State Sen. Angela Paxton, the wife of embattled Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, will no longer be allowed to vote in her husband’s upcoming impeachment proceedings as a result of new rules the state Senate approved Wednesday night.
The Dallas-area Republican state senator had previously vowed to “carry out (her) duties” and not recuse herself from voting in her husband’s upcoming impeachment trial.
But following delays and closed-door negotiations, the state Senate adopted new rules ahead of Ken Paxton’s September 5 impeachment trial, which now include barring the spouses of members who are the subject of impeachment proceedings from voting.
“A member of the court who is the spouse of a party to the court of impeachment is considered to have a conflict pursuant to… the Texas Constitution,” the resolution states. While the rules do allow Sen. Paxton to be present at the impeachment trial, the new rule states that, “such member of the court shall not be eligible to vote on any matter, motion, or question, or participate in closed sessions or deliberations.”
The rules were passed by a vote of 25-3. There was no public debate prior to the vote, and the names of the senators who voted against the resolution were not immediately available.
Angela Paxton said in a statement Thursday that she had voted against the impeachment rules. “These same rules prohibit me from saying more about the proceedings,” she said, stressing that she will still strive to be a voice for her district.
Tony Buzbee, an attorney representing Ken Paxton, called the impeachment trial a “sham” in a statement Thursday after the Texas Senate announced the impeachment trial rules.
“Now that the Senate has adopted the rules, we look forward to proving every count of this sham impeachment is baseless,” Buzbee said.
Rusty Hardin and Dick DeGuerin, the attorneys chosen to prosecute the impeachment trial, said in a statement Thursday that the rules will provide “a fair trial for both sides.”
Despite the lack of a unanimous vote, Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, serving as president of the Senate as the vote was taken, said he considered the Republican-controlled chamber to be “united” in other ways. “You’re united to take an oath so that justice prevails, that everyone will do their job to the utmost fairness,” said Patrick.
In a separate resolution, the Texas Senate demanded Paxton appear in-person to answer the impeachment charges.
Ken Paxton was impeached by the Texas House of Representatives last month for alleged misconduct, including allegations that he used his office to favor the interests of a prominent donor. He has denied the allegations. Under the Texas Constitution, Paxton is suspended from office while the matter is pending but would be reinstated if acquitted by the Senate.
CNN previously reported that he is also facing an FBI investigation for abuse of office and that Justice Department prosecutors in Washington, DC, took over a corruption investigation into Paxton. He is also under indictment for securities fraud in a separate, unrelated case. Paxton has denied all charges and allegations.
CLARIFICATION: This story has been updated to more accurately explain the new rule that affects the possible involvement of a spouse of a subject of an impeachment trial. The story also has been updated with additional reaction.

I could never be a defense attorney. I could never lie for a murderer, rapist, or evil human being. The way these defense attorneys be lying for their clients because they were paid insane amounts of money is DISGUSTING. I think defense attorneys were created so the innocent can be defended & the guilty to be punished appropriately! Nothing else not getting the guilty acquitted or a mistrial because you are dismissing the oath of law.
I don’t know how these lawyers sleep at night knowing that a murderer, rapist, or evil person is free to wreak havoc on other’s lives. It’s disgusting to watch these trials while knowing the defendant is guilty. I could never become a liar for money. Defense lawyers are sociopaths it’s no other word to describe them. It’s no way they can have a normal home life if they are lying in the court of law everyday.
How could Johnny Cochran(OJ Simpson lawyer) sleep at night, how could Dick DeGuerin(Robert Durst lawyer) sleep at night, how could Jennifer Bonjean(Bill Cosby lawyer) sleep at night, & so many other lawyers like John Gotti’s lawyers.
It’s a disgrace to law. That’s why people don’t believe in the justice system. It’s so rigged & it’s stomach turning evil!

