Sadboi's Incredibly Strange Multifandom Adventure - Chapter 8: Reconnecting With One's Digital Roots

And with that, the next world Sadboi set upon was the world of "Digimon". She felt the need to reconnect with her digital roots, so why not set upon the one universe which is home to the Digital World? Of course, she did not mistake herself for the digimon of the world, but couldn't help but feel a kinship with the critters for their shared digital heritage.

The transition was surprisingly smooth. One moment they were in the clearing, surrounded by the frosty remnants of the infection, and the next, they were in a lush forest of pixels and data streams. The air was alive with the hum of digital life, and the trees looked like they were made of glitched-out pixels.

"Whoa," said Patrick, his eyes wide in amazement. "This place is wild!"

The French Narrator nodded, his diving helmet gleaming in the artificial sunlight. "Indeed, it is a fascinating realm. But we must be cautious. The Digital World is fraught with peril."

They had barely taken a few steps before they were surrounded by a pack of hungry-looking Goblimon. The little creatures snarled, their digital eyes glowing with hunger.

"Looks like we're not the only ones who've had a taste for adventure," Sponge Bob quipped, brandishing his jellyfish-like weapon.

But before the battle could begin, a majestic figure emerged from the shadows. It was Agumon, the fiery Digimon.

"Who dares to disturb the peace of the Digital World?" Agumon roared, his voice a mix of digital static and fiery determination.

Sadboi stepped forward, her vibesense tingling with excitement and a hint of nervousness. "We come in peace," she called out. "We are here to help."

Agumon studied her for a moment, his fiery gaze piercing through the pixelated foliage. Then, to their relief, he lowered his guard. "You carry the light of hope," he said. "I can feel it."

The Goblimon retreated, recognizing the power and authority in Agumon's voice. The digital guardian looked at them curiously. "You are not from here, but you fight for good. What brings you to this realm?"

Sadboi explained their journey, her voice a mix of wonder and urgency. "We've come from many worlds, each facing its own darkness. We seek to restore balance and harmony wherever it's been lost."

Agumon nodded solemnly. "Then you are the heroes we've been awaiting. The Digital World is in turmoil, plagued by a digital plague that threatens to consume all life."

The French Narrator leaned in, his interest piqued. "A digital plague, you say? How intriguing. Tell us more, mon ami."

Agumon led them deeper into the forest, recounting tales of corrupted data, distorted landscapes, and the rise of the malevolent Digimon who sought to rule the realm. "The Great One, we call him," he said. "He feeds on fear and chaos. His influence is spreading like a virus."

As they traveled, the group encountered more Digimon, each with their own stories of hardship and loss. The French Narrator translated for those who didn't speak their language, while Sadboi's vibesense allowed her to understand the emotional undertones of their digital speech.

The digital landscape grew darker, the air thick with the scent of burnt circuitry. The trees morphed into twisted structures of code and malfunction. They could feel the Great One's presence, a cold, digital void that seemed to suck the very life from the world around them.

They reached a clearing, the heart of the infection. A towering structure of glitching pixels and corrupted data loomed before them. "This is his lair," Agumon said, his voice low. "The source of the plague."

The group looked at each other, their expressions a mix of fear and resolve. "We must go in," Sadboi said, her eyes narrowing. "We can't let this continue."

The French Narrator nodded. "Let us proceed with caution, but swiftly. Time is of the essence."

Together, they ventured into the corrupted realm, the very fabric of the world around them trying to push them back. Sadboi's vibesense was a beacon in the digital chaos, guiding them through the labyrinth of corrupted data. They fought off waves of infected Digimon, each victory bringing a semblance of order back to the world.

Their final confrontation with the Great One was a battle for the ages. The creature was a monstrous amalgamation of twisted code and malicious intent, its eyes a swirling maelstrom of digital despair. But Sadboi and her companions were ready.

With a cry of determination, she focused her vibesense into a concentrated beam, aiming straight for the heart of the beast. The Great One roared, his form flickering as he attempted to resist. But the power of her emotions, the collective hope and courage of their friends and all they'd met on their journey, was too much.

The digital plague recoiled, the corrupted data dissolving before their eyes. The Great One's form wavered, and with one final surge of power, Sadboi sent the infection scattering into the void.

