003. INFORMATION  .
tl;dr : a flighty, inattentive adventurer: a follower of whims; personable and sociable but lacks the skills to maintain relationships because she’s entirely (and perhaps too) career focused, checks her horoscope daily and entirely relies on the stars when concerning relationships, epitome of a britney spears / gwen stefani stan back in the 2000′s, still owns a (bedazzled) flip phone, collector of vintage fashion (chanel, elle, juicy couture etc.) a subscriber to the Leonardo Da Vinci sleeping method; catch her at 2 am making soufflés or buying plane tickets to shiwei so she can really experience the culture: will tell you she loves you ten minutes after first introduction because she’s high: kind of unintentionally insensitive to those she doesn’t know and closed off but in like a cool, lovable way.
•    heads up im running on like 5 hrs sleep so sry when this inevitably derails ! ok sweet let’s get into this .
•    so as aforementioned this is jade kukichi, aka, kool kat. she was dubbed that by her friends due to her unique fashion style and sense of dress, and it’s stuck. lbr nobody other than her friends can use that term so if you do, she’s just going to stare at u for a quick sec before saying ‘it’s jade’.
•    born in harajuku, tokyo to a cardiothoracic surgeon of a father and a politician of a mother, jade grew up traveling the world and becoming flighty af, never thinking she was going to make long - term friends and kinda being okay with that.
•    her family has never stayed in one place for very long, though her aging parents eventually settled into a permanent residence in the us around the time she turned sixteen, not soon enough for jade to break the habit of wandering, but thankfully quick enough for her to meet the bratz girls who were just as adventurous and fun - loving as she. she's spent much of her teen life jumping from place to place wherever her interests are that moment, collecting people along the way, but to find friends was the only thing she was missing. jade has a brilliant mind, but she lacks patience and follow through. she needs guidance or she'll jump from idea to idea, job to job, whim to whim.
•    ngl, jade pretty much hated her home life. her parents were an overbearing presence in her life, her mother wanting jade to be a proper lady who also went into a profession like theirs (entirely serious and stifling when it came to creativity, doctor, politician, lawyer etc.) while jade herself wanted to check out the latest trends and go to the mall w her friends – so she turned all of her focus and energy into getting good grades in everything she wanted to do in the hopes that she could be the most successful fashion designer, then leaving town forever.
•    like she spent 7 yrs in high school graduating w honours but she barely knew what was happening in 9/10 of her classes and sometimes she just slept through classes and then wing her exams which she miraculously did well at. it was just not a good idea to send jade to a public school at 11 after being in boarding school for the rest of her life and then never really enforce any rules :~\ she has trouble with that kind of thing.. as in making logical choices instead of saying "YEAH lets go watch american psycho and smoke weed!" skipping chemistry to do just that
•    she loves fun and values doing what makes her happy over most things. it's hard to pin her down and she spends most of her life chasing after ideas that don't really follow any sort of conscious order, bc she’s really got that ‘i’ve got dreams and i’m gonna do everything in my power to achieve them’ personality.
•    according to bratz canon she’s worked as literally everything ? she’s one of those insufferable people who r just. good everything ig and that’s just how it is on this bitch of an earth. jade’s been a photographer, a song - writer and bass player in a rock band (shout out to bratz rock angelz the best movie w the best soundtrack ever), a student studying fashion design, a fashion columnist, a quickly fired nanny, and many other things in between.
•    so when she appears in toonsville she’s kind of out of it that she’s not doing something w her skills and sets up her own business which she loves ? being her own boss suits her fine (for now) because she’s got a Real Job and she's actually trying rly hard so she can fulfill her dreams !! like suck it mom nd dad haha !!!
•    jade has a lot of weird feelings TM about her body and her looks and struggles a lot with her self confidence :~( she had a shit time at school with boys saying she was too thin and she compensated by acting like she didn't like anyone at all for a while and now she thinks she isn't good enough for anyone when rly she is a cinnamon bun too good for this world too pure
•    best friend ever she is so good at being a friend if u text her at 3am to go out or cry on her shoulder shes ready to go at 3:15 even if she was sleeping w lots of snacks and treats and love!!! she is sooo extroverted around those she’s comfortable w, she gains so much energy from being around people and she loves being nice and being around ppl she likes
•    she becomes the mom of groups pretty easily (hence why she’s the leader of the bratz) bc she bottles up most of her own problems to help ppl with theirs!! which is toxic yea but she puts people first always so !! plz help her poor repressed soul!! rip kool kat..
•    still super into the stuff of her time so like.. she loves the x files and bad reality tv shows (i want to be a hilton) and reads gossip magazines on the reg because she enjoys that stuff! also very into girl groups.. ginger spice / posh spice is an eternal mood.
•    anyway yes sweet adult-child of 21 (she is in denial about that tho like she doesn't want to be childish) who is v nice v kind v loyal v baked a lot of time, v passionate v silly. idk what i'm doin hope u like it < 3
004. WANTED CONNECTIONS .
friends / best friends / ride or dies . jade genuinely loves people, loves talking to strangers and getting into intense conversations with people she’s only just met, learning other people’s way of life and bettering herself for getting. she is, however, incredibly blunt and has never once minced words to keep from hurting someone’s feelings or to ease them into a situation. she’d much rather have a one-time conversation with a stranger than make long lasting relationships. she has three very close friends –  to the point of co - dependence –  and honestly, she’d rather spend all of her time doing things she loves such as her hobbies, sticking her nose into the latest vogue, or searching for cute collars and treats for her cat mica w them instead of making new friends. she's also FUN and she'd be happy to go on crazy road trips or buy out a movie theater for a day or anything that she thinks will her buds happy. she's traveled all over, so she’s v well read and cultured. she loves people but she hates complication and won't deal with any sort of emotional labor. she wants to live in the moment and expects everyone in her life to do so as well. just be chill, y'all.
frenemies / enemies /  rivals  . please be her enemy, she needs people to antagonize shdhshd. she grew up pretty much affluent so she’s pretty spoiled even if she doesn’t want to admit it, and that rebellious side of her hasn’t died down yet. despite the fact that she is wealthy and in good community standing, she has a hard time letting go of childish grudges. in general she’s got a lot of suppressed feelings and ready to fight everyone who hurts her friends – like an irritated cat – so, honestly, come at her ? she is sometimes a little fickle and flighty and a unintentionally stuck up when it comes to art / fashion and she has definitely said the wrong thing at the wrong time and pissed the wrong people off, she can’t stand anyone underestimating her or thinking she’s dumb bc she’s interested in fashion. like gtfo !
ex’s , fwb’s , possible love interests .  jade is fairly fluid romantically and is the type of person who hates labels but also just wants to be cherished and called cute pet names lowkey. she loves a lot and gives a lot to her relationships, but typically doesn't want to commit to anything important. she’s gone from one disastrous relationship to another, ending up with a boyfriend who constantly ridiculed her image that was essentially the catalyst for her cutting off romantic ties, quite a recent wound before she found herself on the island actually. worst thing is tht she’s convinced herself that she’s been the problem in these relationships –  that she turns good people bad or that she is too much for people to deal with, she’s not sure what the issue is and she doesn’t really want to know. so…. fuck everything amirite ? anyway, she’s a strong independent woman who don’t need no (wo)man.
etc . pls give me people jade can give a makeover to, people she shares an apartment w on the island, people who think fashion is girly and vapid.. creatives who love what she’s doing, anything tbh << 3

One of the most Devoted, Generous as well as playful Of Friends.
