the wind is gentle against your face when you leave the coffee shop, and you wrap your scarf a little tighter around your neck. jongseob pulls you aside, not to block the entrance, and dives into his bag to look for headphones. you hold his drink and take a small sip.
the vanilla flavor explodes on your tongue and you just grin, taking another sip of the sweet beverage. maybe he won’t notice–
“it’s a bit too sweet, to be honest. do you want to finish it?” he asks and you realize he’s been watching you, gaze amused from behind his glasses. the red oval frames cutely frame his face, almost distracting from the fact that you just got caught.
“no, you can have it” you sigh and trade. he hands you one earphone, you give him the drink back. (it wasn’t too sweet, really. jongseob just said that so you could finish it without feeling guilty). you accept the earphone and put it in your left ear, grabbing his hand.
“do you want to watch something once we get back?” he asks softly before putting on one of his rap playlists. you pucker your lips in thought and miss the way he smiles fondly at the sight.
“maybe… i still have to finish that one kdrama my friend recommended but i don’t really feel like it’ you say and start your journey back to the dorm.
the music isn’t playing too loud - despite the energetic tune and some… unusual lyrics, it serves as a background to your conversation. jongseob intertwines fingers with yours, seeking a little more warmth on the chilly day.
“maybe we can rewatch the maze runner…?” he offers and you just scoff. your boyfriend takes another sip of his vanilla cappuccino and hides a smile behind the cup.
“again?” you laugh at the ridiculosity. “i’d rather watch… oh, i know! i know!”
jongseob halts, the impact almost making you trip.
“let’s watch old harmony adventure eps! please, please, please…! they are so funny… well, you are but…” you stop and trace where his gaze is.
a cat.
“wait, i want to take a picture” he hums and looks for his phone. the moment it’s in his hand, it almost gets yanked from the impact of you kneeling down. and the plugged earphone–
jongseob manages to catch it and lets out a sigh of relief, your earphone dangling in the air. he started taking pictures of the brown colored feline hiding in the bushes.
“how did you even notice it?” you ask, gently tapping your nails against the concrete to lure the cat.
“i just have a cat radar” he smirks and squats next to you, joining in your scheme.
the cat’s big green eyes track your movements. jongseob looks around and notices a bin.
“i’m just gonna finish it and throw it out” he says and drinks the coffee, doing as he said.
meanwhile you successfully lure the cat, the feline approaching you carefully. it sniffs your hand, soft nose poking your skin. jongseob observes with a proud smile.
the cat plops on its back, showing its white belly to you.
with a loud whine, you start to pat its belly.
“seob, oh my god!” you mumble, pout forming on your lips. the fur is soft beneath your palm and your boyfriend joins you again, his hand petting the cat’s head.
“do you think we can steal it?” he asks, hopeful sparkle in his eye.
you bite your lip, looking at him.
“i’m really gullible, you should stop making offers like that” you laugh and he just snickers, hand moving to pat its belly too. your fingers occasionally bump into each other, the cat’s loud purring making you chuckle.
“no, really, what’s stopping us…?” your boyfriend mumbles to himself, adoring the pet’s happy face.
“jongseob!” you whine, moving to scratch the cat’s chin. it stretches a bit, throwing its head back to give you better access to its chin and neck. “just like you…”
“i don’t purr” he grunts “and i am not a cat”
“mhm…” you decide to ignore his meows of protest “also, i think this cat isn’t a stray. it’s a little too friendly. and it’s cute underbelly tells me its being fed good at home”
“eh, you’re right” jongseob grunts and pats the white belly for the last time “let’s keep going then. before it’s too late”
“too late for what?” you ask, tilting your head. he just opens his bag widely, pretending as if he’s going to swoop the cat in.
the street fills with your laughters and the cat stands up, startled. jongseob helps you stand up and dusts off your knees while you wave at the cat.
“bye, kitty” you hum and grab your boyfriend’s hand again. and as you try to persuade him into watching harmony adventure, he keeps wondering when did you manage to change the playlist.
once back at home, happily watching the content you wanted, jongseob is laying on your lap. his red glasses messily thrown on the nightstand, face buried in the warmth of the duvet covering your legs.
you sneak your hand into his hair, massaging his scalp gently. one second he’s laughing at a joke he made, the other he’s groaning softly.
“that feels nice…” he mewls, nuzzling his head.
“yeah?” you ask with a grin. his limbs stretch a little and jongseob lets out a sigh of relief.
“m’yeah. keep doing that, please… oh, oh, here” he purrs in delight.
“not a cat, you say” you whisper quietly, not wanting him to hear. he doesn’t, luckily - and you decide to tease him about it later. something along the lines of ‘who needs a cat when i have you’.

She tells me put on sunglasses, sit on the couch, stroke it slow till the key turns in the lock.
"Don’t stop when I walk in." That’s her rule.
She says wait for her in the shower but don’t speak. Stand behind her, silent, like steam is a sin and I’m freezing for it.

She tells me peek in on her when she pees. She doesn’t want privacy. She wants witness. An audience for the everyday holy.
She says "move your hands." Calls my dick her vibrator. Takes what she wants, like she bought me with pocket lint and lip gloss.
And when she says "choke me when I come," she means it. She bites the word harder than my fingers press her throat.
She makes me smell her underwear like it’s evidence. Like I owe her rent and the payment is pussy scent. Sometimes she shoves it in my face like she’s mad I didn’t beg first.
And yeah— I get hard. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t already addicted to the way she wants to see herself on my breath.
She says “when I want cream, I’ll take it.”
And she does. Strokes me until I’m hollow. Swallows like a queen signing the end of a battle. Pushes me back like I was never the weapon— just the ritual.
She calls me creep.
And I’m cool with it.
But the other day, she curled into my arms and cried when she said she loved me.
Said she prayed I never leave her life.
One day I’ll tell her I prayed for the same thing.

