“She coined the term “procrastiworking” to describe her tendency to procrastinate on client work by working on personal projects.”

Jessica Hische is actively involved in the design, illustration, and type communities and is a prolific public speaker, appearing at colleges and conferences worldwide.

I’ve came across an article, in which ‘breaks down’ how Jessica Hische uses graphic elements that makes her designs visually appealing. 

- Use lines to give a sense of direction. Line is a visual design element that comes right after a point. It helps the creator to lead the viewers’ eyes from one point to another.

- Add a pattern over type design to give it a personality. Overlaying repetitive shapes on the letters gives a character to your typography and visually uplifts it. It also helps to create a directional flow.

- Use geometric shapes for spotlight and highlight. The simplest types of shapes like rectangles and circles can accentuate a typography design.

- Embellish your custom font with filigree (Filigree - a form of intricate metalwork in jewellery, shaping wire pieces into designs.)

With it being the beginning of Black History Month, it is important to highlight Black artists like designer Carly Cushnie @carlycushnie! Cushnie has been in the industry for more than 12 years, and served as creative director of her namesake brand #Cushnie, a brand she and her friend started in 2008. Although she is not actively designing under her label anymore, she is still influencing the fashion world and her clothing continues to be worn 3 years after her label’s closing. She is one of the most prominent Black female fashion designers in the industry right now, worn by @michelleobama, @beyonce, @badgalriri, and many others! Cushnie has paved the way for other Black female designers after her, and for that alone, she deserves all the praise 🎱🖤

One of the most memorable projects I've seen at #theshow at Emily Carr this year is "Of Loss & Grief" by @megankwn who delivered a multimedia platform to people experiencing pain of people no longer here. Her printed works beautifully told stories of submissions on the topic and her digital platform was elegant and easy to navigate. I'm definitely looking forward to more designs by her in the future.