Sir, YOU will, doubtless, be stunned at obtaining a letter from one who had for so short a duration the honour of your associate, and that at so great a range of time; however the objective which has actually caused me to take this freedom is of so fragile a nature, that were I to commence making apologies for my officiousness, I fear my letter would certainly be too wish for your persistence. When Chase Parker hears her as well as calls her rude for wanting to bail on said day, Reese is sending her ideal friend a voice mail to bail her out of a day. And it's realistic too. Your reaction might be telling you that this friend isn't reputable with cash, but considering that they are a close friend as well as would not (intentionally) rip you off, you trust that it will all wash out ultimately and also conserve yourself the despair and also anxiety of saying no to the lending demand. If your partner continuouslies belittle you after you have voiced how much their words injure you, you should eliminate yourself from the relationship right away. 30 Cool Things to do in Toronto, Canada
Tumblr media
Toronto won my heart by tornado. After spending a week road tripping around Ontario as well as immersing myself in nature and also peace, Toronto was just the appropriate combination of laid-back attitude as well as big city buzz for me. I discovered the city with lots of time at my hand and also gathered a checklist of 30 cool points to do in Toronto that will be available in useful, whether you are trying to find websites to see, activities to do, places to consume or where to remain. This Toronto city overview has it all!
For me the ideal way to check out a brand-new city is to obtain as near neighborhood life as feasible. So when I had the opportunity to travel to Ontario in fall 2016, I knew I really did not simply wish to invest the normal a couple of days in Toronto and also race from sight to sight ...
I wanted to experience what it seemed like to live in Toronto, locate my much-loved cafe to deal with my writing, find neighbourhood dining establishments and shops, stroll the marketplaces and also classic shops, and also simply generally find out what makes the city so fascinating. I wound up investing 10 days below and did every one of those things-- and also even more. Not every one of the things on this listing of things to do in Toronto are sights, some are straight-out random day-to-day points I did while I was making believe to be a regional-- however all are must do's on your schedule!
Sites & Attractions: Points to do in Toronto
1) Ride the elevator approximately the top of CN Tower
CN Tower is a shocking 553.3 metres high and also held the record for the highest free-standing building till 2007. It is the ninth-tallest tower on the planet as well as for CAD$ 38 you can get to the top of it!
The elevator takes you to 2 different sight decks 342 and 346 metres high. On the lower deck you can walk throughout a glass ceiling-- if you risk-- as well as accessibility an outdoor terrace. You can also book added access to the tower's SkyPod (at 447 metres) or an Edge Stroll on top of the major sheathing of the tower at 356 metres.
CN Tower, 301 Front Street West, internet site
Getting there: City line 1 to St Andrew Station, Tram to Union Station
2) Do a complimentary guided scenic tour at the Royal Ontario Gallery
I had actually not planned on going to the Royal Ontario Museum on the same day as the footwear museum, yet they are so close to one another, that it would have been a missed chance. The ROM provides a significant collection of art, world culture as well as natural history-- there is most definitely excessive to see it done in just one see.
After getting my ticket ($ 20) I did not also understand where to begin-- and that is when I discovered the gallery guide awaiting individuals to join her cost-free assisted tour with one of the galleries in the gallery. I was all in. Doing a random assisted trip turned out a fantastic idea-- not just did I get an expert sight on a gallery I might have not otherwise visited; however it also took the choice where to begin with me. Excursions are provided everyday and many of them are free!
After the excursion, I went on to look into the existing temporary exhibit, which was dedicated to the glass musician Chihuly.
Royal Ontario Gallery, 100 Queen's Park, internet site
Arriving: City line 1 to Museum Station
3) Check Out the Bata Shoe Gallery
The Bata Shoe Gallery is an unique as well as unusual museum experience-- never ever had I assumed I would learn more about the evolution of footwear on a vacation to Canada! The museum has several collections checking out the historic advancement of footwear-- did you understand heels were originally just worn by men ?!-- in addition to standard footwear made use of by very first country people worldwide. I especially appreciated the temporary exhibition regarding standard colouring techniques!
Bata Footwear Museum,327 Bloor St W, website
Arriving: City line 1 or 2 to St George Station
4) Marvel at the design
I liked walking different areas of Toronto and also simply marvel at the design. The mix of industrial as well as property buildings was something I had actually never ever seen rather similar to this prior to. I would walk down a roadway of workplace towers made from glass and all of a sudden the following block would boast red-brick buildings loaded with shops, nail hair salons and also restaurants. I would certainly turn one edge and stand in the center of a long domestic road lined with two-story family houses with front porches and also small yards. It's difficult to pinpoint specifically which locations and also roadways where my favourite, so simply discover on your own!
5) Do a sunset cruise on the Tall Ship Kajama
When I checked out Toronto in September 2016, Toronto Island had been flooded and also my opportunities to see the famous horizon of the city from the water were close to absolutely no. Then I found out about the tall ship Kajama and also its sunset cruise ships.
The ship cruises the harbour of Toronto several times a day throughout the summer season (May to 1st October weekend). Cruises take 1.5 hours plus half an hour of boarding time and offer extraordinary views of the skyline, Toronto Island and also Toronto City Airport. I extremely recommend doing this cruise throughout sundown, as the sinking sun dips the city's metallic towers into pink and orange golden tones. it was breathtaking!
I even saw a little plane come down on the central landing strip of the City Airport terminal-- fairly a surreal experience! There is a totally accredited bar aboard the tall ship and food is acted as well, making this the best dinner task!
235 Queens Quay West, sunset cruise sails at 8 pm, site
Getting there: Tram to Queens Quay West at Harbourfront Centre
6) Join a free street art excursion down Graffiti Street
Road art in Toronto is an intriguing topic-- it's prohibited, as well as if your building obtains sprayed and also someone reports it, YOU have to spend for its removal. Therefore, there are a great deal of owners and companies that quit their walls to be splashed on for payments in addition to committed locations where graffitis are collected in one place.
