Feeling the strain of the lockdown period and it hasn’t been a week yet. My residents are moody and miserable, my son is extra difficult to manage and I feel extra anxious too.

I usually use external resources to manage my sons behaviour, built up energy and my own mood like swimming, cubs, gym and spa etc. With these activities closed when we get home from work there is no stimulation for him except his gaming which he would happily be on for hours upon hours. I am not willing to sacrifice his well being for the sake of me studying. Study is on hold for this week. Quite possibly untill life returns to somewhat if normality, I can feel myself getting overwhelmed so will be taking some well needed need down time in the evenings. Leaving work at work if that makes sense.

I managed to get onto a retirement property management conference last week which I thoroughly enjoyed. I felt I learnt a lot from it too! Typically on the last day of the conference and the day before the second national lockdown came into action. I ended up at A&E with my son who has broken another bone ! This time it’s his right finger! I feel sorry for the teachers is all I can say, however they seem to be managing him well so far. By giving him fun jobs to do at school like, listening and helping young children read. I love how teachers are so creative and admire those qualities. I really don’t think they get enough praise!!

Never mind .... currently tackling a joyful excel spreadsheet at work. Listing, labelling and describing all the assets in the building. I mean I didn’t even know what an asset was until this year, so I’m learning something 🤪

Teams training on Wednesday about our company systems always good to keep in the know and I always learn something new! Was a long two hours of sitting still. Which I do find difficult at the best of times even to watch a movie 😅 I usually end up falling asleep watching movies. But a lot was learnt and really helps with the CPD hours. I’ve got my weekend to get a few outstanding tasks done. Which I will be tackling and then I can finally move forward.

Super excited to get back on to things with my project and I think once I do my outstanding tasks then I’ll get back to it.

Two things annoyed me today at work both external. One was I contacted my local fire station and asked them to come and provide a service that they offer for people over 65. At the development that I currently manage our smoke detectors are not connect to our communal fire system or warden call system. This is a problem because it means my residents are all individually responsible for their own smoke detectors. Which is great if they are able bodied but not so much for people with dementia or poor mobility. I am currently working on this with my area manager. Ideally I would like to have my whole warden call system updated with smoke detectors connected then they will fall under a contract we have with our security solutions contractor.

Second issue today was I spoke to residents next of kin about getting an organisation in called capable communities. They help try tackle loneliness by providing support and activities to help adults reduce social isolation. The next of kin refused with so silly excuse about it not being a suitable service. I would disagree but I’m learning to walk away from this. Because there is bigger safeguarding issues with this resident which I will be pressing forward with instead.

I will never understand how people can leave family members who are nearly 100 and clearly struggling to live independently with no means of support. Can’t say I didn’t try !!
