Digimon Survive Week Day 1: A New World
Winds of Change - Chapter 7: Winds of Change - Part One
“Most everything we know about ourselves and our world—it tends to be based on gut instinct,” Dracmon continues with a huff. “Anything else is whatever partial information we’ve managed to glean and put together on our own. Sometimes it’s both, and sometimes the damn pieces are upside down or backwards.
“That sounds like…” Shuuji can’t even begin to wrap his mind around it. He supposes that’s exactly the problem. “…a very confusing way to live.”
“It’s all we really know,” says Dracmon plainly, “Bits and pieces, scattered between memory and instinct. But even though I don’t know what goes where or which way’s up, I’ve still got a bit of a sense of what it’s all supposed to look like, somehow.”
Desperate to not be left in the dark, Shuuji seeks answers. But those answers only raise more questions, and it turns out that there's so much about this world that he does not understand—far more than he could have ever possibly imagined.
@surviveweek WOW DIGISURVIVE WEEK!!! it's my first time participating. it felt a little like... cheating, maybe, to post a chapter of a fic i was already working on, but it turns out the prompt for day 1 fit this chapter pretty well.
as usual, link is in the source so that tumblr doesnt kick me from the tags, and extended post-chapter notes are under the cut!!!
part of me is really glad i split this chapter in half. like i said, the original edit would have been close to 10k words, and there are so many ups and downs in the combined chapter that i was giving myself whiplash rereading it. the good news is, the second part is already mostly edited, and with it being survive week, i am going to try my best to accelerate the rest of the editing and get at least chapter 8 out this week.
i got really lucky that today's theme for survive week matched up with today's chapter. i was really struggling with how to interpret "a new world", because that's the entire game, isn't it? how was i going to choose just 1 thing about this new world to talk about? ultimately, the way i interpreted the prompt was in the realization that shuuji has, that this world is confusing not just for himself, but for the creatures that call it home. from the way dracmon describes it, it's just as harsh and dangerous to the kemonogami as it is to the humans.
on the topic of dracmon--he's my favorite to write. back when i was outlining this fic, it was already solidly in place that dracmon would be doing a lot of heavy-lifting in terms of lore. why dracmon? i'll keep that to myself for now. all in good time (:
i had such a fantastic time writing shuuji and dracmon interacting. on one hand, he's good at recognizing shuuji's sudden bursts of anxiety - kaito's anxiety manifests in a way that is much more explosive and angry than shuuji's, but it's still a powerful emotion that he's dealt with before. that said, obviously the way dracmon navigates kaito's emotions is not going to fit shuuji, and it was fun writing dracmon trying to get a feel for what kind of response does or does not work for him.
i also think lopmon would be SOOOOO INTERESTING as kaito's partner. you've got this timid little guy who is SO completely different from kaito, but would be able to tell that there's a gentle side to him that's buried super deep down. kaito would absolutely frighten him with his outbursts, though, and i wonder if seeing the direct consequences of his anger would help him understand its full impact. on a more cheerful note, i think kaito would not know what to do when lopmon says saccharine, kind things about him that are undeniably true, and i think that this would be very cute!!! it's almost as confrontational as the way dracmon interacts with kaito - lopmon wouldn't be snarky or bluntly honest with kaito the way dracmon is, but i think the sweet, innocent flavor of honesty that lopmon would use instead would hit him just as hard. much to think about.
this is going to be a much shorter extended authors notes this time, because the bulk of what i have to say is about lore stuff, and the rest of that is in part 2.
my answers for reader questions!
do you think dracmon is the most knowledgeable of the main digis about how the kemonogami world works?
as i mentioned on ao3, my answer is no, but i won't say why. however! i CAN say that i think the kind of knowledge varies super widely from digi to digi. dracmon may know a lot about what happens when digimon get destroyed, but i dont think he's got the more, social, i guess??? knowledge that agumon has, where he seems really familiar so many other digimon, knowing them by name despite never having met them before.
what do you think the superpower pineapple tastes like?
i think it never tastes the same! one could be sweet and another could be salty, but it's always really good. the texture is like chewing on drywall though.
thanks for reading!! hopefully i'll have part 2 up in the next few days. i'll have to check the prompt list for survive week to see if anything fits… if not.. well, since it's mostly edited, i'll try to get it posted early anyway.

Digital Monster Ver. WonderSwan - Final Thoughts
This was the shortest game yet! Only took me 4-5ish hours to beat. Of course, it's another glorified v-pet with barely any story, so I'm not saying that's impressive or anything lol. It kinda cracks me up that this game is in black and white. Like, I know that was common for handheld games of this era, but it makes me picture like a 1960s version of Digimon on an old timey TV. Ye olde Digimon.
