EXPLORE WITH TZ : x-hunting in qilou solo COUNT : 581 words
since he was alone and figured footage of him just walking won’t do much good, he spoke his thoughts aloud as he walked down qilou old street with the camera man next to him. “so daeho-hyung and i’s letter is x--which is easy to remember because it’s just a cross, like this” he made a large x with his arms. “now what starts with x...this is hard, i can only think of an x-ray.” he decided that rather than trying to figured out every word that started with x, he would just keep on the move and hope he came across something with an x on it. he and the staff assigned to him walked around the street for a bit, chatting and trying to find an x of some sort--dowoon was getting desperate.
“ooh this is an x!” seeing something in the distance, he ran straight towards the item, leaving the cameraman in the dust. once the camera man caught up with dowoon, he presented the item with glee and pride. it was a sign that read, xylophones 50% off in english, at the front of a small music store. he then started messing with the sign, noticing the tight screws on it. “it’s kinda on there tight--so do i take a picture, or i guess i could ask if i could borrow the sign for a bit? the owner might not mind.” he peered into the store to get a read on who was attending the store. that was when the manager next to the cameraman started to giggle. “what--i need the x right? we’re supposed to find the x... and dowoon look confused. the manager then re-explained the rules, he had to buy the item for one and “OOOOH find an item with a name that starts with x...i see.” he scratched the back of his head, laughing but feeling ashamed for the mistake.
“well, i guess i’ll keep looking...” he took all of about five steps away from the store, before he remembered the sign itself. “OH! we can get a xylophone!” once again he laughed but had a look of shame on his face as he opened the door into the shop. “this is why the hyungs don’t usually leave me alone” he joked towards the camera.
he decided to take a moment to look around the shop. when he still had the time, he would spend much of a day practicing piano, so he went straight to that small section and played a bit. he played mary had a little lamb for the camera, as well as the part of type zero’s song, before the dawn that he could remember (which wasn’t a lot), “i’m out of practice--i hope my old piano teacher isn’t watching...sorry choi-seonsaengnim.” ashamed seemed to be the emotino of the day for him. he continued to browse around the shop. it wasn’t anything crazy elaborate or large, a couple pianos, guitars, and drums on display--probably family owned if he had to guess.
he got to the percussion section and went straight towards the xylephones. “jackpot!!!” he exclaimed. there was a box marked sale and filled with loose damaged or lost xylephone keys. he figured that had to count right?? he got as many as he could get--plus a xun, because he thought it seemed cool. with that, he thanked the shop owner and realize he had to race back to the meeting spot to tally the result--he really hoped he won.

<- Chapter Thirteen - Chapter Fifteen ->
“HYUNJIN-AH, WHAT AM I going to do?”  Eunbyeol lamented, throwing herself onto the black vinyl floor of the dance practice room.  “How is it that of all people I just had to be paired with the one person I hate the most?”
“You hate Felix?  Wait... you know Felix?”  Hyunjin blinked in surprise as he plugged his phone into the sound system to play music so they could warm up.
“As if you told me that you knew him!”
“It never came up.”  Hyunjin shrugged.
“I guess I didn’t say anything either, but like come on!  How could you not talk about your other friends with me?”  Eunbyeol lifted her head off the floor to look up at him.  “Are we not best friends anymore?”
“What?”  Hyunjin turned to her with a gasp, his hand reaching up to clutch his heart.  “How dare you even suggest that!  My own best friend assumes I don’t devote all of my waking time to her!”
“I don’t know man, you’re the one not telling me about your other friends.”  Eunbyeol rolled her eyes and set her head back down on the floor and ignoring Hyunjin’s drama.  “It’s not like I enjoy talking about the person I hated in high school.”
“You hated him?”  Hyunjin quirked an eyebrow up at her.  He pretended like his gaze didn’t instinctively linger on her legs for a few extra seconds before turning back to his phone.  “I don’t think I’ve ever met someone who hates Felix.”
“Really?  I’m the only one?”  Eunbyeol groaned, covering her face with her hands.
“I think so, Byeol-ah.  He’s pretty popular in all of his friend groups and extracurriculars and stuff.  Whatever he did or whoever he was in high school, it certainly can’t be that bad.”
“Honestly, I’m over it.  He just gives off the wrong vibe, you know?  I can’t believe I have to spend all this fucking time with him and hold his hand or look into his eyes or some shit.”
“You have to hold his hand?”  Hyunjin perked up at this and tossed another glance over his shoulder.  He hoped his tone of voice didn’t give away his alarm.  He didn’t like the idea of some other guy holding hands with Eunbyeol properly before he could.
“Unless you can find something else to do that isn’t as fucking miserable with your partner, whatever his name is-”
“Dowoon.”
“Sorry?”
“My partner.  His name is Dowoon.”
“Right, sorry, Dowoon... then maybe I can get out of all the shit I have to do with Felix.  I looked over the list and like ninety percent of them are all things I want to do with you!”
Hyunjin didn’t respond while he scrolled through his playlist for the perfect song to warm up to.  He kept quiet mostly to conceal the blush burning in his cheeks.  Eunbyeol stared at the ceiling fan over her head spinning in lazy circles.  She doubted very much that it would do anything for the airflow.  After a few more minutes of silence an upbeat, peppy song filled the room.  Eunbyeol groaned and threw her arm over her eyes, hoping for a few more seconds of peace before the work began.
Hyunjin made his way over to where his friend laid on the floor and crouched next to her.  Eunbyeol’s breathing remained slow and steady and for a moment he wondered if she’d fallen asleep.  It wouldn’t be the first time.  Hyunjin reached out and gently poked her forearm.  She didn’t move.  Next he poked the palm of her hand, then her shoulder.
“Byeol-ah, come on.”  Hyunjin whined, poking her shoulder a few times in rapid succession.  Eunbyeol could practically see his lower lip stuck out into a pout. “We have to stretch.”
“No!  I want to take a nap.”  Eunbyeol protested, turning her head away from him.
Hyunjin poked her a few more times on her shoulder before venturing lower to her waist.  There, he focused his efforts on tickling the exposed skin where her sports tank had ridden up.  Eunbyeol shrieked and tried to roll away from him but Hyunjin’s slim yet muscular form hoved over her, tickling her relentlessly.  Any attempts to escape his grip would be futile had she even tried.  He poked his fingers to her sides and tugged on her arm, trying to pull it away from her eyes.  None of his attempts seemed to work.
“Come on, get up!”  Hyunjin urged, continuing to poke and tickle any and all exposed skin.  He couldn’t help the grin that rose onto his lips from watching her wiggle around underneath him.  “We have to get to work!”
“Jinnie, no!  Stop!”  Eunbyeol’s breath heaved from her exertions.  Hyunjin immediately pulled his hands away.  He sat down next to her and laughed as he watched her fight for breath.  She laid there for a few more minutes with her arm slung over her eyes.
“Alright, let’s go.”  Hyunjin rose to his feet and waited for her to respond.  After a moment, he decided to take things into his own hands.
Eunbyeol thought for a second he’d given up or had started stretching without her.  However, only seconds later Hyunjin grabbed her hand and pulled, urging her to get up.  She didn’t move for a few seconds before sighing and letting her feet find the ground.  Hyunjin pulled her up easily with one hand until they stood facing one another while the music played behind them.
Instantly, Eunbyeol let out a soft gasp at the sudden proximity.  Hyunjin gazed down at her, his eyes wide with the same realization.  His large hand enveloped hers comfortably with their palms pressed together warmly.  It certainly was not a secret that Hwang Hyunjin was hot.  Hyunjin’s features were soft and boyish, almost pixie-like.  His black hair looked soft and Eunbyeol’s fingers itched to run through his long, thick strands.  They were currently pulled back by a deep burgundy ribbon, keeping all of the flyaways out of his face.  Though his soft face was sharply contrasted with a few angles in his jaw and cheekbones, Eunbyeol could imagine him as a baby.  His plush mouth, however, was definitely not baby-like and she did not think about what it would feel like on hers.  Not at all.  Not even a little bit.  She didn’t think of her best friend as anything other than just that: her best friend.
Not at all.
Hyunjin suddenly cleared his throat and dropped her hand.  Right away all of the atmosphere in the room disappeared.  Or maybe it was Eunbyeol’s throat closing.  Either way, Hyunjin turned towards the mirrors and began to tilt his head from side to side, exposing his neck to her.  Eunbyeol took a shameless moment to stare at him and wondered why the hell she couldn’t grow a goddamn backbone and just tell him.  In the end, she didn’t want to ruin a good thing.  She followed his lead and tilted her head back and forth in time with his.
“Have you come up with some songs for our first duet assignment in a couple weeks?”  Eunbyeol inquired innocently, hoping to cover up any and all traces of the last few minutes.
“What do you take me for?”  Hyunjin scoffed as he began to roll his neck in slow circles.  Eunbyeol followed his lead.  Hyunjin reached into the pocket of his sweats and produced a carefully folded piece of notebook paper and passed it to her without missing a beat.
“Have I ever told you that you’re the best partner of all time?”  Eunbyeol carefully unfolded the page to peer at the list.  “You also have impeccable music taste.”
“What can I say?”  Hyunjin made a huge show of tossing his imaginary hair over his shoulder.  “I’m the greatest.”
“Oh, I don’t know about ‘Senorita’.  I think everyone else will want to do that song, too.”
“I know, but don’t you remember that night we went out to Starcatcher a few weeks ago?  That song came on and I swear to god even Minho was salivating watching us.  I think we could make it so unique.”
“I love the song and all, but I don’t know about doing our assignment on it.  We could choreograph our own if you want, though.”  Eunbyeol offered him a sly smile in the mirror as they raised their arms over their head before bending over in half.  Even though he only saw it for a second, Hyunjin caught on anyway.
“You just want to be in another one of my videos for YouTube.”  Hyunjin rolled his eyes so hard, Eunbyeol could practically see them rolling to the back of his skull.
“Come on, don’t you remember how many views you got when we posted our duet of ‘Best Friend’?  Everyone loved our choreography!”
“You just want the portfolio addition.  I see right through you, Cha Eunbyeol.”
“As if you don’t!  C’mon, I got like a thousand new subscribers overnight.  Not to mention, my TikTok following skyrocketed.”  Eunbyeol slowly straightened her spine and they gracefully moved into the next stretch.
“Okay, before we decide on that, I want to know your ideas for our duet project.”  Hyunjin huffed decidedly.
A smirk rose onto Eunbyeol’s lips and she briefly abandoned stretching one of her arms to reach into the side pocket of her leggings for her own folded piece of paper.  She reached out with that hand and slipped the page between Hyunjin’s backwardly outstretched hand.  His long fingers curled around the paper immediately and he quickly unfolded it before bending back into the stretch.  He hummed and mused over her song choices for a few seconds before immediately standing up straight and turning to her with a mock-hurt expression written on his features.  His lips parted into an ‘O’ and his hand found its place on his ever-wronged heart.
“You bitch, you want to do ‘Senorita’, too!  Why are you being such a hardass?”  Hyunjin’s fake scowl made a giggle bubble up in Eunbyeol’s throat.  Hyunjin could insult her all day long every day and she would know that he didn’t mean a single word.
“Because...”  Eunbyeol shifted into their next stretch and he was quick to copy her.  “It’s fun to be mean to you.”
“I hate you.”
“No, you don’t.”
He didn’t.
As far as Eunbyeol was concerned, he was probably the best thing that could have possibly happened to her during her freshman year intro dance class.  They met on the very first day of class and hit it off like they’d been friends for years.  With Hyunjin, everything was easy.  Dancing came to him like he was born to do it and with how skilled he was already Eunbyeol could easily believe it.  They weren’t dance partners at first, since most of their first semester focused on basic steps and theory.  In fact, they weren’t partners properly until their second semester.
Eunbyeol never once in her life thought that sparks flying was a real thing.  Perfect chemistry with someone else simply didn’t exist and she was sure that she would never experience it.  At least, not until she danced with Hyunjin.  It was like he knew each and every one of her movements several counts before she actually did it.  It’s not like they were improv pros or anything (the bruise on Hyunjin’s left foot from where Eunbyeol stepped it all semester was proof enough of that), but they grew to learn each other’s dancing styles quickly.  With all the time they spent together practicing, it wasn’t long before they started spending time outside of the studio.  Aside from Jiho, Eunbyeol was sure she’d never clicked with another person quite as well as she clicked with him.
The pair stretched for a few more minutes while the music cycled through whatever playlist Hyunjin put on.  Eunbyeol sighed happily as her muscles tensed and relaxed into each new stretch.  Sometimes, the stretches at the beginning and end of practice were the best parts. Nothing was more relaxing than releasing all of that pent-up tension.  Hyunjin glanced over at her and grinned.  Nothing was quite as healing as dancing with your best friend.  How did she get so lucky?
“Alright,”  Eunbyeol stretched her arms over her head as Hyunjin made his way over to his phone to turn the music off.  “What ideas do you have?  I don’t remember everything we did.”
“It’s not my fault you had that fifth drink and can’t remember!”  Hyunjin teased.  “But I was thinking of something along the same vein as that one cover that May J Lee did.  Like one of us does the first verse and chorus, the other does the second, and then we combine them.  The idea is to show how our dance styles complement each other right?”
“Right, I agree, but I think we should combine on the second chorus.  Here’s what I’m thinking... let’s choreograph the chorus so our moves could be stand-alone for the first chorus and build from there.  I had an idea for the second eight-count, you know the part when he sings...”
Eunbyeol and Hyunjin jumped right into choreographing.  As Hyunjin showed her his ideas, some of that drunken night at Starcatcher came back to her.  Not all of it, but just enough to get what he was saying.  It wasn’t long before they found an easy rhythm, moving with one another easily as if they’d been doing this for years.  Hyunjin effortlessly countered her every move and even predicted her almost stepping on his foot (again) and jumped out of the way just in time.
She watched their bodies move in the mirror and it was almost surreal.  Hyunjin’s eyes were glued to the mirror, watching as a routine came to life before him.  Eunbyeol also couldn’t believe it.  No matter how many times she and Hyunjin worked together, Eunbyeol had to be reminded every time just how talented he was.  Hyunjin’s long limbs were completely under his control from the very tips of his strong hands to his toes.  He towered several inches over her, which made their dynamic all that much more interesting.  Somehow she wondered how he walked around because his legs were slim and sometimes she wondered if he even had a waist.  However, due to his active lifestyle his muscles were firm to the touch so he wasn’t about to wither away anytime soon.  Hyunjin didn’t need the ego boost, so Eunbyeol kept her thoughts about his physique to herself.
The pair experimented with different moves for so long that she forgot to check the time.  A common instance, seeing as the texts building up from Jiho weren’t as alarmed as they used to be when she and Hyunjin first started doing this.  For now, Eunbyeol’s phone sat forgotten on top of her backpack.  The clock over the door counted the minutes away.  The sun dipped slightly lower in the sky, casting a golden glow over the campus and long shadows stretching over the ground.  Eunbyeol and Hyunjin kept their eyes on their reflections in the mirror as they danced and created.
After a while, Hyunjin bounded over to his phone to turn on the song before hurrying back to her to try their new choreography with the music again.  They hoped that their timing would be right this time.  Their thin workout clothes clung to their skin.  Eunbyeol pretended not to notice his glistening skin when he made his way back over and took his natural place by her side.  He counted their steps under his breath as they danced, just to make sure both of them were on time.  After only a few hours it was far from perfect but on its way to something beautiful.
Even after all that time, the pair only came up with the first half of the chorus but as soon as they came to a stop, with Hyunjin behind her with both hands on her waist, a wide smile lit up his face.  His eyes turned into little crescent moons and Eunbyeol couldn’t stop herself from turning in his grasp and throwing her arms around his neck. Hyunjin’s hands were quick to move from her waist to wrap around her torso and pull her into him.  They ignored the stickiness of their sweaty skin and damp clothes in favor of hugging.  She didn’t even mind that his long black hair stuck to him and droplets of sweat fell onto her shoulders.  Eunbyeol giggled brightly when Hyunjin lifted her feet off the ground.
“This looks so good already, Jinnie!  We’re gonna get a good grade for sure.”
“That’s all I am to you?  A good grade?”  Hyunjin lowered her feet to the ground but didn’t let her go.
“Yes, but you’re the best grade.”  Eunbyeol smiled innocently up at him and he threw his head back and laughed, bringing a hand up to ruffle her hair a little bit.
“I can accept this.  You wanna go get bubble tea?”  Hyunjin offered.
“Do I ever!  I’m starving, too.  We should probably record this first and then do our ending stretches, though.”
“Come on, let’s just go!”  Hyunjin whined, his face dropping into a pout.  He stuck his lip out at her and she almost caved.
“We have to record it so we can remember it!  Also, you’ll just whine at me when you wake up all sore tomorrow.”
“Always the voice of reason.”  He rolled his eyes dramatically before releasing her from his grip.  His hands grazed over her back and to her waist before dropping off  her completely.  “Whose phone should we use?”
