“I enjoy all my garden, because flowers come out at different times depending on the species. There’s always A different section of the garden that is blooming. I guess winter is the downtime but there are the primulas for winter which I love and that makes a great show in the garden.” Doreen, Woodbury NSW (Photograph by Anne Atherton)

Past Discussions ~ The Governor
Summary - Readers parents weren't exactly the best, neither did she have a great upbringing. The governor asks and she explains to him.
Warning - mentions of alcohol, abuse etc.
Word count - 506
The streets were filled with children's laughter, the occasional chatter of adults as they discussed their days ahead of them and the noise of Merle bossing some people around. It was a usual day in Woodbury, and (Y/n) and The Governor were going for a stroll around the community, linked hand in hand and walking alongside one another.
“Good morning (Y/n)” Doreen said as she leant over her small garden patch and watered the plants that laid in the ground. She looked up, moving her long grey hair behind her ear and smiled faintly.
“Good morning to you too, Doreen.” She replied, watching the older woman tend to the crops growing. “I hope the weather stays this nice for you all day.” She kept on walking, looking around and seeing children running around the street with one another, playing a game of chase. She grinned as one almost ran into her.
“Hey little one, don’t go running so fast or you’ll fall over!” She said as she watched the young girl continue on down the road after her friends. “It’s nice to see them grow up carefree in this world..”
The governor nodded in response. “Yeah, it’s better than out there at least.. Tell me, what was your childhood like?” He asked.
She tensed up, looking at him and swallowed hard before looking back down at the ground. She hadn’t had the best childhood to be exact. She was in care before she was eleven. “Well my dad used to beat my mom, she’d be covered in bruises and everything because of him. My uncle Tim, he finally called the cops on him and he got sent to prison.. I haven’t seen him since..”
“Oh, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t of brought it up, my apologies.” He said, breathing out slightly as he squeezed her hand reassuringly. He didn’t want her to say anymore than she felt comfortable doing so.
She shook her head at him then, “Oh no, it’s fine don’t worry.. Yeah, my mom was a mess after that, became an alcoholic and basically went to the verge of killing herself too.. She ended up in a hospital and well yeah, I guess the alcohol just got the better of her in the end.”
He nodded, they had soon ended up back at their house and he turned to her. “I’m sorry to hear that (Y/n).”
They walked inside and he went upstairs to run her a nice relaxing bath, hoping it would rid her of the awful memories she had told him. He lit some candles, put some bubble bath in and called her up with a faint smile. She saw it and just pecked his cheek before he left to give her her privacy, and as she bathed, he went downstairs to go make them both some dinner. He felt the need to now shower her in gifts and little surprises and treat her well, he didn’t want her being upset, that was the last thing that her ever wanted.