It Was Worth It, Every Bit Of It
One of my dearest cousins was getting married. After missing out on many many occasions as such, I had my mind made up. I was not going to sit this one out. Also, I cannot in a sane state of mind not attend one of the most important days of her life. So, at the first chance, the plans were made, the tickets were booked and right about then the excitement reached a feverish pitch where it remained till the date we travelled. The little one was excited about seeing the grandparents, but more importantly, she was excited about sitting in her little chair and watching the big tv all day long. The wife was excited about the fact that there was a wedding and therefore opportunities to dress up the traditional way. Both of them made a couple of trips while I opted not to. For me, it was the first time since my wedding more than half a decade ago, and the only thing I was excited about was the wedding.
I am not ashamed to say that I was not excited about anything surrounding the occasion. The long flights where the ever shirking leg space seems to have been designed for people shorter than four whole feet weren’t particularly enticing. Neither was the idea of walking out in the dirt and grime every single day I would be there. And particularly unappealing was the idea of falling sick on the second day of the stay. I was really not looking forward to any of that, and I told as much to anyone who asked. However, there was one thing that I was subconsciously looking forward to.
I was going to meet and spend some genuinely good time with some of my close cousins. The kids I grew up with, the boys of the family, the spoiled brats who could all talk about the quirks of the family without holding reservations, the brothers in arms, the partners in crime and all the other cliches that you can think of. These are the boys from whom I have very few secrets to keep. They know all the weird and awkward stories of my insignificant life. So much so that we all laugh at those together and frequently. We take this part of any family gathering for granted, but it was going to be a great reminder that the camaraderie among brothers is replaced by very few other relationships if at all.
Like every occasion that brings a large part of a family together, there was an evening that we managed to sneak in among all the madness that is an Indian wedding. Therein involved a lot of talking, lot of reminiscing in great detail, some Gyan, some solving of problems that were of immense importance for people inside the circle whereas the people outside remained oblivious, and there was some adult beverage involved -- if such detail is important to you that is. The evening started late and ended even later. Needless to say, the evening was one a kind that allowed me to forget all the drudgery of daily life and let me teleport to a time that preceded it. It was an interesting time indeed. We were able to suddenly recall all the minutia of the amusing events through the years. Probably because knowingly or unknowingly, those details never left the active memory space.
Interestingly enough, given the age group I am talking about, not everyone involved was super active on social media. It is fair to say then that we were not entirely up-to-date with all the happenings during the past few years. So, we had some catching up to do. However, that is not the interesting part. The interesting part is that every one of those stories started with: remember so and so person or such and such event, and with every one of those didn’t we only remember like those happened yesterday even if some were from our childhood, but with the slightest hint we also knew exactly where the story was going. It was like we had developed our own secret language that only we understood. What I am eluding to is that this level of synchronicity is the living breathing nucleus that kept us in touch with each other with an unobservable force.
The word camaraderie describes a nebulous concept which for some unknown reason depends on spending a lot of time together. As questioning everything has been a frequent theme on this blog, allow me to keep with the theme. Allow me to question if spending a lot of time together is a non-negotiable requirement. Even if two people don’t spend a lot of time together, do they ever lose touch? When their lives are so intertwined that one knows if the other spits, is there any real effort involved in staying in lockstep with each other without a hint of communication for a while? As I have seen it happen, I think not. And, oh, by the way, all the trouble I talked about, totally worth it. Every bit of it, just for that one evening. The wedding was like the cherry on top.
Read the other part of this Duolog(ue).
'Remember When?' Over Chai
Nibbling at a Ferrero Rocher at 2 AM, wide awake and thinking about the speed with which the past ten days went by is how jet lag feels like. We made a shorter than short trip to India to attend a wedding and the handful of days we were there were quite eventful, literally, and a little too much travelling if you ask me.

Sten Hugo Hiller - 627184: Pre-war interview with Robert C Goetz (#172656)
(By Sten Hugo Hiller - 627184) Pre-war interview with Robert C Goetz (#172656)
As the date of the war drew closer, my various formations were put through the paces. While the overall performance was tolerably well, there were some glitches and rough spots that had better be taken care of. Case in point. My current scout spotted another formation, and called out "Unknown formation sighted. Probably pirates, engaging"
Before I could get into sensor range, the fight was in full swing, and we were loosing badly. When I got the readings I cursed violently, and called out. "This is Bungler actual. All Bungler elements, break off action. Do not, I repeat, do not fire another shot even if they keep firing." On another channel. "Robert, sorry, my crew need to spend some serious time in signal recognition, we are breaking off and standing down."
After both sides had stopped firing I got out of the mech and went over to Robert to try patching up. He was all smiles, "Ah, my boys needed an exercise, and getting a surprise attack like that will teach them to keep on their toes"
We sat down and had a chat about this and that, among other topics the upcoming war:
Sten Hugo Hiller. So how do you think this war will turn out for the AFF. You do have several clans in the war, but can they rise to the top?
Robert C Goetz. To be frank. I think we're outgunned in most divisions... Some movements in clans in divisions hit us just wrong. For example both Collectors and Rangers got bumped down from D3 to D4. Either of them would have won D4 or D3 since best clans in that range. BlackWatch got bumped down to D5...so easy pickins for them...both the Rangers and or Collectors would have enjoyed facing them instead of each other , also makes D3 open now with both of us gone. Now look down few divisions, now here's a fight to watch Revenge vs Diamond DRagons. I'd give edge to Diamond Dragons normally, but they have no specialist so I have to say Revenge has the edge. Look down little further. Disciples are in the same division as Ronins and Renagedes. we have all solid clans. So it will be fun. Look down further. Hecklers they are in a very competitive division,so over all, we should fight for gold in several divisions, but how many will we win? Only time will tell.
Sten Hugo Hiller. An straightforward and honest answer. So do you think the high number of specialists will influence the outcome of many Battles and the end result in the divisions?
Robert C Goetz. Yes. Div 1 is a perfect example. Warlock vs Magnificent7...Warlocks went with 9 members. while Magnificent-7 with 7 and since they have more of the top 10 specialist in the division they should win the Gold. Then go to D2. The Bunnies went with 7 10T specialist, other clans will have to beat all the others and couple of them to beat them, should be fun to watch… And the same goes in other divisions. like I said look at DD vs Revenge no specialist vs 5 specialist...could be the difference maker there..others same way..but not going to run through all clans and divisions here...lol
Sten Hugo Hiller. So, in your mind, is this an improvement over the 2-4 specialists we have normally, letting the weaker clans fight more on their terms, or is it a bad move?
Robert C Goetz. Well don't know that i'd say having 7 specialist being weaker players... I mean sure guess if all the same..like 10t...but I like the 5 for 7 members better myself... But honestly would like clan sizes to increase to at least 8, but prefer maybe 10, and as for divisions.. That's another issue, I would rather see more 4 clan divisions. All these 8 clan divisions cause huge level gaps from top clans average to bottom clans... I know the aurguement that less clans means less silvers and bronze..more wood..but also more golds...but like I said it's about the average gaps from top to bottom of divisions for me
Sten Hugo Hiller. Some have suggested forced specialists. We have had some before, like all clans had to have one specialist of on type (for instance 20 tons) Does this sound like a good idea to you?
Robert C Goetz. Yes. I'd like to see a more varied Specialist for sure. Say you can have up to 5 but 3 must be 10t-20t-30t for example... Or it could be rainbows, or whatever, just have 2-3 that are a must. Rotate each month so people will have to keep a variety of specialist updated, or miss out on those possible points.
Sten Hugo Hiller. Sounds like a workable option, and will as you say force clans to get those formations or forfait lots of wins. There is a rumor going that we might have a Chaos war later in59. I know you cant speak for all Your members, but are they ready and eager for another war, or are they mostly going to sit it out?
Robert C Goetz. We will fight..as always. Might be few not up for another war if close to this one, since so many close together causes a dedication from the guys that normally do only wars, and once a month is what they like. But I hope if another chaos war happens then we can pick teams like draft, not just thrown together... Too many inactive or not really ready for prime time players thrown into what could have been decent clans and fights. For this to work would need longer lead time, so say sign ups for those wanting to do it starts soon, then after cut off time divisions set, players in those divisions vote for leaders, then leaders select their members...So say get 8 hr window, then next leader picks, if you miss selection then a selection is auto made, then so on till all members in division set. The selection process would take several days is why i said start process before the next war so could be the 2nd war of the month type situation.
Sten Hugo Hiller. Sounds like it could work, -if it get implemented. Of the details many complain about are the prizes from the war, and the raids (Number of Mechs to beat, Hardness of walls and Payooffs) As you have participated in most wars so far, what is your impression? Have the prizes become better or worse over the years?
Robert C Goetz. Many things about raids seem crazy. The # of mechas should be adjusted, there should be enough for all members to get a full share plus extra for over runs, and the %'s should also increase, and honestly none above D10 needs those crystal prizes... As far as the toughness...yes some seem stupid tough others can just blow through waves only slowing to refill energy...I know some of the lower division clans complain they hit waves that take them nearly 1 day to kill them..hours and hours of 0's and 1's looks like binary code or something...I mean no one minds a challenge, but also many can't sit in front of a pc screen 24/7 trying to get a share hitting their heads against the walls. Many changes over the yrs have improved, so for those changes I appreciate it. But still needs tweaking.
Sten Hugo Hiller. Well, thank you for your time and your Insights. Best luck to you and yours in the war.
Robert C Goetz. Thank you for your time and efforts as well...Good luck in war as well.

