Blood of My Blood
https://archiveofourown.org/works/27484678
Summary: Halloween fic. Sora--as his Halloween Town "vampire self", of course--takes Riku and Kairi to Halloween Town for the first time... and this would be great, if he didn't find himself wanting Kairi's blood. Not quite what you think. Twist ending.
As Sora, Riku, and Kairi all hung-out in Halloween Town together for the first time ever, Sora noticed that he… seemed to want Kairi’s blood?! And it terrified him!
Just… what was going on? Sora tried to figure out, as Riku poured candy after candy (that the town square was giving away) into a pillowcase that Kairi was holding open for him.
Donald’s magic had never turned Sora into a true vampire before, so what gave? The Keyblade wielder tried desperately to convince himself that the only reason he cared about Kairi’s blood now, was because it meant she was alive… but it didn’t seem to be working.
Would he actually… bite her, he panicked now—clenching a hand into his fist, as he stood under the guillotine while thinking it might be best if it fell—or was he just going crazy? Hopefully the latter!
Sora wanted to warn Kairi away from him, for her own good. But his sense of pride—that told him he would of course never harm her—overrode that. Especially since this was supposed to be a fun outing for the three of them, that they definitely deserved.
So, Sora did the only thing he could do right now: he ignored the situation entirely, whilst Riku—who was dressed like a ghost—quipped at the "angel" Kairi. "I have to say, that I'm glad Donald didn't make me a werewolf here. Because that would be too tired, wouldn’t it? A vampire and werewolf fighting over an angel girl?"
With that sentence, Sora thought Riku was maybe trying to hint that his being a vampire was a cliché. And so the new Keyblade Master moved quickly to defend himself, as the three friends began heading back towards the doctor’s lab.
"Hey! I’ll have you know, that I'm not a typical vampire from media, who can only drink blood and stuff. Like, I can still enjoy sweets like candy. And, actually, I’m completely lying. I only enjoy sweets and candies, because Donald’s turning me into a vampire is completely aesthetic. Speaking of... would you like some candy, Kairi? I can’t help noticing you didn’t grab any for yourself."
The Princess of Heart smiled—and it almost made Sora weak at the knees, like he was falling in love again—and she gave an answer that only she would. "No thanks, Sora. Not for me, anyway. You know I'm trying to stay fit these days. But if you don’t listen to me and give me some anyway, I'll gladly hand it off to the children we visit in other worlds."
"Only you, Kairi," Riku laughed, as the three of them neared the large steps. But Sora could tell that he was actually proud of her. As was he.
"But sometimes you do have to cheat, Kairi," Sora argued. "...Especially right now, when it looks like you're about to pass out from low blood sugar?! Kairi?!"
Immediately, Sora ran to catch his girlfriend, who was slumping over—something he'd done a million times, and always would—and Riku was right there with him.
And Sora immediately felt sick as he held Kairi in his arms. One, because she looked white. Just what had happened to her?! And two... because he now wanted her blood more than ever! And he still couldn’t imagine why, because Sora still swore that Donald hadn’t turned him into a true vampire here.
But pushing that thought down, so that he could be everything that he needed to be for Kairi,  Sora and Riku took Kairi into Dr. Finkelstein’s lab without any more preamble. And near instantly, the good doctor, Jack, and Sally began fussing around them.
And meanwhile, Sora still tried to keep from biting Kairi, as he laid her down on the gurney that a certain Heartless had been on, so long ago.
…Until he realized that maybe biting her was exactly what he ought to be doing! Or moreover, sucking venom out of her leg? Because now that Sora thought about it, they’d all been standing in very tall grass before, so of course a snake could have been there and easily gotten to his princess!
Moving on pure instinct now, Sora moved Kairi’s stocking out of the way, and sure enough saw an ugly looking red-ish purple mark there. And before he could worry about making himself sick with the venom by doing this, he put his lips to her marred skin and began sucking.
Fortunately, Riku had seen what Sora had and was on the same page that he was. He was even barking at their friends to get things ready (such as tourniquets), if this all went sideways… or if Sora got too much venom in his system now, and they’d have to find a way to save him.
And Sora didn’t stop his work, until he saw the loveliest pair of violet eyes he’d ever seen slide open and a smile in his direction.
“Sora,” Kairi whispered breathlessly now, as she grabbed at his hands and tried to push his mouth away from her: for his sake, he was sure. “I figured out what had happened to me when I began going down… but I couldn’t do anything about it. But I knew you being who you are, you’d figure it out.”
And though Sora wished he could have said something equally romantic to that right away, he instead spat the venom he’d just tasted onto the floor, and then curled up on the bed beside Kairi—kissing her forehead, as he brought her into his arms.
It only lasted a second. Because then, rightfully, their friends were pushing them apart, to check them both over.
And with all this love in the air—and when both Sora and Kairi were deemed okay—Sora couldn’t help thinking it had been the best Halloween ever.
Author’s Note: In case it wasn’t clear, Sora never wanted Kairi’s blood in a vampire sense here. Rather, his heart realized that Kairi had been bitten by a snake, and the only way to save her would be to suck the venom out of her blood. Which was why he “wanted her blood”.
Also, apparently doing that is actually bad science and doesn’t really work (rather, you want to put gauze over the wound and stuff and go to the hospital). But oh well. We’ll just say Sora’s friends helped them out the right way, after Sora did a teeny bit of the work;)
So, this story is one I had an idea for for a few years. But now I don’t think it turned out as well as I hoped it would. Oh well.

