very funny to me when people write fics where Dan is short for Danyal/Danyul with a y. i understand why people do this. sometimes dan just needs a full name and it cant be the same as danny's, and Danyal does sound vaguely old world/ottoman empire/spooky so it fits.

but as someone who has spent time in the middle east and has met people named Danyal its all just very funny. because the pronunciation of Danyal is almost identical to Danielle, so

ts funny to imagine this big hulking figure with a feminine name

in an effort to aurally distance him from danny (Daniel) people have given him a name that now sounds almost identical to a different Phantom

People really just gave him a MENA spelling/pronunciation of Daniel because they thought it was more threatening. careful phandom your racism is showing

its funny because people don’t realize what they’re doing but the fact that nobodys played this for intentional comedy is a travesty

Just imagine: Danny says that his sibling Danyal was coming over (to visit/to a party/whatever) and people expect Dani to show up instead open the door to find three hundred pounds of scowling muscle staring them down

Also, assuming Dan chose his own spelling, he deserves way more shit for this. Making a name unnecessarily complicated is peak american midwestern behavior. Dan is the fusion of two white midwesterners i dont care that hes tragic i think he needs to be made fun of more. its like naming your kid Lauragh or Ashliegh or something but he did it to himself