‘20/20’ Airs on Friday, Nov. 18 (9:01-11:00 p.m. EST), on ABC, Next Day on Hulu
Tumblr media
*ABC News
In 1999, when a home intruder shot wealthy 75-year-old businessman Steve Beard, police arrested Tracey Tarlton, a close friend of the victim’s much younger wife, Celeste Beard. Although initially arrested as the sole perpetrator, Tracey stunned prosecutors right before her trial by claiming that she and Celeste were more than close friends; they were lovers. Tracey revealed that she shot Steve to protect Celeste, unaware that Celeste’s claims of Steve’s abuse were lies. In light of the alleged affair, authorities questioned who really orchestrated the crime: was it Tracey or Celeste herself? A new “20/20” features ABC News correspondent John Quiñones’ interview with Celeste, who denies the affair and still claims she is not to blame for the shooting of her fourth husband. She tells her side of the story and discusses how she feels about Tracey, who served only 10 years after she struck a plea bargain and agreed to testify and describe Celeste’s alleged involvement.
The episode also includes interviews with Jennifer Beard and Kristina Fritz, Celeste’s twin daughters from her first marriage. They open up about their mother’s manipulation tactics, their relationship with Steve, and their key role in her conviction. Additional interviews include Nancy Hall, Celeste’s mother; Dick DeGuerin, Celeste’s defense attorney; Steve’s friends and colleagues; and key law enforcement officials. “20/20” airs on Friday, Nov. 18 (9:01-11:00 p.m. EST), on ABC, next day on Hulu.

~*The Story of Robert Durst *~
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Born into wealth, Robert Durst is the son of millionaire real estate mogul Seymore Durst, who helped rebuild Times Square in the ‘90s. At age 7, he watched his mom jump off the roof of their mansion to her death. In 1994, he cut ties with the family when his father gave his younger brother, Douglas, control over the Durst empire. Since then, he’s been the mysterious figure at the core of a trio of high-profile criminal cases.
Tumblr media
First Victim
The first and most well known is the disappearance of his wife, Kathleen. The two met in 1970 and married two years later. Their relationship was anything but wedded bliss: Durst allegedly beat Kathie, had an affair with Prudence Farrow (sister to actress Mia Farrow), and knew of Kathie’s plans for filing divorce papers. Come January 31, 1982, she was never heard from again.
Tumblr media
Though authorities failed to solve the mystery, and journalists chalked it up to your everyday marital mishap headline (“Wife Leaves Husband for Better Life”), the evidence against Durst piled up – literally. Friends of Kathie who suspected Durst of foul play broke into his South Salem cottage, where they found suspicious-looking garbage bags piled floor to ceiling.
Along with several other shady happenings, the most damning couldn’t be denied: Durst waited six days before filing a missing person’s report. Still, it wasn’t enough to book him. Come December 2001, Kathie was declared legally dead.
Second Victim
Then there’s Susan Berman, an American journalist, author, and close friend of Robert and Kathleen. In fact, she became Robert’s unofficial spokesperson during the first investigation. Known to be a bit paranoid – nailing her windows shut, for instance – Susan was the daughter of Davie Berman, a gangster who dabbled with the likes of Bugsy Siegel and Meyer Lansky. She even shared her insight into the mob via several true crime books. That is, until she was shot gangland style circa 2000 in her L.A. home.
Tumblr media
On Christmas Eve, Berman was on the phone with a friend, actress Kim Lankford, chatting her up about some information “that’s going to blow the top off things.” Hours later, she was dead. Eyes soon turned to Robert.
Apparently, Berman had been accepting huge sums of money, totaling $50,000, from the reclusive Durst, whom she called Bobby, while also dedicating many a book to him. Even more curious? The night of Berman’s murder, there was no forced entry.
So who did it? Was it a mob hit in retaliation to the tell-alls she authored? Or was it Durst? Could Susan have been blackmailing him with this mysterious “information”? Once more, the case went cold.
Durst eventually moved to Galveston, Texas. He squatted in a dump that set him back no more than $300 a month; and once again found himself at the center of another brutal act.
Third Victim
This time, it was 71-year-old Morris Black. The two were neighbors, and shared a sort of friendship until Durst snapped. He shot Black, chopped his body up into pieces, and threw everything but the head into Galveston Bay. But wait — there’s more.
Durst eluded authorities after the killing by dressing like an ugly old mute woman he named Dorothy Ciner, who was a “friend” of Durst’s although no one ever saw them together. (Police later discovered Durst had used a similar cross-dressing mute disguise when he rented an apartment in New Orleans under the name Diane Winn. When police searched Winn’s home, they found property belonging to Berman and news tapes about Kathie’s disappearance.)
The bizarre behavior seemed to be working — until he was arrested for shoplifting a hoagie from a grocery store in Hanover Township, Pennsylvania. The arrest led authorities to his Galveston den, where no frilly housedress or cheap wig could hide the blood-spattered evidence across the walls, floors, and his boots.
Tumblr media
Charged with Black’s murder, Durst claimed self-defense and was acquitted. Though he admitted to the butchery, his high-roller Houston attorneys, Dick DeGuerin, Chip Lewis, and Mike Ramsey, blamed the behavior on Asperger’s syndrome. Dodging a 99-year prison sentence, Durst was charged with tampering with evidence and jumping bond.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His new punishment? Five years. That’s what he got. He served just two. Now remarried to NYC real estate broker Debrah Lee Charatan (who makes an appearance in the HBO series), a 71-year-old Durst calls Texas home but still can’t stay out of trouble: Just this past summer he was charged with criminal mischief. Translation: He peed on the candy rack at a CVS. And that’s the whole truth.