The clearing grew bright as the digital world healed around them, the trees and creatures returning to their natural state. The Digimon cheered, their voices a symphony of relief and gratitude.

Agumon looked at Sadboi with newfound respect. "You truly are a hero," he said. "The Digital World is forever in your debt."

The French Narrator clapped his hands together. "Magnificent! Now, let us not linger. There are more worlds to save!"

And so, with a new ally by their side, they continued their journey, ready to face whatever challenges the multiverse had in store for them next.

Meanwhile, Koushirou’s associated colour (the one he is usually seen wearing) is “Orange”:

“Cheerful and optimistic, orange is energetic, spontaneous, and dynamic. It’s a color that resonates with young people, but that can also be arrogant and prideful. It stimulates us, mentally and physically. Still, it can be superficial, insincere, and exhibitionist. At the same time, orange is an attention-getter without being too aggressive, and it conveys transformation. As an open-minded and risk-taker color that changes with the seasons, orange is uplifting, offering emotional endurance and igniting motivation in dark times.”

To sum it all up:

At first glance, not all attributes of the colour purple seem to immediately connect well with Koushirou’s general characterization. But it is that exact spectrum that makes his character so interesting: On one hand, he is the literal personification of “wisdom seeking”, understanding and acknowledging that there is a lot he has yet to learn - and that is what he is striving for with unbroken devotion and a fascination with the supernatural, mysterious nature of the Digital and all the other worlds out there. He is also evoking the general impression of being more introverted and independant, but also has that sense of bravery and courage that moves things forward. His compassion - especially towards those that are dear to him, causing him to try and be as helpful as humanly possible - shall also not be overlooked.

On the other hand, it is rather ironic that “spirituality” seems to play such a significant role when it comes to his signature colour - as his early attempts of being more spiritual (and meditating) actually led to his soul to get corrupted, accompanied by all negative traits purple generally has to offer.

This may also mean that those are the obstacles he has to overcome; not only has he been trying to escape reality into an “artifical world”, focusing on literally everything but self-knowledge, but he is also easily getting irritated and emotional once he’s overwhelmed, unable to solve "mysteries” and thus is not able to “function”. He surely wants to overcome obstacles, but may need to find a true balance (and harmony) within himself first to achieve that - and for that, he also has to appreciate himself more, rely more on his intuition and even his own imagination.

The association with “femininity” may also be something that doesn’t immediately come to mind (even though there are theories and headcanons out there that deserve their own analysis post). However, this angle becomes a lot more intersting when compared to “pink” being a lighter version of purple, as both him and Hikari share a special connection to the Digital World, sensing when things aren’t going as planned, etc. Him combining the best of both worlds when looking at both Sora and Yamato is also an interesting take - which is actually a shame, since we haven’t really seen these three interact as a friend group more regurlarly. Takeru and Mimi serving as his complementary colours on the other hand also makes sense, as they’re both becoming more outgoing forces to pull him out of his comfort zone. This also goes for his associated colour orange (which may also be seen as complementary colour), as not only does it signify Taichi being the “brawns to his brains”, but also his closeness to themes of bravery and courage. Because while he is more contemplative, he is definitely a hands-on go-getter that may endure one or another obstacle to reach his goal.

Gammamon is here! 🦖

Holograms, a new technology. In the near future, paranormal phenomena frequently occur. Humans began to refer to them as...Hologram Ghosts.

Dear Tumblr,

Hi there! I'm Gammamon! I'm a Digimon, short for Digital Monster. We come from the Digital World, a world we were born into that exists alongside the human world. Occassionally gates appear that let us enter the human world. Some of us are even lucky enough to materialize there! We were created from an artificial intelligence computer virus that spread online. I lived a normal life in the Digital World until the fateful day I met Hokuto...

He told me to make my way to his son Hiro's dorm room at Hazakura Academy in the Digital World. Reports were flooding in on social media about a ghost attacking students in the human world there. People referred to it as the Sewn-lip Man, and students who encountered it saw clocks go haywire. They were found to be rapidly-aged, decrepit husks of their former selves afterwards. Hiro and his classmate Kotarou were curious about the matter and broke into the auditorium where the Sewn-lip Man was rumored to be. Like clockwork, the Sewn-lip Man appeared and turned out to be Clockmon! Kotarou was incapacitated and became an elderly husk while Hiro was saved in the nick of time by the school's sensei intervening!

