to die in (presumably where Alastair says he wants to kill him but can only send him back to Heaven is where it would have happened), but he was so popular with the fans that they kept him instead and started giving him Anna’s plots. So this is also the first time that Cas as a character breaks out of the narrative that was prepared for him, within the narrative by expressing doubt and in a meta sense by refusing to be killed by the writer’s room. Also insane insane insane that this happened by him being impaled through the back by a hook/rebar on a wall by an enemy. I completely forgot that that had happened. Wow.
Jensen Ackles’ acting is as good as it gets in this episod, as is the actor who plays Alastair’s. The way both of their faces twitch when they’re hearing something that scares them but trying to play it off. Demon’s in this season were still incredibly scary, Alastair’s scenes still freak me out 13 years later.
@Meg3point0 and I both think that Alastair is lying about John not breaking (he’s been dead for more than 10 months in canon at this point, and why would they give up torturing him after 100 years?). What better torture than to tell Dean that not only will he never live up to his father’s legacy, but that he’s also doomed the world at the same time?
Notable Lines:
“Uriel's the funniest angel in the garrison. Ask anyone.”
“My superiors have begun to question my sympathies. [...] I was getting too close to the humans in my charge. You. They feel I've begun to express emotions. The doorways to doubt.”
“You ask me to open that door and walk through it, you will not like what walks back out.”
“You left part of yourself back in the Pit. Let's see if we can get the two of you back together again, shall we?”
“Daddy’s little girl, he broke. He broke in thirty. Oh, just not the man your daddy wanted you to be, huh, Dean?”
“I carved you into a new animal, Dean. There is no going back.” “Maybe you’re right. But it’s my turn to carve.”
“What you’re feeling? It’s called doubt.”
“And it is written that the first seal shall be broken when a righteous man sheds blood in hell. As he breaks, so shall it break.”
“For the first time, I feel…” “It gets worse.”
“Strange how a leaky pipe can undo the work of angels when we ourselves are supposed to be the agents of fate.”
“Our father? He stopped being that, if he ever was, the moment he created them. Humanity, his favourites.”
“There is no will. No wrath. No God.” “Maybe. Or maybe not. But there's still me.”
“It's not blame that falls on you, Dean, it's fate.”
“I guess I’m not the man either of our dads wanted us to be.”
Laura’s (completely subjective) Episode Rating: 10
IMdB Rating: 9.1
In Conclusion: Ben Edlund is my BEST FRIEND.

Supernatural Novel: Heart of the Dragon
Welcome to my not-quite review of the fourth Supernatural novel, Heart of the Dragon.
Author: Keith R.A. DeCandido
Timeline: Set after Episode 5.08 Changing Channels
Location: San Francisco, California (Chinatown)
Synopsis: An old foe has come back to terrorize San Francisco, but what is the connection between the Campbells, John Winchester and Sam and Dean? Read to find out!
Warning: Spoilers abound!
Oh, where do I start? Heart of the Dragon has a very different feel to it, one that I'm not entirely on board with. Basically, it's a flashback book that spends the first third on Samuel, Deanna, and Mary Campbell, the second third on John Winchester and the last quarter on Sam and Dean. In fact, out of 28 chapters, Sam and Dean were only featured in about 7 of them. It leaves the book feeling hollow and me, a little meh. But, there are some additional insights into the Winchester family history which I'll try and parse out.
One more thought, I'm glad this is the last book from this particular author. Once again he has utilized a culture/race to tell the story, and not well. When the story is in 1969, he utilizes the world Orientals to explain Japanese and Chinese characters. He might have been trying to use the wording of the day, and that's fine if it's in dialogue, but to use it as a descriptor is problematic, at best. He also plays up multiple stereotypes from the Chinese mob to the Japanese Samurai. I'm hoping this book is the Route 666 of the novels and that they can only get better.
I decided to sort my thoughts within the different timelines, so here we go:
1969: Samuel, Deanna, and Mary Campbell
We open with the family hunting a vampire and Samuel using 15-year-old Mary as willing bait. It turns out to be a nest, but they quickly dispatch them without casualties. Deanna appears to be quite the hunter in her own right (her skill with a Claymore outstanding.) Within this hunt we learn a few things about Mary and the Campbell family.
