Walnut
Since his retirement last month, my husband has been using the lumber and Random Things my father stockpiled at Home Farm to make furniture. Yesterday he collected up what must have been hundreds if not thousands of $-worth of black walnut lumber that my father had cut to very odd dimensions*. It literally made him shaky and sweaty to start cutting these pieces up to make a table out of them. Talk about 'measure twice and cut once'; he was measuring three times!
I don't know quite what the finished table is going to look like, but it will be heavy as hell. There was a little block left from one 4x4 beam; I asked him for it. He cleaned the edges up a little and gave it to me. It smells amazing.
It's a bit bigger than a rubic's cube, and a rich dark brown (ignore the reddish hue; I tried to edit the photo and just made it worse. It is not red-brown in real life.)
_* Who cuts boards 2 inches /5cm thick? Out of the most expensive type of wood we have? And then just leaves them sitting in a pile in the barn? My father, that's who.

I made a pair of mushroom ottomans.
I can sit on them and store stuff too!
It was a pain of a process, absolutely never again. But I'm really happy with them.

My original manga shelf from 2021, from before I made my much nicer new one. This one was practical but kind of ugly.
This one was also made at the Melbourne Makerspace in FL.

found a really neat site about wicker furniture, the history of it, and how to make it. Super useful info. I'm thinking about maybe trying the techniques out with a bunch of the plastic bottles I've sliced into ribbons as I don't currently have access to cane or reed.

It's been a while and in a while I mean I deleted everything three years ago and have been lurking since then.....However here's my current project while I learn a new art program and try to dig my watercolors out from beyond the grave....
This is a side table to a dresser and desk set that me and my mother got and ive been re-doing by myself. Right now I'm branching out from jewelry and testing out how an epoxy resin top would look, it's nowhere near completed yet but I plan on updating about it here rather than my insta or tiktok

I'm really really happy about this shelf that I put together and set up my books and plants and trinkets on. :D (ignore the DEH, I do not support it in any way)

Saddle
I don't want the prior post to get obnoxiously long, so I'll start a new one. I began with this:
Managed to remove the girth and girth strap, also one stirrup
However, that knife is deadly! And I will need a little piece of wood to put behind the other pieces that I'm cutting off, to keep the knife from cutting the layer below. I wiped off a lot of dust and crud, then started with linseed oil.
I'm undecided about the metal ornamentation (conchos). They're too tarnished to ever look good again, but if I remove them completely the spot where they attached will look . . odd? Hmm. Buying new ones is not an option.
I always found that seat very comfortable, though; I'm looking forward to having that in front of my easel and seeing if it isn't a little friendlier for my back when I paint.

Custom record player table and record collection storage I made in 2021. I don’t have this anymore but I want to remake something similar eventually.
I made this original one at the Melbourne Makerspace in Florida.