In his dorm room that night, while I was invisible in the human world, I helped Hiro find his father's collection of DIM cards and Digivice-V-s. I finally met him face to face once he plugged my DIM card into one of them! Doing so transported him to the Digital World! While there, a pre-recorded hologram message of his father played, filling him in on everything. He told Hiro that I was going to be his little brother! After returning to the human world, Hiro used his Digivice-V- to materialize me there and shortly afterwards Clockmon attacked! He was back for revenge after the previous interruption! I attacked Clockmon to protect Hiro, battling him in a nearby park with Hiro by my side. Hiro tossed a branch into Clockmon's stream of time power, aging it into a full grown tree to free me from his grasp! A well placed Breaclaw attack ended the battle, restoring youth back to all of his victims.

Later on, Hiro met with Ruli, the girl behind the popular Lirurun page on social media. A trickster named Dracumon was placing curses on humans, including Ruli. He caused her hands to become see-through and incapable of touching anything. Hiro and I, along with Ruli's new Digimon friend Angoramon, battled Dracumon to stop his antics. We fought hard, but Dracumon had a trick up his sleeve. He possessed Hiro and I to do his bidding! After Ruli put on a Digivice-V- and inserted Angoramon's DIM card into it, he knocked some sense into us and snapped us out of Dracumon's control. After we won the fight, Dracumon was forced to undo his curses.

A few days after this, Kiyoshiro (who also goes by Senpai), had a run-in with Jellymon. Kiyo is the leader of the male dormitory at Hazakura Academy. After playing a few pranks on him, forcing one of Hiro's Digivice-V-s onto his wrist and inserting her own DIM card into it herself, Jellymon became Kiyo's partner Digimon. Her mischievousness lead her to use his digital talismans, which he hacked into thousands of devices around the area out of paranoia, as a platform to hack Japan's digital money management system. This prank led to the summoning of Majiramon, Quetzalmon, Bitmon and Goatmon to restore the flow of wealth. Majiramon hit Kiyo's dorm in the Digital World with a tail attack and began summoning 108 arrows of light. Luckily for Kiyo and Jellymon, Majiramon showed mercy after an apology and the destruction of the last virtual talisman by Jellymon's Bibi Thunder attack.

Hiro, Ruli and Kiyo now work together to solve mysteries and put a stop to the antics caused by Digimon in the area! With the help of their partner Digimon, including yours truly, they fight to restore order and undo chaos caused by unruly Digimon that most humans identify as Hologram Ghosts. Sometimes the going gets tough however, which is where my evolutions come in handy.

Betel Gammamon is my go-to form for pure strength and agility, giving me the muscle and power I need to fight tough foes. Kaus Gammamon is a form that lets me spread my wings and fly, allowing me to cover great distances quickly and level the playing field against flying enemies. When Betel Gammamon or Kaus Gammamon aren't enough to take on a hostile Digimon, I go on an all out offensive with Wezen Gammamon. This form gives me strong, metal plating and laser cannons in place of horns, making me as sturdy and damaging as a tank. My final form is one that my friends don't like to bring up though...Gulus Gammamon. When my heart fills with sorrow and pure anger, this form takes over me involuntarily. I become an unstoppable force blinded by bitter hatred, and become a danger to everyone around me...my demeanor sours into villainy, and I lose all respect and compassion for my friends or anyone else. Few things push me to this point, but Bokomon sacrificing himself to save me from one of the murderous knives of Sealsdramon was one of them...in response...I executed him. It's not something I ever knew I was capable of doing...it's a form I hope to never become again.

There's a lot of adventures in store for us, with more Hologram Ghost sightings and odd things occurring all the time from Digimon activity around these parts. I'll be sure to fill you all in on everything as time goes on through this Tumblr blog! I put it together using Hiro's computer while he was asleep because I'm not sure how he'd feel about me having a blog. I've got the itch to write things though, so I couldn't resist making one! Digimon Ghost Game Analyzer, Episode 04: The Doll’s Manor

Happy Halloween!