Trump to Deploy 5,200 Troops to Southern Border
The U.S. navy will deploy 5,200 troops to the southwest border over a number of weeks as a big caravan of migrants strikes by means of Mexico, a dramatic improve at a time when unlawful immigration is a central situation in midterm elections subsequent week.
The motion is the most important of active-duty U.S. troops because the response to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, former officers stated, when hundreds arrived inside days. It’s a main escalation of the U.S. response on the border, which as just lately as final week was deliberate for 800 troops. With 2,000 Nationwide Guard members already in place, it can exceed the mixed U.S. navy footprint in Iraq and Syria.
“Our first stage of effort shall be to harden the factors of entry and handle key gaps in areas across the factors of entry,” stated Air Pressure Gen. Terrence J. O’Shaughnessy, commander of the U.S. Northern Command, which is accountable for the continental U.S.
With the steadiness of energy in Congress up for grabs subsequent Tuesday, President Trump has seized on the migrant caravan to rally his Republican supporters. Shut U.S. Senate or Home elections are being fought within the border states of Arizona, California and Texas.
“That is an invasion of our Nation and our Navy is ready for you!” Mr. Trump wrote Monday morning on Twitter, with out straight mentioning troop numbers.
Critics of the president declare the usage of active-duty troops is a political gambit and that the home deployment will degrade navy readiness for protection overseas.
“When Donald Trump deploys troops for a nonexistent menace, which means troops usually are not coaching or making ready for the fights that could possibly be on the horizon, for professional threats,” stated Will Fischer, director of presidency relations for VoteVets, a pro-Democratic advocacy group. “This can be a marketing campaign ploy.”
The president repeated on Monday his earlier assertion that gang members and criminals had been hiding among the many migrants, and final week he stated “unknown Center Easterners are blended in.” The White Home has supplied no proof that such individuals are within the caravan, however different U.S. officers have cited previous arrests of alleged criminals made on the border.
Many individuals within the caravan have stated they’re fleeing violence, poverty and political instability at residence. Their numbers grew rapidly after native media, social activists and leftist opposition politicians drew consideration to the march.
A gaggle of greater than four,000 migrants on foot is about 900 miles from the U.S. in southern Mexico, whereas one other group of about three,000 stay on the Guatemala-Mexico border, hoping to hitch the lead group, stated CBP Commissioner Kevin McAleenan.
On Sunday, a 26-year-old Honduran man died in a violent conflict with Mexican and Guatemalan authorities because the second group of migrants sought to cross that border.
Along with duties at locations of entry, the troops are anticipated to help border officers in duties resembling erecting tents, offering medical assist, transporting border officers through helicopter and staffing command and management facilities, Gen. O’Shaughnessy stated at a briefing on the Division of Homeland Safety in Washington. The Pentagon has dubbed the mission Operation Devoted Patriot. “We’ll be capable to spot and determine teams [of migrants] and quickly deploy [Customs and Border Protection] personnel the place they’re wanted,” he stated.
The troops aren’t anticipated to implement U.S. immigration legislation, officers have stated.
Beneath the brand new plans, about 1,800 troops will go to Texas, 1,700 to Arizona and 1,500 to California. The troops shall be drawn from about 10 U.S. Military installations and consist largely of navy police and engineers, officers stated. U.S. Marines additionally shall be deployed, officers stated. A number of the personnel shall be housed at close by bases.

About 800 deployed on Monday, Gen. O’Shaughnessy stated. The mission is predicted to final till mid-December, the Pentagon has stated.
The closest stretch of the U.S. southern border to the caravan is within the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas, the busiest U.S. spot for unlawful border crossings.
It’s unknown the place the migrants may attempt to cross. On the price the caravan goes, it could take a number of weeks to achieve Texas. The California border would add a minimum of one other 10 days of strolling.
Officers stated that troops are being deployed now within the unlikely occasion that extra of the migrants hitch rides in automobiles or on a prepare to achieve the border quicker than their present strolling tempo.
Throughout earlier border operations underneath Presidents George W. Bush and Obama, many troops carried out assist roles from afar, an administration official stated. In 2007, about 6,000 Nationwide Guardsmen had been deployed to 4 border states throughout Operation Leap Begin, additionally aimed toward bolstering immigration enforcement, however solely about three,500 had been within the discipline, the official stated.
Officers stated they didn’t have a value estimate for the newest deployment. The 2007 operation and one in 2010 that despatched active-duty troops and Nationwide Guard members to the border value a mixed $1.35 billion, based on a 2011 report by the Authorities Accountability Workplace and Protection Division.
Mr. McAleenan has stated his company is updating longstanding plans to cope with a mass migration scenario, together with attainable non permanent holding and processing amenities.
Earlier this yr, officers from the Division of Homeland Safety, together with Mr. McAleenan and Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, publicly inspired would-be asylum seekers to ask for refuge at factors of entry, saying that was the one authorized strategy to apply for asylum on the border. Crossing the border illegally is a federal misdemeanor.
Talking alongside Gen. O’Shaughnessy on Monday, Mr. McAleenan stated: “We gained’t enable a big group to enter the U.S. unlawfully.”
Since spring, foreigners have routinely needed to wait days or even weeks to cross the border at entry factors and search asylum from San Diego to Brownsville, Texas, forcing them to remain in shelters in Mexico.
Practically 2,000 folks have filed for asylum in Mexico, based on Mexican Inside Minister Alfonso Navarrete, and Mexico has supplied to let caravan members get hold of work permits and have kids enrolled in native colleges. “The caravan has been supplied protections in Mexico,” Mr. McAleenan stated. “You gained’t be allowed to enter the U.S. the identical manner.”
The GAO’s 2011 report on earlier deployments discovered that shifting troops to the border offered plenty of challenges, together with difficulties integrating Nationwide Guard troops into Homeland Safety operations.
Protection Division officers “expressed issues in regards to the absence of a complete technique for southwest border safety and the ensuing challenges to determine and plan a [Defense Department] position,” the report stated.