“We can use mine.”  Eunbyeol dropped her grip from around him and started for her phone but a voice from the door stopped her in her tracks.
“I could record it for you!”
Her heart stopped in her chest and she gasped, turning to catch a glance at who might have spoken.  Park Jimin, a senior in the dance major, leaned against the door frame with his arms crossed over his chest.  A smile stretched across his soft features and he tilted his head at her.  He stared at her openly, almost not even seeing Hyunjin until his protective hand came up to cover her shoulder.  Eunbyeol relaxed, seeing it was just her friend who was the TA for her dance theory class last semester.
“Ah, Jimin-sunbae, you scared me!”  Eunbyeol smiled politely.  Hyunjin squeezed her shoulder but she brushed him off.  “That’s nice of you but we can take care of it.”
“I thought you didn’t bring your phone stand with you to school today.”  Jimin reminded her.
“Oh, I’m sure I did...”  Eunbyeol made her way over to her backpack and duffle bag to dig through her stuff.  She unzipped her duffle bag to rummage around, finding her ballet shoes, another change of activewear, binding tape, her foot roller for her arches, a circle light but no... phone stand.  “I could have sworn I packed it this morning.”
“It’s okay, I can hold your phone and record you guys.  I have pretty steady hands.  You looked great!”  Jimin stepped into the room, keeping his eyes on Eunbyeol and stretching out his hand for her phone.
“We can take care of it ourselves.”  Hyunjin spoke, but Jimin waited for Eunbyeol’s approval.
“Oh sure, thank you!”  Eunbyeol, thoroughly persuaded, opened the camera app and passed him her phone.  “I really appreciate it.”
“Byeol-ah, we can just prop it up on the barre.”  Hyunjin suggested.
“Come on, it’ll just take a second.  Go start the music.”
“I...”  Hyunjin watched Jimin out of the corner of his eye as he moved to stand in the front of the room, holding the camera up to gauge lighting.  “Fine.  But make sure to bring your stand tomorrow, yeah?”
“I will!”  Eunbyeol promised before heading to the center of the room to take her spot.  Hyunjin rolled his eyes and made his way over to his phone to set up the music.  “Thank you, Jimin-sunbae!”
“Always happy to help out a friend.”  He paused a second, glancing over at Hyunjin before continuing.  “Are you coming to the welcoming party for the freshman?”
“When is that?  I haven’t been to the common room this semester yet.”
“We have some conflicts for the next couple of weekends but it’ll be on the third week of the semester on a Friday.  Can you make it?”  A hopeful glance flashed across Jimin’s face but it was gone moments later.
“In three weeks?  Strange time to have a party.  Don’t we usually do them the first week of school?  I don’t know yet, but I'll have to see what Hyunjin is doing.”  Eunbyeol looked over at Hyunjin.
“Oh, I think he’s going to be in Daegu that weekend for a showcase.  I thought you were going to go to that, too, but I looked at the list and didn’t see your name.”  Jimin’s easy smile returned, spanning across his young features.  “We had to postpone it because something happened at the restaurant we usually go to so we couldn’t get a reservation for a couple weeks.  I dunno, someone was saying something about a fire?”
“Oh... I’m not sure I’m going to go if he’s not.  I’ll have to let you know.”
“Sure!  Just let me know.  I hope you’ll be able to make it.”
Eunbyeol’s muscles suddenly relaxed when Hyunjin signaled for Jimin to start recording.  She hadn’t realized how tense she’d gotten.  She figured she’d just been dancing for too long.  Hyunjin hurried to Eunbyeol’s side to start the choreography.  They got into position and waited for the second chorus to begin.  Eunbyeol watched herself in the mirror, trying to focus on that and not the camera trained or Hyunjin’s hand snaking along her waist from behind.  She tried especially hard not to focus on the blush creeping up the back of her neck or her thighs clenching in anticipation.  Hyunjin often affected her like this and she figured that it was part of why they were so good together... as dance partners.
When the chorus started, the pair of them started to dance, falling into it and into each other easily.  Even though they’d only just started working on the choreography, her body remembered it as if it was as easy as breathing.  Hyunjin’s body rolled and swayed with hers and she found that she didn’t need to watch the mirror anymore, she only needed to watch him.  The moment their eyes connected, Eunbyeol’s knees almost gave out but Hyunjin’s hands were on her waist to guide her into the next move before she knew it.  His eyes bore into her intensely, letting the message of the song shimmer in them.  His lips parted slightly and Eunbyeol had to look away from him, faking a sudden need to check her movements in the mirror.
Eunbyeol’s eyes found Jimin’s immediately and her lips parted in shock.  She’d forgotten that he was even there.  Something about dancing with Hyunjin made the outside world slip away.  Her heart skipped a beat to find that Jimin was already staring at her.  Hyunjin’s grip on her waist tightened the moment their choreography ended.  The song continued playing over the speakers but Hyunjin made no move to let go of her.  Jimin’s smile stretched over his face once more when the song ended and he tapped on the screen of her phone to end the recording.
“Great job guys!  You choreographed all of that in just a few hours?”  Jimin stepped forward to hand Eunbyeol’s phone back to her, but Hyunjin took it instead.
“Yeah, we did.”  Hyunjin responded on behalf of Eunbyeol.
“That’s incredible!  I can’t wait to see the finished result!”  Jimin shot Eunbyeol a wink and she responded with a weak smile.  Hyunjin’s grip on her tightened for another second before he had to move away to pause the song.  Jimin took the opportunity to close in.  “Listen... I knew you were good, but not that good!  I’m impressed.”
“Thanks.”  Eunbyeol managed, her gaze drifted past him to where Hyunjin stood in the corner, messing with his phone.
“So, listen.  For the last couple years I’ve been interning at Hybe Entertainment and I’m pretty sure they’re gonna offer me a job when I graduate because they like me so much.  I was thinking... You really have a lot of talent.  If you wanted, I could get you an internship there.  I could talk to my manager and get your resume through if you apply.”
“Sorry, Hybe?”  Eunbyeol’s eyes widened and her already pounding heart began to hurt, remembering him talking about it during class last semester.  The prestigious company produced so many of the top idols in the Kpop industry and their choreography was notorious for being difficult.  Their backup dancers often went on to be in other idol groups or get other good jobs in the industry.  Except...  “I didn’t know they accepted women into the company?”
“Well, maybe not female trainees, but they would accept you onto the dance team to at least be a backup dancer.  Even if it’s not what you do forever, Hybe would look really good on your resume.”  Jimin wiggled his eyebrows.
“Really?”  Eunbyeol raised an eyebrow at him incredulously.  “You could get me an internship?”
“I could.  It would be so easy.”
“That would be incredible!  I mean... I don’t know if I could fit it in between my job and school but it would be so amazing.”  Eunbyeol grinned in spite of herself, her mind swirling with images of working in such a high-profile company.  It almost sounded too good to be true.
“Come on, just apply and give it a shot.  I’ll pull some strings and get you a spot, hm?”  Jimin urged with a wink.
“You could seriously do that?”
“Of course!  They’re recruiting interns right now, so you have a good chance.  Think about it and let me know, yeah?”  Jimin reached out and patted her shoulder.  “I’ll see you later!  Text me about dinner, okay?”
“I will!”  Eunbyeol waved as he started towards the door.  He shot her one more wink before slinking out of the practice room.
“What the hell did he want?”  Hyunjin asked immediately, his voice filling the room a little too loudly.
“He was just being nice, Jinnie.”  Eunbyeol sighed, getting in position in front of the mirror to do their post-dance stretches.  “He wants me to apply for an internship at Hybe.”
“You mean his internship that he never shuts up about?”  Hyunjin rolled his eyes and started his playlist and joined her to stretch.  “And he wants you to join?”
“Yeah, he says I’m talented enough to get in!  Isn’t that crazy?”  Eunbyeol grinned.  “I think it would be so cool to at least audition there, don’t you?  Hey, we could apply together!  They’re hiring interns right now!”
“I’d rather walk over a pit of hot coals than audition for Hybe, to be honest.”
“Really?  Is it really that bad?”
“Not necessarily, just not my ideal company, that’s all.”  Hyunjin shrugged as they started to roll their necks in circles.
“Alright, then I’ll look into applying myself!”  Eunbyeol’s heart fluttered as she spoke.  Hyunjin shot her a grin.
“Hey, guys,” a new voice came from the door but neither of the dancers budged.  Eunbyeol glanced up to see one of the seniors in the major but she wasn’t too close to him.  Luckily, Hyunjin knew him well.
“Yeah, Minho-hyung, what is it?”  Hyunjin kept looking at the mirror and not at the cat-eyed senior at the door.
“Are you guys almost done?  My studio time starts in less than ten minutes.”
“Yeah, we’re doing our closing stretches.  You’re welcome to join us if you want.”  Hyunjin offered.
Eunbyeol glanced over at their senior, who was still in his street clothes with his dance bag slung over his shoulder.  His arms were crossed over his chest and he rolled his eyes and Hyunjin’s answer.  His face was set and stoic.  For a second, Eunbyeol worried he was upset.  Instead, he waved a hand dismissively.
“I still have to change.  You guys better be gone by the time I come back.”
With that, Minho turned away from the door and disappeared from their line of sight.  Eunbyeol glanced back at the mirror, where Hyunjin was looking at her instead of where Minho-sunbae had just disappeared.
“Where do you want to go for dinner?”
Hyunjin glanced over at her as the gears turned in her head for a second.  Then, her eyes lit up and she turned to him with a glint in her eye that made his heart flip flop in his chest.  Even with her hair messy from dancing and reeking of sweat, she looked beautiful and like the only person he wanted to spend his day with.  She opened her mouth to speak and he said it with her.
“Ddeokbokki.”
~!~!~!~!~!~
“HYUNJIN-AH, WHY ARE you late again?”  Chan didn’t even glance up from his computer when Hyunjin entered the studio and crashed heavily onto the brown leather sofa along the back wall.
Chan, a music production major and a year or two ahead of Hyunjin and everyone else in their friend group, kept his eyes glued to his computer and barely acknowledged Hyunjin until he sat down.  He pulled one of his earphones off his ear so he could hear both Hyunjin and Minho, who was in the recording booth and singing a new song that Chan wrote.  Hyunjin hauled himself off the couch and made his way to where Chan sat and found a few pages of sheet music with his name written along the top.  He took it and returned to his seat, sinking into the cool fabric.
“Dance practice went over again.”  His usual excuse, and it was usually true.  Chan, however, was too smart.
“You went to dinner with Miss Dance Partner again?”  Chan finally glanced over his shoulder to smile at his friend.  Hyunjin fought back a smile, but he couldn’t keep it at bay for long.
“Yeah.”
“Ooooh, Hyunjinnie is in loooove!”  Changbin, the shortest of the group and a music technology junior, cooed from his place in his beanbag chair in the corner.  Hyunjin coughed dramatically and turned his face away so the other boys couldn’t see the flush warming his cheeks.
“I’m gonna have to have a talk with this girl and lecture her on letting you go early so we can record.”  Chan shook his head, but judging from the smile on his face, Hyunjin figured he didn’t really mean it.
“Yeah, you still have to introduce us, don’t think I’ve forgotten!  From the videos on YoutTube, your dance partner looks hot as fuck and its a crime to keep that from me!”  Changbin thrust an accusing finger at Hyunjin.
“I know, I know!”  Hyunjin raised his hands in defense.  “I asked her to tag along today but she got a message from her acting partner and got into a bad mood, so she went home instead.”
“Her acting partner?  Wait, you didn’t get to be her partner?  I’m surprised the planet is still spinning!”
“Yeah, she was late to class.  She was listening to that radio show she likes so much.”  Hyunjin rolled her eyes at the thought and suddenly found himself glad that the host couldn’t hear him.  “So, she got paired with someone she didn’t like and I got paired with some kid named Dowoon.”
“How will you ever survive this semester without her as your theater partner!”  Changbin lamented and threw his head back, covering his eyes with his arm.  “I shall begin arranging your funeral promptly.”
“Shut up, Changbin-hyung, seriously.  It’s not that bad.  I’m disappointed but it is what it is.”
“Very mature for someone who literally was drunk crying a few weeks ago about how much you liked her.”
“Hey!  I thought we agreed not to talk about that!”  Hyunjin sat up, searching his immediate vicinity for something to chuck at Changbin.  He found a random crumpled receipt stuck between the cushions and used that.  Changbin didn’t even flinch when it bounced harmlessly off his bicep.
“Our lovesick Hyunjinnie is so cute!”  Changbin’s smile made Hyunjin dive back into the cushions for something else to throw.  “I mean, I agree.  She looked cute in that dress on Jeongin’s Outfit of the Day Intsa post.  What, that blue dress?”
“She did.”  Hyunjin paused, his lip sticking out in a pout.  He paused.  “And the dress was pink.”
“Guys, come on.  At least look at the sheet music I spent all night notating for you?”  Chan muttered over his shoulder.
The two younger boys apologized to the eldest and turned their attention onto the music.  The song that Chan had written was, as usual, incredible.  Hyunjin was always so flattered that Chan, Changbin, and Jisung liked to include his voice in their songs.  He thought he was a better dancer than a singer, but since he started working with Chan and the others on their musical endeavors his voice had improved so much.  This time, it looked like Hyunjin would be rapping more than singing and he wasn’t complaining.
Eventually, Chan okayed Minho to leave the studio and the boy inside took off his headphones and made his way into the room.  Minho was older than Hyunjin by a year or so and he often had a hard resting-face that made him look consistently angry.  The later into the day it got and the more tired he became, the more his resting-bitch-face unnerved Hyunjin to no end.  Which is why the moment Minho’s tired eyes landed on the spot where Hyunjin sat on the couch he sprang to sit on the other side.  Minho wasn’t exactly mean or rude, especially not to Hyunjin, but he never wanted to be on the receiving end of his anger.  He’d seen it once before and he never wanted to see it again.
Minho collapsed onto the couch and lolled his head back and closed his eyes.  It wasn’t terribly late in the day, but he’d been up since before dawn and he was looking forward to resting.  Hyunjin admired Minho for many reasons, including the fact that he was double majoring in dance and music production.  Because of that, Hyunjin was inspired to double major himself.  Despite the exhausting schedule, he was glad that he could indulge his two greatest talents and hobbies.
When Hyunjin wasn’t in the dance studio with Eunbyeol, he spent the rest of his time in the art studio covered in paint from head to toe.  Even now he knew he needed to shower and wash his hair well because he accidentally got some blue in it earlier.  As long as images and colors and art left his fingertips, he didn’t care what medium he used.  Pencils, oils, markers, Hyunjin loved it all.
“Hyunjin-ah...”  Minho’s tired voice came from the other side of the couch.  “Will you pass me my water?”
“Sure, Hyung.”  Hyunjin glanced around and found Minho’s distinctive yellow water bottle on the floor under the coffee table.  He passed it to his friend wordlessly.
“Is Felix here with the coffee yet?  I’m exhausted.”  Minho let out a long yawn and didn’t open his eyes to take a drink of his water.
“Do you see any coffee?”  Changbin’s eyes were also starting to droop.  “Felix and Jisung have been gone for almost an hour.  I’m gonna kill them.”
“Jisung has been trapped in this studio since lunch.  I’m jealous that he’s even getting a break.”  Chan spoke up from his place at the computer.  He lowered his headphones to rest around his neck.
“Why don’t you take one, Hyung?”  Minho suggested.  “Hyunjin needs a little more time to look over the music before his turn in the studio, right?  For the love of all that is holy, go take a walk.  Use the bathroom.  Step out into the sun for a few seconds before it sets completely.  Touch some grass.”
“Touch some grass-”  Chan muttered along with Minho, “You know I’d love to do that but-”
“The work comes first.  Got it, got it.”
“Once Hyunjin and Felix have their turns in the studio then I can finally finish piecing this song together.”  Chan explained.
“Wait, Seungmin and Jeongin have already been here?”  Changmin looked up from his sheet music.  “I didn’t see them today.”
“Yeah, we popped into the studio last night for two hours or so.  Seungmin really only needed one take but we took three of them.  He was really adamant.”  Chan chuckled at the thought, clicking through a few pages and pulling up his recording.  “This was his first take.”
Seungmin’s airy, romantic voice filled the studio.  The raw vocals filled the room and Hyunjin’s eyes widened at the sound.  Seungmin, as usual, was a powerhouse.  He sang the words beautifully and without a single error.  Even his breathing sounded perfect.  He only had a few lines, so the recording was over too quickly.  Once it ended, all of the boys applauded even though no one was there to hear them.
“Jeez, and he wanted two more takes?”  Minho gasped out.
“He wanted four but I made him go home.”  Chan grinned.
“Where did we find this kid, again?”  Changnbin’s question was rhetorical but Chan answered anyway.
“He was part of Jisung’s friend group in high school.  Pretty much all of Jisung’s friends are just as talented.”
