I think and feel I am depressed.

Everything is just so slow and without energy. It feels like everything I do is dead - for I don’t feel anything to do it or just to carry on with it.

Only music keeps me going. As in. Whenever there is no music in my ear, I can’t work well. Sure, I can work. I can answer emails but to be “extra” is like saying that I should go out to take a five kilometer walk.

Or I am just tired? I don’t know. I do not feel myself anymore. I am not functioning like before. I used to enjoy playing DOTA 2. But now, whenever I open my Steam and open DOTA 2, a sudden burst of negative energy telling me to not play, do nothing and stare at the monitor for minutes is just a fucking fuck feeling, y’know?

One thing is for sure. I am not okay. And I think it is okay?? It is okay not to be okay?? I don’t know anymore. Feeling this for about a month now. My daily battery runs out fast. I don’t know what happened.

And hey, I am rooting for you. Yes, you reading this. For I know you also have burdens and weight on your shoulders. This too shall pass. Carry on. :)

Day 4 of My Active Life

Yesterday we began the discussion of “why?”  I dove into the deeply personal and tragic (in perhaps the most profound sense of the word as there is no greater tragedy than the daily acceptance of misery in a passive existence from a creature capable of choosing joy)

I’d like to dive deeper into a few moments that changed my life.  Simple conversations that helped me to design the person that I am in the process of creating. 

The first was a vivid memory I have with my brother.  We hadn’t always been close.  Or perhaps we had.  Trapped in a shared misery.  (But that’s beyond the scope of the current discourse).

We were at a park.  I was about to head off to college.  He had recently graduated.  I can’t tell you if he’d ever given me advice before.  But he gave me some of the best advice I’d ever received.  I was depressed.  I was alone. And it was my fault.  I knew it too.  I spent probably 10 hours a day playing video games.  Pokemon evolved into minecraft (pun not intended).  Which grew into Skyrim.  Soon I had over 2k hours spent in Dota 2.  

“When you go to college. For your first semester.  Promise me you won’t play video games alone.”

He didn’t ask me to abscond them entirely.  He simply asked me to avoid filling the hole in me and to use them as a tool.  

By the end of my first semester it was a running joke among my friends that “*insert my real name here* knows everybody.”  Because everywhere we’d go I’d walk up and introduce my closer friends to one of the dozens of people who I had met and made a careful and intentional choice to learn the name, face, major, and something personal about.  For the first time in my life I felt truly as if I wasn’t alone.  

A single decision.  Spawned from a promise to a brother who a part of me hated. And I was happier than I’d ever been.  

I’ve played videogames since (and at times had much worse hobbies). But I’ve never fallen back into that addiction.  Because the void.  The loneliness.  That had died.  I had killed it.  And I lived yet.  In fact… I lived a little more than I had before.

This is from the Silly Birds ending, corner of the massive screen.

Also sorta related but in the DOTA 2 Announcer pack The Narrator mentions eating shrimp daily, so there is no evidence against the idea that The Narrator’s just a flamingo with the ability to speak like a human.

Starfield, Baldur's gate 3, and Hogwarts Legacy Lead Steam's End Of Year Stats

While most of the major gaming companies released player-specific wrap-up stats earlier this month, today Valve decided to share some platform-wide statistics, highlighting the most played Steam games of the year. To avoid divulging specifics, the entries are not ranked individually but by category. The top twelve games are in the platinum section, the next 13 are in the gold section, the next 25 are in the silver section, and the last 50 are in bronze. Within those categories, however, entries are “randomly sorted,” so it’s unclear which specific game came out at the top of the heap in any specific category.

Still, it’s interesting data. Hogwarts Legacy, Baldur’s Gate 3, Starfield, and Sons of the Forest each make the platinum category of almost every list they qualify for. Baldur’s Gate 3 nearly completes a full sweep, but it doesn’t quite make the cut for the controller platinum category, and there isn’t a VR version. It’s also interesting to see The Witcher 3, a nearly nine-year-old game, reach the top of the Steam Deck charts, but maybe not as impressive as Half-Life, released in 1998, which has a spot on that same list.