Okay, I know I’m a bit late to this, but cut me some slack. This was a Halloween episode after all.

So, today’s episode is all about pumpkins. Quite appropriate for the spooky feeling of Digimon Ghost Game. We are at some kind of building decorated for Halloween, with a guy hearing a child-like voice telling him ‘Trick or Treat’. He looks around, but doesn’t see anything. It must be all in his imagination, right?

The tension builds up as we see a pumpkin doll moving and vanishing, and...

Screw you, this legit scared me! Not only does the pumpkin doll attack the guy, it also knocks him out and drags him into a back room, giving me some serious Child’s Play vibes. Brrr...

Anyways, we learn that we’re at Cosmo Culture School, with Ruli and her friends helping out decorating the place for the upcoming Halloween Party, and... Hm, nobody seems to react to Angoramon. I imagine we’ll get an explanation for that later on.

Ruli’s friend notes how they won’t be able to finish decorating the place in time, so Ruli calls Hiro for help. This being Gammamon’s first Halloween, he comments on all the weirdos- I mean, costumes and is excited about the idea of Turkey and Treatment- I mean, Trick and Treating, wanting to get some chocolate.

I just love Gammamon. Still, it’s not a good idea to yell when there are other people around. Hiro quickly gets away from a curious boy who wants to take a closer look at Gammamon and...

Awesome, we get some information about the functions of the DIgivice -V-. Apparently, Ruli had figured out how to make their partners turn invisible, that is, turn them back into Hologram Ghosts. Unfortunately for Hiro, she didn’t tell him how to achieve that. Instead, he is transported to the AR-Field like place.

Well, at least he achieved something. Everyone vanishes, leaving only Hiro and Gammamon, who promptly breaks a chocolate sign. Exasperated, Hiro returns to the Real World, realizing that the chocolate sign is still in-tact. Weird.

So, Hiro and Gammamon then join in helping Ruli out, as well as meeting her friends, who promptly explain why nobody cares that Gammamon and Angoramon are walking around.

Apparently, they decided to just tell everyone that the Digimon are AI Holograms. It’s quite simple and an explanation I can roll with. We then see Ruli telling Hiro what to do, with him just going along.

Let’s just hope that Hiro won’t take the Taiki route of ‘I can’t turn my back to anybody’. We are then directed to the Digivice -V-, with Hiro telling Ruli to keep hers. There is a nice moment between the two, with Ruli warming up to Hiro and insisting on both using their names.

Moving on, Ruli’s friend Nana goes out to grab some LED candles, only to be interrupted by a blackout. We get a really creepy scene that wouldn’t be out of place in a horror movie.

The pumpkin doll attacks Nana and we see her being dragged into the back room. While this is going on, Ruli teaches Hiro how to make their Digimon go invisible. Hiro wishes that he had known it earlier, as he was brought to the guidance councilor who tells him how he’s not allowed to have an AI Hologram and we see the chaos Gammamon had caused.

Poor Hiro, caught in the middle of a battlefield. It turns out how Angoramon was the one who had figured out that the Digivice -V- had such a function, even offering to teach the two more about Digimon. It is actually really nice to have a Digimon partner who can explain some of the stuff about Digimon and the Digital World, although I guess it would’ve also been useful to have an Appmon like Gatchmon around.

So, according to Angoramon, an artificially intelligent computer virus spread online, giving birth to various creatures - Digimon. The world they come from is the Digital World, which also exists alongside the human world. Digimon who pass through gates that randomly appear sometimes get thrown into the Real World. Still, even when that happens, they quickly adapt and enjoy their lives here.

Concerning digivolution, like in Gammamon’s case, Digimon normally take a long period of time to digivolve naturally, calling it growth, and that he never heard of that happening so suddenly. Also, he has no clue what Hokuto’s doing there, but Hiro doesn’t appear to be too concerned.