Among those is Graffiti Street as well as I liked discovering it on a free led scenic tour! The trip lasts about 1.5 hrs and also consists of not just the street, but additionally great deals of other vibrant locations, art pieces as well as image options in the area around Queen Road West.
Scenic tour Guys FREE graffiti walking excursion, fulfill outside the Black Bull Tavern at 298 Queen St. W, daily at 3.30 pm (May-Sept) site
7) Look into the festival schedule at the Harbourfront Centre
Festivals are a fantastic means to submerse yourself in the neighborhood culture as well as at the Harbourfront Centre there is a different celebration going on nearly every weekend break during the summertime.
I was fortunate sufficient to encounter a vegan event arranged by the neighborhood Vegetarian Society. I reached taste vegan foods from all over the world, paid attention to inspiring talks about values as well as nutrition and also paid attention to tons of live songs while resting among residents in the grass.
Harbourfront Centre, 235 Queens Quay W, Celebration Schedule
Getting there: Tram to Queens Quay West at Harbourfront Centre
8) Catch a film at TIFF or at the TIFF Bell Lightbox cinema
The Toronto International Film Event is just one of the most significant target market events worldwide, indicating that unlike Cannes, the general public can participate in thousands of film screenings throughout the city throughout the festival.
I checked out the city in September, providing me the chance to see wonderful celebration movies as well as really feel the celebration buzz around me, however even if you go to outside the event duration, you can capture wonderful international arthouse films at the TIFF Bell Lightbox cinema in main Toronto!

Scarborough Bluffs is an area in the east of Toronto's waterfronmt with high cliffs rising up to 90 metres above Lake Ontario. There are several parks on the Bluffs, yet if you head to just one of them, let it be Bluffers Park. This park is the just one with access to the lake and also a beach and naturally beautiful sights of the cliffs and also the water beyond.
Bluffers Park, Scarborough, website,.
Getting there: Tram to Eglinton GO Terminal and after that buses 86 as well as 175.
10) Check Out Toronto Islands by kayak or bike.
As a result of floodings I did not really most likely to Toronto Islands myself, yet I hear it's an amazing location to invest a day out far from the hectic roads of the city. Take the ferry across and afterwards determine whether you wish to walk, bike or kayak around the islands-- I know what I would certainly do!
Kayaks and canoes can be rented at the Boat House, a 10-minute walk from the ferry dock on Centre Island. It's best ahead early to get first choice of readily available boats!
Toronto Islands, site.
Getting there: Tram to Queens Quay Ferryboat Docks Terminal, Ferryboat: Centre Island Ferryboat.
11) Rent a stand-up paddle board at Woodbine Coastline.
Toronto has several beaches, however one of the most effective ones is Woodbine Coastline. A long beachfront with fine sand, lots of trees using color in the stretch of turf right behind it, lots of cafes and also restaurants nearby to leave the groups.
I rented out a stand-up paddle board from WSUP Toronto as well as paddled out onto Lake Ontario to obtain views of the city sky line distant. If you've never ever attempted stand-up paddling before, you can additionally reserve lessons, or sign up with a SUP yoga exercise class!
Woodbine Beach, website.

12) Check out the lanes of Kensington Market.
At Kensington Market near Spadina Opportunity, there is a whole lot to do and also see. Trendy coffee shops, bars as well as restaurants line every edge and also lane of the area. Design shops accomplish your wildest inside and stationary dreams. Juice bars are also greener by also marketing plants and also succulents. Numerous bars have cost-free live music and also you'll discover pop-ups in much of the streets or yards off the main roads. I can have surfed the lanes of the market forever!
Kensington Market, Augusta Ave & environments, site.
Arriving: Cable car stations around Spadina Ave, Dundas St W and also College St.
13) Trip a bicycle down Landsdowne Avenue.
I lived near Landsdowne Method in Toronto and liked absolutely nothing more than riding my bike down this street and exploring the neighbourhood. From Corso Italia to West Queen West, Landsdowne connects several of Toronto's coolest areas and also with every huge junction a brand-new experience starts! I found the roadway charming to cycle, due to the fact that website traffic was excusable, and there were lots of various other cyclists on the street.
My AirBnB featured a bike (more below), however there are lots of placs in Toronto wher you can hire bikes. There is likewise a local city bike scheme, called Bike Share Toronto.
14) Explore the Junction area.
The Joint is a neighbourhood in west Toronto near the crossway of Dundas St W as well as Dupont St. The major road of the neighbourhood is Dundas St W and there are several trendy cafe, restaurants as well as takeaways, indoor stores, artist & designer workshops, galleries as well as antique shops-- it's been called among Toronto's coolest areas!
Arriving: City to Dundas West Terminal, bus 40 quits along Dundas St W, internet site.
15) People view on public transport.
You obtained me-- this is not an area-- but the ideal way to uncover new areas and also move around the city like a neighborhood. The City in Toronto is extremely handy as well as links one of the most necessary city centre destinations intriguing for vacationers.
However, I enjoyed to getting on an arbitrary bus or cable car and also riding it together with the citizens. I would certainly people watch inside the carriage and also outside on the streets, left in areas that looked intriguing and uncovered some genuine treasures along the way!
Making use of public transport in Toronto is simple. On buses and trams you call for precise cash money to pay for your ticket and there are ticket makers at metro stations where you can use your card. The easiest choice is to acquire as well as top-up a PRESTO card as well as go cash-free. For transfers make certain to accumulate a transfer ticket from a dispenser near exits of metro stations.
16) Discover the historical Distillery Area.
As soon as the home of Gooderham & Worts Distillery, the Victorian industrial buildings of the Distillery Area are now flaunting a selection of restaurants, bars, art rooms and also style stores. After being stated a heritage website, the buildings were carefully brought back and occupied with cutting-edge innovation and also style. 18) People watch at I Bargain Coffee.
I Offer Coffee is an unusual little coffee residence with mismatched furnishings in and out. I satisfied an idolizer of mine right here for an interview (not worried in any way) as well as thought it supplied just the ideal type of loosened up, yet productive atmosphere for our conversation.
The cafe sits at the edge of Kensington Market as well as it's a pleasure seeing people stopped by on their method to work or seeking a fast caffeine repair. They roast their own beans, so the coffee right here is very special!
I Bargain Coffee, 84 Nassau Road, Mon-Sat 8 am-- 7 pm, Opens 9 get on Sundays, internet site.
Arriving: Trams 310 or 510 to Spadina Ave at Nassau St South Side.