“You say that as if we’re not all friends now.”  Hyunjin chuckled, smiling fondly at the thought of the friendships he had with each of the younger boys, including Felix.
“I know, I know.  We won’t be friends for much longer though if Jisung and Felix don’t get here soon with that coffee and my refresher.  I’m dying here.”  Chan sighed heavily and leaned back in his chair, letting it take all of his weight.  “I’m gonna call him.”
Chan grabbed his phone from the desk and called Jisung.  The boys sat in silence, listening to the phone ring for a few seconds.  Jisung didn’t answer, so Chan called him again all while muttering profanities under his breath.  Once again, no answer.
Hyunjin took the opportunity to check and see if Felix had texted him.  His phone screen lit up when he pressed the button and he had to fight a smile at the sight of his background picture.  It was a simple one that he’d taken with Eunbyeol several months ago during cherry blossom season.  They’d walked through the park for hours, drinking coffee, snacking on candy, and taking hundreds of pictures together.  In this one, she smiled brightly up at the camera and Hyunjin had his chin atop the crown of her head with an equally bright smile on his face.  Even though it had been months, he didn’t have the heart to change it.  She looked so pretty.
He had to shake his head to look at his phone properly, but it didn’t matter because Felix hadn’t texted him since this morning, apologizing for being late to class.  Hyunjin shot him a quick ‘Where the fuck are you?’ text before checking his other notifications.  Felix may not have texted him however, his other best friend had.  Judging from the time stamp, she hadn’t even made it home yet before texting him.  He cursed himself for not checking his phone earlier, but he responded eagerly to her message.  He knew they’d see each other the next afternoon, but he missed her already.
“Chan-hyung, quit blowing up my phone!”  Jisung’s loud, whiny voice filled the studio as he pushed into the room with his hands weighed down with drink carriers.  “God, I know I’m popular but even popular people need a break sometimes.”
“What is he talking about?”  Changbin rolled his eyes.
“Well,”  Felix followed Jisung into the room, also carrying a drink carrier in each hand.  “First, I was talking his ear off, then he was on the phone with his girlfriend for over half an hour, then Chan-hyung was calling him while he was still on the phone... I think he’s overwhelmed.”
“The coffee was taking forever!”  Changbin argued.  “I mean, look!  Chan is almost asleep and Minho is practically dead!  Is that what you want?  To kill Minho-hyung?”
“Relax, it wasn’t my fault!”  Jisung argued back with a huff.  “The cafe was already busy and then we had to order six coffees.  My poor coworkers.  Didn’t inspire me enough to jump  behind the counter, though.”
“I can vouch for him.”  Felix offered, setting his drink carriers on the coffee table and sliding into the space on the couch between Hyunjin and Minho.
“You’re not innocent in this either!”  Jisung pointed an accusatory finger at the boy, who cowered behind Hyunjin’s lean form.  “You wouldn’t shut up about that girl!  What are we?  In a K-drama?  In high school?  Get it together!”
“‘That girl’?”  Changbin’s ears perked up at the mere mention of some gossip.  “Do tell!”
“Please, don’t make me listen again!  Put me out of my misery!”  Jisung wailed, throwing himself into a beanbag chair next to Changbin as dramatically as possible, careful not to spill any coffee.  “That's all he talked about for like thirty minutes.  I thought we were done with her!”
“Who?”  Hyunjin’s curiosity got the best of him.
“Um, well...”  Felix’s freckled cheeks were suddenly tinged a shade darker and he rubbed the back of his neck.  “Remember that night we all got drunk and I cried about never seeing my first love again?”
“I think I blacked out, but go on.”  Minho encouraged.
“The night Hyunjin cried about his crush?  How could I forget?”  Changbin cackled.
“Well, I thought I would never see her again because I thought she went to medical school.  Except she didn’t.  She's here!”
“What?”  Hyunjin blinked in surprise.  “Wow, that’s incredible!  What a small world!  How did you find out?”
“Honestly, it’s miraculous.”  Felix sat forward to grab his coffee from the table.  Chan’s eyes widened as he watched the younger boy take a drink, but hung onto his every word regardless.  Felix on coffee was always a sight to see.  “We’re taking a class together.”
“Wait, really?”  Chan lifted an eyebrow.
“Not only that, but there’s a pairs project over the course of the entire semester!”  Felix began to bounce.  First, it was just one of his legs.  Then both of his legs.  Before Hyunjin knew it, it was like Felix’s entire body was actually vibrating right before his eyes.  “And I’m her partner!”
“Disgusting.”  Jisung wrinkled his nose.  “I don’t get why you’re so excited when she rejected you in high school and blatantly ignored you during senior year.”
“Wait, she rejected you?  I don’t think I’ve ever seen you get rejected.”  Hyunjin blinked in surprise, but something ugly settled in the pit of his stomach.  He witnessed everything in class but he hadn’t heard Felix’s side of the story.
“Yeah...”  Felix sighed sadly for a moment before perking right back up.  “I know, I feel crazy for being so excited about it.”
“She treated you like crap.”  Jisung rolled his eyes.
“I know!  And I thought I was going to hate being in this class with her, but I just texted her earlier to ask her when she wants to meet up to look at scenes to do together or figure out the rest of the assignment.  But... like... wow...”  Felix paused to take another sip of his coffee. “The second I got a text back from her... like, is my heart supposed to be beating this fast?”
Hyunjin really didn’t like where this was going.
“You’re drinking coffee.”  Minho deadpanned.
“I know, but like... is it weird that I’m looking forward to it?”
“Yes!”  Jisung exclaimed, throwing his arms up in the air.  “You’re absolutely batshit crazy!  You heard Jiho!  She thinks you’re crazy, too!”
“Jiho knows her, too?”  Chan blinked in surprise.  Normally, talking about girls wasn’t his favorite subject, but Hyunjin figured he was using this as an excuse not to stare at his computer for a bit.
“Yeah, she’s Jiho’s roommate.”  Jisung waved off the question as if the answer was obvious.  “So like, if Jiho says you’re crazy to see her best friend of five goddamn years, then you’re insane.  Chan-hyung, call the nearest insane asylum!  We’re losing him!”
“God, you and Hyunjin are both girl-crazy.”  Changbin rolled his eyes.  “You’ve both got heart-eyes for girls who are completely unattainable.”
“Hey, Hyunjin’s at least got a pretty good chance with his girl.”  Jisung muttered exasperatedly.  It was Hyunjin’s turn to blush at the phrasing.  He liked the sound of that... his girl.  “They’re actually friends.”
“That’s true but...”  Felix paused and Hyunjin’s heart stopped beating in his chest.  “In the class, we have to do a trust exercise each week.  We have to work together all semester!  That’s something, right?”
“Lee Felix, I am putting the asylum on speed dial!”  Jisung made a huge show of holding his phone up while he searched for a phone number.  “Chan-hyung, I can’t fucking listen to this right now.  Set me up, I’m gonna record my verse again.”
With that, Jisung stood and disappeared into the recording studio.  Chan flashed Felix a grin before turning back to his computer to set things up to record for Jisung.  Hyunjin watched his friend retreat.  On one hand, he wanted to know what this girl did to Felix but on the other hand he was happy not knowing a thing.  If Hyunjin was right in his suspicions, things were about to get really awkward.
Despite sitting up and away from him, Felix’s leg pressed firmly into Hyunjin’s.  Felix’s hands clenched and released, desperate to hold onto something or someone.  Minho, an unsuspecting victim, jumped when Felix grabbed his knee and squeezed.  At this rate, Hyunjin expected Felix to simply vibrate out of his clothes.  Felix, when they first met, was generally extroverted and excited about everything.  When Hyunjin bought him tickets to a Twice concert, Felix had collapsed in tears and he jumped and danced through the entire concert without stopping.  When their group of friends took a weekend in Jeju over the summer break, Hyunjin wondered if Felix’s face hurt from smiling so much.  Excited Felix was a force to be reckoned with.  But this... this level of anxiety and excitement was like nothing Hyunjin had ever seen before.
When Felix’s phone vibrated in his lap, he practically leapt through the ceiling.  Minho cussed under his breath at the sudden jolt and Hyunjin jerked away so as not to be hit with a stray elbow.  Felix’s hands shook as he tapped the screen and he let out an audible groan when he saw the notification.  Hyunjin pulled his lip between his teeth and pretended not to steal a glance at his friend’s phone.  Playing the part of a concerned friend, Hyunjin leaned forward and slung an arm around Felix’s shoulders.  Felix gratefully leaned into him as he read the text.  Hyunjin’s eyes glanced over the screen and found his worst fear to be true.
[Pretty Eunbyeol:  Fine, whatever, I have maybe an hour after class on Tuesday.  Don’t wait up.]
Hyunjin tried to swallow the lump in his throat.  Felix’s eyes were wide with wonder as he stared down at his phone.  Hyunjin glanced at his own phone when it lit up from a text from the very girl they were talking about.  From the very girl texting Felix now.
Felix’s first love.
Hyunjin tried to find solace in the fact that most of the time first loves never worked out, but it wasn’t as reassuring as he’d hoped.  Because, at this rate, he’d be shooting himself in the foot.  He wasn’t sure he’d ever cared for anyone the way he cared for Eunbyeol.  What if she was his first love, too?
“How do I respond to that?”  Felix glanced around him at the boys in search of any advice.
“Hate to break it to you, but you don’t.”  Changbin shrugged, taking a long sip from his iced americano.  “Wait until next week and text her the morning of to confirm the plans.  That’s the next move.”
“But-”  Felix’s eyes shimmered with hope but Changbin wasn’t having it.
“No!  No buts.  Jisung literally just told you that she doesn’t like you.  And you have to respect that, yeah?  Leave her alone.”
Felix pouted and turned back to his phone screen.  The exchange between him and Eunbyeol was short, under five lines of text, but it was the most they’d ever been in direct contact like this.  Now he actually had physical proof that they’d spoken.  He shook his head and stuck his phone back into his pocket.  It was like he was a teenager all over again.  His heart pounded in his ears and his mouth went dry at the thought of seeing her.
Hyunjin, on the other hand, leaned back on the couch and strategically angled his phone so Felix couldn’t see.  He opened the extensive conversation between him and Eunbyeol and smiled when he saw her newest text to him.  It was short, sweet, to the point, and made Hyunjin’s heart explode with butterflies.  As he scanned the words over and over again, his anxiety about Felix liking her reduced a little.  It didn’t matter that they had history or that Felix had feelings.  The only thing that mattered was that Eunbyeol’s attention was on him.
[Partner in Crime:  Hyunjinnie~ I miss you!  Come over tomorrow after practice?]
Hyunjin agreed to those plans without hesitation, figuring he could cancel anything he might have had.  A small smile crept onto his lips and he had a feeling that good things were in store.
After all, at the end of the day, she was his partner.

We continue Feral Lee's adventure because I can't sleep
And mayhaps Taehoon would realize at some point that he needs to put a stop at the whole avenger thing. Because seriously, the little guy is fucking obsessed with him. He's been at it for two weeks now! He can't possibly allow this idiot to spend all his precious childhood days stalking him. Of all things to do.
Maybe he could loan a gun from Jincheol ahjussi? Have the twerp shoot him a few times?
What a fucking headcase.
Taehoon clenches his jaw, hissing through his teeth. "Hey! Come out here!"
The kid rushes towards him, swinging a punch to his thigh. "Asshole!"
Taehoon flicks his forehead. "You're getting worse each day. What, did you not eat?"
The kid flares his nostrils. "What's it to ya!"
"What's it to ya." Taehoon mimics. "What was your name again?"
"Lee Dojun!"
Taehoon nods. "And how did you come to know about me, Lee Dojunssi?"
"I read about you on hyeong's school books."
"Pardon?"
"He wrote annotations about you."
Wow, Lee Dowoon. The absolute nerd you are. "..okay."
"And I saw your pictures!"
Taehoon nods.
"You scum! Aren't you supposed to be in school?!"
"Aren't you?"
Dojun huffs. "It doesn't matter as long as I don't get a failing grade! Worry about yourself, louse!"
"Ain't your parents easygoing eh?"
"Sure. They said I shouldn't do things I don't want to."
"Are you sure you're Lee Dowoon's brother? I mean you got the alien eyes and brown hair but then-"
"Who else would I be, you sick bastard?" Dojun grumbles. "Your dad's illegitimate son?"
Taehoon crouches down swiftly, grabs the kid by his ankles and dangles him upside down.
"UNHAND ME!!"
"You'll break your neck. Put your hands down." Taehoon clicks his tongue, helping him stand back upright with careful instructions.
"And whose fault would that have been." Dojun mutters, dusting his hands as soon as he was back on his feet.
Taehoon rolls his eyes. "Listen, I get the whole revenge thing. Props to you and all, but you shouldn't skip class for this. Damn, Dowoon's gonna hate me more."
"You're the one who hates him, you heartless savage! Who do you think you are?!"
"Who fucking said I hate him?! What are you on now?!"
Dojun points a finger at him. "Not to sound like a prick but my family's pretty well off! So what if hyeong owes you 50000 won, you think he can't pay you back?! Why did you suddenly ditch him?! He was waiting for you! I read it all! He whined for five pages! You're so freaking petty!"
"What 50000 won?!"
"So choose, Seong Taehoon! Are you going to let me settle my hyeong's debt so you can stop being so damn petty and finally go see him off or would you rather I drag you there?! I didn't spend years building these muscles for nothing!"
"What 50000 won?! What muscle?!"
"Hyeong said he owes you a hundred 500 won!"
"You fucking dumbass, that's not what that means! And I went to see him off! Who do you think brought his belt?!"
Dojun blinks. "Oh.. you did?"
"And what fucking muscle.." Taehoon rubs his face with both hands.
Dojun clears his throat. "Erhh. Ssaem, are you going to hit me?"
"How fucking bored are you, you lunatic!"

“Quit pouting,” you scolded as you blended the fruits for your morning smoothie.
“Is Sungjin joining you for lunch today too?” Younghyun asked, hoping that he wasn’t. He really missed having you all to himself. Being able to talk to you whenever, see you whenever. The image of you asleep was tattooed into his mind even though it really shouldn’t be. It was wrong and he knew it. And the guilt from seeing you in such a vulnerable state was killing him all over again.
“If I remember correctly you were the one who began ghosting me when Sungjin came over to fix the breaker box during the power outage. Now you want attention?”
“Yes!”
“You really are impossible sometimes, but no he’s not. He got a last minute call to install something for a loyal client. Why?”
A smile began making its way onto Younghyun’s face before he quickly pushed it away just in time for you to look at him. “Just wondering.”
~~~
If Sungjin had a third eye, now was the time to open it. Younghyun was glaring daggers at him from the moment he’d arrived and kissed you on the cheek not even 10 minutes ago. His nonchalant aura contrasting you frantic and panicked one wasn’t helping his case either. Honestly, Younghyun really couldn’t understand what you saw in the guy. I mean yeah he was somewhat attractive, at least considering how times have changed - he wouldn’t have stood a chance against Younghyun in his own era. He would’ve wooed you so quickly. And he would’ve done everything in his entire life to validate your panicked feelings while helping you overcome them and see how perfect you looked at the moment.
“I promise you look fine,” Sungjin chuckled as your hands set the stray hairs that were nonexistent in their proper place. “No one will find a single bad thing to say about you. And if they do, they’re crazy jealous.”
The daggers being glared at Sungjin’s forehead were plentiful as Younghyun watched how he slid close to you pulling your hands away from your hair.
“We’ll be late to Wonpil’s show if we don’t leave now. And I know you’ve been looking forward to meeting him and Dowoon.”
“I want to make a good first impression. They’re your friends after all.”
Sungjin smiled softly, “They’ll love you. You’re really hard not to love.”
Yep. Younghyun was fully convinced this guy was an idiot. How could he say that so blatantly but not follow it up with a clear message of how much he loved you. Heck, why the heck did he care so much when Sungjin was stealing you away from him yet again! He was just grumbling about how much he disliked the fellow, what happened in the last three minutes.
“I forgot my bag upstairs,” you suddenly remember, rushing away, leaving Sungjin in the foyer hitting his forehead and calling himself stupid.
“At least you recognize that,” Younghyun mumbled to himself, rolling his eyes and looking at his faint fingers pretending to pick at them before freezing as he realized he no longer heard Sungjin cursing himself out. He looked over his shoulder, spotting the man, looking at him with wide eyes, mouth agape. Well you were certainly going to kill him now. “Don’t tell her you saw me. She really will have my head this time.”
“You are real,” Singjin uttered, ignoring his plea. “I thought I was crazy the other day when I saw something in the window. But you are real.”
“And you are crazy. Crazy stupid.” Sungjin shut his mouth, eyebrows furrowing ready to ask what he meant, but Younghyun beat him to it. “Just tell her clearly if you love her. She doesn’t take to people beating around the bush.”
“What?”
“You love her don’t you?” Sungjin nodded. He really needed to catch up on sleep because right now there was no way he was actually having a conversation about his love for you with a ghost. But he was. “Then just tell her. She deserved to know, and I want her to be happy.”