This was easy but completely luck based, so not super engaging or rewarding. I did my usual emulator cheating (saving before battles and loading my save state if I lost). Actually though this game has a built in speed-up feature that would make it pretty playable on the original system. Very nice quality of life stuff that I haven't seen in other games yet.
I feel like expressing my thoughts in a pro/con list this time around.
Pros:
Cute UI. Not as fun as the Sega Saturn game, but sleek with nice animations. The battle/training animations were especially cute. Navigating from digimon-to-digimon while taking care of them was intuitive and felt good.
Not a ton of need for grinding. Training didn't seem to do much and you don't need a lot of money because most items are free (food and medicine). Plus, if you set the clock speed super low then your digimon stay happy for a very long time.
Younger digimon aren't useless, you can battle with them and win (this is kind of a pro and a con).
So many quality-of-life features! From the main menu you can jump ahead in time, slow down and speed up the clock, and you can freeze a digimon if you need a break taking care of them or you need another digimon to catch up to them. That would have SO come in handy in some of the other games I've played.
Since I used an emulator I couldn't take advantage of it, but the linking abilities with other Wonderswan and with the v-pet digivice seem really cool and would add a lot to this game. I don't need to spend an arm and a leg to experience that, so I'll just appreciate it from afar.
Cons:
Jumping into the game was very confusing. Instead of starting you off with a digiegg you're just supposed to know that you have to go to the shop and buy one. Then, I couldn't figure out how to actually check on my digimon. "Lab" wasn't immediately obvious to me and I thought "Mail" would be more like the email feature in the Sega Saturn game. Using a mail icon for when your digimon needs you doesn't make a ton of sense to me.
Battles and training in this game are bizarre. Training doesn't appear to increase stats (digimon just have default stats) and battles might as well be totally random. A champion level can be defeated by a baby digimon in this game. I ended up figuring out that just throwing as many digimon into the arena as possible seemed to do the trick.
You can't do anything during battles. You literally just watch them fight. Guessing that was how they worked for the v-pet, but if you're going to make it a video game then maybe give me a button to press or something lol.
Items were confusing. It wasn't clear to me what some of them did and some of them I couldn't even figure out how I was supposed to use them. (If I can't use it in a battle then when can I?)
I wish this game kept a log of which digimon you've raised, otherwise there's not a whole lot of incentive to tame them all.
Another cute little Wonderswan game. Not a favorite or anything, but it felt good to tick another game off my list so quickly. I give it like a 5 out of 10.

there's a limit on how much you can be an isekai intellectual...
a bunch of analyses have been popping up before me all day so i wanted to throw my hat into the ring. all love to ppl who are exercising their creative minds + ppl like geoff here who just talk about these things because of fan interest but i feel like there reaches a point where exploring the "types" of isekai is pointless? i've seen ppl list out the different types of villainess revenge isekai or fantasy mmorpg isekai but eh why fit them all into separate boxes like that?
i think it's easier to think of isekai as a "type" (genre) of itself with only two categories: 1) a focus on isekai (lit. another world) 2) tensei (lit. to be reborn). this allows for a variety of applications and thus tropes that ppl see so many trends of!
with isekai - in another world
you see everything from:
pure fantasy (inuyasha, digimon wait maybe not the best example but in my childhood mind i count digimon as pure fantasy, fushigi yugi)
mmorpg inspired fantasy/adventure (.hack//legend of twilight, sao ugh, log horizon, overlord (LOVE OVERLORD!)
otome game-esque worlds >>> this is where it gets complicated with "villainess routes" since i admit there are multiple villainess tropes but this is why it's nice to not think of this as a "sub-type/genre" bc it frees you from those complications! (the saint's magic power is omnipotent, the white cat's revenge as plotted from the dragon king's lap soso cute!, the savior's book cafe in another world, i'm a villainous daughter so i'm going to keep the last boss wait i can't remember if she's reborn in this one lmaooo see this is why rules make everything hard)
with tensei storylines - being reincarnated/reborn in another world as *insert character/role*
you see...
the same tropes!!
pure fantasy (a returner's magic should be special, reminiscence adonis, the lady and the beast, light and shadow, i can't think of a manga off the top of my head for this ah)
mmorpg inspired fantasy/adventure (so i'm a spider so what i stan kumoko so hard, her majesty's swarm, can't name another off the top of my head ah i hate lists shorter than two things...)