‘Illegal Occupied Regime of Isra-hell’ is Trying to ‘Break’ this East Jerusalem Village — With Brutal Results
Malek is the latest child in occupied Issawiya to lose an eye from a rubber bullet as ‘Zionist Cunts’ Terrorist Occupied Isra-helli Police’ intensify repression of Palestinian residents.
— By Judith Sudilovsky | February 25, 2020 | Dr. Norman Gary Finkelstein | 972Mag.Com

Malek Issa at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem. Malek was shot in the eye by a sponge-tipped bullet fired by an Israeli police officer in Issawiya on February 15, 2020
For more than a week since their nine-year-old son Malek was shot in the eye by a sponge-tipped bullet, Wael and Sawsan Issa kept vigil over him together with friends and relatives at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, first at the intensive care unit and then at the pediatric ward.
Despite several surgeries, doctors were unable to save Malek’s left eye and thus had to remove it. After being sent home on Monday, the family returned to Hadassah a few hours later due to the pain the boy was suffering.
Concerns that Malek might have suffered brain damage have been allayed and he has been communicating, says his father Wael Issa. “He is sleeping. He does not want to speak with anyone. It hurts and he wants quiet. It will take some time.”
The bullet that hit Malek’s head was shot by an Israeli police officer on Feb. 15, during an arrest raid by Israeli forces in the Palestinian village of Issawiya in East Jerusalem. According to press reports, the officer claimed he had shot the bullet at a wall to calibrate his sights.
The police also claimed they were responding to protests they had encountered during the arrest; however, video footage of the incident showed only normal street traffic in the area.
“We know the boy was injured in the upper part of the body when the police were on patrol in the area,” Police Spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told +972. “As far as we know, the incident is being investigated by the Ministry of Justice,” as per protocol when civilians are injured by a police officer, he says.
Issa charges that the bullet was aimed directly at the middle of his son’s forehead.

An Israeli Border Policewoman stands guard during a demonstration in Issawiya, East Jerusalem, against the new cement blockades at the entrances to Issawiya, on November 12, 2014.
Eyewitnesses, including Malek’s 10-year-old cousin who had been with him and his two sisters when they stopped at a kiosk to buy a sandwich, also say there were no disturbances on the street.
The cousin, whose mother asked that his name not be used, explained that Malek did not hear his sisters telling him to wait because there were soldiers in the street, and had run ahead of them. “Then he fell to the floor,” the cousin said.
For the cousin’s mother, this incident is a familiar story in Issawiya. “The police come to make arrests when the children are coming out of school,” she says. After the shooting, her child “was very nervous at home. It is as if they also injured my son.” A social worker and psychologist were to meet Malek’s classmates to help deal with their traumas from the event, she added.
The shooting is not an isolated incident. Malek is the eleventh child from Issawiya to lose an eye from a rubber-tipped bullet, says his father, who has left his job at a Tel Aviv restaurant to be with his son while he recovers. His wife and daughters have sought counseling, he notes, but he is doing without.
Issawiya has been the site of increased police patrols and arrests since last summer, with over 700 people arrested and one youth killed. Residents have complained of constant harassment by the Israeli authorities, with parents fearing for their children’s safety in public.
“I don’t allow my children to go outside and play anywhere,” says Issa. “I’m afraid all the time. But they had come back from school, and their mother told them that it was a nice day and that they could walk home from where the bus dropped them off. They stopped for a minute to buy some sweets, and despite all my precautions, Malek was shot.”