So, we finally get more information about the Digital World and the Digimon, and it doesn’t sound too different from what the other seasons told us. It appears that this Digital World uses the same kind of connection the Digital World in Digimon Adventure and Digimon Tamers has, except that in Digimon Adventure, it was more difficult for Digimon to cross over, and in Digimon Tamers, most Digimon who would cross over were hostile... Well, the latter would also apply to Digimon Ghost Game, but what I meant that in Digimon Tamers, the Digimon usually wanted to fight rather than to cause mischief or heal people. It also takes cues from Digimon Universe Appli Monsters, where people who weren’t Drivers couldn’t see Appmon and we had the Network co-existing with the Real World and Appmon being able to materialize in a similar manner.

Anways, let’s return back to the story. Ruli’s friends managed to carve out the pumpkins, with Moe trying to find her smartphone to take a picture of them. She spots someone being dragged into the back room. She investigates, finding Cosmo-kun, an AI Hologram and...

Tell me that this doesn’t look like Pumpmon is trying to murder Nana!

They even show the knife and him stabbing into the pumpkin! For a moment, I seriously thought he was trying to gouge her eye out! Too bad for Moe that Pumpmon spots her and she gets cornered by the pumpkin dolls. Seriously, this is something right out of Corpse Party and I’m living for every moment of it. We also learn that Pumpmon is possessing Cosmo-kun, allowing him to wander around and interact with people.

‘‘Will you... be my friend?’’

Uh, no thanks. I’d rather hang out with the other Pumpmon and his buddy Gottsumon. *thinks back to Digimon Adventure* Unfortunately, both were killed by Vamdemon. *sighs in resignation* Okay, where is my pumpkin head?

Next, we see a bunch of pumpkin dolls and Cosmo-kun capturing people all around the building, with Pumpmon gloating how they’re all his friends.

Meanwhile, Hiro, Ruli, Gammamon and Angoramon are alerted to the situation, deciding to find the missing people. Hiro concludes they went missing while alone and Angoramon makes the smart remark that they shouldn’t split up (he would definitely survive in a horror movie), with Hiro then offering himself as a bait. That’s... not a great plan, but they don’t have any other choice. Still, he’s followed by Ruli and the Digimon, so he has some kind of protection. Cosmo-kun is behind them, which is bad, and when we think he’ll target Ruli, he suddenly breaks.

They’re seen by another pumpkin doll and we learn that it’s possessed by a Digimon, Candmon. As they follow it, Ruli realizes they lost Hiro. Meanwhile, Hiro found the back room with all the missing people.

This is really scary and to make things worse, Pumpmon goes after Hiro, slamming a pumpkin on his head, restraining him and almost gouging his eye out.

Yikes, that was close! Seriously, Pumpmon makes Chucky look tame in comparison and I don’t want him to team up with the scissors-wielding Sachiko Shinozaki.

Fortunately, Hiro is found by Ruli, Angoramon and Gammamon, with Gammamon attacking Pumpmon. Once Hiro is free, they quickly run out, followed by Pumpmon and his friends, two Candmon and two Ekakimon, who posed as the pumpkin dolls from earlier.

Gammamon wants to fight, but there’s no way he is a match for Pumpmon, who is an Ultimate. Ruli then reminds them of the captured people, making Hiro realize that they could fight in the AR-Field like environment, where they can fight without damaging the Real World. Ruli is surprised, with Hiro noting how she didn’t know about this, and Ruli replying how he didn’t know about the invisibility mode earlier. Honestly, I really love the little banter between them.

Oh, and we also get our first Analyzer screen, courtesy of Angoramon:

It looks amazing! I really missed having this kind of Analyzer.

Moving on, Pumpmon decides to make everyone his friends and I’m getting the chills after seeing this expression. It’s so creepy. When Hiro questions his motives, he reveals how, when he first arrived in the Real World, he was alone, but once a year, on Halloween, people would happily wear pumpkin heads, making Pumpmon believe they’re his friends as long as they wear his face (Leatherface you are not).

Hiro, Gammamon, Ruli and Angoramon run away and split up, being chased by Candmon and Ekakimon respectively, and I love the action here. After meeting up, Hiro hatches a plan, with Ruli serving as a decoy. The Digimon seemingly corner her inside a room, with Pumpmon using his attack to slam a pumpkin on her head, only to reveal that he knocked out his teammates and that he was tricked, as the person in the room was a statue wearing Ruli’s jacket.