self-insert based games/novels (fiance's observation log of a self-proclaimed villainess, who made me a princess, death is the only ending for the villainess, the villainess wants to marry a commoner, honestly games vs novels are different applications but i'm not in the headspace to try to remember a bunch of both lol)
*insert line break to give random ppl a break from scrolling but tl; dr just enjoy things for what they are no need to micro analyze*
similar variations occur in both genres (if ppl want to be super technical i guess i'm arguing that isekai itself is a massive genre that has the "another world" subgenre and "reincarnation" subgenre tl; dr) so i think it's honestly a huge pain to try to separate all these trends into so many different types of stories. for me personally it's easier to not get overwhelmed by this gigantic umbrella of "isekai" that spans light novels, manhwa, manga, and mobile games by just stripping each story down into its trademark tropes (aka character archetypes, story structures) and slapping "oh this is a person going to a world that's not ours" and "this person gets reborn as blank in another world". none of this "omg this power fantasy is such a this kind of isekai moment" or "there are 14 different types of villainess revenge stories and this series fits into this" bc AH labels! limitations! circle-jerks via ppl trying to compartmentalize everything and sound smart for leaving a comment on story analysis instead of ooh-ahhing over a character's face! dividing things into light novel manga vs manga vs korean manhwa ft. female characters!
the last bit is mainly why i feel frustrated by ppl's insistence to group everything?
the video linked at the beginning of the post (honestly good video essay, i enjoyed it, i just kept thinking in my head the whole time "marimo these are tropes do not take the genre talk literally") has a baby comment thread talking about "korean isekai manhwas" as a genre featuring nothing but reincarnated villainess' and i can't.
like i cannot acknowledge that as a genre of any sort. the energy i felt reading through some of those insights takes me back to 2012 when all yt americans discovered k-pop and deemed all korean music k-pop from then on! (ppl still do this now, yes you are seen and don't talk to me pls i don't like you. k-pop is korean pop music and nothing less and nothing more. take a few seconds and try to parse apart aspects of korean culture instead of slamming everything into a monolithic label that has the letter k and a hyphen.) it feels so odd to see a bunch of young ppl on ig and tiktok acknowledge korean media that happens to be in the form of a webtoon as "oh stories all about young girls becoming villains in stories they made/played" bc it feels so reductive u.u
(positionality disclaimer that i'm praying isn't actually necessary: i am a 3rd-generation korean of japanese descent do not fite me i am exhausted irl of ppl asking for validation/verification bc massive shove off.)
breaking news! korean manhwa...is just as multifaceted as japanese manga...bc how can comics as an art-form not have multiple genres...huh such a shocker?!?! same likely applies to media in other parts of the world like chinese manhwa and french comics--not my place to explain either of those i just know those industries exist bc of wakfu and donghua shows by Tencent.
at the end of the day it's not like analyzing any kind of isekai is wrong--absolutely not!! i think it can be super fun to think about how isekai elements complicate a story (MCs trying to go back home, ppl from the og world, reincarnation plot-twists) or maybe even bash a series for including some kind of other world element when they could have just written a super fun fantasy.
insert marimo's brief ramble that hey you can get sick of truck-kun's hitting disillusioned guys who happen to be super duper smart or girls who happen to be master chefs/craftsmen but transporting a fully-grown being into a fantasy setting is the ultimate cheat code for making mundane modern technology seem cool and overpowered, and being reincarnated as a fully grown person in a world with a pre-made story/game set-up completely bypasses the need for an author to slowly flesh out world-building in a natural progression so isekai is actually a really smart writing tool it's just that there are some series where the author didn't use it well at all and it's cheesy or clearly isekai was misused as a vehicle for character/story development and it was pointless *DEEP BREATH OUT*
in this essay i will argue...lol i am such a culture studies major!! if i were an english major i would be talking all about writing but here i am having a side-tangent about world-building via someone being reborn wow i love this for me (don't get me started on when an author has someone reincarnate as a baby and the story is mostly them having warm fluffy moments with their family--typically father figures--and getting lots of powers i could and would and probably will rant about east asian toxicity)
but anyway am i crazy????? like yes for being passionate about the technical use of a word like genre (i am a scorpio rising let me be fussy pls) but i don't think it's a lot to ask for ppl to not unironically see "villainess revenge isekai" as the definition of korean manhwa.