The Campbells have a strong link to their Scottish heritage.
Samuel hates Christmas
Mary is willful, annoying, and disrespectful, but an amazing hunter who was raised practically from birth to how to hunt and defend herself. (Sam parallels, perhaps?)
Mary learned about monsters at 11 when she saw her parents dispatch an avenging spirit.
Samuel hates the idea of Mary hanging out with any boys, though she has a particular fondness for a John Winchester who works as a local auto-mechanic.
Samuel owns a dry-cleaning business and Deanna substitute teaches to help maintain some kind of income.
Mary often wondered about having a normal life, but would dismiss it knowing she couldn't have that and still know monsters are out there. (Seems like a combination of Sam and Dean here).
Other than that, the hunt they go to San Francisco for seems fairly perfunctory. They do a bunch of research, talk to a few locals. Samuel dons his FBI agent schtick, they locate the source of the problem, and quickly dispatch it. There's nothing too dramatic there, just a lot of backstory.
1989: John Winchester
There's a bit more insight here because now we're getting some insight into Dad John, as well as 6-year-old Sam and 10-year-old Dean. I'll touch on a few points.
Leaving his boys with others: We open with John returning to his kids whom he left at Bobby's while he took care of a hunt. He left them long enough that they were enrolled in school and he planned on keeping them there for the fall semester. He felt bad about using Bobby's hospitality for so long.
Training his boys: "John knew his boys would need to be able to defend themselves against whatever was out there - he'd already started that process with Dean... Dean was a crack shot with John's M1911 and could load the shotgun with iron rounds and fire them off in one smooth motion. Eventually he'd need to train Sammy too. But not yet."
Loving his boys: When he arrives at Bobby's, Sam runs out to meet him and wraps his arms around John's legs as he walks in. Sam also tattles on Dean for eating the last donut.
There are also some fun moments between young Sam and Dean, mostly sibling bickering.
Dean and Sam enjoy playing hide-and-seek among Bobby's car on the weekends and Sam enjoys going to school during the week. Dean, not so much.
Sam proudly shares that he's doing 3rd grade work in 1st grade and then teases Dean about also doing 3rd grade work even though he's in 5th grade (Dean then sticks his tongue out at Sam and says "Screw you, Sammy.") At this John calls them out and both boys are chagrined.
Later on, when John calls Bobby for more information, we find Dean holding a pen out of Sam's reach and teasing him with it.
Of course, that call means we also get this heartbreaking line moment from Dean, who wants to talk to his Dad, but can't before John hangs up. Bobby tries to explain: "'Sorry, Dean, he, uh, was on his way out the door. But he told me to tell you both to behave yourselves and do what I tell you. And that he loves you.' Dean: 'Did he really say that?'"
When Bobby presents the next case, John is torn between wanting to spend time with his kids, but going after something that could cause people to burn spontaneously, in the hopes that it might lead him to the demon who killed Mary. I think the book did a good job of capturing John's struggle between revenge and caring for his boys. He's not the abusive, neglectful father people tend to think he is. He's someone struggling to make things right.
"John didn't answer at first. Instead, he looked over at Sam and Dean in the dining room, playing that oh-so-common game of 'I touched you last.'
Christmas was coming up and he did want to spend it with the boys..."
Finally, when John returns and Bobby and the boys meet him at the airport, we get some additional insight into 10-year-old Dean's thoughts regarding his father and his place in the family.
"Waiting there in the airport, he understood how important it was for Dad to be away so much - more than Sammy ever could. Sammy hadn't really known Mom, since he was just a baby when she died. Dean couldn't imagine that his baby brother would ever truly understand what had happened to her.
If he was honest with himself, he didn't really understand it, either. There were some days - though he'd never admit this to anyone - when he couldn't even remember what she looked like.
Some kind of monster had killed Mom, and Dad wouldn't rest until he found that monster and killed it. Along the way, he'd kill any other monsters who tried to kill other people's moms...
Dad still fought the bad guys and saved people, but he also cared about his sons.
Because Dad was a hero, and that was what heroes did."
2009 - Sam and Dean
There isn't much to write about here, because they weren't featured in the book. I will just add a couple of notes.
