I've been getting asked a couple times how to get into Digimon, so I figured I collect some posts and info in a master post!

Digimon is a multi media franchise, so there really is no one way to get into Digimon. But I hope this post can help people getting an idea what to look for.

As I mentioned, Digimon is a multi media franchise, and there is some content of just general Digimon lore on Digimon Web. There some fun facts to read up upon! There's also the official Digimon Reference Book / Encyclopedia online.

Besides that, Digimon released many many "Digivice" toys tying into the animes, but also figurines and much more. I don't have nearly enough expertise to cover them in more details, but there is a LOT! You can check out the LCD Toy history on the official website, and even that doesn't cover all of it!

▙▚ ANIME

The first and second season of the anime, and the surrounding movies, share a continuity, but aside from that all seasons are self contained and you can watch whichever you want.

I know some people like the english dub, but personally, I honestly don't like it at all... I do really like the german dub, but I really recommend watching the Japanese version. It's my favorite and is considered canon.

They're also almost all widely different! No Digimon game is truly like another! Digimon has several comic or manga adaptations, some longer but many short promotional works for new releases.

The big one right now is Digimon Liberator! I've been loving it personally. It's a full color web comic, so it has not normal page layout and instead is just scrolling. ▙▚ NOVELS

There two big web Novels of note for the Digimon franchise. Firs one is Digimon Seekers, which ran from 2023-2024 and consistes of 4 Chapters plus an Epilogue. You can read it on the official Website, but many fans noted the english translation being not great at certain points, so some dedicated fans edited the translation to fix the issues.

The second is Digimon Liberator, which is not simply a novel version of the web comic, but instead tells the story from the perspective of a different protagonist! From what I can tell, the translation for this one is better, although they sometimes mess up the card effects, so make sure to read the actual cards, which are included as pictures.

▙▚ CARDS

Finally, what this blog is all about really, the Card Game. There have been many Digimon Card Games over the years, but I'm really only familiar with the current one. If you want to try learning it, there is a tutorial app in the Play Store, and a Rules video on the official YouTube channel that covers the essentials. There are also Fan made simulators to play online, with dedicated fan bases that you will surely find people to play with or show you the ropes!

If you just like the look of some of the cards, I encourage you to check the pricing on cards you got your eyes on. If the card isn't insanely diffcult to get and important for meta decks, you have fairly good chances to get some gorgeous cards for reasonable prices! I also collect Pokémon Cards, and let me tell you, the production quality of the Digimon Cards is leagues above.

Digimon TCG (Fan Made) Online Simulators

These are non-commercial fan made passion projects and not affiliated with Bandai.

Please be considerate when encountering issues or bugs, and help the dev teams by reporting them.

There is no intention to decide one is better than the other, and you can use the one that better suits your personal needs. Or use both!

First off, both of these are amazing and the development teams behind them deserve our respect and appreciation!

I don't know about Project Drasil, but the DCGO is also open to people who are familiar with unity to join the team.

Project Drasil:

Pros: No set up (in browser), chat to communicate with opponent

Cons: Not automated

[Up to date with Japanese Format]

Hovering over cards, or clicking on them to lock on, displays the details of the card on the left side of the screen. Hovering over keywords shows an explanation.

Project Drasil is a fan made in browser online simulator for the Digimon Card Game which you can get started on right away!

It is not automated, meaning you have to keep track of ongoing effects and execute your moves yourself.

To help with this there is an in game chat that displays all the actions, and can be used to inform your opponent on your plays.

The layout is also very clean and easy to read!

Next the DCGO - Digimon Card Game Online Simulator

Pros: Automated, Customizable

Cons: Requires Set up, updates and Disk space

[Slightly delay on English Format]

The settings allow you to further customize on actions to automate, or turn of visual animations.

The DCGO Sim is a fan made online simulator desktop app.

You will need a moment to set it up, and download the card assets yourself (they provide an automated downloader though). You will also have to manually update it when newer versions are released.

(automatic updaters cost a lot of money and the developers would have to pay out of pocket)

But once you're done with the set up, you got an automated simulator! The sim automatically moves the memory counter, executes or asks you how to execute effects, and more.

Left-clicking on a card will display a large image of the card, and right-clicking on a card in play will list all current effects on it, such as inherited effects, or temporary effects.

You can join their discord here to stay updated.

Also with the cards being in a desktop folder, I was able to inset higher resolution card art!

Other textures can also be changed and customized. There is a dedicated channel in the discord for the community to share their assets!

(Long time no see, fellow digidestined! Anyone still around?)

I just finished the Truthful route of Digimon Survive. I had only played Harmony so far but the new game announcement and the urge to procastinate my undergraduate thesis pushed me back into trying to complete the story and getting all the achievements on Steam (currently at 37/46). I took some notes of my impressions during the Truthful playthrough in the hopes of writing a proper Steam review (in Portuguese) once I perfected the game, but now I think it would be fun to expand on this idea and post one here as well for the English-speaking community. I miss this space to go on full Digimon hiperfixation mode lol and I think it's an interesting time window to introduce more people to the uniqueness of Survive while we wait for the release of Time Stranger, the next installment of the more "traditional" Digimon Story series.
