so tiktokers just have no idea about sufficient resting time or (whatever it's called) in film, huh?

most videos i see are folks focusing on themselves talking a mile a minute and when they finally cut to The Thing viewers are waiting to see there's not enough time for the brain to take in what the eyes are seeing before it jumps to the next visual or the video ends. i understand their brains running at doublespeed because of adhd or whathaveyou, but it's not just in the talking vids, it's in most vids:

like showing off their final outfit after showing the process and after spending 95% of the vid vamping, you gotta pause before the vid ends or changes frame in order to register what you're seeing. and travel vids don't rest long enough on scenic views. and informative sciencey and history vids have blink and you'll miss it flashes of imagery. folks talking about social and cultural issues using articles and graphs that are obscured by their heads and still too quick to read anyway.

but then there's take a tour with me vids and cooking vids that show things 3 steps ahead while the narrator is describing things that have come and gone, which is confusing af - and which hammers home not only that timing matters but that racing ahead with the visuals isn't something humans can process.

is it a genz/a lack of attention thing? or just folks competing for the algorithm thinking the faster the better? like those sped up radio and tv advertisements of overenthused actors yelling at you about the latest unmissable deal, like if they shove all the information into you as fast as possible you won't have time to lose interest.

opening that app gives me anxiety bc it's as if the world is suddenly set to doublespeed or set a few steps ahead of what's needed to absorb information and i can't keep up.

this one in particular, not even a struggle so much as an active, violent fight against going in this direction in my head. i feel the need to rush to make up for lost time. normal people don't need to be in this rush because they haven't lost the vast quantities of time i have, squandered or frittered them away. everyone else is on a normal timeclock rotation, mine is cut shorter though. my hourglass is running out of sand and i need to act fast, fast, fast, to get even halfway where it is i wish i want to be. this pressure, ironically, never fuels me to go faster (like sonic, hah), rather it immobilizes me into a fear where i get nothing done and just feel like i want to die because nothing gets done. i really need to get rid of this impulse, but i don't know how. i almost halfway wish my cptsd response will turn into flight/fight, so i can turn into a frenzied busyholic (one of the other negative modes this book rails against) and get the shit done that i need to in less time. i want to make more progress, faster, always. it's never enough. the people who are like that pay the price, the toll of being that way too, though. it's almost like that time is lost for good and i can't gain it back by going doublespeed. and i hate that. i can't come to grips with that just yet.

Oh man do you really think we can bullshit Avitus' warcrimes down to community service? That was an impressive law book!!! Aside from him, given that I'm pretty sure he's fucked anyways (and probably wants to be too lbh), let's go with... A relatively young Sara within the no-reapers AU, who's definitely being charged with vandalism after spray painting a dick on Alec's skycar on Avitus' suggestion about it being cathartic payback for him being an ass to her, which it is but still for which she's DEFINITELY being ordered to run errands as part of volunteering to help w/the elderly. But good news for her! The powers that be hear about this and, recognising who influenced her to do that, insist he helps her - which just means they get the list done at doublespeed courtesy of him hacking a taxi to keep hold of it (can't arrest him for that, plausible deniability, she never asked how he got hold of it and he's legally immune so suck it, Tizzy) and then go for ice cream; perfect way to discuss how to not get caught next time around.

i actually hadn't seen that post-- but yes, that's it exactly! (and beware, sociology/culture nerd moment incoming, youve unlocked my secret hidden chasms of interest)

i think a large part of all of this is that i did start on more solid ground than you-- you were working from the ground up to construct an image of a then-dead culture, while i had watched it unfold in real time. it's part of what i said in the tags of some post a while ago; if we posit that every relationship between two people is a dialect of its own, with communities speaking their own "languages", then the death of a community is the death of a language. of Course you weren't getting the information you were looking for, you didn't have the memories that it would have taken to ask about them!

and, examining the notes of the post that finally did blow up, that was exactly it. i keep seeing things like "they know idotsblr? theyre the real deal" and "what did gay castle do?", as well as other people going "oh yeah i remember that happening! that reminds me of..." etx etc. it's primarily a matter of having the base knowledge to know what to ask in the first place, which you were already working doublespeed to try to get after the fact. and let's be real here, you got ridiculously far for someone who was piecing things together, and i absolutely loved watching you form rada in real time-- it was, like i said before, like watching someone come in from the outside and give words to everything id noticed about communities getting pushed to the fringe, and the focus on boundaries.

(one thing that i am interested in that you never got the chance to get to, as lilyfreshwater said in the notes, is the rest of mcytblr. critblr and dlying were the fringe, but when examining only fringes, a hole is left where the main group is. the more i hear from people, the more i think that the biggest pieces of the puzzle have been sitting in plain sight, in all their difficult-to-archive glory: the discords, groupchats, individual friend groups, and the odd way that popular mcytblr tumblrs seem to be almost canonized in the fandom.)

and, of course, i just like having my favorite time period all in one place to look at; it makes me happy to have a little slice of it on the blog, and to revisit that time in my life from a considerably less manic standpoint.

Thanks for the followup. I mostly agree -- and again I could never regret putting together RADA -- but there are a few things I'd like to disagree/clarify:

Although truthing/criticizing/etc. was on the decline when I first started posting and reblogging in April 2021, I don't think OG 2020 mcytblr was never totally dormant or dead. I focused on Dreamlying because they were still posting by the time I joined, and that presence of activity was enough for me to start thinking and wondering.

I agree my perspective would have benefited from first-hand experiences with mcytblr 2020, but I don't think interpreting the resulting counterculture/fringe necessarily required I be a part of it, or have had first-hand experience with it. In fact, it was only until I had been blocked by a regular mcytblr mutual 1 or 2 months after publicly interacting with the fringe that I realized -- and quite painfully -- I wasn't part of the mainstream anymore.

This in turn is why I didn't discuss much of regular mcytblr. Structurally, it had become so large to be self-sustaining, and possibly self-documenting. But personally it was also because (I was the last one to realize) I had crossed the floor the first time I ever reblogged georgesoot, or warpedfungusonastick, or reese, or fruityranboo.