Dean recognizes Samuel Campbell in a newspaper article about the killings. (He'd already been sent back in time and met his grandfather).
It's seems reasonable to Sam that Mary and her parents were hunters. What freaks him out is that he and Dean were named after their grandparents and John never told them.
Sam's been a nerd about the American Interstate system since he was 10 and loved poring over maps.
Sam feels more guilt from trusting Ruby over Dean than starting the apocalypse.
Final notes:
This book introduces Castiel who brings the case to the boys attention. We get the same stuff in here that you see on screen, he has issues with personal space, comes and goes at will, and Bobby's still mad at him for not being able to heal his paralysis. He's only there for a few pages, and then disappears again.
Bobby gets a bit more screen time, as a pseudo-dad to young Sam and Dean, and later as their resource when researching the case and it's history. Favorite quote: "As he went into the fridge for butter to spread onto the pan, Bobby decided it was the entire Winchester family that was making him bald."
We briefly get Hurt Sam who is punched repeatedly by a hulk of a man, but with no lasting consequences and very little caring Dean.
We find out at the end that Zachariah orchestrated the whole thing by planting the idea in Castiel's head.
So, like I said at the beginning, not my favorite, but hopefully I was able to share some of the more interesting parts. Read at your own risk!

A Life Unlived- Life Goes On pt. 3
Masterlist / Previous
Word Count: 1380
A/N: Season 4 still good luck don’t murder me Happy Bday Donna! Merry Christmas everyone!
Warnings: smut, themes of cheating, canon gore, angst- oh so much angst
“You haven’t said thank you yet,” Castiel said flatly, as he stood in Myin’s bedroom.
“What are you doing here?” She asked sitting up in bed, startled by his presence. She could see the face of the vessel that he was possessing but also the ethereal light that made up his essence as an angel.
“You called for me, ask me for a favor, witch. You know why I am here. Now I need you to start paying off your debt. Starting with Sam Winchester’s infatuation with the demon. What do you know about her?” Castiel asked.
“I only just found out that she was a demon. Sam and Dean knew her before Dean died, but she had a different host I guess. That’s all I know about her. That and the blood. Sam is drinking her blood,” Myin spewed the words faster than she had planned to. Then looked around her motel. It didn’t feel right to her, but she didn’t know why. “Is this a dream?”
“Yes, very perceptive. Why did you summon me?” Castiel asked. Myin realized this was an interrogation without the torture.
“Dean needed to be saved. Sam and I were looking for a way to do it, but we only found the spell that I used. Sam doesn’t know that I cast the spell. Dean either.” Myin admitted dropping her gaze. “How is that I can see you?”
“You gave me your sight as part of your payment. ‘So that I may see what is happening,’ if I recall,” Castiel said. He was all business. Had he been human, Myin would have assumed he would have made a joke about the situation.
“So you saved Dean? And now I can see you. An Angel?” Myin shook her head, she should have stayed out of this entire thing.
“Yes,” Castiel said. “You’ve always believed haven’t you?”
“I’ve always suspected there was something, but I didn’t know what it was,” Myin rubbed her face trying to wake herself to be more aware.
“Don’t do that,” Castiel said warningly.
“Do what?” Myin said realizing that her skin was tingling and she had a headache starting.
“Try to wake up. I’m keeping you here, you are no match for me,” Castiel said matter-of-factly.
“What do you want me to do?” Myin asked rubbing her skin trying to stop it from itching.
“Whatever Dean needs you to do. He needs you to be strong, or he won’t survive Sam’s problem,” Castiel’s voice echoed in Myin’s mind as she sat up in her bed drenched in sweat.
“Mommy, I have to go potty,” Dani whispered as she stood in Myin’s room. “It’s okay Mommy, the nice man will keep you safe.”
“The nice man?” Myin asked looking at her oldest daughter with concern and confusion.
“The angel,” Dani said with a small smile.
May 2009
“Dean?” Myin asked in a concerned whisper as Dean pulled her through the hospital she worked at and into her office. “What are you doing here?”
“I need your help, and I didn’t want anyone to see us,” He said before turning the blinds closed.
“What is going on?” Myin asked hearing Castiel’s words to help Dean in her ear.