idk as someone who resonates with why japanese isekai is so popular domestically + why a lot of korean manhwa feat. the same tropes (it's not for great reasons lads it's actually depressing tbh) i'm just starting to feel kind of pained by the generalization and need to separate "cute japanese girl in an otome game"/"japanese boy finds a harem in another world" from "korean girl dies and comes back as a villainess" bc they are just! applications to the same story device!!
recommendations for any who makes it this far down below <3
// also gladly recommend any of the examples i've listed in the above rant as i've read/watched all of them and adore them v much! //
save me princess
super refreshing fantasy manhwa ft. a princess and her ex-boyfriend having to save the world!
the beginning after the end
an AMERICAN web novel turned into a comic (but see it being not korean/japanese doesn't really matter when you just consider isekai as a genre...isn't it nice to not overthink it?) ft. a super-powerful wizard king reincarnated into another world and starting from scratch--gives mushoku tensei vibes but huge twists!
the reason why raeliana ended up at the duke's mansion
love love LOVE this story--read the title and you'll learn how this girl reincarnated as the character raeliana in a book gets married to a duke!
trash of the count's family
such a good novel!! a guy gets reborn as a lazy oaf and he takes the hero of the story under his wing...plot twists come up later on!
this time i will definitely be happy!
v good and refreshing for a shorter series! she's been reborn 3 times and remembers every time the hero's stabbed her in the back, and now she just wants to break up with him!
silver diamond
older manga but v good adventure w intrigue! a boy who loves plants get sucked into a desert world with demonic lizards and a mysterious bodyguard by his side. shonen-ai not BL but wonderful vibes nonetheless + great side characters!
the princess imprints a traitor
adore everything in this from the world (not in that way this society makes me so angry) to the machinations at play and the dynamic between the fl and ml

Jyoumi Challenge 2021 Day #1: Jelly Beans
Ok we’re here and we’re starting! Big thanks to @jyoumifeels for putting this together and for letting me help with some of the prompts! I’m going to try my hardest to get all 30 down like last year, one a day, each day!
Gotta give all my love and creative energy to my favorite Digimon ship this month, and there’s gonna be plenty of stuff I have in mind, so I hope y’all are looking forward to it! We’re starting with something fun!
---
“I appreciate the help, Mimi, but don’t you think this a bit… childish?”
Joe stared at Mimi with a furrowed brow as she opened up yet another small bag of jelly beans and poured it on the table they sat at. There had to be at least three bags worth there now, and as various students passed by, each had a more confused expression than the last.
“Hmm?” Mimi tilted her head curiously as she looked at him with big eyes, batting her eyelashes as if nothing was amiss.
“All the jelly beans. I mean…” he trailed off, before leaning forward, “Everyone is looking.”
“And?” she asked, mouth turning to a frown as she pouted her lower lip.
“Well, uh…”
Joe blinked a few times, unsure of how to respond, especially with how much Mimi was taking this all in stride. There they were, at Tokyo University’s library, with numerous books and flash cards scattered in front of the two of them as they sat across from each other, while the large pile of jelly beans remained there, now missing one that Mimi had popped in her mouth, chewing it with a smile on her face.
Joe’s eyes looked at his girlfriend’s lips, before slowly trailing down to the pile on the table. Slowly, he started to reach for a red jelly bean, but was stopped by Mimi’s hand suddenly in his.
Joe blinked again as he looked at their now linked hands just barely above the mess of candy, Mimi lightly squeezing his hand.
“Uh uh, no cheating, Joe, you know the rules,” she teased sweetly, running her thumb gently along the back of his hand.
“Not even one?” he asked with a frown. Mimi kept her smile up and shook her head.
“Nope! Not until you answer a question correctly,” she nodded.
Joe let out a sigh, his eyes looking towards the jelly beans yet again. Studying was rarely fun, especially when it came to anything for medical school, and though he hadn’t been entirely sure when Mimi offered to help him study, he figured at the least it would help him avoid falling asleep at his desk while going between practice tests. Maybe flash cards wasn’t the most effective use of studying time, but Mimi insisted she would help provide the proper incentive to make the best of the time they had together.
He certainly hadn’t expected jelly beans to be the answer she came up with, but the inkling of a sweet tooth he had was definitely starting to crave the tiny candies. His free hand gently tapped a finger against the table for a few moments. With a soft sigh, he couldn’t stop himself from smiling, squeezing Mimi’s hand back, before he let go, folding his hands together in front of him.
Mimi couldn’t help but keep her smile up, just about vibrating in her seat with excitement at helping Joe. It wasn’t always easy to help him given how out of her depth she was when it came to most things academic— especially Joe’s focus on medicine— but she was always determined to do what she could, even if he argued otherwise at times. She took the mess of index cards that lay next to her and started to shuffle them up, catching how he looked down towards the jelly beans again.