Even if you keep taking her away from this house and me, he wanted to add.
Sungjin went to say something and quickly turned away as you came bounding down the stairs. Younghyun vanished, feeling it was best if you didn’t know that he’d unknowingly revealed himself to lover boy.
“Okay, I’m ready. I think.”
“R-right. Um, let’s go.”
Sungjin looked back at the house as he walked around the front of his car after having opened the door for you, spotting the familiar figure in a window eyeing him knowingly. He would have to take the ghost’s advice and tell you how he felt honestly, without beating around the bush.
Band Sessions: Jae
Tumblr media
Pairing: Jae Park x reader
Genre: best friends to lovers au / band au / fluff
Warnings: none
Word count: 2037
Index: Jae | Sungjin | Young K | Wonpil | Dowoon
Tumblr media
The band’s studio space had become more than just a home for the multitude of cords that attached to equipment and instruments cluttering up two-thirds of the room. It was a designated hang out most days. The five members of Day6 would practice their music, eat meals, share ideas, cram in study sessions and even sleep there.
You were no different, given you had tasked yourself with becoming their manager ever since they won at Band Beats last month. Before that, you had only gone by the title of Jae’s childhood best friend, although to him, usually dubbed the annoying thorn in his side.
“Must you follow me around everywhere I go?” Jae whined as you shut the door to the studio behind him, throwing down his backpack beside one of the couches that resided along the long wall. Ignoring his complaint, you slumped down on the couch and retrieved your phone.
“Someone has to make sure you actually get some practice done.”
“I’m offended, what did you think I was going to do after coming here?”
Smirking lazily, you didn’t lift your eyes from the social media app you were scrolling through. “Game.”
“I would never!” Jae announced dramatically, and you arched one of your eyebrows as he let out a preposterous laugh. “Unless you’re keen to?”
“Jae!”
“Fine, okay, I will practice. God, I liked it better when you were just the friend who came to cheer us on.”
“I am still the friend cheering you on. Encouraging you forward to improve at your skill so when you go to regionals later this year, you win.”
“Is it all about winning for you?” he grumbled and you grinned as you confirmed a venue for the band to play at in two weeks time that you had been organising for the past couple of days.
Putting down your phone, you finally gave Jae your full attention. “Don’t you want to?”
“I’m just having fun with my friends playing in a university band. I can’t even guarantee I’m going to wake up on time for my lectures most mornings, let alone pull off a riff awe-inducing enough to take home another trophy.”
“Well, there’s no better time than the present to start working on that,” you stated with a bright smile, gesturing for Jae to pick up his guitar. He rolled his eyes and then collected the instrument, bringing it over to the couch and sitting down beside you. Nudging his glasses back up the bridge of his nose, Jae then positioned the guitar more comfortably, mindlessly strumming through some exercises to warm up.
You smiled, even if he talked a lot, Jae was more dedicated to his craft that he would ever admit.
You were able to get through some of your assignments whilst Jae practised. You had grown up with him playing his guitar in every situation that you found yourself more productive whenever he was around doing just that, relaxed by the tunes he would play. Two hours had easily passed by with you working and Jae strumming just like that, both completely engrossed in your own tasks. Shifting a little to remove your cardigan, you tried to return to your studies, reaching blindly for your water.
It was getting hot in here.
“Jae,” you called, your eyes nor hands tearing away from your laptop. He didn’t answer. “Jae!”
“What?”
“Open the window behind you,” you instructed and he grunted in response. You soon forgot your request, and when you realised there was still no air circulating around the room, you finally shifted your gaze. Jae was fully immersed in his intricate music and the window behind him was firmly shut.
You groaned and turned sideways towards him. “Jaehyung!”
“Oh what?!” he cried back, lifting his eyes to yours indignantly. You slapped his arm and he gaped at you. “What are you hitting me for?!”
“I asked you to open the window like forty minutes ago! It’s hot in here!”
“I’m fine,” he retorted, going back to playing.
Clamping your eyes shut to push away your growing annoyance at his dismissal of your request, you reopened them and placed your laptop aside before getting onto your knees, stretching towards the latch on the window.
However, Jae was directly in the way.
“Move.”
“I’m busy.”
“I need to open the window.”
“So stretch around me, I’ve just stumbled into something good,” Jae retorted, leaning forward a little, his only compromise to the current situation. Huffing out a breath, you leaned further, your fingers brushing over the latch. You managed to twist it after half standing up on the couch, pushing the window out wide.
You promptly lost your balance in the process.
The sudden screech to the guitar was all that filled the air once you landed haphazardly in Jae’s lap, his instrument the only thing between both of you right now. You had attempted to reach out to stabilise your failing balance, hands now resting on his shoulders, your leg bent weirdly underneath you over one of his thighs.
You should have been able to right yourself immediately. Chuckle it off with your best friend as you had done many a time when either of you had been clumsy like this. However, it felt as if time has stopped entirely. As you stared into Jae’s round eyes that showed the surprise scratched deeply within them, you couldn’t stop the feeling that you were sinking.
Sinking in his gaze, into his lap further, into his heart. Or at least, your heart sure was falling despite how still your bodies had become.
It wasn’t often when you felt like this, but you could admit it wasn’t the first time. Somewhere you had fallen in love with all the nagging banter, the flippant remarks and his soulful singing voice. That was why you hung around at the studio these days, and why, despite having a full academic year, you had opted to help promote the band.
You yearned for those moments where he’d stop being the awkward meme kid from next door and reach into your soul with every breath he made at the end of his lines, his lyrics and voice melding into one.
And yet, Jae hadn’t been singing all afternoon. You had no reason to be this affected and you finally blinked, slowly at first. Realisation dawned on you that it had been over a minute of you sitting in his lap like this and you laughed airily, trying to dislodge the intense feelings you had been drowning within.
“Oh!” you exclaimed with another airy laugh. “Whoops.”
“Whoops?” Jae echoed softly, scrutinising you with his unwavering stare.
“I’m okay!” you announced, still laughing, albeit sounding a little desperate now. You also needed more air than what the window was gently blowing into the room. “Thanks for catching my fall.”
You removed your hands from his shoulders and it was only then that you realised his own were at your waist, holding you upright. It had all happened so quickly, you didn’t even notice that he had actually saved you from slipping further. But unlike your retreat, Jae’s hands remained on your sides, the pressure digging deeper. You bit at your lip, wondering why he had saved you when his precious guitar was between you and could have been at risk.
You gasped with the thought process. “Is your guitar-”
“Are you okay?” he intervened and you nodded softly. “Really? You look like you’re about to cry. Your skin is turning blotchy.”
Trust Jae to kill the mood. Yanking free, you put space between you and him, taking in a deep breath. You were surprised to see Jae do the same, your eyes narrowing on him slightly.
What was he affected by?
“Practice,” you blurted out, waving your arms about at him. “You need to practice.”
“When do I get to do it for real?” he asked and your head snapped back in his direction, your mind more than frazzled now.
“Do what for real?”
“What will all this practice do for us, Y/N?” he repeated, his eyes firmly attached to yours. “I want to know when the real deal is going to come along for us.”
“Well, regionals is-”
“Us,” Jae reiterated, placing his guitar down on the space you had once been seated at. Standing up, he walked to where you stood; licking his lips a little to moisten them.
You cursed the giant somersault your stomach did in reaction to such a simple action.
“Us?” you said, and Jae nodded. “What about us? I’m not in the band.”
“We came before the band,” he stated, nodding along with his statement. “We existed before it.”
“What riddles are you talking about?” you breathed uncomfortably, tearing your gaze away from Jae’s. You really had no idea. Or, you didn’t want to believe in it.
It was better that way.
“I saved what was more important to me just now,” Jae told you and you turned once again back to his face. He was hesitant despite speaking about what was on his mind. As if he had held back one too many times now. It surprised you, and you sighed quietly, shaking your head.
“I could have broken your guitar.”
“I could have fixed it,” he replied and you blinked rapidly.
“You love your guitar!”
“I love you too,” he murmured, stilling once the words were out. Except for the pink tinge to his ears, he seemed unaffected. Jae then smiled with relief. “Did you hear me?”
“I think I did.”
“I love you too,” he told you again, this time with more conviction. There was no way to hide your growing smile, soon grinning at each other.
And then Jae whined. “Why aren’t you telling me back?!”
“Huh?”
“I said I love you! You’re supposed to say it back if you feel that way too!” he explained, voice laced with accusation. His eyes popped behind his glasses. “You don’t feel the same?!”
“Of course I do, you idiot!”
“Then say it!”
“I can’t just say it on the spot, Jae!” you complained, moving to go around him. However, he pulled you back in front.
“I just did!”
“Well, good for you, I’m feeling under pressure about it now!” you grumbled and Jae chuckled, tugging you with him as he returned to the couch. You squeaked when he yanked you down onto his lap, his smile mischievous.
“So let’s go back to this then.”
“You’re feeling too good right now,” you observed and Jae nodded.
“I told you how I feel. It’s kind of liberating, you should try it.”
“Nice try, Jae.”
“So I need to keep trying?” he murmured, brushing your hair back from your face, his smile growing. “Dude, you are so much work.”
“You can’t tell me you love me and then call me dude!” you said exasperatedly and Jae shrugged.
“It’s me, Y/N. Some things might be changing between us, but I’m not going to change.”
“Fair call,” you responded, your hands finding their way to his chest. Jae watched you intently, his ears turning pink again. “Oh! This is a new thing about you.”
“So some things might change about me,” he confirmed, leaning his face closer to yours. “I might be inclined to do things like this more often.”
You frowned. “What, have me sit in your lap whilst we’re in the studio together?”
“Nah,” he breathed, his mouth dangerously close to yours now. “More than that.”
Finally, he kissed you. It was soft, barely moving. Your eyes fluttered shut as you pressed into his lips, seeking more from him. Jae responded, pulling you into his upper body, supporting your weight against his chest as he anchored a hand at the back of your head, soon kissing you with demand.
You were seeing stars when you finally pulled away, galaxies forming behind your eyes. When you finally looked at your best friend, you grinned at him. “I love you, Jae.”
“What was that? I barely heard you.”
“I. Love. You.”
He smiled possibly the best smile you had ever seen graced his lips in your entire existence. And then he kissed you again briefly. “Now that’s more like it.”
words: 2.4k
warning(s): foul language. (but not too much tho)
alexa's note:
•••
"You busy again?" you tried to peek at what your friend's writing in his notebook where he writes most of his own lyrics, one that you're dying to read since last week.
"Yeah, I need to finish this soon, so go away." You pouted and glared at Younghyun while he turn his attention back to his notebook.
"Seriously, Younghyun, I know that it isn't even for a certain subject. Why you won't let me see it?" You whined and the pout never left your lips, hoping that Younghyun will give up and let you see what he's writing.
"Yeah I know, but-- Y-you don't need to read it" realizing that he really won't let you take a peek at what he's writing, you just let him much to your chagrin. After all, you never won against him.
"Right, I guess that one's really important, and confidential I think?" You said and grabbed your bag, fishing for your books instead to make yourself busy since your vacant time just started and you're not hungry (yet). But when you heard Younghyun called you after closing his notebook and fixed his bag, your stomach started to grumble.
"Let's eat? My treat." You can't help but to smile and nodded at him, fixing your bag. Of course, who wouldn't say no to food? Take note, you won't spend a dime.
___
You met Dowoon after you eat from the nearby diner. Telling each others' greetings. Dowoon was an Economics major, and he's part of Younghyun's self made band together with Sungjin, Jae and Wonpil.
"Hyung, is it done?" Dowoon asked Younghyun, while you just listened to them, not having any idea with their topic.
"Uh, oh y-yeah. Tomorrow?" Their ambiguity makes you so curious, but you were shy to ask since you were really not that close to Dowoon, so you excused yourself and waited for them to finish, grabbing your phone from your pocket to check the time.
You were a bit shock, well not really because of the time, it is because your birthday is almost next week, but truthfully speaking, it didn't excite you. You're used to being at home or just do normal things on your birthday. Your parents keep on telling you to celebrate but you just tell them you're too lazy to do so. In the end, they don't have any choice but to just visit or send you a birthday cake and greet you. You were fine with that, after all you were not a party person and you know how busy they are.
On the other hand, Younghyun just barges in to your apartment with pizzas, chicken and soda with him. A dinner with unhealthy foods and movie marathon is the best birthday celebrations for you, and also you get to spend your special day with him.
____
"Sorry, I can't walk you home. I have something to do. I'll make it up to you, hm? Really." You nod in response, while Younghyun patted your head. This is the fourth, since last week. You understand that he's busy these past few days, but you can't help but to get a bit peeved. You know you don't have the rights to because you are just his best friend for God's sake, he can do what he damn well please.
"Oh, o-okay. I'll wait for it. And- and don't worry, just take your time. You don't have to be sorry, though. See you then?" He just nod and bid your goodbyes before separating ways.
___
After taking a shower, you plopped yourself down on your bed, planning to scroll on your phone until sleepiness find its way to you. You don't have classes tomorrow, much better for a birthday rest.
You received a message from your mom, tapping the message icon to check it.
from: Mom
What are your plans tomorrow dear? Your turning 21 now.
to: Mom
what else mom? Of course laze around the whole day tomorrow. That's the best gift I'll ever receive from myself after the hell week mom.
from: Mom
Okay then. What else we can do? We know how hardheaded you are.
to: Mom
i luv u mum.
from: Mom
don't wait for me to throw a kiddie party just for you.
to: Mom
not funny mommy
from: Mom
whatever you say girl. just take your rest or do whatever you want. We'll just send a cake bcs we're gone tomorrow, for work. Love you hun. And we missed you. Happy birthday!
to: Mom
thank you mom, i miss and love u too!
After a conversation with your mom, you opened your Instagram just to see posts from everyone. Your hands never stop its duty to scroll.
After a long ass scroll, it stopped on a video posted by Wonpil. A video of Younghyun playing his guitar. You smiled while your eyes were shooting hearts as you watch him play his guitar and humming in to the music. He's so ethereal. No wonder why every girls from your major envied you. You're one hell of a lucky girl, being best friends with someone like Younghyun, the sweet, talented Younghyun. And that is the problem. Being best friends. You never want to be just best friends with him. You like him for so long. But can you blame yourself for thinking that he might not feel the same way? And you can't stomach yourself being rejected. You hate rejections, how immature of you. But isn't it too much if you'll get rejected again? You got rejected so many times already when you confessed. Maybe it's enough. No confessions, no rejections. No harsh feelings, I guess.
___
You were not expecting. You really aren't. But Younghyun should be here at this time now, right? You groaned in exasperation. You really hate yourself with passion. It isn't his duty to go here and bring foods for you, stupid. You keep on convincing yourself that he is busy. But greeting you a Happy Birthday won't eat all of his time, right?
Woah, you are indeed a hopeless case now.
It's almost 7 in the evening, and you were just lazily sitting on your couch, your eyes glued on the television, but you weren't focused on what you were watching. You don't even have an idea on what's the title of the movie. You jumped when you heard your phone ring, your mind automatically registering Younghyun's name. You smiled like an idiot as you tapped the icon open. But your smile disappeared as soon as you read the message.
from: Younghyun
Where are you?
Not even a happy birthday? Wow, what an amazing friend.
to: Younghyun
apartment. why?
from: Younghyun
Can you come over? I'll send you the address.
You don't even get the chance to ask him why when you received the address. It seems so urgent, but what does it have to do with you? You checked the address and it isn't somewhere near his apartment. You just shrugged and decided to change your clothes to a decent shirt and pants, with your shabby pair of sneakers. You really need to buy new ones now.
You hailed for a cab and gave the driver the address. A half an hour of travel and you finally arrived at the place. At first, you hesitated because the driver stopped at a fine looking diner, where your attire seems off from everyone who walks inside. But the driver says that the location was right. So you apologized and gave your payment, thanking the driver before hopping out of the car. Why will Younghyun gave you this address? You grabbed your phone from your pouch and typed a message for him.
to: Younghyun
Why did you gave me this address?
You tapped your feet against the floor while waiting for him to reply. You immediately opened the message as soon as you felt the buzz.
from: Younghyun
go inside. and by the entrance, you'll see a hallway leading to the garden. go there.
to: Younghyun
Seriously Younghyun?? I'll go inside looking like a shit? bet they won't let me in!
from: Younghyun
Just go inside. They don't really give a damn.
You just groaned and put your phone inside. You faced the mirror from the diner and fixed your hair and everything to make yourself at least presentable. You just wish that they won't look at your shoes. Your oh so good looking shoes. God damn it.
"Good evening Ma'am. Welcome to Haven Diner. A seat for two, Ma'am?" A sheepish smiled crept up on your face as the lady attendant asked you.
"Uhm... Actually I have a friend here. And he said that I need to go to that hallway heading to the garden." The lady gasped and nodded enthusiastically.