Not Getting Replies to Your Health Issues
To Those Who Still Do not Have All the Answers for Their Health Issues
chronic disease getting a diagnosis.
Some may think this sounds…odd. Why would a diagnosis be considered a good thing? How is receiving a diagnosis at all relieving? Isn’t it terrible to know you get a incurable disorder?
No , and yes at precisely the same time.
Let me clarify: years pass from feeling ill with doctors appointments, blood work with no replies and negative effects. It becomes exhausting. Trying and linking. Viewing this doctor and physician. Taking supplements or different medications. Obtaining test after test done. And still, despite all these efforts and time attempting to work out this puzzle, you feel as though you are no closer to replies as possible when you began your quest.
Thus when a physician comes together that finds that this puzzle piece that is missing, it’s a huge relief. It feels as though a giant weight has been raised. Since, yes, you have a chronic illness which waxes and wanes over time, however, at least you know what is wrong. At least it’s possible to take care of the disease to assist your symptoms. At least now you can have that peace of mind knowing that you are not “crazy” or making the whole thing up! Which is a huge fear of mine.
Nonetheless, it’s never that easy. Once 1 doctor figures out it, another physician thinks they have the responses and the other physician isn’t right. The doctors suspect you have that this disease, but the results are back negative. You feel as though you are back to square one.
I felt a huge relief. The unknown of those six months I waited in my muscle contractions were weighing me every instant of every day. Until that day once I discovered the phrases…”We all know why you’re feeling like this, and we can treat it so you begin to feel better.” It was music to my ears! I had a concrete answer and all I went through.
If the treatment methods suggested don’t work, but what happens? You obtain another opinion. What occurs when this opinion questions that the doctor’s diagnosis? OK, you undergo their evaluations. What happens if outcomes conflict, and now, you are no longer positive if the major diagnosis you’ve had for a year is the right one? When the doctors disagree, what happens? What now?
It is a dreadful feeling. It is a dreadful feeling to be to be in the unknown. Particularly after you think you have all the replies! And if you are in this circumstance, I am quite sorry. I know how awful it feels. But do take some comfort in the fact that you are not alone in this stage. In actuality, I think it is common for chronic illness musicians to undergo this during some point of their journey.
This is where we must practice patience. We need to practice approval. We know, and need to focus on being at the here and now all replies come in good time, and at the right time. We’re keen to have all the replies. We’re tired of combating with our health daily and fighting this battle. But if we keep holding on, our responses will come.
Do not stop trying. We can get through this. We can overcome this. Do not underestimate the ability of this disease community; it’s given me strength and hope once I needed it the most. Surviving on Cornstarch: My Life With Glycogen Storage Disease
once in approximately every 100,000 births. This disease is hereditary and due to both the mother and father passing along this mutated gene. They don’t have to have  this disorder. When they were to get a child, there’s a person in four chance the   child will have the disease.
The major use of a individual’s liver is to make and store gas from the carbs they consume, such as rice and potatoes. Travels were produced by some of the glucose into the bloodstream and the remainder into the body where it’s used for energy.
The liver of a person with GSD type 1 doesn’t execute this function. We’re overlooking the receptor that allows this process to take place.
The deficiency  impairs the ability of the liver to produce glucose that is free from glycogen. Since these are both main metabolic processes where the liver provides glucose to the rest of the body during fasting, it causes severe and results in a rise of glycogen in the liver or kidneys leading to enlargement of both.
Frequent feedings of other or cornstarch carbs is the most important treatment. I must take daily to 80 grams of cornflour. I’ve not ever had a complete night’s sleep. Cornstarch contains the maximum amount of carbs (one tablespoon contains nine grams of carbs) and when taken raw it’s difficult for your body to digest, therefore giving me slow discharges of energy.
I go through approximately eight boxes of cornflour weekly and above my life time I’ve consumed roughly 1328 kilograms (~2928 lbs) of this. It is estimated to be about 17 bathtubs to visualize this! How can anyone take this illness seriously when our medicine is a gravy thickener?
The danger of not accepting cornstarch is hypoglycemia. It is the one which is quite damaging and the central issue. Any seizure can lead to severe brain damage or , even worse, death. Possessing chronic low blood sugar may allow you to  create tumors in your liver called adenomas, generally getting cancerous if not addressed fast enough.
Having GSD comes with other problems like growth failure, joint problems (gout), kidney problems, pancreatitis, bowel problems, a higher disease risk and blood clotting problems.
Without treatment, growth failure is typical due to chronically low glucose levels. Moderate malabsorption can be caused by involvement. I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at age 16 due to battle and the with  each the above too.
Neutropenia is a manifestation of the disorder. I have a very low white blood cell count and even though I’m on daily injections to boost my immune system that I still pick up infections and viruses easy. Without sufficient metabolic treatment, patients with GSD type 1 have not made it into maturity, and up till 1971 this disorder was completely deadly.
People who live can be stunted in growth and delayed in puberty because of low glucose levels.
I am now on my hospital admission. I’ve been living here in the clinic for 3 months and I am currently awaiting a liver to save my life.
We need to increase financing and awareness!
Doctors in college don’t get educated about GSD; it receives a mention in death, in the best. Here in New Zealand nothing has been released by any one about the illness and I wish to change that! I wish to raise money to assist their teams and doctors.
I am hoping to write and publish a novel on living with GSD. Every little bit helps. If I could walk right into a hospital and also have the physician or nurse already be aware of my illness, it would blow me away.
I would not wish this illness.
As it’s made me who I am now however I would not alter a thing.

The Mental and Emotional Side Effects of Bipolar Disorder
chronic illness isalso, obviously, the bodily aspect and what effect these kinds of illnesses have on our mobility and the other various bodily symptoms that include the territory. However, what most people today forget about is that the mental component of disease that is chronic. Yes, the bodily effects are tough, but occasionally you might be amazed to know that the mental effects may be equally as bad, if not worse. On the website, I talk about this aspect of sickness and provide some tips to help make it manageable, now!
Chronic illness is not just about the physical hardships that a person can encounter, but also the mental and psychological strains of them too. Actually, research indicates that is a great deal more prevalent in those fighting  with chronic/serious diseases than the general population.
Chronic illness’ unpredictability makes it difficult to live with. Why? Since you don’t know when you might need to change/cancel your plans — whether it be going out with some friends, completing that to-do list or perhaps just a chill day in  the home with your spouse. When you’re always up and down, capable and unable to accomplish things, it can be tough to be pleased all the time. I mean, in case youneed to cancel out something from your control and’re actually excited about some plans, you’d be pretty miffed too, wouldn’t you? It makes it all the worse, when this is a regular phenomenon. The disappointed, the guilt of having to inform friends/partner/family you can not make it, the annoyance this happened for the fourth time in a row… It all adds up.
Chronic illness is often accompanied by changes in life and at times it may even alter the independence of the individual. This can create when you’re heading from the home. Constant queries ensue. Today, can I get a seat on the train, or will I must stand for an hour? How active is it possible to be? Will I have pushed and pushed? How long am I will have the ability to walk around before I burn out? You have the picture. The planning that has to enter everything when you have a serious health condition becomes frustrating and will suck the fun.
If pain is involved by the health condition of one, and they live with a constant pain level daily, it can definitely take its toll. Let us have a flu or cold for instance, since most folks encounter these on a frequent basis (you’re very fortunate if you don’t). Most individuals are miserable the whole time they’re experiencing the symptoms due to the fact that they prevent them from doing what that they love and generally just beats down you… Could you imagine living with a cold or flu daily?
Most importantly, you feel a particular reduction of also the capability to do and also the person that you was. Obviously, doing makes us more happy, but then it makes us sad, since they take too much from it if you can not do them.
So, how do you attempt to overcome these?
Partake in a self-care pattern — it’s something I will post about to come and you will discover some tips on this here.
Discover hobbies you can take part in and love — illustrations include crafts, reading, photographs or even watching movies you love.
Communities — there are lots of online communities, whether it be generally on Twitter, Facebook or internet. The amount of support you’ll be able to gain from these is massive and everyone there understands.
Just conduct you — don’t fret about what other men and women say. Should they love you enough, then they will know!
Which are your hobbies? Let me know in the comments and, naturally, don’t forget to talk about!