Ok, she had been a little hard on him a moment ago, she could give him a softball just so she didn’t have to watch him look at those jelly beans so sadly. She had finished shuffling and cleared her throat, crossing her legs at the ankle under the table and sitting up straighter. The young woman shot him a mischievous smirk, unable to stop herself from waggling her eyebrows.
“What is known as the powerhouse of the cell?” she asked. Joe’s jaw dropped slightly as he looked at her in confusion.
“…What?”
“That’s not the answer,” Mimi hummed, wholly satisfied by how she had caught him off-guard. It was the only thing she remembered from her science classes and she was glad that it somehow was managing to pay off.
Joe started to sputter incoherently for a moment, adjusting his glasses as he tried to collect himself.
“T-The mitochondria.”
The words spilled from his lips clumsily, which Mimi couldn’t help but find adorable as ever. She nodded quickly.
“Good job, sweetie! You’ve just earned a jelly bean.”
Joe’s eyes scanned the table for a moment before he found the red one he sought earlier, picking it up carefully and popping it in his mouth.
“I’m pretty sure that isn’t one of the questions I put down,” he said, covering his mouth with a hand while he chewed.
“You wanted that jelly bean so bad I couldn’t help but take it easy on you,” she teased.
Joe ducked his head sheepishly, though when he brought his hand down, he couldn’t hide the smile on his face, and Mimi knew that was a job well done.
“Ok, ok, I’ll give you a real question now,” she said with an exaggerated sigh, snickering after. However, as she went to look at the first flash card, she couldn’t stop herself from frowning a touch. The brunette couldn’t even begin to think off the top of her head how to even pronounce some of these words. Not to mention some of these formulas and medications they talked about and all the intricacies…
It took a few moments to shuffle to find a card that seemed manageable enough to start at, and soon enough she was reading off the question to a Joe Kido who was intently listening and focused in.
“…The abdominal organ most likely to be injured by the fracture is the?” she asked, eyes fluttering up from the little index card to her boyfriend.
Joe’s brow furrowed in thought for a moment, mouth scrunched up, before he finally snapped his fingers.
“The spleen, right?”
“Let’s see…” she mumbled, turning it over, the wide smile that grew onto her face immediately indicative of the answer. “Good job!” she clapped gently, then pointed to the pile.
“You can take another jelly bean.”
Without hesitation, Joe grabbed a green jelly bean from the pile and immediately popped it in his mouth.
“You know, at this rate, I’m going to need to answer a lot of questions…” he mused. After he spoke, Mimi reached out for a jelly bean herself.
“Well, maybe I’ll take one, too,” she said, “Can’t let them go to waste!”
Joe chuckled softly and nodded along, “Yeah, yeah you’re right, it would be a waste.”
“Thank you,” she grinned, “Ok, next question! The… sternocostal surface of the heart is formed primarily by the… anterior wall of which heart chamber?”
“The right ventricle,” he said, and as soon as Mimi checked the back of the card she nodded.
“Great job!” she chirped, and they both reached out to grab another jelly bean, fingers grazing each other, causing Joe to let out a soft sound of surprise, and in his hesitation, Mimi scooped up the jelly bean they had both been after.
“Hey!”
“Gotta be quicker,” Mimi shot back just as quickly, throwing a wink his way. Joe took a bit of time deliberating on which one to pick up next, before settling on another red one.
While mid-chew, Joe went from looking down at his notes to looking at Mimi.
“Thanks for the help with studying,” he smiled.
“And for the jelly beans?” Mimi asked teasingly.
Another soft laugh bubbled from Joe’s lips as he quickly swiped up another jelly bean for himself.
“And for the jelly beans.”

What's my first anime is something I generally acknowledge as a complicated question.
I watched Pokemon as a little kid which is technically an anime, but it always feels slightly cheating to answer that because I certainly didn't know what anime was at the time. Same with Digimon. I watched that but I didn't really know what anime was.
Generally what I acknowledge as the first anime I watched knowing what anime was is Yu Yu Hakusho, but even that's me kind of guessing. I distinctly remember getting into Yu Yu Hakusho and Inuyasha around the same time, so I can't tell you for certain which I watched first. Yu-Gi-Oh also debuted in that same year. I don't think Yu-Gi-Oh is actually my first anime but there's a non-zero chance it was. And of course this was all happening in 2001/2002 which was right when I was also getting into fantasy (to link this to my previous question.)