"Oh, yes, yes. Please take that way, Ma'am. It'll lead you to the diner's garden." You mouthed thanks to her before heading to the said hallway. You don't know why you feel iffy about this situation. But you decided to brush it off since you don't want to have false hopes. Maybe his band have a gig and unfortunately he called you for some errands.
And you weren't wrong. The instruments are there. But what's confusing is no other people from the five boys. You turn your head to Younghyun, together with his bandmates.
"What-"
Younghyun smiled at you, and he seems so edgy.
"Just, just stay there and watch. Okay?" You just nodded slowly, the situation is still not sinking in to you. Dowoon started by beating the drums, before Jae started to sing.
It was a really hard day today
My heart aches for you
The only thing I can do for you
Is to be next to you, I’m sorry
While Jae was singing, your eyes never left Younghyun. He looks so nervous a while ago, but it seems like it all went away when he started playing his guitar. You feel like he took your breath away especially when he started singing.
You’re so pretty when you smile
So every time you lose that smile
Even if I have to give my all
I want to give it back to you
It's like he's talking to you, his eyes were sparkling as he sings, your heart never stay calmed when he looks directly at you.
I want to cry for you
I want to hurt instead of you
I don’t want any scars in your heart
Ever again
When you love someone
So much that it overflows
It’s so amazing
Because this is how it is
Younghyun sang once again, and this time, he is smiling, and your lips instantly form into a smile, too.
This is a song for you
I'm singing for you
I'll give you my everything
You clapped after their song ended, your face will almost rip at how wide your smile was. And the beatings of your heart is still not in normal state. Can you? After Younghyun sang for you? It's not that you never saw him sing with his band, but this one feels utterly different from all his gigs that you attended. It's like this one is especially for you. For you only.
"What was that for?" You can't think of anything to say when Younghyun went near you, so you asked the first thing that came to your mind. Your heart skipped a beat when he hold your hand. His hand was so cold, telling how nervous he is.
"happy birthday, Y/N. and--" he stopped mid-sentence when you hugged him.
"You're so annoying! You- you don't have to do that, you know. But really, thank you. That was so beautiful. I really liked it." You said, and squeezed him more you can already feel how his heart beat so fast.
"I-I'm glad you liked it. But I still have something to tell you." You hummed and pull away from the hug, he sighed as you cock your head, encouraging him to continue.
"I... I like you Y/N." Your eyes flutter as you register what he said. It feels like you're in a dream. This feels so surreal.
"A-are you serious?" You know how much he hates lying. But you just can't believe that this thing was happening. You don't think you deserve any of this.
"Yeah. I won't lie about it Y/N. You know how I hate lying to people. And I don't want to hurt you. I just want to see you smile. I just want to see you happy. Just like the message of the song. The song's for you. That's my gift." You pouted as you try to stop your tears from falling , but it is to no help because it automatically fell. You can hear the sincerity in his voice. Telling that he isn't really joking around. Younghyun just smiled and hugged you once again, rocking your body side by side.
"I hate you" you mumbled while smacking his arms lightly making him chuckle.
"Why tho?"
"Because I like you too, you silly." You told him making him gasp in shock.
"Did you just confessed to me?" He said making you frown. Now he's joking around.
"You confessed first." You remarked and rolled your eyes. Wiping the tear stains away from your face.
"So what are we now?" You asked even if you already know the answer. You just want him to hear from him.
"We're dating. I can see you want to hear it from me." He said and pinched your cheeks. But the grumble from your stomach made Younghyun bursts into laughter. That's surely a mood killer.
"Come on, you need to eat. The celebrant needs to eat." Younghyun said and grabbed your hand, pulling you to sit on the chair. Your eyes wander around to see if the boys are still there.
"But where are the others? I thought they're going to join us?" You said as you wait for the waiter to come.
"They're already stuffing their mouths with tons of food. Don't mind them. This is our time, okay?" He said and winked making your heart jump out.
"Whatever you say, Kang Younghyun."
Parker stepped out of the bathroom stall, and walked over to the sink. She washed her hands then moved over to grab some paper towels to dry them. While doing all this she hummed to the song that was playing on the speakers in the bathroom.
Taking a look in the mirror, Parker ran her fingers through her hair– it had gotten messy while she slept on the plane– then readjusted her face mask. Once pleased with how she looked, the girl adjusted the straps of her backpack and walked out of the bathroom.
Day6 had just landed in Japan for some promotions, and were about to head to the hotel to relax for a few hours before they had to do a fan meet. To say Parker was excited was an understatement. She’d only ever been to Japan a handful of times, but she fell in love with the country more and more each time she visited.
Parker kept her head slightly bowed as she maneuvered through the crowds looking for the seating area where she had left the boys. As she neared though, she couldn’t find any of them. She looked around, eyes scanning each person that walked by, but no luck. They were gone.
A groan passed her lips as she shoved her hand into the pocket of her hoodie. Finding her phone she dialed Sungjin’s number. She huffed as it started to ring. This wasn’t the first time that they had forgotten her, but it was the first time it happened in an airport and overseas for that matter.
When the automated voice greeted her, Parker cursed. “Of-fucking-course,” she grumbled, scrolling through her contacts for Younghyun’s number. She ended up calling all five members plus their manager, Jaewon, and yet no answer.
Parker shot a quick text into their group chat, angrily typing “I hate you all! You idiots left me here! This is child abandonment! I’m reporting you all!!!” She added an angry face emoji then the swearing one, then shoved her phone back in her pocket.
Looking up, Parker searched for a sign that would lead her to an information desk. She could wait there until one of her bonehead members came for her. But after glancing at each sign, she realized that she was in Japan, and everything was in Japanese.
“Shit,” Parker whispered to herself as she looked around for anyone who looked like they worked here. Her eyes widened as she saw someone who looked like a cleaning staff. Hopefully she could make it through with her English. (It was the universal language, right?)
Parker walked over to the man who looked to be in his forties. She quickly racked her brain for the Japanese word for ‘excuse me’. (Thank God for anime.)
“S-sumimasen?” Parker began, calling the man’s attention. Said man stopped what he was doing and looked up at Parker.
“Information desk?” She kept it simple, hoping that just those two words would be enough. The man squinted his eyes at her as if trying to understand what she was saying.
Parker pulled her face mask down, resting it on her chin, then repeated herself. The man’s eyes widened in understanding, then pointed down the hallway towards a desk with a big sign that read “Information Desk.” Parker grunted. (Of course.)
Looking back at the man, she bowed. “Arigato Gozaimasu,” Parker said, smiling at the man. He smiled back and went back to doing his task.
Parker pulled her face mask back in place then walked over to the desk. She checked her phone again to see if anyone had called her, but her notifications were empty. (She’d kill them. All of them. Day6 would become a solo act.)
She got in line behind two other people, and waited for her turn. While she waited, Parker began to think through what she’d tell the woman at the desk exactly. Could they even help her? She could just wait nearby so it’d be easier for the boys to find her, that is, if they even realize she’s missing.
Her phone vibrated in her pocket, and Parker quickly reached for it. “Hallelujah,” she whispered in relief, as she saw Dowoon’s name flash on the screen. Parker pressed accept, and waited to hear his voice.
“Hello? Parker?” came his voice. He sounded worried, and rightfully so.
“Yah! You all left me, didn’t you?!” Parker shouted into the phone, then smiled sheepishly to the people around her. She bowed her head and apologized as she left the line and found a secluded area to properly yell.
“It was an accident, I swear!” Parker heard Sungjin say. Dowoon must have the phone on speaker. (Perfect, she could rip them all a new one.)
“How far did you get?” she asked, placing a hand on her hip, tapping her foot angrily.
“About ten minutes from the airport?” Younghyun said nervously, almost sounding like a question.
“Traffic?” Parker asked.
“No,” Wonpil had answered dejectedly. Parker smirked. (Good. they should feel ashamed.)
“Are you on your way back?”
“Obviously,” Jae answered this time, though he sounded slightly annoyed. Parker raised a brow at that.
“Soo, we’re really sorry. I swear we thought you were with us. We’re all so tired from this past week's schedule, that we honestly hadn’t noticed,” Sungjin said.
Parker could hear the shame in his voice. She knew that the leader was beating himself up, and as much as she wanted to be annoyed with them for leaving her behind again, she hated hearing Sungjin like this.
“It’s fine. No worries,” she said, walking over to an empty seat. She sat her bag on the ground then pressed her knees to her chest.
“No it’s not. We left a member, our youngest member, alone in a foreign country,” Sungjin said in exasperation.  He was getting worked up.
“Seriously, Oppa. I’m good. I’m not even that mad. Just hungry,” Parker said, hoping to lighten the mood. She heard a chuckle that sounded like Dowoon.
“I’ll get you whatever you want,” Sungjin quickly said.
Parker laughed. “Sounds good,” she said looking out the window. From where she sat she could look out onto the street. “You almost here?” she asked.
“Pulling up right now.” That was Jaewon.
“I’m at the info desk on the first floor. I think it’s by the west entrance,” Parker supplied. She stood up, and slung her bag onto her shoulders.
“Perfect. Thank you,” Jaewon said. Parker imagined him pulling right up to the entrance.
“We’re coming in now,” Sungin stated.
Parker’s eyes widened. “Who’s ‘we’?” she asked. She’d be so embarrassed to have all of them swarm her and have everyone watch.
“Chill. Only Sungjin and Dowoon are going in,” Jae said. Parker could hear him smirking.
Parker nodded her head, then remembered that they could see her. “Okay,” she said. Then she moved to get a better view of the west entrance.
“Okay, we’re coming in now, Soo,” Sungjin said, just as Parker caught a glimpse of them walking through the revolving doors.
“I see you,” she said, then waved her hand in the air as the pair looked her way. Dowoon spotted her first, then grabbed Sungjin’s arm and pulled him towards her.
Parker hung up then put her phone in her pocket. She walked over to the two, shaking her head with a pout. “Bad parenting,” she said, but laughed as Sungjin crashed into her, arms wrapping around her.
“I’m so sorry, Soojin,” the older said, as he held her. Parker smiled into his chest and hugged him back.
“It’s okay, Oppa. Really.” Parker pulled out of the embrace and peeked up at him. She grinned and Sungjin couldn’t help grinning back.
“Okay, now that we know that you’re okay. Let’s get going. I’m pretty sure that Hyung is double parked,” Dowoon, chuckled as he waved towards the door.
“Were you not worried?” Parker quizzed the drummer as the three began to walk towards the exit.
“At first yeah, but let’s be honest. You’d have been able to find a way to the hotel on your own. Plus I was lowkey scared that if you did, you’d kill us,” Dowoon said, laughing.
“Yah!” Sungjin made to wack Dowoon on the arm, but the younger dodged. “But he’s right. To both,” Sungjin said to Parker, smiling.
“This is very true. I was actually on my way to kill you all when Oppa called,” Parker chuckled. She smiled smugly when she saw both of them falter in their step.
“Why did it take you guys so long to realize I was gone? Did you not notice how quiet the car ride was?” Parker joked as the three made their way to the van that they had rented.
“Actually, that’s what tipped us off. The car was way too quiet,” Dowoon said. Parker’s jaw dropped.
“Next time I’ll make sure to do a head count, instead of wondering why the constant chatter has stopped,”  Sungjin said, looking forward. Parker waited for him to chuckle or smile, but then she realized that he was being serious.
Parker shrugged her shoulders as she entered the van. “A head count would be more efficient, but I still can’t believe that my noise level is how you determine if I’m here or not,” Parker shook her head. She climbed in and sat next to Wonpil in the back row.
“We wouldn’t have to do that if you actually had a mute button,” Jae said from his place in the passenger seat. His seat was slightly reclined and his eyes were closed.
“Well if that were the case, then y’all would have very boring lives,” Parker said as the van began to move.
“The word you’re looking for is quiet. We’d have very quiet lives,” Jae corrected.
“Oppa! Jae’s picking on me again,” Parker whined. Her pout turned to a smirk when she saw Sungjin grimace. She was sure that he was regretting coming back for her.
You Were Beautiful
Tumblr media
Genre: Sad
Pairing: Jaehyun x Dowoon
Summary: After the passing of Dowoon Jae pushes himself to cope with his death one day alone in the office he comes across a file titled "you were beautiful" something that Dowoon would always like to write on his or Jae or both there shared stuff for some reason
Chapter 1
( only 1 chapter )
———
i look to the side of my desk looking at the files that are waiting for me to finish up or if not start before the dead line i look at the tab that is opened on my computer i debate weather to do my work or go on my computer and just do anything
after debating for awhile i decided to put my work on hold to give myself a bit of a small break since i haven't had one yet i hold my mouse as i rest my chin on my hand i start typing away as i keep looking at my clock next to the pile of books
11:42pm i sigh deeply as i stretch a bit in my seat while keeping my eyes glued to the computer taking a sip of my coffee i stop as something catches my eyes a file titled "you were beautiful" i put my cup down next to my clock as i look at the file closely rereading the title over and over again making sure im reading this right
i even take off my glasses cleaning them to make sure i read it right and i did i bite my lip thinking if i should open it or not if i want to unlock these memories that i never wanted to unlock why not just give it a try
i click on the file as a small black screen appears i click on the video as it shows a big screen a video shows a male running in the snow dressed in winter clothes all cozy up I look carefully trying to see the male face as the male turns towards the camera
my eye light up as i see the male face it was me smiling at the camera i smile a bit as i watch the clip it shows me running in the snow smiling and talking to the camera the audio wasn't working because the camera ended up breaking from the audio thing but at least the video was working right
the clip continue as i keep running but ended up tripping and falling backwards onto the snow the camera goes above me as i start making a snow angel the clip changes to me laying on my side looking not at the camera but at the person behind it im smiling it continues with me playing with the snow throwing some towards the camera hitting it
then im leaning a railing i signal the person holding the camera to come towards me they back away a bit going to the side as i start making faces and doing random hearts and other funny stuff
i keep looking at the camera as i just smile at it i keep smiling at the computer like an idiot as the clip ends i assume that it ended but i was wrong another clip comes on as i just get comfy incase more clips start playing after
the next clip shows me waddling to the front of a store window where there are 3 mannequin as i start posing like im a fashion model then there me running down the white stairs as i stop in the middle i pout turning towards the camera looking at it with a hurt expression
the next clips show me in a karaoke room singing i was wearing a blue shirt white shorts and shoes that weren't even mine but they were dowoon i stop the clip as i move my seat back looking down at my shoes i was wearing the same shoes that belonged to him i smile a bit as i unpause the clip as it continue playing
i play around in the karaoke room singing and playing with the random instruments i smile at the computer a big wide smile i start laughing at myself loudly as i start coughing laughing even more I ended up falling in the clip as I laughed it off and got back up having more fun
the next clip is me running on the side walk in the night where no one was around i look at the camera with a big smile one that i haven't had made for a long time till now the next clip was during the summer time
i was playing with a water gun shooting the camera with some water as i hear a bit of the audio it was his soft voice
"yah stop doing that meanie" i chuckle at his response it keeps changing as im squatting down shooting him with a water gun laughing and smiling standing up as i run towards him shooting him hitting him with more water as i hear him whine
Laughing thats my dowoon the clip changes again as i stop laughing looking at the computer closely it was a clip of dowoon singing a song playing with a guitar i put my feet on his lap as he looks at me pushing my feet away
"you nasty" i laugh at his reaction as he puts his guitar down to his side as he goes for my waist tickling me as i laugh since im very sensitive i keep smiling a lot at the computer with my smile becoming bigger and bigger with each moment
The next clip is the camera sitting on the table as i was shown feeding dowoon noodles making sure he doesn't spill anything since i don't want to clean up his mess since he is a lazy man who doesn't like to clean then we play games as i was winning against him while he was losing
Since i was wearing a hat he pulls it down blinding me so he can win the game and not lose again i put my hat up as I start hitting his head as we are laughing loudly im betting that the next door neighbors could probably hear us
it changes again as we are shooting water at each other with water guns running around watching our steps since we don't want to fall and hurt ourselves or watch each other get hurt it was getting dark and it was already past 1:00am but i didn’t care
Then there me looking around as dowoon slides towards me holding popcorn and one sode with two straws with the recipe between his lips i take the recipe as he takes a sip of the soda it changes to us smiling at the movie i don't really know or remember what we were watching but we were both smiling like two idiots
it changed again to us both singing in the karaoke room dancing and jumping around like crazy while singing looking into each other eyes the next clip was me looking at a small white puppy as dowoon looked at me smiling with so much love in his eyes watching me play with the small puppy
it changed to me painting dowoon nails as he was looking up at the ceiling he seems like he is thinking about life haha well kind of but then he went to smile with his unhappy face i don't know why i sigh deeply as i look down at my keyboard
The bad memories started hitting me again when i was in a angry mood and he kept trying to cheer me up but i wasn't in the mood and i got angry at him pushing him away as i walked off he looked at me confused i have never acting like this towards him
then it all went down hill it was the worst time in my whole life i was somewhere one night as i was talking to dowoon over the phone i wanted to end it all with him i don't know why but i just didn't want to be with him anymore i still loved him but i wasn't okay at that time
i ended up breaking up with him that night leaving him crying and all heartbroken then i remember the good times the time where me and him would walk around the streets holding hands kissing each other ignoring every one stares as we were in our own little world
the file closed as i wiped away my tears that i didn't even notice falling from my eyes i sigh deeply turning off my computer as i lean back in my seats he was gone it was all over but i still went to say my last goodbyes i know he in a better place now
he was a beautiful person a nice person...
you were beautiful yoon dowoon i love you so much... I’m sorry
pairing: yoon dowoon x reader
summary:  Can I request a Dowoon imagine with 69, 229 and 225 where he and pocket sized reader got into an argument right before the band had to go on tour. And several days into the tour, when Dowoon and the other members dont hear or see the reader, they think its because the reader wants to be left alone. But they soon realise that they accidentally left the reader back at the dorms.
warnings: arguing, cursing, theres a bit of crying
69. “Don’t act so innocent. I heard you.” / 229. “That’s it. I quit, I’m sick of this.” / 225. “Don’t touch me.”