In all places we go we’re surrounded by the story of the Earth. We hardly ever take into consideration the candy-stripped rocks or the bizarre outcrop within the woods that appears like a face or if the bottom we stroll on day-after-day was the ground of an historical sea. There are clues are throughout us that trace of volcanos lengthy gone, faults that push and pull the rocks, waterways that grind out shapes and valleys and upheavals that occurred lengthy earlier than people got here down from the bushes. Each single hill, valley, rock and lake you see has a blueprint for the way it received that approach. There may be a lot to the Earth’s historical past written in rocks, this information barely scrapes the floor. It solely gives a primary primer… an outline to naming and understanding all of the totally different rock formations we stay in and round day-after-day.
Batholith
A batholith is a big mass of igneous intrusive rock that varieties from cooled magma deep within the Earth’s crust. Batholiths are virtually at all times made principally of felsic, granite, quartz monzonite, or diorite. They’re composed of a number of lots, or plutons, huge our bodies (image a balloon form) of igneous rock of irregular dimensions that may be advised aside from close by igneous rock by a combo of age and composition.
Your complete Sierra Nevada vary in California is {a partially} submerged batholith — you may see it uncovered in locations like Half Dome, pictured above.
Mesa
Mesas type from the weathering and erosion of horizontally layered rocks which have been uplifted by tectonic exercise. Variations within the skill of several types of rock to withstand weathering and erosion trigger the weaker kinds of rocks to be eroded away, leaving the extra resistant kinds of rocks larger than their environment.
Lava flows and sills, particularly, are very proof against weathering and erosion, and infrequently type the flat prime, or caprock, of a mesa. The much less resistant rock layers are primarily made up of shale, a softer rock that weathers and erodes extra simply.
U-Formed Valley
These valleys are fashioned by the method of glaciation. They’ve a attribute U form, with steep, straight sides and a flat backside. Glaciated valleys are fashioned when a glacier travels throughout and down a slope, carving out the valley by the motion of scouring.
When the ice recedes or thaws, the valley stays, typically plagued by small boulders that had been transported throughout the ice.
Folds
There are a lot of kinds of folds. A fold happens when one or a stack of initially flat and planar layers, akin to sedimentary strata, are bent or curved on account of everlasting deformation. That is typically attributable to the motion of tectonic plates in opposition to one another in addition to intense metamorphic pressures. These folds range in dimension from microscopic crinkles to mountain-sized and so they happen singly as remoted folds and in in depth fold trains of various sizes, on quite a lot of scales.
It’s tremendous cool to have a look at the folds pictured above and remind your self that every of these layers was initially flat floor.
Anticline: linear, strata usually dip away from axial heart, oldest strata in heart.
Syncline: linear, strata usually dip towards axial heart, youngest strata in heart.
Antiform: linear, strata dip away from axial heart, age unknown, or inverted.
Synform: linear, strata dip towards axial centre, age unknown, or inverted.
Dome: nonlinear, strata dip away from heart in all instructions, oldest strata in heart.
Basin: nonlinear, strata dip towards heart in all instructions, youngest strata in heart.
Monocline: linear, strata dip in a single route between horizontal layers on either side.
Chevron: angular fold with straight limbs and small hinges
Recumbent: linear, fold axial airplane oriented at low angle leading to overturned strata in a single limb of the fold.
Droop: usually monoclinal, results of differential compaction or dissolution throughout sedimentation and lithification.
Ptygmatic: Folds are chaotic, random and disconnected. Typical of sedimentary droop folding, migmatites and decollement detachment zones.
Parasitic: brief wavelength folds fashioned inside a bigger wavelength fold construction – usually related to variations in mattress thickness.
Disharmonic: Folds in adjoining layers with totally different wavelengths and shapes.
Laccolith
A laccolith is a sheet intrusion that has been injected between two layers of sedimentary rock. The stress of the magma is excessive sufficient that the overlying strata are compelled upward, giving the laccolith a dome or mushroom-like type with a typically flat base.
The floor rock above laccoliths typically erodes away utterly, leaving the core mound of igneous rock.
Volcanic Plug
A volcanic plug (additionally known as a volcanic neck or lava neck) is a volcanic object created when magma hardens inside a vent on an energetic volcano. When current, a plug may cause an excessive build-up of stress if rising volatile-charged magma is trapped beneath it, and this could typically result in an explosive eruption.
Glacial erosion can result in publicity of the plug on one facet, whereas a protracted slope of fabric stays on the other facet. Such landforms are known as crag and tail. If a plug is preserved (as you may see within the picture above), erosion could take away the encircling rock whereas the erosion-resistant plug stays, producing a particular upstanding landform.
Scarp
There are typically two methods to get a scarp: by erosion of sedimentary rocks, or by vertical motion of the Earth’s crust alongside a geologic fault. At its most simple, an escarpment is a transition from one sequence of sedimentary rocks to a different sequence of a unique age and composition.
Escarpments are additionally regularly fashioned by faults. When a fault displaces the bottom floor in order that one facet is larger than the opposite, a fault scarp is created. This could happen in dip-slip faults, or when a strike-slip fault brings a bit of excessive floor adjoining to an space of decrease floor.
Dike
A dike is a sheet of rock that fashioned inside a fracture in a pre-existing rock physique. (That is not like when the brand new rock varieties inside and parallel to the bedding of a layers rock, the place it’s known as a sill.) It’s a kind of intrusion, that both cuts throughout layers, or into a layer or unlayered mass of rock.
Dikes will be both intrusive or sedimentary in origin. For instance, when molten rock intrudes right into a crack then crystallizes, it’s an igneous dike. When sediment fills a pre-existing crack, it’s a clastic dike.
Sill
A sill is an intrusion between older layers of sedimentary rock, beds of volcanic lava or tuff, and even alongside the route of foliation in metamorphic rock. The time period sill is synonymous with concordant intrusive sheet. Which means, not like dikes, the sill doesn’t lower throughout preexisting rocks. Sills are fed by dikes, besides in uncommon areas the place they type in almost vertical beds hooked up on to a magma supply.
Sills will be confused with solidified lava flows; nonetheless, there are a number of variations between them. Intruded sills will present partial melting and incorporation of the encircling country rock. On each contact surfaces of the nation rock into which the sill has intruded, proof of heating will likely be noticed.
Lava flows may even usually present proof of weathering on their higher floor, whereas sills, if nonetheless coated by nation rock, usually don’t.
Rift Valley
A rift valley is a linear-shaped lowland between a number of highlands or mountain ranges created by the motion of a geologic rift or fault. A rift valley is fashioned on a divergent plate boundary, the boundaries between two tectonic plates which might be pulling aside from one another. When the tensional forces had been robust sufficient to trigger the plate to separate aside, a middle block drops down between the 2 blocks at its flanks, forming a graben. This drop of the middle creates the almost parallel steeply dipping partitions of a rift valley when it’s new.
This function is the start of the rift valley, however as the method continues, the valley widens, till it turns into a big basin, that fills with sediment from the rift partitions and the encircling space. Rifts can happen in any respect elevations, from the ocean flooring to plateaus and mountain ranges. They’ll additionally happen in continental crust or in oceanic crust.
Hogback
A hogback is a protracted slender ridge or sequence of hills with a slender crest and steep slopes of almost equal inclination on each flanks. The title for this landform refers to its resemblance in define to the again of a hog.
It was named after a hogback, Hog’s Again, of the North Downs in Surrey, England. This time period can be used for any ridge with a pointy summit and steep slopes of almost equal inclination on each flanks.
Basalt Columns
Predominantly hexagonal in cross-section, these mathematical-looking columns type throughout the cooling of a thick lava stream when contractional joints or fractures type. If a stream cools comparatively quickly, important contraction forces construct up. Whereas a stream can shrink within the vertical dimension with out fracturing, it will probably’t simply accommodate shrinking within the horizontal route except cracks type; the in depth fracture community that develops leads to the formation of columns.
The dimensions of the columns is dependent upon how quickly the cooling of the lava was. Very quick cooling makes smaller (1cm in diameter) columns, whereas slower cooler provides us the bigger selection.
Exfoliation
Exfoliation is an erosional course of that consists of a strategy of separation of successive skinny shells, or spalls, from large rock akin to granite or basalt; it is not uncommon in areas which have reasonable rainfall. The thickness of particular person sheet or plate could also be from a couple of millimetres to a couple metres.
A small-scale type of exfoliation, known as spheroidal weathering, is restricted to boulder-sized rock materials and will happen at some depth throughout the Earth. On this case, rounded boulders are discovered surrounded by layers of disintegrated materials.
Scree/Talus
Scree is a set of damaged rock fragments on the base of crags, mountain cliffs, volcanoes or valley shoulders that has accrued via rockfall from adjoining cliff faces. Scree formation is often attributed to the formation of ice inside mountain rock slopes. Throughout the day, water can stream in joints and discontinuities within the rock wall.
If the temperature drops sufficiently, this water could freeze. Freeze-thaw scree manufacturing is regarded as most typical throughout the spring and fall, when the day by day temperatures fluctuate across the freezing level of water, and snow soften produces ample free water.
Thrust Fault
A thrust fault is a kind of fault with which there was relative motion… through which rocks of decrease stratigraphic place are pushed up and over larger strata. They’re typically acknowledged as a result of they place older rocks above youthful.
Frost Heave
These ‘lenses’ are fashioned by an upwards swelling of soil throughout freezing situations attributable to an rising presence of ice beneath because it grows in direction of the floor. The burden of overlying soil restrains vertical development of the ice and causes the “lens-shaped” areas of ice throughout the soil.
The soil that covers the ice lenses have to be sufficiently porous to permit capillary motion, but not so porous as to interrupt capillary continuity.
Abrasion
That is the form of weathering that always happens to rocks in rivers, seashores, or desert areas. Water and wind can simply take away the higher layer of a rock with friction. The rock is not going to solely scale back in dimension, it’s going to additionally turn into invariably spherical or rectangular in form and intensely easy. Different forces which will trigger friction apart from waves and wind embody glacier actions, gravity, or erosion.
These will all climate the rock. In addition to rocks, total shores can undergo from coastal abrasion. Breaking waves that include sand and different fragments from sea cliffs will carve out the land itself.  An abrasion platform is a shore through which waves continuously trigger friction and discount of the land.
Stack
A stack (or sea stack) consists of a steep and infrequently vertical column or columns of rock within the sea close to a coast, fashioned by erosion. They’re fashioned when a part of a headland is eroded by the drive of the ocean or water crashing in opposition to the rock.
The drive of the water weakens cracks within the headland, inflicting them to later collapse, forming free-standing stacks and even small islands.
Spit
Spits are created by deposition of sediment. It’s an prolonged stretch of seashore materials that tasks out to sea and is joined to the mainland at one finish. They type the place prevailing winds blow at an angle to the shoreline, leading to longshore drift.
Block Weathering
Block weathering happens when strong rock outcrops fracture. A very powerful of mechanical weathering forces is temperature, which fluctuates above and beneath freezing virtually day-after-day. Water in cracks expands because it freezes at night time, forcing cracks wider, then trickles additional into the expanded crack throughout the day. The day by day cycle of temperature additionally impacts the totally different minerals within the rock, which increase and contract at totally different charges and trigger the grains to loosen.
As blocks work their approach unfastened and type steep deposits of talus, their edges start to put on down and so they formally turn into boulders. When erosion wears them down smaller than 256 millimeters throughout, they turn into categorized as cobbles.
Tafoni
Also called cavernous weathering, this can be a kind of mechanical weathering the place you discover small cave-like options in granular rock akin to sandstone, granite, and sandy-limestone with rounded entrances and easy concave partitions, typically related, adjoining, and/or networked.
Presently favored explanations controlling their formation embody salt weathering, differential cementation, structural variation in permeability, wetting-drying, and freezing-thawing cycles, variability in lithology, case hardening and core softening, and/or micro-climate modifications and variation. Tafoni have additionally been known as fretting, stonelace, stone lattice, honeycomb weathering, and alveolar weathering.
Avulsion
Avulsion is the abandonment of a river channel and the formation of a brand new river channel. This often happens on account of channel slopes which might be a lot much less steep than the slope that the river might journey if it took a brand new course.
There are four kinds of avulsion: erosional (when the banks of the course merely erode away), deltaic(pictured above), meanders (when a river cuts off a pointy curve of itself in favor of a shorter path), occurence (often a violent change to the surroundings, like a flood).
Monadnock
A monadnock is an remoted rock hill, knob, ridge, or small mountain that rises abruptly from a gently sloping or just about stage surrounding plain. Volcanic or different processes could give rise to a physique of rock proof against erosion, inside a physique of softer rock akin to limestone which is extra inclined to erosion.
When the much less resistant rock is eroded away, the extra resistant rock is left behind as an remoted mountain. The power of the uneroded rock is usually attributed to the tightness of its jointing.
Tor
Tors are one other kind of landform created by the erosion and weathering of granitic rocks, usually schists, dacites, dolerites, and coarse sandstones. They are often monolithic, however are extra often subdivided into stacks, typically organized in avenues.
Every stack can comprise a number of tiers or pillows, which can turn into separated: rocking pillows are known as logan stones. These stacks are weak to frost motion, typically collapsing, with trails of blocks known as clitter down the slopes.
Stone Run
A stone run (known as additionally stone river, stone stream or stone sea) is a rock landform that’s the results of the erosion of specific rock varieties attributable to the freezing-thawing cycles that came about in over the last Ice Age. The precise formation of stone runs concerned a minimum of 5 processes:weathering, solifluction, frost heaving, frost sorting, and washing.
These stone runs are basically totally different from moraines, rock glaciers, and rock flows or different rock phenomena involving the precise stream of rock blocks underneath stress and are as an alternative fastened stably. The accumulations of boulders haven’t any finer materials between them.
Alluvium
Alluvium is unfastened soil or sediment which has been eroded, reshaped by water in some type, and redeposited in a non-marine setting. Alluvium is often made up of quite a lot of supplies, together with high-quality particles of silt and clay and bigger particles of sand and gravel. When this unfastened materials is deposited or cemented, it’s known as an alluvial deposit or alluvial fan.
It’s often deposited within the decrease a part of the course of a river, forming floodplains and deltas, however could also be deposited at any level the place the river overflows its banks or the place the rate of a river is checked—for instance, the place it runs right into a lake.
Desert Pavement
Desert pavement is a desert floor coated with intently packed, interlocking angular or rounded rock fragments of pebble and cobble dimension. They usually prime alluvial followers. The most typical formation concept means that the gradual elimination of sand, mud and different fine-grained materials by the wind and intermittent rain leaves the bigger fragments behind that are shaken into place via the forces of rain, operating water, wind, gravity, creep, thermal enlargement and contraction, wetting and drying, frost heaving, animal visitors, and the Earth’s fixed microseismic vibrations.
The elimination of small particles by wind doesn’t proceed indefinitely, as a result of as soon as the pavement varieties, it acts as a barrier to withstand additional erosion.
Oxbow Lake
An oxbow lake is a U-shaped physique of water that varieties when a large meander from the principle stem of a river is lower off, making a free-standing physique of water. This landform is so named for its distinctive curved form, resembling the bow pin of an oxbow. This is likely one of the outcomes of a kind of river avulsion.
Bioturbation
This formation is the transforming of soils and sediments by animals or vegetation. Frequent bioturbators embody annelids (“ringed worms”); bivalves like mussels, clams, gastropods, holothurians; or every other infaunal or epifaunal organisms.
Concretions
Concretions are pseudofossils certain with mineral cement in curious shapes. When minerals in water are deposited about any kind of nucleus (akin to a leaf or shell or different particle) they type a rounded mass whose composition is often totally different from the encircling rock.
They are sometimes spherical in form, though irregular shapes can happen.
Laminations
Lamination is a small scale sequence of high-quality layers of sediment in rock. Laminations are usually smaller and fewer pronounced than bedding layering, although weathering can improve the variations between layers. A single sedimentary rock can have each laminae and beds, the bedding being outlined as thicker than one centimeter and the laminae as being much less.
They’re attributable to modifications within the provide of sediment that have an effect on grain dimension, coloration and composition.
Amygdules
These are mineral-filled bubbles in petrified lava. They type when the gasoline bubbles or vesicles in extrusive igneous rocks are crammed with one other mineral like calcite, quartz or chlorite.  Some amygdules are stretched, not spherical.
These began out as spherical vesicles and had been deformed whereas the lava was nonetheless fluid. Amygdules and vesicles are often indicators of motion in historical lavas.
Fiamme
Fiamme are lens-shaped, often millimetres to centimetres in dimension, seen on surfaces of some volcaniclastic rocks. Some fiamme symbolize fragments of volcanic ejecta which have been flattened by compaction and/or shear.
Vein
A vein is a definite sheetlike physique of crystallized minerals inside a rock. Veins type when mineral constituents carried by water throughout the rock mass are deposited. They’re often considered being the results of development of crystals on the partitions of fractures in rocks, with the crystal development taking place on the partitions of the cavity, and the crystal protruding into open house.
This actually is the strategy for the formation of some veins. Nonetheless, it’s uncommon in geology for important open house to stay open in massive volumes of rock, particularly a protracted distance beneath the floor. Thus, there are two fundamental mechanisms thought of seemingly for the formation of veins: open-space filling and crack-seal development.