Regardless, getting into Inuyasha led to me discovering Ranma 1/2 and that was what cracked my egg, so I can say with certainty that anime made me trans.

Digimon Anode/Cathode Tamer: Veedramon version - Final thoughts
Wow, what a compact little game! I guess that's pretty typical for a handheld, licensed game. This one took me around 15 hours to beat in a single week. Nice. I think gameplay-wise this was actually my favorite so far. I really enjoyed the tactical RPG battle system. It forced me to strategize a bit, so there was juuust enough challenge to make things feel satisfying. Probably doesn't have a lot of replay value, but I'd recommend giving this one a try! (Especially if you're a fan of the original anime because it takes place immediately after it).
Notes:
-I was kind of surprised that most of the bosses in this game were push overs. The guide I was following hyped me up for them and then the majority of them only took me one try. Even the final boss was pretty easy and left me thinking "that's it?"
-Similar to Digimon World 2, this game didn't really motivate me to tame anymore digimon than I needed. The game actually just gives you digimon as you go along and those suited me fine.
-Weirdly this game doesn't really feature digivolution in the traditional sense and, aside from the boss digimon, the partner digis only go up to champion. I kind of appreciated the simplicity of this. I also thought it was clever that the digimon could psuedo-digivolve via the variables. That actually made a lot of sense because digivolutions in the anime are like temporary summons anyway.
-In honor of the V-Tamer 01 manga, I got a Veedramon and named it Zero. He ended up being my strongest partner.
-I still think the story was kinda lackluster. Ryo is just borrowing his digivice and his partner digimon and at the end they're all like "See ya! We're gonna go back to our REAL partners that we like more than you" lol. Also, toxic masculinity Tentomon made me sad:
Tumblr media
-Side note: this game's font is terrible. Look at those nearly identical ls and exclamation points!
-Millenniumon low key looks like a Xenomorph in his portrait.
-I'm not going to play Cathode tamer because it's essentially the same game and I've also decided to not do the 4 bonus dungeons. My reasoning is that they don't really seem worth it. It's cool that you can tame the bosses, but one of the hidden dungeons requires you to complete the Digimon Analyzer which I believe requires you to link the games? I guess I could cheat to get to that point, but it still doesn't really seem worth the trouble. If it added to the story maybe, but based on what I've seen on YouTube, it doesn't.
-Loved all of the art so much! Not just in the story bits, but the variables and the digimon sprites were all great. More charming than the PS1 3D versions for sure. The world itself and the battle grounds were a little bland and repetitive, but I liked the designs of the boss dungeons (see the Milleniummon one above). Anything's better than the horrible Digimon World 2 dungeons!
-Just as I expected, I really didn't bother with or need a lot of the extra stuff in this game. A lot of the buildings in town I went into maybe once or twice. I never used Penguinmon trading, Piximon training, Leomon colosseum, or the digimon analyzer. I didn't bother expanding the amount of digimon I could carry via Nanimon because I didn't need anymore digimon. If I had access to this game in the 90s and had my unlimited kid free time, I might explore these features more, but I don't care to do so now. I've got a zillion more Digimon video games to get through!
-I'm trying not to spoil myself for future franchise entries, but it sounds like Ryo will return in other games. I hope he gets justice for his blah storyline then.

Hello it's me again. Another issue I'm having with the VB is gaining and keeping Vitals. I seem to be able to get as high as 30-40 range but then the grey clouds appear and I lose all the Vitals. Can happen at lower vitals too. I can't tell if I'm doing something wrong or if this is what the mon being upset does or if it's something to do with the heart rate monitor. I have kinda hairy arms and that might be causing an issue but I haven't seen anything like that talked about online.