Tumblr media
Usually when you and Dowoon argued, it was about something dumb. It was always small and more often than not ended with one of you comforting the other, and finding a way to compromise. Not this time, this time was different.
He had walked in after helping get everything settled, ready to hug his girlfriend and help her. He had called out your name softly, only to quickly cut himself off as he heard you on the phone. “-that I’m just using him, or that I don’t actually love him. That would be a disaster.”
His heart stopped hearing that. He didn’t even hear the rest of your little ramble to your best friend, the words blurring together in his mind as the phrase swam around his head in a loop. “You’re lying to me?” The question was soft and timid as it left him, full of hurt, but it was enough to have you telling your best friend you had to go before turning to him in confusion. “Baby? What are you talking about, of course I’m not-”
“Don’t act so innocent. I heard you!” His voice got louder. “You said you were just using me.”
You felt like you were at a serious disadvantage as he yelled at you. He was glaring down at you as you stood up on the bed to look at him better. “That’s not what I said,” you tried to approach the situation calmly and explain that he had only heard part of what you were saying, but he just talked over you, having convinced himself you were lying. He suddenly took a deep breath, holding his hands up. “That’s it, I quit. I’m sick of this.”
“Dowoon!” You yelled after him, so very hurt and confused. What did he mean? Did he mean he was sick of you? You climbed down the bed, rushing after him, but he was long gone... he didn’t even take you with him. Tears formed in your eyes as you slumped against the floor.
That was three days ago. Now, they were all just sitting around the room, left to their own devices until Wonpil suddenly asked, “How bad of a fight was it?”
Dowoon rolled his eyes at the sudden question. “Does it matter?”
“I’m just saying.. I haven’t seen Y/N at all. How badly did you fuck up that she needs this much space from you?” He frowned at that, going to defend himself but stopping as his phone rang. He rolled his eyes at the sight of your best friend’s name across the top of the screen. “Hello?”
“Are you an idiot?” Her voice was so loud he had to pull the phone away from his ear. “That’s not a rhetorical question.”
He rolled his eyes. “Why are you calling me? You could’ve just called-”
“Oh, so you are an idiot,” she snapped, and Wonpil muttered out an, oh, that bad. Dowoon let out an aggravated sigh. “After what she did, why do you feel the need to call me?”
There was a moment of silence before you friend snapped back, “Are you fucking kidding me?” The boys all shared a look as she started. “You hear part of a conversation she has with me, accuse her of something she hasn’t done, then leave without her, and you think you’re in the right?”
“I heard the important part of the conversation,” he growled. “And we didn’t leave her, she’s just distancing herself.” Brian stood up to go look for you.
Your friend was close to killing him. “You didn’t even notice that she’s not there? Dowoon, you are single handedly the worst person I know. Y/N told me she turned down an offer of yours to help her with money because she didn’t want you to feel like she was just taking advantage of you, then you didn’t even let her explain what you heard, and she has been locked up inside an apartment by herself for three days because her boyfriend is too selfish to care about anyone but himself.”
He paled at that. No way... he couldn’t have been so stupid as to do all of that. Brian came back into the room, out of breath. “She’s really not here guys.”
“Fuck,” Dowoon cursed loudly, “I fucked up. Oh god..”
“You did,” she said bluntly. “You have one chance to fix this. If I get in your apartment and she’s not okay... it’s on you.” The call ended abruptly, and he just stared down at the device in his hand. Had he really jumped to such conclusions like that? Using him didn’t even seem like something you would do. And now you were all alone, in an apartment not made for someone your size. A sinking feeling hit his chest as he stood up. He had to fix this.
between five and ten who has the better voice?
purely because one is a rapper and one is a vocalist, i’ll have to say kun
between one and eight who is the funniest?
by popular vote (which i also agree with) it has to be wooyoung. mans is a whole comedian and he doesn’t even have to try
between six and nine who would you date?
neither????? bro the day6 members are too old i would never date them ;-;
between nine and ten who would you do a collab with?
BANNANA DIVISION AUDTION : prompt 1 COUNT : 385 words
entering the room, dowoon was nervous. this was a big opportunity for him and he wanted to do well. acting was one of his side goals (outside of being an idol) so he wanted to take every opportunity he could to act. he felt fairly confident in his acting abilities, he been complimented on them, but this was a comedy and he didn’t think of himself as particularly funny. he could crack a joke every now and then, and he had been on a couple variety shows in the past, but he had never felt confident. still, he was determined to try!
when he walked in, he bowed and introduced himself politely, as well as his imagined character. he had worked fairly hard in his free time on who he wanted to portray, and thought that choi hangil could be a funny character if given the right writing.
once he explained all he could about his character, the director gave him his assigned scenario. getting into characters, he began to explain his plan. “well at least it wasn’t my fault this time—not that i would ever do something that idiotic…well maybe that once, but that was right when i’m started. i’m a seasoned professional now.” the director asked when he had started, “a month ago.”
he spoke with unearned confidence, giving an attitude that he knew exactly what to do and how to do it. he smirked and smiled as he spoke, doing his best to ooze confidence and a nonchalant attitude. “but, i would get in front of whoever we’re presenting to and lay on the charm, i mean who could rest this face?” he pointed to himself, hiding the cringe that was inside him. “then, i would go to whoever lost the files—which was definitely NOT me—and give them a piece of my mind. how dare they screw this up for ME? have they no sympathy?? it’s hard enough having to balance coming to work and a social life, now i actually have to work while i’m here? terrible…”
he ended his audition by thanking the director and casting agents for their time and the chance politely, bowing as he did so. he left the audition not feeling great about his chances, but with his patented optimism that it would turn out alright.
I don't want a lot for Christmas There is just one thing I need I don't care about the presents Underneath the Christmas tree I just want you for my own More than you could ever know Make my wish come true  All I want for Christmas is you
Dowoon had been your neighbor for over a year now. You had moved into the apartment next to him, and you had seen him in the hallway and around the complex several times before actually meeting him. One day, a package addressed to him had been delivered to your mailbox by mistake, so you’d knocked on his door and given it to him.
When the door had opened, you’d grinned at him and said, “Hey, this package is for you, but it was put in my mailbox by mistake.”
A bashful smile had spread across his lips, he had taken the package from you gingerly, and he had softly thanked you. And that had been it. He had closed the door without another word.
And you had instantly fallen in love.
Ever since then, you had tried your best to talk to him, get to know him, actually become friends with him. You’d waved at him in the hallway. You’d said ‘Hi’ at the mailboxes. You’d pretended like you were out of some super important ingredient you needed for something you were baking and knocked on his door to ask him for it.
He had waved back at you in the hallway. He had said ‘Hi’ back to you at the mailboxes. He had either regretfully told you he didn’t have that super important ingredient you needed or he had lent it to you with a small, shy smile.
But that was it. He returned your interactions, but he never initiated them.
You could tell he was just shy, though, because he was always super friendly! He never acted like he didn’t want to wave or say ‘Hi’ or lend you an ingredient if he had it. He was always happy to, he just never did it first.
By the time Christmas rolled around, your crush had only gotten deeper. Dowoon’s shyness, however, hadn’t changed. So, you decided that your Christmas present to yourself this year -- the only thing you truly wanted -- was to get closer to him.
You didn’t want a fancy new smartwatch or a new pair of shoes or a pastel-colored stand mixer for all the baking you were now doing.
You just wanted Dowoon.
I don't need to hang my stocking Thereupon the fireplace Santa Claus won't make me happy With a toy on Christmas day I just want you for my own More than you could ever know Make my wish come true All I want for Christmas is you
Against your better judgment, you decided to throw a Christmas party.
I say ‘against your better judgment’ because a party truly didn’t seem like the best way to reach Dowoon’s heart. He was shy and quiet, and he seemed like he was probably an introvert, so why would you think he would want to come over to your apartment when a bunch of other people were there?
But you had come up with a plan in case he ended up not coming, so either way, things should work out!
Hopefully.
You invited friends and neighbors over to your apartment the Saturday before Christmas, waiting to invite Dowoon last. Maybe because you were nervous or maybe because you expected him to decline, and if he did, you knew you wouldn’t feel like even having the party, but since everyone else was already coming, you had no choice...
Either way, you waited to invite Dowoon last.
Just a couple of days before the party, you happened to run into him in the mailroom. You greeted him as you normally did, and he said ‘hey’ back with a smile, as he normally did. You unlocked your mailbox, shuffled through the letters inside... glanced at him covertly...
Your heart began to beat a bit faster inside your chest, and just when you heard him close his mailbox, you cleared your throat.
“Hey, so, uh --” you began, and out of the corner of your eye, you saw him turn to look at you. “I’m having a Christmas party on Saturday. You’re welcome to come if you want. A lot of our neighbors will be there.”
You held your breath, waiting for him to say he was busy or ‘no thank you’ or something along those lines.
So, imagine your surprise when you heard him murmur, “Yeah, sure. What time?”
Your eyes widened, and you blinked, stammering out the time you’d decided on and watching as his lips spread into a tiny grin.
“I’ll be there,” he said quietly before nodding at you and then turning to leave.
It took just about everything in you not to jump around and squeal when he left the mailroom. He had actually said ‘yes’?! He was coming to your party?!
You were now officially one step closer to your Christmas present.
I won't ask for much this Christmas I won't even wish for snow, and I I just wanna keep on waiting Underneath the mistletoe I won't make a list and send it To the North Pole for Saint Nick I won't even stay awake To hear those magic reindeer click 'Cause I just want you here tonight Holding on to me so tight What more can I do Oh, Baby, all I want for Christmas is you
It was Saturday evening, and your party was in full swing.
You weren’t surprised that Dowoon hadn’t arrived yet; you figured he certainly wouldn’t want to show up early in case he was the first one there and had to make awkward small talk with you. In a shy person’s eyes, it was much better to show up to a party late since it upped the odds that someone you knew would already be there.
While you weren’t surprised, you were anxious. You hoped he hadn’t said he’d come just to be polite but he actually wasn’t going to show up. As you flittered around your apartment performing your hosting duties (filling up snack bowls, chatting with friends you hadn’t seen in a bit, etc, etc), you couldn’t stop your eyes from darting to your front door, even when nobody was opening it.
The past two days had just been so filled with both anxiety and longing that you were almost to your breaking point.
Ever since Dowoon had accepted your invitation, you’d let yourself hope that your one Christmas wish could actually come true -- would actually come true -- and you now so desperately wanted to become closer to him that if you didn’t, if he didn’t show up tonight, you would be more disappointed than you could remember being.
Truly, all you wanted for Christmas was him. But you’d done your part. You’d invited him here tonight, and now all you could do... was wait.
All the lights are shining So brightly everywhere And the sound of children's Laughter fills the air And everyone is singing I hear those sleigh bells ringing Santa won't you bring me The one I really need Won't you please bring my baby to me I don't want a lot for Christmas This is all I'm asking for I just wanna see my baby Standing right outside my door
“Yeah, go for it!” you grinned when one of your neighbors requested turning the volume of the music up so all the guests could engage in a sing-along.
Honestly, you really didn’t care what everyone else did at this party. You only cared if Dowoon showed up!
As everyone gathered around the Bluetooth speaker (well -- not everyone; some of your neighbor’s kids were playing with the toys they’d brought and giggling in the most adorable way), you headed into the kitchen to prepare some hot chocolate and coffee and start putting some Christmas cookies on a tray. If your guests were going to be caroling, you figured they should have some appropriate refreshments.
Just as you set the kettle down and flipped the switch to start it, you heard the telltale squeak of your front door opening. As they had been for the past hour or so, your eyes flew to the door to see who was --
Oh, god.
He was here.
A smile pulled at your lips immediately, and when Dowoon’s gaze landed on yours, your heart began to race inside your chest.
A bashful expression, one you knew well by this point, immediately appeared on Dowoon’s face, and the tips of his ears began to turn red. But he started walking over to you anyway.
And it wasn’t until he was about halfway to you when you realized he was carrying something. A small, wrapped box.
Your heart started beating even faster. What could it be? You hadn’t told him to bring anything, so whatever it was, he had brought it of his own accord.
And that made you more excited than you were willing to admit out loud.
“Hey,” you greeted somewhat breathlessly when he finally arrived next to you in the kitchen. “You made it.”
“Yeah, it was a long trip,” he replied with a soft chuckle. “Sorry, I’m late.”
“No, you’re not late at all,” you assured him, leaning your hip against the counter as you faced him.
Dowoon simply smiled shyly at you before shifting his gaze down at the box he was holding. “I, uh...” he began.
He cleared his throat and moved his weight from one foot to the other awkwardly, causing even more heart palpitations. He seemed nervous, in a good way.
“I got something for you,” he murmured, his voice just loud enough for you to hear over the singing and laughing but soft enough so nobody else could. He held out the box toward you and just barely met your gaze.
“Oh -- thank you,” you replied as you tried not to smile like a complete idiot. “That’s so sweet. You didn’t have to get me anything.”
“Well, I... I wanted to,” he replied. And then he rose his eyebrows slightly, clearly waiting for you to open it.
You took it from him and began to gingerly unwrap it, wanting to save the paper solely because it was Dowoon’s. He had (presumably) taken the time to wrap it for you, so it was now the most special wrapping paper in the world.
Once you’d carefully broken the tape and taken the paper off, you lifted the lid on the small, white box. Inside was a colorful glass ornament shaped and painted to look like a cupcake.
“You’re always asking me for baking ingredients, so I figured you like to bake,” Dowoon explained as you delicately lifted the ornament out by the ribbon loop, holding it up so you could admire it.
While you didn’t actually love to bake, you had come to enjoy it since you’d started finding recipes with ingredients you didn’t have so you had a reason to knock on Dowoon’s door. And now that Dowoon had gifted you with a cupcake ornament because he thought you liked it? Well, you would probably end up opening your own bakery one day.
“Dowoon,” you grinned. “This is so thoughtful. Thank you so much.”
And then you realized you hadn’t bought a gift for him.
“I don’t have anything to give you in return, I’m so sorry, I didn’t --”
“No,” Dowoon interrupted, and you noticed the tips of his ears began to turn red again. “You -- you don’t have to get me anything. Inviting me here tonight is my present.”
Your heart suddenly went from beating uncontrollably to not beating at all.
Was he... saying what you thought he was saying?
“Inviting... what do you mean?” you managed to stammer out.
“I haven’t been able to work up the nerve to really talk to you,” he explained with a bashful shrug. “When you invited me to your party, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to finally -- finally get to know you.”
After hearing his words, you weren’t quite sure how you were still standing. Or, at the very least, how you hadn’t dropped and shattered your new ornament.
“Really?” you whispered hopefully.
He nodded, and it was all you could do not to throw your arms around him and confess your feelings right then and there.
“I want to get to know you better, too,” you said instead.
While Dowoon’s smile remained shy, his eyes lit up when you returned his sentiments, and your heart soared and leaped up into your throat.
And... you might as well just be honest.
“I actually threw a party just so I could invite you,” you admitted with a chuckle. “You seem shy so I figured it might be easier than something one-on-one, and --”
Dowoon interrupted you by reaching over and taking the ornament from you, his fingers brushing over yours.
“Should we... go hang it up?” he asked with a cautious lilt to his voice.
You took a breath and then nodded, your lips spread into the widest, brightest grin possible. “Yeah,” you breathed.
I just want you for my own More than you could ever know Make my wish come true Baby all I want for Christmas is you All I want for Christmas is you, baby
Dowoon stood closely next to you as you slid the ribbon onto one of the few bare branches left on your Christmas tree, and your arm brushed against his when you took a small step back to admire it.
“It’s perfect,” you said. “I love it. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome,” Dowoon murmured. “...Merry Christmas.”
Your breath caught in your throat because you had the strongest urge to turn and kiss him... so, you did. You looked over at him, you leaned in, and you placed a quick but sweet kiss on his cheek.
“Merry Christmas,” you replied.