Fluoride IQ Study Set Off Debate Among Anti-Fluoride Groups And Doctors
Sean Gallup / Getty Images
Conspiracy theorists have railed for seven decades against fluoride, suggesting that water fluoridation was a government mind-control trick or communist plot.
Now, an August study published by a well-regarded medical journal, JAMA Pediatrics, has re-ignited debate about fluoride, both from harsh critics of fluoridation and harsh critics of the study. The authors observed a link between fluoride, pregnant women and the IQ of their children. It stopped short of recommending cancelling fluoridation programs, but did warn expecting mothers to watch how much fluoride they consumed while the link was checked out.
“Maternal exposure to higher levels of fluoride during pregnancy was associated with lower IQ scores in children aged 3 to 4 years,” concluded the study.
The study authors and independent experts told BuzzFeed News that the finding raises questions about unknown effects that fluoride could have on vulnerable people, such as extremely young kids and expecting mothers. However, they also braced themselves for their concerns to be co-opted by the anti-fluoride camp.
“I think that it is highly likely that it will stoke conspiracy theories, even though it is not merited at this point,” Adam Spanier, professor of pediatrics at the University of Maryland School of Medicine told BuzzFeed News by email ahead of the study’s launch. Tracey Woodruff, a professor of reproductive health at the University of San Francisco who was not involved with the study, told BuzzFeed News that publishing on fluoride “is like touching a third rail in public health,” anticipating that the paper would stir controversy. “I think this message could be easily misconstrued as us saying, don’t drink fluoridated water — we’re not saying that,” study author Christine Till, professor of psychology at York University in Toronto, told BuzzFeed News.
Sure enough, the Fluoride Action Network (FAN), a noted anti-fluoride group, posted links to more than a dozen media reports of the study on its website. And it issued its own press release two days after the study ran, claiming that “pro-fluoridation” critiques of the study were “unfounded.” On Facebook, the group has posted nearly daily about the study since Aug. 19, the day it was published online. “To ignore brain health and continue fluoridation in name of dental health is a huge disservice to the children of this country,” the group wrote on Twitter.
When environmental lawyer and anti-vaccine proponent Robert Kennedy Jr. tweeted a CNN story covering the paper, someone tweeted back: “Fluoride is a byproduct of aluminum and a smart con man convinced people to put in the water many years ago. And we have been drinking that poison for years,” echoing an anti-fluoride theory famously satirized in the 1964 flick, Dr. Strangelove. On Infowars, right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones devoted a segment to the news, wrongly claiming that fluoride “brain damages babies, lowers IQ,” and then plugged water filters sold on his website.
Public health groups meanwhile pushed back hard against the study’s results: The UK’s National Health Service wrote that there was “No proof that a mother’s intake of fluoride in pregnancy affects their child’s IQ,” and framed it as a takedown of a Daily Mail story describing the study results. The American Dental Association said it was “committed to fluoridation of public water supplies as the single most effective public health measure to help prevent tooth decay,” in a statement. “We welcome this and further scientific study of the issue to see if the findings can be replicated with methods that demonstrate more conclusive evidence.” The pro-industry nonprofit, the American Council on Science and Health asked, “Are study’s conclusions true?” And concluded: “It’s doubtful.”
Amidst the fisticuffs, researchers say the tenor of the public debate over fluoride has chilled necessary work into a health program that affects millions of Americans. Also, they say, fluoride ideas have been fiercely divisive even among academic groups.
“‘Anti-fluoride’ seems to mean that you’re an evil human being that doesn’t think,” Pamela Den Besten, a professor at the UCSF School of Dentistry, told BuzzFeed News. “It’s like having a scarlet ‘AF’ letter on you, and it really impacts careers.”
Den Besten said she describes the schism in science on fluoride thinking “more like religion than science,” and as a dental expert studying fluoride’s effects on cells in teeth, she has found it to be at times a difficult field to work in.
It’s been an uphill battle to find funding for this research, Till, who led the new study, told BuzzFeed News. The idea that IQ in kids and fluoride consumption were linked was not a new one — environmental health journals have been publishing such studies since about 2012. But Till wanted doctors, and ultimately the patients they saw, to get the message.
“The medical journals where we felt we had to get the dialogue going were a bit more skeptical of the research,” she said. “I was close to giving up on the medical establishment when we were trying to publish.” Grants and study manuscripts would get opposite reviews from different reviewers: “Someone loves it, someone hates it.”
The study itself included 512 mothers and their children from six cities in Canada. The researchers measured how much fluoride the mothers consumed by testing their urine for traces of it each trimester. Also, they calculated how much fluoride 400 women drank — black and green tea are known to contain fluoride, for example, and some women lived in cities that are known to add fluoride to the water.
Spanier, of the University of Maryland, told BuzzFeed News that the methods were more powerful than studies that came before it. “The study suggests that pregnant women expecting a boy might want to be cautious about their fluoride intake if they are in the demographic presented — wealthy, white, married, educated,” Spanier said. He repeated also Till’s message that the study included all kinds of fluoride intake, and did not link the children’s IQ to fluoride from drinking water specifically. He added the unified demographics of the group limited how broadly it could be interpreted.
In an editorial that ran with Till’s study, David Belligner, a professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School and Boston Children’s Hospital wrote that “the hypothesis that fluoride is a neurodevelopmental toxicant must now be given serious consideration.” He told NPR: “It’s actually very similar to the effect size that’s seen with childhood exposure to lead.”
An editorial note accompanying the study acknowledged the controversy it might trigger within the academic community. “This decision to publish this article was not easy,” JAMA Pediatrics editor Dimitri Christakis, University of Washington pediatrics professor wrote, adding that the piece had undergone “additional scrutiny” of its methods and results.