DISCLAIMER EDIT (8/25/21): SOME OF THIS INFORMATON IS OUT OF DATE OR WE HAVE NEW INFORMATION NOW. If it thinks you’re being too inactive, you’ll lose a lot. Also each Digimon has a personality type that you can work out with guides online (determined from when it fires it’s ‘super’ attack in battles), such as Garurumon being the “Active” type. Active types want to be active more often... so you’ll lose Vitals much faster than a Lazy type like Namakemon. The way to get around this is to either not sit a lot all day, instead walking for short periods, or to do battles to keep vitals very high. Having a phone on hand or a machine that uses NFC like the Nintendo Switch can be helpful for battles to keep Vitals high. This user guide may also answer some questions: [link] Some Digimon are just harder to please. I have heard of at least two cases of users with “Stoic” Digimon having issues with keeping the rates high, because that one might drain the fastest naturally. It’s kind of why I took a break from running mine. Additionally, if your heart rate is TOO HIGH for too long, it just assumes you’re cheating or something & you may lose vitals. In my personal use, it responds best to small workouts & rest periods so that the resting heart rate & the readings spike. Digimon like the spikes. I have anxiety & drink caffeine a lot, so my vitals tend to drop when my heart rate stays high & my resting rate is high... As to why you randomly lose them... sadly the device just isn’t very accurate. There’s been a lot of reports of those with too-pale skin being unable to keep vitals easily, or the device flat-out not reading those with tanned or dark skin. Yes, really. A “fix” for this is to tape paper or something similar to the reader to sort of trick it, but this has been working with mixed results online. Sadly Bandai cheaped out with a green-light reader rather than a better red-light reader, so it doesn’t penetrate skin with high melanin. Bandai obviously didn’t consider this with users outside of Japan, which is extremely unfortunate. This is a common issue with heart monitors & I am not sure what can be done if that’s the case.

All that you haven't done from 1 to 15?
Thanks for playing, cupcake!
1. List 3 shipping tropes you love
AND THEY WERE ROOMMATES. I didn’t realize how much this delights me until I joined the Shadowhunters fandom, to be honest.
When they can communicate without using words. It kills me.
THE GRUMPY ONE IS SOFT FOR THE SUNSHINE ONE.
2. List 3 shipping tropes you don’t love
Miscommunication that sits around unresolved for forever.
When writers let their fave get away with treating the other half of the ship like shit and still have the fave being fawned over and catered to, like half of the ship literally only exists to elevate the other half?? (This is... not about what you think it is. And it’s also @ a whole lot of show-writers... -_-)
When they enable each other’s bad behaviors.
3. One emotional aspect of a ship that always gets you
Trust. Really simple as that. But when they genuinely open up about something fucked up they’ve been through or reveal their soft side, it like... gets me.
4. One physical aspect of a ship that always gets you
Height difference. And like, honestly, either way is amazing. I know especially in the mlm ships it’s usually the “top is taller” thing, but like... that is just as amazing as the taller one getting absolutely wrecked by the shorter one?
5. Multiship or Monoship?
MULTI. ALWAYS MULTI. How do people with only one ship even live?
6. Rare pairs or Mainstream?
Rare pairs. It never ceases to terrify me when I realize the ship I like is actually really very popular. I don’t know, it’s just... impossible to connect for me then? It’s so large, there are so many here who have already been here forever, there is ten thousand set-in-stone fanons for this ship already? I prefer to sail a smol sailing ship with a crew where basically everyone on board kinda knows each other, or like at least knews each other threw someone both know. That way also makes it easier for me to find... footing in the fandom. Also, all cards are still on the table. You get to be the first to write trope x, instead of the 10th this week alone. And I dunno, but it’s fun to be the first to do something, or not even just the first, just... when something hasn’t been done to death already.
7. Polyamory or Monogamy?
Yikes, I genuinely hate that phrasing, like... it links so much with “monogamy means being faithful” and making everything else seem like cheating, not to mention polyamorous people can be in monogamous relationships too, so it should be polyamory vs monoamory.
But technicalities aside, poly all the freaking way.
8. If the ship is physical, reversible or not?
...what? *blinks* Like. I... genuinely have no idea what this question means?? Reversible? In what context? How is the ship physical?
9. Do you always have romantic ships for fandoms?
Yes, always, otherwise I don’t consider it a “fandom” of my own.
Things I have ships for, I am actually invested in. Things I don’t have ships for are just... casual watches for me and I wouldn’t look at them as a fandom of mine. Something only becomes a fandom to me if I have a baseline investment in it and that, for me, always shows in shipping.
10. How important is the sexual part (if any) of your ship?
Very, actually. As an asexual person, the only thing I’ve ever seen in sex was a sign of trust, because you are literally never more vulnerable than when you are naked and bare and doing this. I always looked at sex as that, as a huge sign of trust in each other. That’s why the majority of my oneshots end on a sex scene, actually. It’s like... “this is where they are, they trust each other so much they share their bodies with each other and now they lay together, in each other’s arms in a gentle embrace, with nothing but this content feeling of being with the one they love on their mind”.
(It’s why I, to this day and beyond this day, will never understand casual hook ups with total strangers. The mere idea is utterly disturbing and terrifying to me, tbh.)
