R.E.M. - Capitol Theatre, Passaic, New Jersey, June 9, 1984
Don't go back to Rockville — go to Passaic, instead! Just about 40 years ago, R.E.M. was touring behind their classssssic second LP Reckoning and they'd graduated permanently from small clubs to theaters like the legendary Capitol. Pretty soon, these jangle merchants would be too big for that venue, even!
This excellent quality recording and performance was taped for MTV's "Rock Influences: Folk Rock" episode. Inspiring! In fact, if you go over and watch the video, you'll see R.E.M. welcoming OG folk rockers Roger McGuinn and John Sebastian onstage during the encore. Do you believe in magic? Eh, kind of. For further hijinks, here's a pre-show interview with the MTV-ers, Stipe looking totally suspicious (and dreamy).
But what did Peter Buck think about MTV back in the day? "It really stinks! It's basically the most AOR radio with pictures. They play the same five groups every hour ... by and large it's really boring." He also goes onto badmouth The Byrds. Say it ain't so, Pete!

LZZY HALE Shares Cover Of LINKIN PARK's 'Crawling'
Lzzy Hale has shared a cover of LINKIN PARK's "Crawling". The 40-year-old HALESTORM frontwoman posted a video of her piano-led rendition on Instagram on Wednesday (August 28),the same day that LINKIN PARK's mysterious 100-hour countdown came to an end.Although Lzzy did not include any information about the timing of her post, she liked several comments that speculated that she might be involved in some capacity in LINKIN PARK's rumored reunion.
LINKIN PARK launched the 100-hour countdown timer on its web site and official social media accounts on Saturday, August 24. The same countdown timer was shared by the Instagram account of Welcome To Rockville, fueling speculation that some of the band's surviving members will perform at next year's edition of the Danny Wimmer Presents-produced festival, set to take place May 15-18, 2025 in Daytona Beach, Florida.
LINKIN PARK has since announced that it will hold a special event on Thursday, September 5, and members of the band's official fan club, Linkin Park Underground (commonly referred to as the LPU),have reportedly been e-mailed about the same event, which will take place in Los Angeles. The event is only open to LPU members, with tickets being randomly assigned. It will reportedly take place between 12:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. local time.
This past May, Billboard reported that LINKIN PARK was considering a possible 2025 reunion tour with a female vocalist stepping in for late lead singer Chester Bennington.
LINKIN PARK's booking agency WME was reportedly taking offers for a potential tour along with headlining festival dates that would feature Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson and Dave Farrell, Billboard's sources said.
One of the sources told Billboard that LINKIN PARK was hoping to find a female vocalist to front the reunited band, a rumor which was first started in April by ORGY frontman Jay Gordon who mentioned during a radio interview that he had "heard" that LINKIN PARK was working with a "girl singer now". When pressed, Gordon continued by saying: "Don't quote me on that. I'm not sure who the singer is going to be, but I heard it was gonna be female. They might just try to move on like that. That ought to be interesting." Jay later seemingly walked back his comments, writing in a Facebook post that he knew "nothing about any of that" and accused "people" of taking his words "out of context.".

The Flower - the true story of Chiara and Vally (part #2)
A short novel by Luna (Max G.)
Summary: Where you will learn how time flows right when the besties are together and you’ll discover that for Vally, “on her own terms” means much more than sex.
At Vally's place, we talk about everything. About the things that would really make us feel good. About sketches for Bethesda, a job at Rockville, throwing a party together in the very center of London. Everything falls into place when we're together. Time straightens out and gains – I don't know – some kind of meaning. According to the Pip-Girl – our artificial friend – this happens when Vally and I are both in the region of space dominated by our little wormhole. So close to the singularity inside it, that it finally makes the flow of our emotions stable. And lets us act in sync, protecting each other. I don't know how true that is. I've never been good at emotional relativity. But it's an explanation I like.
Ding (Ugh... it's Mom) «Will you be back for dinner?». «I'm staying at Vally's. We're going to the movies». Ding «Don't be late». «It's Saturday tomorrow». Ding «Don't be late». «Okay». I toss my phone aside.
One minute. Two minutes. Three minutes.
DING (...damn. Mom again!)
«Oh, can you sit still? It's going to look like shit...». «It's Mom stressing me out!». «So answer her, come on. I'll keep going after». She caps the mascara bottle. She pretends she's cool, but it's clear as day that she's annoyed. I've ditched her too many times by now. I look at the message. Now Mom's going to tell me to come home. Something's probably gone wrong that's made her upset and she'll want to hold on to me.
Ding Ding (Oh God!!! I'm coming, Mom!)
I pick up my phone. «Are you sleeping over at Vally's?». I check again. «Hey. Everything's fine here anyway. Are you sleeping over at Vally's?». It's all real. «Can I sleep over at your place?». And I hold the phone up to my girl's face as proof. «Hell, yes!!!». I text Mom right away. «hell yes! Vally says it's no problem». «We won't be late! Promise!! LY. LY.», I add, immediately, with a boatload of hearts. Ding «hell yes! love you!», replies Mom instantly.
No way... this really is a whole different universe.
«No way, Chiara... why are you stressing? Your mom suggested it! She's HAPPY. You're saying it's a different universe? I'm saying this is our universe». «So...». «So... deal with it!». Vally's eager to change the subject. With great ceremony, she parts the sea of makeup from the one of wax strips and unveils the surprise: two little tickets still without names. On the glossy side, black card stock glows pink with a touch of purple. On the back, tonight's date and the dry stamp of the Sin's inner club: a flower. «OMG. Are they letting us in?». Vally nods. Then, dead serious, she writes our names on top. «How did you do it?! God, I want to hook up with Mariano too!». Her eyes sparkle when she looks at me. «Babe, Mariano didn't give me these. I earned them myself». «And how'd you earn them? It's a super-exclusive DJ set. Invitation only». Then a thought hits me. «You're sure about this, right? You're not bringing me to a DJ escort, are you?». «LOL. What are you talking about? Look... if you're not coming, I'm going by myself. But then, there's no way you're crashing at mine again». I sniffle. Oh no! Oh no! She's right. This is our universe. «Don't even try it, okay? I'm coming. No way am I missing it, clear?», I declare solemnly. I take a deep breath, spread my arms like Jesus. «Bring on the mascara, sister. Ad Victoriam!». Vally cracks up. «You just gave me the perfect idea for a little touch-up to tonight's outfit».