“I had to lock Sam up,” Dean said, squaring his shoulders as he faced away from Myin.
“You did WHAT?” Myin’s voice jumped two octaves as thoughts of the hunter being in prison flooded her mind. “Oh God, he’s probably receiving psychiatric treatments as we speak,” She started to ramble.
“What?” Dean asked shoulders slumping as he turned to face her and grabbed her by the shoulders. “No, I locked him in Bobby’s panic room.”
“Oh. Why did you do that?” Myin asked looking down at Dean’s hands on her shoulders.
“He was so far out of his mind. He was drinking that demon’s blood. He wouldn’t stop. He thought he could… well don’t worry about that. I’ve got him detoxing, but it’s not going well. I’m just not sure that I can listen to him suffer anymore.” Dean said looking at the floor and finally releasing his grip on Myin’s shoulders.
Myin wrapped her arms around his shoulders, pulling him down to her height as she hugged him. Dean’s body seemed to almost go limp in her embrace and she could tell he was crying against her chest.
“Life is not fair Dean Winchester,” Myin said soothingly as she petted his hair. “It’s harsh and continues to throw us at everything we dislike.”
“I’m sorry that I came here, and bothered you at work,” Dean said pulling away from her and standing up straight. He wiped the wetness from his eyes and started to walk to the door. Castiel’s voice brushed over Myin again, like a command.
“Wait,” she said reaching a hand out. “What did you need my help with?”
“So wait you guys have been trying to stop Lucifer from rising?” Myin sighed at the grandness of the information that had be presented.
“Yeah, listen… something is really bothering me. I haven’t told Sam.” He looked at Myin across her motel bed. “It’s my fault that this is happening. The first seal that breaks to start all this, is a ‘good man getting out of hell’.”
Myin dropped her eye to the floor as she realized everything was really her fault. She looked up at Dean, wanting to tell him.
“Please, don’t try and comfort me, I already know the truth. The angels told me everything about how the seals work,” Dean silenced her with a hand as he spoke.
“Dean, I did a spell,” Myin said as she pushed his hand down onto the bed. “Sam was desperate. He had found a spell, I was in a bad place when I found him with Ruby. I didn’t think all the consequences out. But I summoned Castiel. I begged him to save you,” Myin had tears falling down her cheeks as she spoke.
“You saved me?” Dean asked as his hand covered where Myin’s had grabbed him. “It’s not your fault. We have control of our destinies. Fuck fate,” Dean growled as he leaned over some open books and kissed her gently.
“Dean,” Myin whispered against his lips, remembering the last time he had come to her motel and kissed her.
“I want you, but only if you want me,” Dean said firmly, holding her hand close to his chest. The pain of everything she had gone through with Sam bubbled close to her heart.
“I do want you,” She said finally before pressing the next kiss on his lips.
“Condom?” Dean asked as he pushed books onto the floor and Myin pulled her shirt over her head.
“Pill,” She responded, knowing she wanted to feel him.
“You’re fucking beautiful,” Dean said as Myin exposed her breasts from her bra. He laid over her, covering her body with kissed and gently teasing nips. When Myin thought she would explode from the anticipation, Dean pulled her into his lap and set a pace to have them cumming all over each other. “Shit,” Dean said as he laid next to her in bliss.
“It’s been a little while for me, sorry if I was rusty,” Myin teased.
“You were fine,” Dean said, slapping her ass playfully, before grabbing his ringing phone. “What’s up Bobby?” He ask as seriously as he could.
“What do you mean he’s gone?” Dean asked sitting up on the bed, the afterglow shattering almost visibly. He hung up the phone and got dressed.
“Sam escaped. I have to go find him. Stay out of trouble while I’m gone. We’ll figure this out when I get back,” Dean said as he kissed her and left the motel.
“I free you from your oath to help me.” Castiel said as he fluttered in the room. Myin jumped and squealed as she realized she was still naked but the angel paid her no mind as he came over and place his fingers on her forehead. She hit the ground, and woke up several hours later.
“Bobby what the hell is going on?” Myin left another voicemail on the old man’s phone. Every fiber of her being was telling her that something was wrong, but she couldn’t figure out what it was.