19) Invest a morning at Dark Horse Coffee Bar.
I invested almost 10 days in Toronto, which indicated I had time to create a little routine for myself as a freelance author as well as tourist. I enjoy mosting likely to coffeehouse in the morning to get some job done and after that discover repairs of the city in the afternoon.
Dark Horse Espresso Bar was a wonderful area to operate in-- and I was absolutely not the only one. There are a couple of little tables and also bar locations by the home windows, but I favored sitting at the large communal table between, surrounded by other freelancers functioning away on their laptop computers.
Top pointer: Make sure your laptop computer is totally billed as there are no sockets on/near the huge table.
Dark Horse Coffee Bar, 215 Spadina Ave, Mon-Fri 7 am to 7 pm, Opens 8 am Saturdays and also Sundays, site.
Getting there: Cable cars 310 or 510 to Spadina Ave at Sullivan St North Side.
20) Have brunch at Hello there Beloved.
Amongst the many restaurants and also coffee bar along Landsdowne Avenue, my 2 favourites were Starving Musician, which serve up cosy morning meal waffles as well as Hello there Beloved which is simply across the street. I had a fab salad bowl there and also appreciated being in the sun by the big home windows.
Hello Beloved, 827 Landsdowne Ave, Mon-Fri 9 am to 3 pm, Opens 10 am on Saturdays and also Sundays, Closed on Tuesdays site.
Starving Musician: the Landsdowne branch really shut, however there are 6 even more Starving Musician coffee shops around the city, web site.

21) Have lunch at The Excellent Neighour in the Junction.
The major reason that I ventured out into the Junction neighbourhood to begin with, was the reputation of the wonderful coffee bar and restaurants in this area. I was not disappointed and if I had to select my favorite, it would be The Great Neighbor Coffee Bar.
Found in a quiet property side road in the neighbourhood it appears like it's a local favourite amongst artists and families alike. I had a tasty sandwich for lunch as well as appreciated people seeing through the huge windows encountering towards the household streets. An unexpected treasure!
The Great Neighbor, 238 Annette St, Mon-Sun 7 am to 7 pm, internet site.
Arriving: City line 2 to High Park Station.
The Excellent Neighbour at The Joint in Toronto.
22) Preference the vegan pizza at Pizzaiola.
My journey to Toronto came equally as I got on the cusp of veganism-- I was incredibly interested as well as gotten every vegan meal I can get my hands on. My very first vegan pizza was a slice of Vittoria with the most effective tomato sauce ever, baked peppers, tomatoes and marinated zucchini. Pizzas can be bought by the slice as well as there are tons of weighty, vegan and also vegan alternatives offered. There are several Pizzaiola branches throughout Toronto, but I attempted the one in West Queen West.
Pizzaiola, 1172 Queen St W, Opens 11 am to 11 pm, open late Thursdays to Saturdays, website.
Arriving: Trams 301 or 501 to Queen St West at Abell St.
23) Supper at El Catrin.
The historical Distillery District has lots of good options for dinner as well as lunch, but I highly suggest booking a table at El Catrin. This Mexican-inspired dining establishment dishes up great cocktails and all your Mexican favourites-- tasty guacamole, tacos and burritos rupturing with flavour-- what more could you request? There is a warmed patio with lots of outside seats, so you can enjoy your meal as well as the horizon of the Distillery District at the same time.
El Catrin,18 Storage Tank Residence Lane, Open on a daily basis from 11.30 am (11 get on Sundays), web site.
Arriving: Tram 504 to Distillery Loop.
24) Treat yourself to an established menu dinner at Ruby Watchco.
Ruby Watchco is a very unique dining establishment-- primarily due to the fact that you don't get a great deal of options! They serve a seasonal fixed-price set food selection motivated by Canadian food, just collaborating with the freshest active ingredients they can get their hands on.
Vegan choices are available, but you require to call ahead to ensure they have everything they need to whip up a gleaming menu for you!
Ruby Watchco,730 Queen St E, Closed Monday & Sunday site.
Arriving: Various cable cars to Queen St East at Broadview Ave.
25) Consume all the poutine.
You can not leave Toronto without at least trying the Canadian nationwide dish, poutine. Poutine is chips (fries) with sauce and also cheese curds, but vegan choices (with veggie sauce and also tofy curds) is often offered as well! There are tons of legendary areas to choose poutine, but if you just want a quick fix, head to one of the two Poutini's Home of Poutine stores! Vegan poutine readily available.
Poutini's Residence of Poutine, 1112 Queen Street West as well as 617 King Street West, Mon-Fri open from midday, King St W branch closed on Mondays, website.
Getting there: King ST W-- Trams 304 or 504 to King St West at Rose City St; Queen St W-- Trams 301 or 501 to Queen St West at Abell St.
Buying in Toronto.
26) Purchase Asian keepsakes in Chinatown.
Just around the bend of Kensington Market exists Toronto's Chinatown. In the shops lining Spadina Method, I located several of my dearest keepsakes-- wicker indoor pieces, teas and all type of various other bric-a-brac for my level.
Getting there: Various cable car lines to Spadina Ave at Queen St W.
27) Vintage stores in West Queen West.
It doesn't come as a shock that the trendy area of West Queen West has a few of the best vintage stores in Toronto. My favorite stores were in between Dufferin St as well as Sorauren Avenue:.
Public Butter Vintage, 1290 Queen St W, web site.
Residence of Vintage, 1239 Queen St W, site.
In Classic We Depend On, 1580 Queen St W, site.
The Salvation Army, 1447 Queen St W, site.
Getting there: Cable car 301 and also 504 quit along West Queen St W.
28) Window-shop at Hit Salvage.
As mentioned over, the Joint neighbourhood is a heaven for all points interior decoration and also vintages. Wreck Salvage combines the two and supplies a diverse mix of classic interior pieces, upcycled furniture as well as antique gems for your residence.
I restricted myself to window shopping, however also that felt a lot more like walking through a gallery than via a store!
Wreck Salvage, 2880 Dundas St W, website.
Getting there: Metro to Dundas West Station, bus 40 stops along Dundas St W,.
Where to Stay in Toronto.
29) Stick with residents with AirBnB.
I invested most of my time in Toronto sticking with citizens using AirBnB. I had reserved a personal area near Corso Italia as well as shared a home with a French-Canadian/ Brazilian pair and their German shepherd pet-- what a worldwide mix! I enjoyed remaining in your area to discover life in Toronto and read about my hosts' preferred treasures in the area.