Dowoon’s ear turned even redder than it had been before, and you almost regretted your actions...
But then you felt his fingers brush against yours. You felt him gently take your hand, linking your fingers together.
And you let out a huge sigh of relief.
Your Christmas wish had come true -- his Christmas wish had come true -- and... you had a feeling you were going to be baking a lot more cupcakes in the future.
But that was more than fine with you.
Maze of Miroh- Chapter 18: The Battle for The Under Pt 1
San seemed to regain some of his composure back as he glared at Yeosang, sheathing his daggers and returning to a neutral stance.
“And what proof of that do you have Yeosang?” His voice was cold, but Minho heard a faint trace of fear hidden in it as well. Almost like San was scared that the other blond might actually produce solid evidence against their supposed leader.
Yeosang shook his head angrily at the other, his face turning into a look of disappointment. “Since when did I need proof San?”  he argued back. “Have we not been like brothers all these years? Our trust runs deeper than blood does it not? Why can’t you just believe what we say is true?”
This seemed to hit San a bit more to home, and Minho noticed the blond looked down at his feet, almost guilty.
“Yeosang.” Hongjoong called, interrupting the two. His eyes were wide but there was no denying the look of relief plastered on his tired face as he stared at his younger member. “What exactly do you know?”
“Not everything” he called out, turning towards his leader. “To be honest, I have no evidence to support what  is being said about Zico-”
San out of his shamed look and his eyes shot up with his mouth wide open, about to argue. But before he could utter a word out, the blond spy raised his hand, almost in warning at him.
“-But” he continued without pause “ On my way here, I discovered two intruders clawing around in our caves-”
“What?!” Seonghwa interjected, pure shock on his face “But the caves are forbidden at night! Did they not come across any of the beasts that roam around there?”
Yeosang shook his head. “No. But that's not the worst of it hyung.” he voiced “They were talking about some kind of mission given to them….. Something about testing a new weapon for the President.”
“Order spies...” Chan’s hissing voice broke in.
“What kind of weapon?” Hongjoong asked him, his tired face darkened with every second that passed.
Minho watched as Yeosang shook his head once again, eyes darkening to match his leaders. “I never figured that out hyung. I followed them as much as I could, but eventually I knew I needed to get down here and report to you what I found. It was only after I heard your confession about Zico’s meetings, and the stray rats accusation against Zico that I managed to piece together what was going on.” the ash blond boy tore his gaze from Hongjoongs and latched back onto San’s who was back to looking at the ground in silence. With a single cough from Yeosang, San’s eyes jumped back up and he stared back, a sea of anger and challenge in them.
“Zico sold us out to The Order San, It’s time to accep-”
San let out a deep growl, interrupting the other boy, with his eyes narrowing harshly “Just because you think you’ve connected shit Yeosang doesn’t mea-”
“Don’t be this love struck idiot San!” Yeosang snarled back, shocking Minho at its ferocity. “The same night I find two Order spies wandering the caves with some sort of secret weapon is the same night that Zico orders an emergency evac? Except for he is going against all of our protocols with an evacuation and says they will be fighting on the front lines, but hasnt once called for us? His best fighters?”
“Well maybe he is wan-” San began to fish for reasons as to why he might have done that, but Yeosang was having none of it.
 “Pair that up with the fact that he has been meeting a mysterious interloper? Making deals? Come on San you are smarter than that!”
With every word said, Yeosang took a closer step towards San, a single hand reaching out to his shoulder once he was close enough.
“I’m sorry” he murmured, sympathy laced in his eyes. “But it's the truth. Deny it now and leave us for him, or accept what is and stay.”
San’s eyes grew wide, like he had just gotten punched in the gut.
“Yeosang!” Wooyoung called “That's going a bit too far don’t you think?”
“Yeosan-” Hongjoong began, eyes flashing uncertainty towards San’s own.
“No,” Seonghwa agreed, all eyes turning towards him. “Yeosang is right. San needs to decide for himself where his loyalties lie once and for all.” his words were jarring, but Minho caught a look of regret etched on his face as if his own words hurt him. When San’s shocked eyes turned towards their eldest, Minho could see his heartache as plain as day.
“San” Seonghwa continued “We all have chosen to follow this group till the ends of the earth have we not? We vowed to stay together forever didn’t we? ” He challenged “From the very beginning we have been together, 8 souls lost to the world but found in a single family. Do not let your blind ideology of Zico shadow that.”
San stood still, deathly still. His eyes were wide but Minho could see his bottom lip trembling, like he was holding back tears. With all eyes on him, San quickly shut his eyes, tensing his entire body as his breathing became rapid and unstable. Minho felt a pang of guilt and sympathy for the young thief but stayed quietly on the sides.
San had to make his choice, and it needed to be soon.
“Ahem” Jisung coughed, breaking the tense conversation. “As much fun as it is for me to watch him suffer. We have more pressing matters don't we?”
The frozen trance on the entire party seemed to break down suddenly,  interrupting the attention focused on San.  Yeosang slipped his hand from his shoulders, nodding once at Jisung’s notion. “Quite right. San knows what he needs to do...let's focus on the issue on hand.”
“Yeosang.” Chan called, agreeing “The weapon. I know you said you didn’t quite figure out what it exactly was but is there anything else you can tell us about it? Did they say how they were going to do it or were they holding anything that might indicate the size of it?”
Yeosang took a few steps back towards the group and away from San, who had grown uncharacteristically quiet. “Now that you mention it….I saw the older woman pull out something from her bag. It was dark, so I couldn’t see clearly but I can tell you it  was something small, something metal….”
Chan’s eyes immediately darkened.
Something metal? Small? What exactly could The Order be hiding in such a small spa-...
Oh no...
Minho's stomach dropped as he realized what it was The Order was planning to test on the underground city. He was almost proud of himself for figuring it out so quickly, but as he turned to look at Chan in confirmation, his self victory was short lived as the gravity of their situation settled in.
“The Virus….” he spoke, almost like a question. Chan nodded once, confirming his fears.
Though it was quiet enough that not everyone heard it, Jisung’s ears twitched backwards and he could see the younger tighten his fists.
Unfortunately Yeosang also seemed to hear his quiet revelation and Minho felt his eyes latch onto his own for the first time, gaze narrowing.
“Virus?” he asked slowly “What Virus?”
Chan, who was still staring directly at Minho, nodded, motioning for him to continue.
Minho felt his skin crawl with the sudden pressure and his mouth opened to explain, but found it running dry with nervousness. Something about revealing the Order's new weapon to them all caused him a great amount of anxiety.
Don’t get him wrong.
It wasn’t like they were planning on keeping it a secret from Hongjoong and the others. They knew if they wanted the other team on their side, they would have to spill the beans on The Orders plan for worldwide control eventually…. but this certainly wasn’t the way they wanted to go about it, especially not with a live test in their midst.
But it would seem Minho would have to wait on that, because suddenly a familiar voice came into range, and Minho’s dread was replaced momentarily with tired relief.
“Chan!” a Woojin called. Eyes all turned in the direction of the voice and Minho caught sight of Woojin’s black hair blowing backwards as they ran towards them, Dowoon not far behind him.
“Woojin!” Chan called back, breathy relief sounding in his voice.
“We were in Dowoon’s basement” he explained with tired puffs as they got closer. “We were studying the stems of the virus when Zico’s announcement came….When he said to evacuate to the center of the city we knew something was wrong and we came to find you guys.”
Woojin bent over as he breathed heavily. “I’m just glad you two are okay.” Chan said, clasping a strong grip on his shoulder once he got close enough.Woojin looked upwards to catch Chan’s gaze, and a similar look of relief was mirrored in him. If it weren't for the blaring sirens overhead, Minho would almost say it was a cute moment between the two older boys.
 Chan smiled once more and tore his gaze from Woojin, looking over his shoulder towards a tired Dowoon, who ran up to Yunho’s side not far off, catching his own breath, “Hyung!” he called. “It’s a trap. The Order means to test the Virus right here right now and the epicenter will be the center of the city where everyone is evacuating to.”
Dowoon’s eyes widened and he pushed his glasses up on his face a bit more “Dear god…”
“Chan” Hongjoong growled, interrupting them as he forced his way forward for the first time “That's the second time the word Virus has been said. Is there something you aren’t telling us?”
All the ones who knew stayed silent in the circle, and Minho felt the leaders darkened gaze on them at once. It was then that Minho now understood why he was the chosen leader. Right then and there did Hongjoong suddenly radiate the intense intimidation that a leader possessed.
“Why exactly did you stray rats come down here?”
This was it. They had to spill the beans no, or risk tarnishing any hopes of an alliance.
Luckily for them, Chan took the initiative, and met Hongjoongs gaze, matching the level of intensity evenly.
“Do you want the full story or the shortened one?” he asked seriously.
“Chan” Hongjoong puffed with impatience.
 “After infiltrating an Order driven facility, we became in the possession of an important canister, stolen from their base.”
“Yes. Yes. We know that much” he barked.
Their leader didn’t seem taken aback by this confession and continued with his explanation. “The reason we came down here was because we believed the canister contained The Order's new weapon. Their next big step towards total control. A virus.Though we studied it intensely, we couldn't figure out what exactly it did so we needed Dowoon to take a look at it.”
Hongjoong face went blank.
“And this virus?” Yunho rolled forward into the clearing, voice mixed with mild worry “What does it do?”
Chan’s eyes casted downward, so Dowoon took this opportunity and stepped forward, looking at the lot. “It’s a behavioral virus.” he explained “While I don’t know exactly how it goes about it, we believe the virus takes a hold of the brain, more specifically the part of your brain that stores your motor control. All I know is that it renders you almost zombie-like and you become a mindless puppet, unable to control your body.”
There were several gasps from the group, and Minho didn’t miss San breaking from his own self pity party to look up in shock. Yunho, whose eyes widened slightly, looked up at Dowoon with more fear on his face than before. “Can such a thing exist?”
Dowoon nodded once, a look of sadness on his face. “I’ve seen it first hand.”
“So Zico” Yeosang surmised, unfazed by such revelation,  “Knowing full well of what The Order had planned, sold us out to become The Orders guinea pigs for this so-called virus?
The clearing was completely silent as they digested Yeosang’s words. Jisung spun around and took turns glaring daggers into each of them, and Minho, who stared back fearfully, understood right away what the younger was trying to say.
He thinks it's too dangerous… he thinks we should get out of here right now.”
But Minho felt a pang of dread rise up in him suddenly at the thought of abandoning the others. Sure, they were all far from friends, but Minho didn’t want to just run and leave them to die at the hands of The Order.
Neither did Chan it would seem, because the older boy gazed evenly at Jisung, a single shake of his head in response. Jisung’s eyes widened, a twinge of anger in them,and he looked ready to argue but was interrupted by a rather pissed off Hongjoong.
“Wooyoung!” the leader barked out , stepping forward and breaking the tension in their air. The silver haired boy in question perked his head at the sound of his name and gazed at his leader carefully.
Not just him, but the others as well, all gazed at Hongjoong with high regard, like they were ready for orders and his own gaze did not falter as he took turns looking each of his members in the eyes with such intensity. “With what we now know about our esteemed leader, can I assume I still have your loyalty?”
The question was for all of them, but Minho couldn't help look towards the lone figure in the center. Only San refused to look his leader in the eyes and he also didn’t miss how Hongjoong’s own eyes flashed towards San’s shrunken figure briefly before falling back onto the group as a whole. There was silence at first, until Minho saw Mingi step forward, Jongho at his side “Until death” they vowed.
Seonghwa stepped forward until he was at his side, placing a single hand on his shoulder “Until death” he agreed.
Wooyoung motioned for his allegiance while Yeosang gave a small nod of approval. Yunho, from where he was at, gave him a cheeky half smile, thumbs up.  Only San remained silent.
Hongjoong nodded his thanks, gaze still fierce “Good then we need to stop their plan.”
“But how will we d-” Seonghwa began to argue. He was quickly shut up when the red haired boy turned his gaze onto him.
“Not now Seong.” he nearly growled at him “We now know what we are dealing with so there is no time to waste. For starters we need to start evacuating the people to the RIGHT place, get them out of the blast zone. Wooyoung!” he ordered again “Take Mingi, and Jongho to the center of town and begin ushering the people to the right place. Whatever happens the people NEED to stay out away from the center of the city. Yunho!” he called, not waiting for a response “Get back to the medical tent now and begin preparing for evacuation! Dowoon help him!” he ordered “While you are doing that, Yeosang I need you to try and track down those two Order spies. If we can stop them before administering the virus, then there will be no need for evacuation. Take Seonghwa with you and hunt them down.”
Seonghwa and Yeosang's gaze darkened and they nodded once in understanding. The others did as well, the respective units grouping up and ready to make their exit at the word from their leader.
Suddenly the clearing was very divided from before. Hongjoongs group and their own group each  clearly on one side. Minho looked to San who was still standing very still in the middle.
“Chan” he heard Woojin mumble quietly.
Their leader seemed to understand right away what the elder was going to say and he nodded his head, his gaze latched onto Hongjoong's face, his own gaze unreadable. “I know. Hongjoong!-” he called towards the younger leader, causing him to turn back around and gaze at him evenly “-What can we do?”
This seemed to catch the red head off guard momentarily and his gaze turned more intense, an eyebrow raising in questioning. But after a few more fierce moments he simply nodded “We will appreciate the help.”
“Dowoon is enough help for Yunho” Woojing quickly intercepted  “I’ll head down with Wooyoung and the others to help with the evacuation.”
Chan starred long and hard at him before nodded once “Be careful”
Woojin nodded, his brown eyes soft as he gazed back at him. “I will be this time” he promised softly.
“Jisung” Chan called turning away from Woojin, who was making his way towards his sub group. “Minho. Go with Woojin and the others and help with the evacuation”
Both of them nodded, understanding.
“What will you do hyung?” Jisung asked cautiously.
Chan turned towards Hongjoong, who stared evenly back at him. A silent conversation passed between the two leaders and no one but them could comprehend what was being said.
“Don’t you worry Jisung” Chan said again quietly, not taking his eyes away from Hongjoong’s “I do believe Hongjoong and myself will be pulling our weight in this operation.”
Minho watched as Hongjoong nodded, like Chan was directing his statement towards him. He then turned his attention towards the group, eyes fierce “No one is allowed to die. Not even the Stray Rats. Is that clear?”
The members of Hongjoong’s group saluted immediately “Sir!” while Minho watched as both Woojin and Jisung nodded in agreement. Suddenly the group began to break apart in their respective groups and Minho watched as both Yeosang and Seonghwa broke away almost immediately towards the stairs.
Both Hongjoong and his own leader headed off in a different direction, faces dark and intense.
He caught Yunho’s eyes longing after Yeosang’s retreating figure before quickly shoving off in the direction of the medical tents.
Everyone was going their separate ways, doing their part in stopping the calamity that they faced. He only hoped they could succeed in stopping it.
With everyone surviving too...
Minho felt a tug at his arm and turned away from the clearing, ready to head down with the already departing group but something stopped him midway, and he turned back towards the center.
San
The blond thief had yet to move, even when his leader and the others made their own exit. His head was hung low and Minho could see his fists still clenched tightly like he was trying to hold back his emotions.
“San….” Minho called out, hoping to get his attention.
“Minho?” Jisung called back, noticing he wasn’t with them.
But Minho ignored him for once, eyes still trailing on San’s frozen figure.
“San.” he called again, taking a step towards him. “I know this must be hard for you..” Minho tried to reason with him “But you can’t throw what you have with them just for one ma-”
“Don’t you think I know that?!” San said venomously, eyes tight shut as he moved for the first time.
Minho stood, unfazed by the younger boy's anger and gazed at him with sadness in his eyes. “Then why didn’t you say anything?”
San lifted his head and glared at Minho, tears in his eyes.
“What?” he growled “You think it's so easy to write someone off like that? Someone you trusted? Someone you respected?”
Definitely not...
“Of course I love my members more than anything.” San continued  “But I looked up to him for so long that…..not having him to look up to is scary….like I don’t know how to move through life now…”
Minho knew all too well what San was saying and he hated how Hyunjae's face immediately came to his mind, plaguing his thoughts once more.
His mind preoccupied for that split second, Minho failed to notice San’s hands tightening up once again.
“No” he said quietly, “I can’t until I know the truth….” San looked up towards the ceiling and suddenly Minho could feel the dangerous aura in him spiking up again. It completely snapped him back to the moment.
“San what-”
“I want to hear it for myself…” San confessed, almost woefully. “Until I hear it from his mouth I can’t move on...”
“San!” Minho tried to reason, knowing all too well that the boy was about to use his super human speed to run. The blond thief flashed his eyes back towards the older boy and for a second Minho thought he could actually see him smiling “ Sorry Minho...I’ll be back.”
And just like that, he vanished, leaving Minho alone in the clearing. He stayed rooted to the spot, eyes widening ever so slightly as his brain finally realized the younger had gone. He looked over in the direction of the stairs, knowing full well where San had run off to.