The CDC has listed water fluoridation, which began in the US in 1945, as one of the top public health wins of the 20th century, alongside car safety, vaccinations, and the acknowledgement that tobacco is a health hazard. The stuff occurs naturally in some water systems, but when added to municipal water it inexpensively prevented tooth decay in kids and tooth loss in adults, the CDC wrote. The additive has also been previously found to be harmful in excess: After studies showed how fluoride consumed in very high levels could damage the bones and teeth, in 2015, the US Public Health Service recommended fluoridating at about 0.7 milligrams per liter of water, and the EPA limited how much of the substance was allowed in the drinking water. In the last few years, some communities have stopped fluoridating their water after residents questioned the practice and complained to remove it.
“There’s something very personal about water. People take the sanctity of their water very, very seriously,” Catherine Carstairs, a history professor at the University of Guelph, who has written about the past decades of fluoride fights, told BuzzFeed News. She said that most people who worry about fluoridation aren’t conspiracy theory converts — they’re just concerned about something they see as a chemical in the water supply. “It’s certainly time for a much more nuanced and complex debate,” Carstairs said.
As a next step, Till is looking to study fluoride levels in baby teeth to more clearly link children’s fluoride exposure during their early childhood to their IQ.
“We have our work cut out for the rest of my career at least,” Till said.