My area came with the choice to use one of the bikes my hosts provided, which was very useful for exploring the nearby trendy neighbourhoods of West Queen West and The Joint! There was a bus station close by which took me to Landsdowne metro station within a few mins-- excellent to get to the city centre and back!
30) Spend a night at Thompson Toronto.
There are some wonderful resorts in midtown Toronto, and if you just have a few days to see the main sites and also get a feel for the city, a resort could be a far better alternative than an AirBnB.
I can only advise Thompson Toronto, a fashionable store resort near the Bathhurst St as well as King St W joint. I had a lovely space from where I could see the CN Tower via the trees as well as went for morning meal at the American-style restaurant within the hotel. The main reason that I assume you must treat on your own to at the very least one evening at Thompson Toronto though is its rooftop.
You could not get a much better view than viewing the sun rise over the city's horizon from the infinity swimming pool at the hotel's rooftop balcony!

2017 in Review
I read mdA’s year in review and wanted to use her template to reflect on my year, too.
1 - What did you do in 2017 that you’d never done before?
Hung out with a group of friends and slept over without worrying about all the studying I’d have to do that weekend, went to a classmate’s/friend’s wedding, signed up to take Step 1 (omgomgomg), went through a messy break up, traveled to Europe by myself, rode on a train for the first time! (which actually took 6 hours instead of 4 because something was wrong with the train and they had to fix it halfway through the journey), killed a spider, read Lolita, went on a vacation for Spring Break, completed a project and wrote a research manuscript from start to finish, went to the Weeknd’s concert!  2 - Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I dont remember if I made any resolutions last year...I usually don’t. But, for this year, I am going to continue doing what I have learned to do these past few months:
1) focus on myself more (my health, my fitness, my happiness)
2) get rid of toxic people and distractions in my life
3) study for and do well on boards
4) No more social media until after boards
3 - Did anyone close to you give birth?
No.
4 - Did anyone close to you die?
No.
5 - What countries did you visit?
Some European countries, Mexico, Japan.
6 - What would you like to have in 2018 that you lacked in 2017?
Better, more supportive friends. I used to hang out with a group of gunners (they literally wouldnt share resources because they ‘dont want other people to do well on boards’ and didnt understand why that was upsetting to me). I distanced myself and I’ve been happier.  7 - What date from 2017 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
April 14th, went on a spontaneous quick trip to Japan mid semester and learned most of renal phys on the 15hr plane rides to and from Tokyo. Stayed at the Disney resort and had a magical time.
8 - What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Taking care of my mental health, getting to know myself better, submitting my manuscript for publication. This year was full of ups and downs and many firsts, so I’ve learned a lot and have gained experiences that I value very much. That’s an accomplishment to me.
9 - What was your biggest failure?
I stopped running a few months ago, but I plan on getting back into it before this semester starts!  10 - Did you suffer illness or injury?
Thankfully, nothing serious.  11 - What was the best thing you bought?
I bought myself a ring and I absolutely love it! I love the way it looks on my finger and like wearing it.
As for practical things, I bough an iPad Pro and now that’s all I use to take notes, study, etc. I don’t use paper anymore and it’s really nice to have all my material in one place.  12 - Whose behavior merited celebration?
All of the women and men who shared their stories using #MeToo. My parents for putting up with me and taking care of me when I visit, physically and mentally tired. The one student in our class who shared his struggles with suicide and depression in an effort to help others.  13 - Whose behavior made you appalled or depressed?
a lot of politicians...people trying to take away net neutrality, Trump and his tweets, the ex who told me [after we’d talked about doing residencies in the same hospital and how many children we wanted, etc.] that he wouldnt be introducing me to his parents or be able to marry me because I wasn't Egyptian and his mom wouldnt approve [Boy, bye], the mom who tried to exploit money using a bullying video.
14 - Where did most of your money go?
BOARDS. Who knew it was so expensive to schedule board exams...*le sigh* Also, a lot of money spent on resources...*le cry*
15 - What did you get really, really, really excited about?
I woke up to the first snow of the season and I could not contain myself!  16 - What song(s) will always remind you of 2017?
The Weeknd-Staryboy  17 - Compared to this time last year, are you: I. Happier or sadder?
A little bit of both...sadder and more stressed in some ways, but happier and more content in other ways. Overall, I’m in a good place.
II. Thinner or fatter?
Thinner.
III. Richer or poorer?
Poorer.
18 - What do you wish you’d done more of?
More dancing.
19 - What do you wish you’d done less of?
Social media.  20 - How will you be spending/spent christmas?
Hung out, made and ate xmas dinner, and enjoyed great company <3
21 - Did you fall in love in 2017?
No, i thought I did at some point tho.  22 - How many one-night stands?
1
23 - What was your favorite tv program?
The Blacklist.
24 - Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Yeah.  25 - What was the best book you read?
Both Nejma and Salt by Nayyirah Waheed were great reads.  26 - What was your greatest musical discovery?
Dua Lipa.  27 - What did you want and get?
A ring, cute Timberland boots, an iPad Pro w an apple pen, an A in neuro (neuro is our most difficult system, it’s a 6 credit hr course with a lab, and I was scared to take it. But, i ended up really liking it!) 28 - What was your favorite film of this year?
I haven't been to the movies in years. I prefer Netflix/Amazon prime and watching from the comfort of my bed/couch.
29 - What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Turned 23. I studied for an exam, but got to celebrate with my family 2 weeks later. Lots of good food and cake!  30 - What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If I had the wisdom I have today at the beginning of this year (2017) haha
If people were kinder to each other.
31 - How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2017?
scrubs 90% of the time. business casual or professional 5% of the time. Leggings, sweaters, sundresses, boots/heels, long dresses, etc. 5% of the time.  32 - What kept you sane?
family, Netflix shows, shopping, traveling.  33 - Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Pietro Boselli *heart eyes*
34 - What political/social issue stirred you the most?
Healthcare equality, DACA/immigration issues, net neutrality
^ Im going to keep MdA’s answer because yes!! 35 - Who did you miss?
My maternal grandmother who's been dead for 6-7 years now, but I still think of her some times. Also, my best friend who’s moved to another state for grad school.  36 - Who was the best new person you met?
I became closer to someone in my class this past year and I love hanging out with her. She is always so cheerful and optimistic. I love that about her.
37 - Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2017:
Trust your intuition and don’t settle.

Tag:11 questions
RULES 1. Always post the rules 2. Answer the questions given by the person who tagged you 3. Write 11 questions of your own 4. Tag 11 people (or however many you want)
I was tagged by the lovely @alligatornyc.  Thank you!
When do you feel sexiest and/or most confident?
LOL  Always?  I don’t really know since there’s scarcely a time when I don’t feel that way.  I feel the least sexy/confident when I’m sick and probably the most when I get dressed to the nines.  I haven’t had much reason for that lately, though.