11. Opinion on platonic ships?
Friendships and familiar relationships are sooo important and honestly my favorite thing about fics is when they dive into what canon has only scratched upon. The potentials for friendships and family dynamics that canon deemed a waste of time to spend screentime on so they only made throwaway remarks that hint at these dynamics. I love exploring those. *^*
12. List 3 ships you currently love
Let’s skip the super obvious ones and go to the ones I’m currently most obsessing over in my mind these days:
Diamond no Ace; Okumura Koushuu/Sawamura Eijun & Miyuki Kazuya/Sawamura Eijun (I obsess over both equally these days so they tie. Also I am considering an OT3 to literally tie them)
Justice League Action; Superman/Wonder Woman (I started watching the cartoon. Yes, literally just because SuperWonder is canon in this. It’s actually fun beyond that though)
Haikyuu!!; Kozume Kenma/Hinata Shouyou
13. List 5 OTPs from past fandoms
Oooh funsies, mmmh, let’s do some that I haven’t mentioned a billion times like Kai/Rei on Beyblade or Puppyshipping...
Digimon; Motomiya Daisuke/Takaishi Takeru
Fast and the Furious; Dominic Toretto/Brian O’Conner
Glee; David Karofsky/Kurt Hummel/Noah Puckerman
Heroes; Gabriel Gray/Peter Petrelli
Inuyasha; Kouga/InuYasha
I have so many past fandoms and so many past ships so here, have a relatively broad coverage of mlm ships. Ask if you want a wlwor m/f version xDDD
14. Opinion on the importance of marriage?
Yes.
I mean, even beyond fanfiction, I find marriage pretty important. I think it’s weird if you’ve been together for years and are of the opinion that you don’t plan on leaving this other person to then not marry them, tbh??
Also, it gives the nice fanfiction opportunity of taking on the spouse’s name in case of [insert abusive family here]. :D
15. Opinion on kids?
Very much yes. Seriously, creating a next gen OC line-up is one of the most fun things about being in a fandom? Also, this is how I know I have gotten Very Invested in something. My very shiny ones always get the next gen line-up, I looove it. And not just for the OTP, but like a legitimate line-up, for my favorite side-ships too, to imagine the dynamics between the kids, friendships, rivalries and love-stories unfolding them. You know I’ve dug myself in too deep when I create a third gen, where the next gen have kids together.
(My PJO line-up went a total of four OC generations deep.)
(My DC one is at two generations right now. Some parties are still in flux. Admittedly, it is also my biggest one after PJO considering it covers all my favorite Justice League members.)
(My Shadowhunters line-up is three generations.)

Butter-Fly Memorial Version
Since I forgot to pick a Butter-Fly from version @earlgreymon‘s Odaiba Memorial template, here it is! I also love these fan covers: Ricardo Silva’s (piano version + opening version, hispanic latino cover, makes me cry every time and then it gets super cool SI TU LO DESEAS PUEDES VOAAAR), SLSMusic’s (piano version, instrumental), Raon Lee’s (korean, her voice is spectacular, and she’s doing a digimon cover album this year),  Paulo Cuevas’s (another latino hispanic cover, piano version). And while we’re at it, I’m gonna cheat and link a video from an anime event I almost went to in 2015, with a brazilian singer doing a Biggest Dreamer cover in portuguese. Look at all these people singing a digimon song at the top of their lungs!

Kizuna Countdown
18 -  Favorite tri. installment
This has got to be the easiest question in the challenge, because Kokuhaku is the best, at least it is for me. And I’ll give you one simple argument:
Tumblr media
SORA’S HAIR IS IN BRAID FORM!!!!!
That’s all you gotta hear from me.
Jokes aside, if you want to read my reactions to Kokuhaku, here’s the link, and I gotta be super honest here, I confuse episode 5 and 6 a lot. Like, those two are tangled in my brain and I don’t really know where one ends???
In Kokuhaku we had everything: drama, comedy, and more drama!!! Also, great characterization and excelent pacing. It was everything I hoped tri. would be. I cheated and instead of rewatching it, I read my comments (I’m so funny) and while we didn’t get many Takeru/Koushiro scenes, both their issues were CRAZY. Koushiro frustrated because he had no idea how to stop the reboot and Takeru knowing he would LOSE PATAMON AGAIN!!!!
We also got Mom!Sora checking her list to make sure she had called everyone, Agent!Yamato confronting Maki, Koushiro!Burrito form, character development!Jou being the second showing up to battle and we even got DIGI JESUS BACK!!!! Ah, it was God tier Digimon movie.