Nice move, Tamers. Pumpmon is furious for being tricked (dude, there is a reason it’s called Trick or Treat, and you’re getting the tricks today) and attacks them again with a huge pumpkin that breaks the roof. Fortunately, Gammamon digivolves again to BetelGammamon, breaking the pumpkin, much to Ruli and Angoramon’s amazement.

Despite this being a Champion versus an Ultimate battle, BetelGammamon’s attack inflicts damage on Pumpmon (it is fire versus a pumpkin, after all) and Hiro stops BetelGammamon from any further fighting. The burnt Pumpmon starts crying about how they’re mean to him.

He still believed that they were people he could be friends with, with Hiro explaining to him that Halloween pumpkins are just decorations and because people wear them, that doesn’t mean they’re his friends. He notes how friendship shouldn’t be forced, which actually is a really good lesson for the audience. You don’t have to look the same or have the same interests to be friends. All you have to do is to have fun together to be friends.

Fortunately, Pumpmon learns his lesson and Hiro agrees to be his friend, which is nice, although I would still be a bit careful around him. For some reason, Pumpmon holding a knife freaks me out more than him using his attack. In any case, we have another happy end, with Pumpmon being happy about having a human friend. Hiro returns everyone back to the Real World, but Pumpmon and his group are nowhere to be seen and Pumpmon’s victims are back to normal. Hiro figures that they would visit them again next year.

All in all, Pumpmon was scary in this episode and I love that they made him a serious threat. It was also great to learn more about the Digimon and Digital World, as well as seeing what kind of functions the Digivice -V- has, and the action was also awesome, if a bit short. All in all, a spooky and entertaining Halloween episode.

Media: Movie Summer Wars

It’s summer time (at least where I’m from), and for today’s Monday Madness comeback after a 2-week break, I want to share/recommend an awesome anime film from 2009 known as Summer Wars. The film earned over 18 million USD in worldwide box offices and won multiple awards in animation. What I really loved about this movie is that it explores traditional Japanese family culture in a modern-day setting filled with technology and high-tech computers. I would recommend seeing the original Japanese version with accurate English subtitles to truly feel the tradition and culture being presented in this movie.

The film is directed by Mamoru Hosoda, who is a well-known film director and animator (for Toei Animation and later on Madhouse). I would like to talk briefly about the animation-style for that Hosoda movies have including this one. His animation may not be most modern and appealing art style to the anime fandom, but it looks beautiful and unique in it’s own way (this can be heavily said in my defense for Pokémon’s Sun & Moon anime series). His most famous works include The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Wolf Children, and The Boy and the Beast. He has also contributed to animating shows such as One Piece, Ojamajo Doremi Dokkān, the OP to Samurai Champloo, and Digimon Adventure. If you’ve seen the original Digimon Adventure prequel short film or Digimon Adventure: Bokura no War Game!, you’ll see a lot of similarities it has with this movie. You could compare the Digital World to the “OZ”. OZ is the popular virtual world connected to the internet in Summer Wars. However, unlike the Digital World in Adventure, society became heavily dependent with OZ’s simulated reality on doing multiple everyday activities.

Anyway animation aside, this film (without giving too much spoilers) about Kenji Koiso, a timid eleventh-grade math genius and OZ master who was invited to go to Ueda (in Nagano Prefecture, Japan) by a twelfth-grade student, Natsuki Shinohara (his crush) for a summer trip to celebrate her great-grandmother's 90th birthday. Unbeknownst to him, this trip requires him to act as her fiancé in front of her whole family clan. However during his stay, he is falsely implicated in the hacking OZ (the virtual world) by a sadistic artificial intelligence named “Love Machine” after decoding a strange message he received on his cell phone. Kenji must repair all the damage he has done, and find a way to stop the rogue computer program from causing any further chaos from his summer home with Natsuki. The characters were very unique and the OZ was colorful feature that the movie had. Coming from a big Asian family myself, Natsuki’s family clan were so relatable. The film does have some sad moments to it, but I’ll just leave it at that. It is definitely a great summer movie that you should watch, and most importantly teaches the value of LOVE and FAMILY.