Mortifying teen-aged memory?
Oh geeze.  I have so many of those.  I’ll pick this one this time:
I was in drama in the ninth grade.  I hated it, but my teachers wanted me in it because I was a decent actor.  By decent, I mean slightly above average for a fourteen year old.
Anyway, I had to audition for Fiddler On The Roof and when it came my turn to sing, I got up to the piano and saw everyone else who was auditioning just looking at me and waiting and I froze.  I was supposed to sing “Sunrise, Sunset”, but I ended up singing “Edelweiss” and lost the part.
Go-to outfit?
Jeans and a button down.  Nothing spectacular.
Dream job?
EMS.  Always EMS.
Favorite villain?
Fictional?  Murky and Lurky from Rainbow Brite :P
Tumblr pet peeve(s)?
The over the top and unnecessary intimidation culture of Tumblr.
I think if we stopped behaving like five year olds and actually talk like adults, we can start actually talking respectfully to one another.
Kindest gesture you’ve ever received?
IRL, I’ve had so many people be so incredibly kind to me that I couldn’t place others’ kindness as any level of kindest or least kind.  I think all kindness is great.  The last bit of kindness I was shown was this past Wednesday, I was sitting in my therapist’s waiting room and a woman came in to ask where another office was.  I told her and she left, but she came back a few minutes later with a Coke and some cheese crackers for me.  I hadn’t eaten all day and I teared up a little and she was just like “Thanks, no one else could tell me where it was and you looked like you could eat.”  IDK what that means, but yeah, it was very nice.  I have no idea why I got a little emotional about it.  I guess we live in a world that’s so full of hatred that these gestures mean a whole lot.
Kindest gesture you’ve ever done for someone else?
I have no idea.  If I talk about it, I feel like I’m bragging.
One Direction and/or solo 1D member dream photo shoot?
Harry Styles self portraits.
Relationship/views on money/personal finances?
I’m the worst with money.  I make very little, as in $11.82/hr at the moment.  I don’t have the most healthy relationship with money.  When I get a little bit of a break, I end up spending it on myself and something I love.  I pay my bills, but you won’t see me with credit cards because my credit is for shit.  Wait, I just figured out something else that makes me unsexy:  I’m broke as fuck.
Favorite dynamic/type of chemistry you like to read about in novels/fic or see on TV/movies?
Friendship.  I’m not big on romantic stuff unless it’s purely a romantic film/other media.  Can’t lie, though, I do like obvious sexual chemistry between two characters.  I am a sucker for some UST.
BONUS: Song, including lyrics, that best describe you?
Oh gosh.
This actually changes a lot since there are so many songs that I could pick and picking just one is hard.  Today, I’ll choose The Alarm’s “Rain In The Summertime”.
Let’s see, I’m not good at tagging people, but I’ll try.  This is, as always, if you’d like to do it.
@styloff @annikaa-mn @ifheartscouldfly @erinsbreakfast @wdmsusie @cantquitu @harrysnumber1record @polkadottedeyes @softheartedstranger @mithfennas aaaaand @johnlennon-harrystyles
Your questions:
1.  Name a celebrity whose work you love, but whom you don’t particularly care for as a person.
2.  What’s one item you lost and miss?
3.  What’s the last “old person” thing you did?
4.  What movie can you see over and over again and not get tired of it?
5.  Give me your top five songs of the moment.
6.  What makes you roll your eyes every time you hear it?
7.  Do you secretly like Ramen noodles?
8.  Who would you choose to narrate your life?
9.  Most unique name you’ve ever heard.
10.  What “Stupid Human Trick” can you secretly do?
11.  Can I have a hug?

How to Prevent Music Marketing Info Overload!
I intend to give you a little rule you can make use of in your music marketing that goes like this. " I will certainly spend 80% of my time creating impressive music, 15% music marketing and after that 5% understanding music marketing material." it is kind of like removing my nose to spite my face since I create a great deal of music marketing material myself, yet if you spend your whole time eating up all the info, it's extremely difficult ever before to get around to generating any type music of well worth.
And marketing crap music has a name. SPAM! You need to consider all the online training courses, overviews as well as publications like shiny items that are drawing you in all various directions as well as stick with one method till you make it a success. The truth remains that if you don't make any music of worth, you are not truly an artist. Have you ever before remained in music marketing info overload? Today I approached my computer system with exhilaration after a long weekend away with the suggestion that I would pump out some articles and also begin to service my new digital book. However, the strategy appears to have gone all rickety. I opened my Twitter customer to see that my buddy sent me a link to a great short article about exactly how to "sing like a superstar," which led to one more and then an additional. So now I recognize the theory of awesome vocal delivery however I'm no additionally on with my mission to give you men the very best music marketing details I can muster.:--LRB-. Keep in mind to self, never open Twitter in the early morning; it's a total bloody time suck!