Israeli Border Police blocking the entrance to the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya, checking every Palestinian wanting to pass, on Friday, October 16, 2015.
A tour through the village reveals many apartment buildings donning brand new roll-down blinds — not out of aesthetic concern or because people have money to spend, but for protection against stray bullets, says community leader Mohammed Abu-Hummos.
“It is a daily thing,” says fellow village resident Hashem Ashahab, who has five children. “The police come to create tension. There was an agreement (with local leaders) that they would not come when schools let the children out, but they broke the agreement… Why do the police always choose to come to make their arrests and patrols during the time when there is the most traffic? I have five children, three of them go to school, and I am always afraid something will happen to them. [But] I can’t not send my children to school.”
Climbing into a minivan used for local transportation in Issawiya, a woman, 35, who declined to give her name, says incidents between the police and the youth could break out at any moment, and residents always have to be on alert.
Aviv Tatarsky, a research assistant at Ir Amim who has been tracking the situation in Issawiya in cooperation with local Palestinian residents, explains that there has been “quite an intense police disruption of freedom of movement and safety of the residents” in the village since June 2019.
Though the intensity of the summer raids have decreased for now, they are still ongoing, Tatarsky says. Despite dialogue between the police and local leaders under the auspices of the Jerusalem municipality, he adds, police have disregarded the agreements reached, as resident Ashahab similarly charged.
The Jerusalem municipal courts and the Israeli Welfare Ministry have not been vocal enough against the police raids which disrupt the lives of the village residents, continues Tatarsky, though council members Laura Wharton and Yossi Chaviliao, together with a group of 40 school principals, have appealed to Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion about the situation. “Maybe a few things are said behind closed doors but certainly not in the open,” he says.

Palestinian women look on during a raid by Israeli police in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya, July 1, 2019.
A high-ranking official in the municipality’s education department tried to offer himself as an intermediary between the residents and the police, says Tatarsky. “But without the backing of the mayor they do not have the power to stop the police.”
Police Spokesman Rosenfeld told +972 that police patrols are carried out in all East Jerusalem villages to prevent violent activities from taking place and to respond when they do occur.
He says that “severe incidents” had been taking place over the past months in the neighborhood, including petrol bombs and stones thrown at police cars and at cars traveling along the Jerusalem-Ma’aleh Adumim highway (Road 1), located below the village. In October, he added, a local resident’s vehicle was hit by a Molotov cocktail intended for a police car. “Unfortunately in that village, there are many more incidents than in other villages,” says Rosenfeld.
“Our police officers are in contact with leaders of the community in order to try to prevent incidents from taking place,” he continues. “Our message for the community is to prevent incidents before they take place. Police will continue patrolling the area day and night in order to prevent violent incidents both in and around the village.”
Tatarsky holds that the image of Issawiya as a hot-bed of violence is more of a creation of Israeli imagination than anything else. “If you look for attacks or groups who are active in Issawiya you will find none. It is very telling that the police have not been able to show any single event or series of events that prompted its attacks.”

Current Jerusalem police chief Doron Yadid, attending an Economy Committee meeting at the Knesset in Jerusalem on March 20, 2017.
Tatarsky links the increased police presence to new Jerusalem Police Chief Maj. Gen. Doron Yadid, who replaced Yoram Halevi in February 2019. According to Tatarsky, the intensified raids began just a few months after Yadid took over.
“He made a few changes in policing East Jerusalem, more aggressive,” he explains. For example, Yadid re-introduced the use of border police in Palestinian neighborhoods instead of the regular community police patrols which had been used by his predecessor.
But Yadid’s hardline tactics to disrupt daily life including through collective punishment to “break” Issawiya residents is a “big mistake,” warns Tatarsky. “He achieved the opposite: resistance and opposition. Opposition against military presence in the neighborhood is… worse than it used to be with his predecessor. Border police are not welcome in Issawiya.”
Moreover, according to Tatarsky, out of some 700 arrests made by the police, only 20 indictments have been issued, and even then for acts that were committed only because the police entered the neighborhood.
“You terrorize youth who now have all kinds of psychological damage and anger. This has caused more damage and (the police chief) is not able to show anything he actually achieved,” says Tatarsky.
“What is happening in Issawiya is unprecedented,” he adds. “We never had such an intensive violent disruptive campaign with really no reason and for so long.”