Maynard brining back the titties for the Welcome to Rockville Festival in Florida lmao
In fact, in a recent interview on Steve-O's Wild Ride podcast, Keenan teased that he had some prosthetic breasts in his Amazon cart that he was ordering ahead of TOOL's upcoming live shows.
"I don't want to show you my Amazon cart right now, but I literally was buying … with everything going on right now, I was like, 'I gotta bring back the tits.' Because I used to wear 'em in '97," Keenan told Steve-O, implying that because of the turbulent political moment, it was high time to make a statement.

NEW YEARS DAY's ASH COSTELLO Opens Up About Pregnancy Loss, Divorce And Dating
In a new interview with The Mistress Carrie Podcast, NEW YEARS DAY singer Ash Costello opened up about the personal tragedy and trauma that she went through during and after the pandemic. She said in part (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): "I don't talk about that stuff publicly ever, really. We were announced [for this year's] Rockville. Welcome To Rockville is a really amazing Danny Wimmer festival. We're playing with MÖTLEY CRÜE and JUDAS PRIEST. And the last time we were on Rockville, we had to cancel — we had to cancel all of our festivals last summer. And I saw the comments, like, 'Oh, NEW YEARS DAY's gonna pull out again.' 'I don't trust they'll ever make it.' 'How come they always cancel?' And I just wanna reach out to those people, like, you have no idea the personal battles I was going through that summer."
She continued: "I had to really learn to prioritize myself and my health. I went through a pregnancy. I went through a pregnancy loss, which was really traumatic because it was like a prolonged — tons and tons of tests, and it just kept getting worse and worse. And it was like an all-summer stressful event. And then a divorce and moving to another state. And there's just so much that happened, and I just wanna reach out to those people and be, like, you have no idea what any artist you're idolizing is going through. We're all human beings facing battles you know nothing about. But that was a big lesson for me because I was never putting myself first, and it showed. So now I put myself first, and we're getting way more creative, which I'm excited about."
Elaborating on her pregnancy loss, Ash said: "I didn't know how common it was. And although common, still not fun.
"I had plans to be on that 'Kiss Of Death' tour [with ICE NINE KILLS and IN THIS MOMENT last fall] seven months pregnant. That was gonna be the plan. I was gonna rock it. I was actually really into the idea of it, even though I'm sure it would have been really hard, but I was gonna do it. And everyone was on board and everyone was supportive. And then it just didn't…
"Life gives you what you need and taketh away what it's supposed to take away, and looking back, everything happens as it should, even though it's still sucky, but everything goes exactly as it should," Costello philosophized. "And it's not something I talk about. It's how you said, it's important to have a community of women in the rock world talking about their real womanly issues that go on in our lives. I don't talk about this in general, but this is a girl's podcast. So I feel super comfortable talking about mental health and self-care and prioritizing yourself and not sacrificing your happiness and your mental health just to grind."
Ash also talked the difficulty in maintaining romantic relationships while being in a touring band. She said: "I'm not a dater. I've never been. I hate dating. I don't do it. I'm the kind of person where it's, like, 'All right, we get married or not, 'cause I've got somewhere to be.' I've always been like that. And if someone freaks out over that, I'm, like, 'Cool. You're not my person. Next.'
Addressing specifically the breakdown of her marriage, three and a half years after she tied the knot with Jered Boeving, Ash said: "It was harder to make a marriage work while being in a band with maybe a person who's not from the industry and doesn't necessarily understand… 'Cause I always said I'm not gonna date anyone in a band. I'm gonna go with someone in a totally different field. And then that also came with its cons as well, because it was a little hard for the other person to understand what it takes. And I'm a very friendly person. I've always been one of the guys, just because I've always been in bands. And so that can be a bit jarring for someone who maybe doesn't understand what the camaraderie is actually like while you're traveling and stuff like that. So definitely difficult to navigate. It's gonna take a very understanding person or just someone in the industry."
NEW YEARS DAY's fifth studio album, "Half Black Heart", arrived on March 1.

The Ledge #633: 1984
1984 was a magical year for your favorite podcast host. It was my senior year of college, and I had worked my way up the ranks to be the music director of KAUR. This was the perfect gig for me, along with the record store job I had in my spare time.
Of course, gigs like this would mean little if the music business was in a bad way. But it wasn't. It was one of the greatest years ever for the sort of material I loved. College rock was more popular than ever. British pop had moved away from the "New Romantics" garbage, and guitars were once again popular. Australia was again pumping out energetic rock and roll. And here in America, there was a grass roots movement that saw the beginnings of what would eventually become Americana, along with two labels, SST and Twin/Tone, that were regularly releasing classic records.
It's a holiday weekend, so why not celebrate the material that changed my life 40 years ago? These are all records I loved then, and still love today!
Also, please head to YouTube and subscribe to our channel - Public Domain Classics 888. We have over 500 classic films from over 110 years of releases!