I want to be a lawyer but never a defense lawyer. I could never lie to get a client acquitted for a crime I know they committed. I don’t think lawyers were made for that reason when it says “Every man deserve a fair trial and defense” it wasn’t meant to out right & lie. It’s a disgrace that so many murderers, rapists, child killers, child molesters, thieves, & ruthless criminals think they should go free after doing a crime. It disgust me that lawyers literally LIE in that courtroom to get their clients off even when they have committed murder & rape smh the justice system has been taken over by LIARS!
Being a skilled liar does not make you a great lawyer it makes you a demon to me. Defending an evil criminal & working intensely to get an evil criminal freed or acquitted is disgusting. Watching Johnny Cochran defend OJ Simpson when in reality everybody seen the evidence & knew OJ murdered 2 innocent people. Smh I looked up to Johnny Cochran from his time as a civil rights lawyer & helping black & brown ppl get their rights is inspirational but defending OJ Simpson & using the race card was disgusting & an embarrassing to blacks. The law needs to change a defense lawyer should not be allowed to lie in the court of law on behalf of their client. Raising “reasonable doubt” does not mean LIE & MANIPULATE the jury, it needs to be addressed because it is not making society better. Lawyers like Jose Baez, Johnny Cochran, Dick DeGuerin, & Chip Lewis are a disgrace to the law. To defend murderers with so much passion makes my stomach turn! I hate it that’s why I want to be a lawyer for does who don’t have a voice & even if they are guilty I want them to take responsibility & serve their time🙏🏾the world needs to be better!

Tiny mink filmed capturing snake in Everglades and dragging it across the road
LOS ANGELES — Robert Durst, the wealthy New York real estate heir and failed fugitive who was dogged for decades with suspicion in the disappearance and deaths of those around him before he was convicted of killing his best friend and sentenced to life in prison, has died. He was 78.
Durst died in a state prison hospital facility in Stockton, his attorney Chip Lewis said. He said it was from natural causes due to a number of health issues.
Durst was convicted in September of shooting Susan Berman at point-blank range in 2000 at her Los Angeles home. He was sentenced to life Oct. 14. Two days later, he was hospitalized with COVID-19, his trial attorney Dick DeGuerin said.
Durst had long been suspected of killing his wife, Kathie, who went missing in 1982 and has been declared legally dead. He was finally indicted in November for second-degree murder in her death.