Part 15:  Pumpkin Screams
Hot damn, Halloween Town!  I really like this world.  It has a really nice aesthetic, with a great color pallet and cute monster costumes for the trio.  It isn’t a very plot heavy world (in fact, it is totally possible to completely skip Halloween Town and go straight to Neverland if you want and nothing in the rest of the game would be different) but it does make for a nice breather before we hit some really tense stuff after it.  My one major gripe is that this is the first world where not having all of the original voice actors from the movie really grates on me.  I’ve noticed in other places (most notably in Agrabah with the Genie and Jasmine) but here is the worst.  At least Chris Sarandon returns as Jack Skellington to fight Oogie Boogie to the pain.
Tumblr media
This is the first (and possible only) world that is not actually a Disney movie or original world to the series (at least before KH3 hits and we get some Pixar in here).  The Nightmare Before Christmas was distributed by Paramount, which is a company owned by Disney (it was actually the company that Disney used to release all of their PG13 stuff under).  It isn’t that big of a deal, but I found it interesting because this could be the precedent that they use to include anything from Disney’s other subsidiary companies in future games, most notably stuff like Star Wars or Marvel.  (For the record, I really hope they don’t go that route.)
You show up in Halloween Town to find the main square filled with heartless.  They are just floating there, though, not attacking no matter what you do.  You overhear Jack and the Mayor discuss how the heartless won’t dance like they need to for the Halloween Festival and the Jack is going to get Doctor Finkelstein to fix this.  At the lab, the good doctor is says he’s going to make a heart for the heartless, starting with a locked container.  Sora wants to help them, though Donald is against them.  Honestly, Sora makes a really good point.  If they can figure out a way to control the heartless (or at least a way without using darkness powers) than they won’t have to fight their way across the universe anymore.
First you need to find Sally at the cemetery to get forget-me-nots.  She is against the plan to get the heartless to dance.  Jack just brushes her off in his normal oblivious fashion.  Next you need “surprise” from the mayor (which is a memory game leading to a pumpkin explosion).
While you have been collecting stuff from people, Lock, Shock, and Barrel have been conspiring to steal the heartless controlling heart for Oogie Boogie.  I don’t know when this is supposed to be set, in regards to the movie, by the way.  Sally and Jack are clearly not an item (she sputters over her feelings when you first meet her) but Oogie Boogie is really soundly thrashed at the end of the film.  My best guess is that anything from the movie that contradicts this game didn’t happen in this parallel dimension but everything else did.   Anyway, those three pesky kids rob Finkelstein and you need to rush after them to Oogie Boogie’s house.
Oogie Boogie’s house is terrible.  Now I don’t mean aesthetically.  It looks downright cool.  But I have a tendency to fall off stuff while enthusiastically whacking things with my keyblade and having to re-go up it multiple times sucks.
There is some catharsis in beating up a gang of kids though!  Once you thrashed Lock, Shock, and Barrel, you have to head all the way down to Oogie Boogie’s main lair.
When you get there, Jack demands Oogie Boogie return the heart.  Oogie responds by eating it.  He tries to call the heartless to do his bidding but is pissed when only two answer his call.  Well at least there are four schmucks there for him to take his anger out on.
Oogie Boogie has made the whole room into a roulette torture room.  This is one boss battle where Donald and Goofy are going to be even less helpful than normal.  Most of the battle is avoiding Oogie Boogie’s exploding dice and various torture machines while waiting for some buttons on the ground to glow.  Once they do and you manage to step on the correct one to fence the two of you in the same segment of the room, you can attack him.  It’s a little frustrating because being trapped most of the time unable to hit him makes the battle artificially long.
When you’ve finally thrashed him enough, Oogie Boogie dissolves into a pool of bugs.  Jack is unmoved by this, simply noting that the heart was a failure.
After calmly leaving the manor, there is an earthquake.  The dust clears and it is revealed that Oogie Boogie is now 1) gigantic and 2) merged with his house.  Sora is as confused by this development as I am.  No time to dwell though, there are black globs on him that we need to destroy.  The only hard part of this is the hoards of gargoyle heartless that show up to bother you as you are trying to find the one glob you missed and you keep falling off the house/Oogie hybrid.
Once that is done, though, Oogie Boogie and his house go down in a cloud of dust.  This reveals the Halloween Town keyhole.  There is a pretty shot of Sora shooting the moon to have light cascade down onto the keyhole to lock it.  The last bit of roundup for the world is Jack admitting that maybe using heartless for the Halloween celebrations is not a good idea.  Sally promises to help him come up with a new idea.
