So! Tires are both simple and kind of complicated.

There are 4 things that matter for tires in terms of how they interact with surfaces in Snowrunner:

1: traction values(the 3 numbers in the chart are these)

The 3 traction values determine how much of your torque is actually doing anything, bigger number is better and to an extent more weight on a tire will increase this

2: tire width

The wider a tire is the more resistant it is to sinking into mud, generally you don't want to sink into the mud. As an additional note, there are 3 kinds of tires that have different behaviors for this, those being single tires, duallies and balloon tires. For most trucks balloons> duallies> singles. (Most tires will end in an "S" or a "D", the "D" is for double and you want that)

3: tire diameter

Larger tires are generally better with pretty much one exception in my mind (that being the western star 6900 cause she's not very stable and the 55" duallies will help her stay upright much better than single tires)

4: tire stiffness

This one I know the least amount about. from my understanding each tire in addition to their traction that controls things like their buoyancy in mud iirc, softer tires will float on the volume of mud itself and this will benefit more from the mud traction value and harder tires will sink to the bottom more easily and will benefit more from whatever traction value is underneath the mud(it's the dirt traction iirc)

And yes, generally you want to be rear heavy on your truck whenever possible and be using saddle trailers to do that is something I highly recommend (pushes your rears in and gets you more traction rather than having to drag a trailer that wants to go everywhere but upright)

Also torque is king for the trucks you have access to right now, get those engine upgrades and use your AWD and diff locks religiously (diff locks are especially great if you're on the edge of a mud patch as it can pull you along it faster than otherwise)

For gearboxes until you get highway gearboxes use off-road on everything, and only put highway on always on difflock trucks for impatience reasons

Also on a lot of maps there's a bunch of unmarked trails to find, and sneaking a big fucker through the trees can be faster than trying to get thru a mud pit