Tumblr media
There are a couple of points that I have discovered throughout the years (yet that I occasionally ignore) which have assisted me in being more productive in my music marketing and also in music in general. - There are only a really small number of things that need your time. These consist of making music and also advertising music, forget whatever else or do it bursts of 25 minutes every day. - Reviewing music marketing training does not count as a job; you have to set a timer and also start obtaining something also done. - Work in 50-minute bursts of the focused task with a short break in between.it will certainly help you use your body's all-natural rhythm. - Don't read your email until 4 O'clock and set a thirty minutes timer for this job. Set your band e-mail account to allow individuals to know that you are doing this to be much more efficient and also will return to them as quickly as you can. - Give yourself monthly dedications.it can be anything from composing article to calling a minimum of 5 music calls every day. What does an ineffective early morning resemble for an artist? 1. Review 20 write-ups on music marketing and music industry news. 2. Checked Twitter And Facebook for 45 mins and complied with links at random. 3. Worked on the style of the music blog on an aspect that only the perfectionists would certainly see. 4. Spent thirty minutes in the music online forums. Currently, things are that none of that stuff misbehaves and you can for believing that you had obtained your hands extremely dirty in the music organization and also made a payment. However, sadly that is not the instance because there was no emphasis and no planning. Now let's check out early morning to be happy with. 1. Spent a solid 50-minute duration working with two brand-new articles. 2. 10-minute recharge. 3. Invest another 50 minutes editing post from the previous day and also posting to the blog site. 4. 30-minute recharge. 5. 50 minutes songwriting/ tape-recording a video for YouTube to bring traffic to the blog site. 6. 10-minute recharge. 7. Added some emails to the newsletter sequence that automatically goes out to the followers. 8. Half an hour recharge. 9. Called ten place managers and reserved two jobs. 10. 10-minute recharge. 11. Spent 50 minutes answering e-mail and discovering brand-new music marketing tactics in my emphasis area. If you make a dedication like that day-to-day, you will find that your job enhances tenfold and then you can invest the rest of the day reading your email or discovering brand-new music marketing things if you like. The troubles can come when you use that very early ruptured of energy in the early morning to consume material, and afterward when you come down to do some actual work you neglect what you were doing and have no focus. It's really hard to begin generating great work half means via the day since your body has lacked perseverance and power. it's all about emphasis, and also you actually can achieve extra in 4 hrs than most people get performed in a whole day if you just shut down all that crap pulling you away from the task available. However, this article is so essential. A lot of times you may even locate that you read something that appears like it's most likely to transform your life, as well as you will tell on your own that you are making progress with your music occupation if you just master the info. Well. I will let you into a little key. You understand enough now to come to be a professional musician if you utilize what you recognize as well as make progression daily. All of us recognize what to do since it's not rocket science. So when should you feed your mind? Now if you have actually read to this factor, you might be believing that I'm recommending that you never make an effort to learn or intend which you are always blindly just mashing away at your keyboard.it could not be better from the fact because the mind is kind of like a vehicle  if you are going to run miles and also miles you need the right amount of fuel at the right time. As artists as well as music marketeers we require to know what others are saying so that we can form a point of view and include new ideas to our songs as well as an advertising strategy. Below is what I would certainly suggest if you have a full-time task: Discover 4 hrs a day to work on your music marketing then think of it such as this: - Hr 1 - produce web content be it music, blogs or video clips. - Hr 2 - use auto-posting sites like Sound FM, Onlywire, Social Oomph as well as Tube Magnate to push out your material quickly. - Hr 3 - Modify your new music and post and get it ready for publishing tomorrow. - Hour 4 - Refuel, utilize this moment to inspect your email, read blog posts and also make notes. Have a rest. Another integral part of this is that you require to have time daily when you entirely switch off from whatever and also do something that does not take any mind power in all. In some cases, TV or computer game can function. You will certainly not feel guilty currently since you will certainly recognize that you have done great work that day! I kept in mind when I was making my very first album I encouraged myself that if I actually wanted to make it function I need to concentrate 22 hrs a day through of the recording and also placed whatever right into making it the most effective thing we ever before did. I would certainly spend hrs as well as hours a day just paying attention to the recordings like some sort freaky Howard Hughes guy. NOT GOOD! But what I did not realize at the time was that a break could make points function far better as well as provide you an extra point of view. While on your break you are most likely to think about an incredible new guitar hook or a lyric that is most likely to resonate deeply with your fans. If I had actually simply taken a little go back, I think I would certainly have made a lot more progress and appreciated things a whole lot much more. I now take normal breaks throughout the day as well as this maintains me focused on the task at hand and my energy degrees remain high throughout the day, which is wonderful.
Tumblr media
The music grey zone (A massive issue!). If you take anything from this article just let it be the reality that you want to avoid spending your whole life eating up all the music marketing benefits without ever making the cake. (Wow I'm churning out the allegories today like a cow makes milk!). People assume that there is some large secret to this stuff as well as if they can discover it every little thing will certainly be OK as well as the record labels will look after them ... IT  IS A MYTH! I angle' inform you the number of times I have talked with artists who groan concerning the complying with issues: - I've obtained a job, so I have no time at all to service my music career yet lots of time to play upset birds four hrs a day. - Music marketing complication if you attempt as well as do everything you will obtain nowhere, concentrate on what you understand. - I spend 3 hours a day reading every item of info and then I really feel too puzzled to do anything simply quit it, this is the bad grey area. You require to burst out of these traps now otherwise you will certainly get to completion of one more year as well as your music ambition will certainly seem even further away because you will certainly tell yourself that you are a failure. it is just one of the main factors that most individuals never make it since they never ever make a dedication to operate at it everyday doing important tasks that will have a genuine effect. Use what you learn. The primary step back for the music marketing junkie is a little of focus. If you are dealing with YouTube to bring hits to your blog site right now invest your understanding time trying to find larger and far better means to come to be the next YouTube superhero. Then when you struck the computer system next early morning use what you learn. If you follow this easy guideline, you will unexpectedly end up being far more efficient since that time you invest reviewing now has an objective. If you consume all the information like a money grubbing pig you will certainly obtain fatter and fatter as well as slower and slower until you end up being a beached whale and also will need to go for a crappy task that will certainly melt your brain. Allow me conserve your mind men. Find out once a day in a focused location and also come to be the master of it ... EASY! Last Ideas. To finish off this post I want to share my commitments for this month so you could get influenced to make a few on your own. As I said before the worst sensation on the planet is getting to the end of the year and also thinking that instead of making day-to-day progress and also accomplishing something cool you just played Call of Obligation for during and are still benefiting an employer that you would privately like to kill. - Create content that issues and also makes a difference. - Help as many individuals as feasible utilize their music talent to locate a better funner life. - Add to the Twitter and Facebook chatter as opposed to just snooping on that dude I went to senior high school with. - Blog everyday. - Post a podcast everyday. - Blog post a YouTube video everyday. - Include important comment to the music marketing neighborhood.

GETTING YOUR STORY ACROSS (MARKETING AND BRAND AWARENESS)
It doesn’t matter if you’re the CEO of a design studio, a student at the Academy or working retail by day and creating art by night — a day only has 24 hours. If then you want to make something out of your life, time management is imperative.
While all of the people who work a 9-5 job have time management enforced into their lives by their workplace, those of us who are self employed don’t have a boss to tell us when to work and when to have our lunch break. And with no HR person breathing down our neck and telling us what to do and when to do it, we have to do this ourselves.
From calculating taxes, checking contracts, planning meetings to learning about our craft and following some sort of news platform so we actually know what’s happening in our field. Oh, and making art, right?! Sometimes freedom can be quite constraining.
But where in this incredibly dense equation of the-things-we-should-be-doing and having-no-time-to-do-them should we squeeze in the most important job of all — marketing?
Not as cool as being a bohemian artist, not as rewarding as making a sale or signing a new licensing deal but probably much more important than everything else mentioned, marketing our work is the only functional way to propagate our ideas into the world.
And today’s world is already quite full — full of people like us, doing things that are similar to ours — so saying we need to have a strong game would be an understatement.
But while many of us think we need to be creating Hollywood-like movies about what we do or making some blown-up statements on how our work will “change the world as we know it”, it really could and should be much simpler:
Make your art simple to understand by making your process transparent.
