Traditional Fairy Tales - still viable? #DiscussionPost #FairyTales
As the grandmother to two young boys, I wondered… Do young parents still read fairy tales to their children? Or, do they think them obsolete? There didn’t seem to be the plethora of children’s books back when I was a child. Fairy Tales were the ‘norm’ for bedtime stories. Some parents think that traditional fairy tales are not suitable for young children. They are too ‘scary’. Do you agree? I’m…

Silence Needed for the Craziness of Our Lives
Renewal is a combination of inspiration and restoration. It is finding little things in life and simplifying the craziness and business into sitting in my car in a parking lot listening to music while it rains. Taking a step back from our routines and changing things that are drawing us and replacing them with things that fill us up. Renewing our minds is a continual change of noticing that as much as it hurts sometimes we need to shut down the doors to certain activities or people who are bringing us down, so that we can welcome and have the space needed for new and better ones. In order for God to renew our minds we need to set up our eyes on him and surrender to him and He gives us that redirection thoughts. God gives us the confidence of moving forward with our minds renewed. Art in church should be used to glorify God, functioning as a spiral that always comes back to sharing love, and with that sharing God because God is the definition of love. God renews our minds, but it does not stop there, He renews us physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually and in friendships.
Simplicity takes bravery, putting aside our day to day life and noticing the little things that make the difference between the craziness and messiness into clear thoughts that give us the ability to try to go back and reorganize our messes. There is a finite time and energy in a day, but it is all about intentionally and where we spend all of that energy. Doing one task at the time, being present in the moment and putting all your focus into one thing is a reminder that we all need everyday, because it is something that we constantly need to keep practicing.
Community, home is where they challenge you, but in that they offer to support you through those changes. Being brave and loving enough to get people to push people to be a better version of yourself, but also appreciate where you are now. Home is where God is, because He is the only one who can truly understand ourselves.
Habitat, get rid of things you do not need and invest in those that help you and bring you joy. How we set up our space matters and having a sense of identity and senses that trigger different times in our days.

Week 11 Discussion post
Regarding the reading from Emerge I really enjoyed it. It was nice to read things that weren't so staunchly art related. The reading was really insightful discussing simplicity and how to take stress out of your life, something that everyone needs nowadays the ideas given to take time out of your day and count the things important to your day or your work flow was really great to read. Understanding the later readings felt very easy to read particularly habitat I really enjoyed I personally have spent a lot of time looking at my work space and seeing how I can make it my own and healthy for good work flow but the important thing was not to exhaust resources or over spend to achieve that goal.

Should a Christian working as an artist feel any more responsibility to make the gospel known than a plumber or politician? Why or why not?
I think that a Christian working as an artist should feel more push to share the Gospel than say a plumber or a politician through their work, but an equal push in their conversations and other things. Everyone consumes art on one level or another and we sometimes like to create labels of christian art versus secular art, but one thing I think is important is to just create art and publish it in the secular art realm, even if it has to do with God. If Christians only worry about producing art for each other and never publish it or display it for non-believers, they are missing a whole group of people that may otherwise be unreached. One big example of Christians doing this is in music with artists like Daugtry and NF who both make and release songs for the secular world, but still have deeper meaning behind them. It opens doors to conversations between Christians and non-believers, where the Christian can guide the other towards God. However, on the other hand, it is important for Christians to at least look at and consume on some level secular art. If Christians never look at what their counterparts (the people they want to bring to God), look at, it may be hard to relate to them. Overall, each person has a different gift that plays a role in how they share the Gospel, but we are all called to do it. Artists may have an easier time doing it, but we should all strive to share the Gospel no matter where God has placed us.