Do It When No One Is Watching
This conversation that dear H started this week is written about a lot and is widely preached but scantily followed. I embark on writing this topic not knowing what I can write that hasn’t been written, said or lectured before. Do you read a negative connotation in my words? It is because that is how most of us react to a lesson in Ethics, with a stifled yawn, although the fact that we as a society feel the need to be taught Ethics tells us that ethics and integrity are just as uncommon as common sense.
A frequent suggestion was given when asked how to judge if a decision made is right or not is to ask oneself if their choice would be different if they knew that their loved ones are watching them. The fact is on a day to day basis we pay attention neither to the myriad decisions we make nor to the motivations that drive our inner self to make those decisions because most of them are driven by nature, and well, let us be honest here, there is just no time to think over every decision made. For the most part, these decisions do not harm anyone, but there are those times when something we said or did bothers us, makes us queasy, annoys us like a fly that hovers just near enough to drive you up the wall. That nagging feeling is the guilt, and it could be a minor decision or a major or a first of its kind, but we feel that when we know, we stepped off the rail.
So, we do not need a lesson in ethics, do we? It seems to me like we have a built-in moral compass that guides us in the right direction. The feeling of guilt we are talking about is not driven by someone else watching us but us watching ourselves. The trouble is that not all of us are introspective and hence we do not feel the shame creeping upon us until we see another pair of eyes noticing our actions. Thus it seems to me that this built-in moral compass is influenced by quite a few parameters like enforcement of Law and Order, Demographic history, culture and norms, the company we keep etc.,
I will give you an example closer to my roots. I was 18 when I secured my driving licence. My driving test was on a two-wheeler 150cc scooter, but the licence I received was for a four-wheeler heavy vehicle and all because I knew someone who knew someone and so on. After the fact, I never went beyond driving a two-wheeler because roads scare me but someone else could easily have done so, and they do, and if you’ve driven on Indian roads, you know what I am talking about. Now, let’s think of the last time you secured a driving licence out here in North America because you knew someone? Why do you think that is?
Bribery is rampant in India, and everybody from the street hawker to the CEO is corrupt, with few exceptions, and we are not talking about that minority here. At times the corruption is banal like a few currency notes to the Peon in an office gets you information of what time is best to visit an officer. No one gives a second thought to this action. It is regular, mundane, as frequent as urinating on the walls in public. Then there are those times when an entire housing complex is planned by Government in prime real estate area at, well, Government rates; millions of families invest their retirement money into this and are scammed because the development doesn’t go beyond the foundation stone. These people lose their life’s savings and no one is held responsible. They scramble to find answers but there is no one to answer their questions. Is the Law intervening? Not that I see. There is no fear of consequence, and hence the ethics of the individual is just as the crow flies. This example of the East is not to say that corruption doesn’t exist in the West. It does and at Enron magnitude but there is an associated fear of consequence and hence quite ingeniously masked.
Corruption is an obvious example of ethics. Now, if we think about the more subtle form of ethics, we step into the unknown. Recently with the Trump administration in play and the melee over banning Ivanka Trump’s products, I was suddenly aware of her existence. Now, I never paid attention to her style before but lately every time I pick a dress off the rack, it ends up being Ivanka, and the price is decent while the type is flattering. The prosaicness of the matter allows me to grab the dress and move without a second thought to what I contributed towards by doing that. Honestly, I do not know, but the point is that at the grassroots most of us do things without knowing what we are contributing to. It is legal, and so we do not give a thought to it. Most of us have bigger things to worry about like getting dinner ready and prepping the presentation for the meeting the next day. There are however those of us who are aware of what they are contributing to and the burden of the decision making knowing something is legal and will lead to a good payday but is not the right thing to do, is substantial.
I remember this dialogue from a movie I was watching the other day where a princess standing in the shade of an umbrella was talking to a spiteful worker farming in the hot sun asking her why she was saying hateful words about her. The farmer looks at her and says, “It is effortless to make promises with a full stomach and a shade over your head. Sleep on an empty stomach with a hungry baby and sweat under the sun working till your hands bleed and then promise as you mean it, and I’ll believe you.” It is something to think about. Integrity and ethics is not a characteristic for a regular day; everyone can be ethical when all parameters are controlled. Integrity comes into play when the parameters are altered when the reality changes when desire is replaced with necessity.
Read the other part of this Duolog(ue).
Right To or Right To
Ethics and Money have a complicated relationship. One is almost always in contention with the other. You follow one, and the other seems to abandon you; maybe not entirely but the estrangement is real.

Weed has positively been recognized to get the artistic juices flowing, and these distinguished historic figures are not any exception.
Are you stunned that a few of these folks smoked that wacky tobacc-y? Tell us what you consider these profitable pot people who smoke within the remark part under!
William Shakespeare
Place in Historical past William Shakespeare was a 16th century English playwright who’s broadly thought of to be one of many biggest, if not the best, dramatists of all time. Shakespeare additionally wrote about a “noted weed” in one of his sonnets. I feel we are able to all guess what he was speaking about…
Why It’s Superior Keep in mind these performs listed above? These aren’t the one ones: Shakespeare additionally penned A Midsummer Night time’s Dream, Othello, and Macbeth. If smoking a little bit of grass helped Shakespeare create masterpieces, then stoners in every single place have another excuse to guarantee their mother and father that they don’t seem to be, in actual fact, losing their lives. We might all like to see a sonnet composed by a recent pothead. Shall I examine thee to a Doritos Locos? Thou artwork extra flavorful and scrumptious.
Queen Victoria
Place in Historical past Queen Victoria dominated the British Empire from 1837 till 1901. She continues to be Britain’s longest-ruling monarch, and helped information the nation by the adjustments that got here with industrialization and modernization.

Russell Reynolds, prescribed marijuana for her menstrual cramps. In an 1890 difficulty of The Lancet, one of many world’s oldest medical journals, Reynolds wrote that marijuana is “one of the useful medicines we possess.”
Why It’s Superior Ever hear of the Victorian period? That is the lady who embodied that repressed time interval, throughout which it was thought of scandalous to evensay the word “leg” in mixed company. So it’s superior to assume that the lady who led a nation in carrying corsets and eschewing all point out of bodily capabilities was secretly doping to be able to cope together with her PMS.

Why It’s Superior
Rumors abound that lots of our Founding Fathers used marijuana, however most lack definitive proof. Robinson’s account of Monroe smoking cannabis when he went to France is probably the most stable supply for any of those claims. If it’s true, this may imply that Monroe would have continued smoking marijuana whereas he was within the White Home.

Hopefully these sufferers a minimum of had just a few nice unintended effects.
Why It’s Superior These days teenage boys certainly get extra pleasure out of their marijuana use than boys in historic Greece did. However a minimum of the traditional Greeks had been open to utilizing hashish, not like many of the world right now. They usually removed tapeworm with marijuana, too. Let’s face it, no one likes tapeworms.