Not by showing boring two hour videos of us mixing paints and priming our canvases, but by maybe sitting down in-between the drying coats of paint and speaking about our work. We should be documenting our process — not by defending our right to have one, but by explaining our motivations with simple language and a good story.
Give those who are interested in your work a glimpse into your mind and your process. Document how you clean your brushes (or how you never do), why you use a certain brand or type of canvas (even if it’s because it’s the cheapest — sincerity is gold) or show pictures and write about the books you like to read.
There is always time for a short piece of content.
When you don’t have time to set-up a video camera; why not take out your phone and make a short handheld IGTV video or Facebook video or even a story on any topic that you like — connected with your art or maybe even just about what makes you tick. Lots of content on the platforms you feel comfortable with is the best way to go if you can’t afford to run ads on Facebook or Instagram.
Your work, life or personality aren’t boring, and they surely aren’t unimportant!
Some people religiously reread a few books that are special to them every year (something I could never do), and the intentions and the drive behind doing so are actually fascinating to people like me, who after finishing a book usually toss it away and find another one to read.
My point is; even the minuscule things that we do in our lives can be immensely interesting to some people and in reality, usually exactly these minuscule parts of our personalities give others the ability to connect with us on a personal level.
You don’t become best buddies with someone just because they like art as much as you do, because liking art is too broad of a subject to be relatable. You get close because of having or liking the same kind of artists and their works and only if both of you understand them in approximately the same way.
To get there, both need to first share their personal aspirations towards a certain topic, and be sincere about it. Otherwise it’s like opening your Facebook news feed and looking at vaguely interesting ads about pant tubes — you kinda like them, but just couldn’t care less about them being there.
In the end, we shouldn’t just be painting pictures on canvases and Fabriano paper, we should be painting mental images onto the minds of our followers and soon-to-be-followers. Only so can we ever succeed in expanding our reach to the people who really care and genuinely like our work.
CREATING ATTENTION
Art is obviously emotional and as such its value is determined absolutely subjectively. The big question though is how, because even though ambivalent, subjectivity can still give us a lot of various starting points to think about our target audience.
How people recognise a good story in objects and experiences differs from person to person — that’s why it’s subjective — but usually we can find basic guidelines that can help us define this perception. The main idea behind this exercise is to find what is most important for each person, that we are trying to understand.
What are their needs? What do they wish for? Do these wishes and needs have a certain urgency? Do they provide pain or discomfort for them and can our art elevate or even completely fix their issues?
Even though art is seen as the complete opposite of utilitarian — especially is we look at contemporary art — it could not be further from the truth. If nothing else, the baseline of what art can do is to catch attention. To intrigue and incite curiosity about itself in those that experience it.
Art has to be interesting. It can be either “avant-garde” or challenging, but at the same time it can be personal and quaint; there is no “standard” that defines what interesting is, except that whatever it is we are creating should stand out in the context of everything around it.
An apple on the ground of an orchard is about as interesting as a grain of sand on a beach, but that very apple, placed in a vineyard will catch people’s attention, because they ordinarily wouldn’t have expected it to be there. The same goes for art; anything we do should aim to be exceptional, compared to the environment it resides in.
But this doesn’t mean that we need to run naked in the streets while reciting the Yellowist manifesto, because there are much more subtle ways to stand out, and truly great art is always made in a subtle, but disruptive way. Think about all the one hit wonders in the music industry — they might have been successful with one song, but after the initial boom, they slowly fade into the background.
Their problem is, that they have been trying to impress and communicate to the kind of people that need constant novelty and excitement to give them their attention. And because they focused on people that needed cheap thrills, they themselves become one in the end.
Only those that build their novelty and intrigue with a long timeline in mind and cultivate the attention of the people as a friend or acquaintance, not a passing circus or magician, are able to find true success with their creative business.
Because, while a magician may be able to entice and amuse us for a few hours, after we’ve seen the show, there’s really no point in going back another time. We’ve seen all of her tricks, laughed at all of the jokes and it just wouldn’t have the same novel effect on us as it did the first time.
But comparing it to our favourite book, that we have reread a thousand times, or our favourite TV show, that we know by heart and still binge watch from time to time, these objects and experiences never seem to really get dull.
Quite the opposite, they get better and better over time.
QUALITY AND QUANTITY
A lot of people today speak of quantity as the defining factor in getting your message into the world — with Gary Vaynerchuk being at the forefront of this movement.
But I think we do need to take a closer look at this model.
I still think quantity plays an enormous role in content production — especially as the amount of blog posts, podcasts and images on the web is increasing exponentially — but there is one important truth that many of us may overlook in this conquest of trying to reach the eyes and ears of the masses.
Quality is king and quantity is his servant.
I get why the amount of information is being pushed as the most important factor; too many of us focus endlessly on tweaking and re-editing our content, too many of us spend hours making our images, texts and videos “perfect” and thus miss a lot of opportunities of growth and consequently reach.
The 80/20 rule still applies to everything in the universe; 80% of effect is produced by 20% of our effort. Of course, we shouldn’t confuse this with the idea that we only have to do 20% of the work and get 80% of the rewards.
We still need to do all of the work. And regardless of how much “all of the work” actually is — 5 min or 5 years of input, it doesn’t really matter — the effect is always more or less the same; most of what we do will not bear any fruits, but a fraction will. And that fraction will create the most effect.
Here the real argument for quality begins to take shape; if 100% of what I did was only average or “merely” good, the effects of it will embody the same kind of qualitative force. Good things lead to good results, average work produces average products and services, but excellence, excellence can’t but create exceptionality.
In order for any one of us to reach excellence, we have to first begin our path with average tools, common techniques and boring (and many times tedious) practice. But after such a rhythm has been established, after the almost masochistic pleasures of repetition and rigorous practice become part of our being, I believe all of us need to again venture further into the unknown.
And this means reevaluating everything we have been doing up to this point. A child may have enormous dependence on his training wheels when learning how to ride his bike, but after they succeed in mastering balance, speed and manoeuvring, the support has to be taken away, exposing the reality that all they have done up to that point was mere practice for the real thing.
In the end, all we do — regardless of whether we write, sing, paint or dance — we do so as a form of diary, a succession of traces that we leave upon the world. It doesn’t matter if our creations ever get exposed to the public; even those of us that never publish our creations and keep our diaries, paintings and songs to ourselves , we inevitably all do the same.
We create marks upon the world, knowingly or not, by accident or in order to be remembered. Regardless though of why we do what we do, I believe one thing is for certain.
Such marks should be born out of the highest efforts that we can endure, if not to grow, at least to know that whatever we did mattered, perhaps to some, or maybe none, but always to ourselves.