“Goodbye San” Minho said earnestly, a sad look on his face. “I hope you get the answer you need…”
Without another word, he turned back around and ran in the direction of the others, determined to do his part in saving the underground city. But San’s words seemed to etch themselves in Minho’s brain and he couldn’t help but reflect on them in his own life.
“Until I hear it from his own lips I can’t move on...”
That's right. He had his own Zico he needed to deal with. And he cannot die until he hears the truth with his own ears.
He just hopes he can keep his promise to himself and stay alive.
Spiders and Stuff - 5 Years Later
So I decided to write this because @su-seuls asked me what happened between Jae and Elle. Here you go darling, this is what happened. Hope you all like it even though it’s short.
“I can’t believe you let the girls talk you into a double wedding.” Jae tells Brian as he fixes his tie, Jinyoung makes a noise of agreement from across the room where he’s trying to coax Sungjin into drinking some water. “Why are you so nervous, Jin? You and Birdie have been together for almost seven years.” Jae props his hands on his hips and stares at the witch with a raised eyebrow. “I know but you never know what could happen with us. I’ve already lost her once.” Sungjin says, tears forming on his bottom lashes causing all three of the other men to roll their eyes. As Brian opens his mouth to say something, there’s a knock on the door and Dowoon pops his head into the room. “Are the idiots - I mean grooms ready? Eomma says it’s time.” He grins when Brian and Sungjin glare at him and Jae turns with a grin. “Thanks, pup.” Dowoon nods and withdraws his head.
  “Well let’s go.” Jinyoung ushers the three out of the dressing room and down the hall. Jae wraps an arm around Brian’s shoulders and grins at him before leaning in to whisper in his ear. “Not a damn thing is gonna happen today. There is enough fire power in this building that nothing could possibly go wrong.” Brian nods, his shoulders relaxing as the four of them enter the hall and make their way to the altar. “The music for the girls will start any second now. I hope you boys are ready.” Elle says from where she stands in between the boys and Jae can’t help but notice how beautiful she looks in the midnight blue dress that Shyla and Kyla had agreed on for the maid of honor. “Sungjin got teary eyed again and I’m a little worried about Bri keeping his normal shape but otherwise I think we’re good.” Jae grins at his girlfriend, who laughs and pats both Brian and Sungjin’s arm.
 “You two will be fine, it's just Shyla and Kyla.” She grins mischievously before stretching to place a kiss on Jae’s cheek as the music starts.
  “Get in place.” She orders quietly and the boys move quickly, ending up with Brian and Jae on the left of Elle while Sungjin and Jinyoung are on the right. They all turn to the doors, as they open, to see Shyla and Kyla walking down the aisle with Wonpil in the middle. They’re wearing matching lacy dresses with sheer veils and Jae can see both Brian and Sungjin tearing up so he reaches up to pat Brian’s shoulder. The three walking down the aisle stop a few paces from the altar and the girls look slightly confused.
  “What are you guys doing up here?” Kyla asks, glancing from Jae and Brian to Sungjin and Jinyoung. “Yeah. We’re marrying each other.” Shyla says with a grin as the entire hall laughs at the expressions on the boys’ faces. “Wait…” They say in unison causing everyone to laugh harder. "We're just kidding." Kyla announces hastily upon receiving a glare from Elle. Both girls kiss Wonpil's cheek before taking their places in front of Brian and Sungjin.
  "Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today…" Jae tunes out the rest of what the minister is saying in favor of watching Elle smile. He's brought back to reality by the sound of Brian reciting the vows Jae had helped him write and tries not to laugh at how choked up his best friend sounded.
  After the four of them had said their vows and were officially married, Shyla leans around Brian to pin Jae with a look. "You're not gonna chicken out right?" She asks and he feels his face pale, knowing what she's referring to. "Would you shut the fuck up, Shy?" He almost begs when Brian glances between the two of them. "You're gonna do it right?" Kyla insists, leaning around everyone in her way and Jae sighs deeply. "Yes, I'm gonna do it. Now will the two of you shut up?" Jae glares between the two girls, who both shrug at him. "We just don't want all our planning to be for nothing, Jae." Shyla says as Brian finally raises his eyebrow at her. "Am I missing something?" He asks in confusion causing both girls to grin at him. "Lots of things, sweetheart." Shyla replies, reaching up to pat his cheek as Sungjin and Jinyoung snort.
  "Come on. Let's go." Jae changes the subject and offers his arm to Elle. "What do you have planned, my love?" She asks, wrapping her arm around his and letting him lead her after the newlyweds. "I have nothing planned, beautiful. I can't say the same for the girls." Jae grins at her and she rolls her eyes. They all finally make it to the room for the reception and take their seats. "This is beautiful." Jae hears Jackson mumble to Mark and Youngjae from the next table and smiles to himself. It had taken him, Wonpil and Dowoon almost six hours to decorate the room and he was glad it had turned out well.
  "So we decided," Kyla starts addressing the guests. "That the speeches would be said before the caterer brings out the food." Shyla finishes and Jinyoung stands up to make his speech. Jae can't help but laugh as Jinyoung makes fun of Sungjin for being a crybaby. When Jinyoung sits back down, Jae wipes his sweaty palms on his tuxedo pants and rises from his seat.
  "I wanna start by saying congratulations to Brian and Shyla as well as Sungjin and Kyla. I'm happy for you all. When Bri told me he'd bought a ring, I was surprised not because he was gonna propose but because I thought he already had. Sungjin even having a girlfriend to begin with was a surprise but Birdie is good for him. They eat the same amount so…." Jae trails off as everyone starts laughing. "Bri and Shy have been together for over a decade and Sungjin and Birdie have been together for almost seven years and I'm really glad they finally got hitched." He glances at the four of them to see Brian and Sungjin misty eyed and Shyla and Kyla moving their hands for him to continue.
  "So that should be the end of my speech but there is one more thing I have to say. Five years ago, a lot of things happened that I'm not gonna get into because I don't wanna but the one good thing was that I met the most beautiful woman." He pauses to glance over at Elle, who is giving him a murderous look. "We saved each other's lives and by the look on her face right now I may not live the night." He grins when everyone starts laughing and goes to pull her up. "Elle, I love you and would like to spend the rest of my life with you." He pauses again as he pulls a small box from his pocket. "Will you marry me?" He asks, dropping down to one knee in front of her. She stares at him for long enough to make him fidget before a smile breaks out on her face. "Yes, of course, you idiot." She pulls him up and kisses him before he can slip the ring on her finger and everyone cheers.
Tumblr media
“Do you think Mr. Park will actually give us a pop-quiz today?” Wonpil asks, ferociously flipping through his government textbook.
“I mean, he never gave any in my class last year… but I can’t be sure.”
You watch as your best friend peruses through a section about the advantages of a representative democracy, before turning your attention to something actually worth your while—not that the daily routine of the school cafeteria is any more interesting than government. With kids waiting in line to snatch up the last of the desserts, jocks dodging that one obnoxious freshman that doesn’t know how to take a hint, and social butterflies jumping from table to table, unable to go a day without interacting with their many cliques. Oh, and the lunch ladies pretending to do their job when they’re secretly gossiping about the rich students’ parents.
Only one month until graduation. Better start counting the days.
“Will you help me go over some of this material?” Wonpil asks. “I want to be prepared just in case.”
“You know I wasn’t great with gov,” You reply and inhale another sip of your water. “Why don’t you track down Jae? I’m sure he’s in the library hiding from Chaeyoung.”
“I don’t want to blow his cover.”
“If he doesn’t want to go out with her, he should just tell her.” You snort, wincing as a group of nearby cheerleaders erupt into a rather loud argument.
“You know how he is. He just doesn’t want to let people down.”
Wonpil only receives a hum in response. You were too interested in the drama brewing a couple tables down. Wanting to hear more, you attempt to focus your ears in that direction—even through the typical lunch conversation buzz. Your tries do little, as you can only pick up something about the basketball game on Friday.
“I guess I could see if Sungjin-hyung could help me.” Wonpil says.
Another hum.
...Something about a date… You wonder who the unlucky guy is.
“(Y/N)-noona... Have you spoken to him?”
“-What?” You return your gaze to the boy. This time, with features pulled into a blend of confusion and concern. You shake your head, “No. Why? Is everything okay?”
Wonpil shrugs, “Yeah. I was just wondering is all.”
Aside from you, Sungjin is Wonpil’s closest friend. The two are as inseparable as you and your favorite food. Sungjin tutors during lunch period which is the only reason he’s not with the two of you. After years of knowing Wonpil, you and Sungjin have grown somewhat close. You’d even consider him a close friend too.
“Hey, check it out,” You glance to where Wonpil is pointing toward, only to find it to be a whom. You watch the dark-haired boy make his way through the cafeteria, beelining straight for the rooftop entrance. From here, it was pretty obvious he was attempting to get away from something. And you immediately understand once the cheerleaders hop out of their seats and dash after the male.
Dowoon, the most wealthy and thus, sought after guy in the school has been dealing with these types of girls for as long as you can remember. It’s sad really—especially when you used to be one of those girls.
Although back then, you admired him for his quiet, withdrawn personality rather than his money like most pursuers. Stuff like that has never mattered to you; money can’t buy happiness after all. But anyway, your sophomore heart was torn apart after you confessed to the boy and found he wanted nothing to do with you. You’re pretty sure you cried for weeks.
He was your first crush after all.
“Poor Dowoon.” You murmur to no one in particular as the girls follow him like a hungry pack of wolves. It’s still hard to believe you followed—more like stalked—him like that. Then again, you were naive and practically set on the idea that you and Dowoon were a match made in heaven. That one quiz on the internet never told you otherwise. Nor did those poor flowers you always tore apart.
“I heard his parents forgot his birthday.”
“No way.” You can’t help the disbelief that extends through your voice, “What kind of parents forget their own kid’s birthday?”
He shrugs again, “You’d be surprised.”
Your thoughts grow clouded at the thought. No one deserves to spend their birthdays alone; feeling unloved and unappreciated. Your eyes drift downward to the brownie you packed this morning. You were going to save the treat for a pick-me-up during world history, but you could endure Ms. Suzy’s lectures without a sugar rush. No matter how boring they’ll likely be.
Wonpil’s expression shifts to confusion as you begin to gather your belongings. He opens his mouth to say something, but immediately closes it when he notices the determination blazing in your eyes. His lips upturn, but they don’t mirror exactly that of a smile.
“Good luck on that quiz if you have it,” You say and ruffle your best friend’s hair. “I’ll see you later.”
“Yeah.” He murmurs, “See you later, noona.”
With one final wave, you adjust your backpack strap and head for the door where Dowoon and that group of girls disappeared behind just moments ago. You might be a little late to class, but that’s not a huge deal. The material is easy to make up.
Plus, someone needs you more right now.
Tumblr media
Anxious sparks snake through your nerves like fire-crackers, kickstarting the time-ticking bomb that is your heart. You wipe your sweaty palms against your jeans, although there’s probably no point since they’ll only moisten again. Maybe you should put on your mittens… then again, that’ll just create more sweat.
You were never one of those girls that liked Valentine’s Day. Especially considering the fact you were always the single one in your group of friends. Hell, even Jae managed to land himself a girlfriend this year. The whole tradition of sending bouquets of bright, crimson roses and packets of expensive, exotic chocolates to your lover never struck your fancy, considering the flowers would only wither and the candies were bittersweet anyway. The stupid valentines were always something to laugh at too… especially the ones with horrible poetry.
How hypocritical you are now: Stood outside the school with a red envelope in hand.
 Another chilly gust caresses your face, sending more shivers through your already quivering body. There was still time to back out now—he probably hasn’t even been to his locker yet—and flee to the safety of Wonpil’s house. He’s likely waiting for you with a celebratory cup of cocoa… or a pick-me-up cup.
“(Y/N)-noona? Is that you?”
“Dowoon!” You exclaim, immediately hiding the letter behind your back. The ‘pity-hot chocolate’ long gone from your thoughts.  “You came!”
Dowoon gives you a strange look, which you unfortunately mistake for confusion. He shakes his head, “I guess… Why am I here?”
“I wanted-” You pause to cough, “-I-I wanted to tell you something… something important…”
“About?”
“W-well… it’s kind of about us-” You chuckle bashfully, “I-I, um, I-I-”
The boy sighs impatiently while running a hand down his face. His frustration sends warning bells off in your head, and unfortunately, clears the confession speech you rehearsed over a hundred times in the mirror from your mind. Like an idiot, you stand gaping at Dowoon as his face gradually grows one shade darker after another.
“-I knew this was a bad idea.” Dowoon harshly mutters. He peers over his shoulder, releases another sigh of indifference, then turns to you with a tired expression strewn across his features. “Look, (Y/N)-noona-'' You can’t help but falter beneath his sharp-ish tone. “-Whatever you think is going on between us… is nothing. In fact, there is no us.”
“Wh-what are you talking about?...”
“I’m talking about how you’re just another person who wants to use me for my money, noona.” Dowoon harshly says while beginning to traipse down the front steps, “Nothing is ever going to happen between us, so you need to get this fantasy of you and I out of your head and just leave me alone.”
“Wait!” You lurch forward to grasp the boy’s arm, “It’s not what you think-!”
Dowoon wrenches his sleeve from your fingers, “Just leave me alone, okay! I don’t want to talk to you ever again!”
With watery irises, you watch as Dowoon scurries across the white wonderland that is the front courtyard; crunches of snow growing fainter the further away he runs. Your tears freeze against your cheeks as they slip from your eyes, only increasing the harsh shivers attacking your body. You attempt to wipe them away with the sleeve of your jacket, but it only smears and burns your skin even more.
Your hands are quivering as you bring them forward, revealing the confession letter that now sears at your palms like a cigar. With a sob, you go to tear the package in half when another voice stops you:
“(Y/N)?”
You turn, finding Sungjin stood in the doorway of the school. He takes one look at your tear-stained face and pained stance before lurching forward to take you into his arms. No longer worried about the cold, you release the anguish overcrowding your naive heart, pouring every ounce of rejection into your companion’s shoulder.
“He doesn’t know what he’s missing, (Y/N).” Sungjin hums, rubbing the expanse of your back. “It’s his loss.”
“St-still hurts…” Your whimper causes the boy to tighten his hold around your figure. The extra security slows your tears, gently reducing the volume of your gasps. Hugging Sungjin was always like this. Safe and warm.
You feel his head shake against your shoulder, “‘S not worth it, sweetheart… You deserve so much better…
“I really wish you could see that…”
Tumblr media
So hence went the day where Yoon Dowoon ripped the rug out from beneath your feet,  stomped on your poor heart until there was nothing but broken shards remaining, and left you like you were a piece of trash on the ground. Then again, rejection as a 10th grader seemed like the end of the world at the time, so you’re probably overexaggerating a bit… Maybe a lot.
But as Sungjin told you during then: It really wasn’t worth it. Dowoon was just one of many set-backs in your book of life, one obstacle that you managed to overcome, though it took quite a few cartons of ice-cream and marathons of sad romance movies.
You push against the heavy metal door to the roof with a heave, barely managing to catch your foot on a loose piece of concrete. The obstacle protests, a high-pitched squeak resonating as it swings open. Not even a step through the doorway, a cringe travels through your body at the nasty glare lasering your direction, belonging to an elegantly-uniformed, and rather pissed off, cheerleader. Dowoon had yet to meet your eyes.
“What are you doing here?” The Head Cheerleader—Nayeon, if you recall—spits the words as if they are venom. While anyone would be intimidated by her tone, you knew better, considering she dated Sungjin back in the spring of junior year. Why, you still don’t know, since Sungjin isn’t the ‘cheerleader’ type. The guy’s a dork for goodness sake.
“Just passing through,” You shrug, “and was hoping to talk to Dowoon for a sec.”
Nayeon narrows her eyes, “I don’t think so-”
Another cheerleader, Sana, places her hand on the group leader’s shoulder, “-C’mon, unnie, the bell’s about to ring anyway.”
Her laser-like eyes soften at the younger girl’s warning, a short nod soon following her silence. You move aside as Sana and the other cheerleaders pile their way through the doorway, not without Nayeon sending you one last daggered-glare. She’s probably still pissed about that prank Wonpil and you played on her last year. But in your guys’ defense, it was originally meant for Sungjin.
It takes a moment for the realization to sink in that it was only you and Dowoon left on the roof. You take a quick peek at the younger boy, who again, would not meet your eyes. Instead, his focus was trained onto his phone, thumb mindlessly scrolling against the screen. An annoyed huff drips past your lips at his apparent indifference, one thing that hasn’t seemed to change since Valentine’s Day of sophomore year.
Instead of backing down, you narrow the distance between the two of you and shove at Dowoon’s shoulder, effectively snatching his attention in the form of widened eyes and a confused expression. He lowers his phone and plucks the airpods from his ears rather awkwardly—it was almost cute.
“Hey.”
“Hi.” Dowoon returns your greeting with a soft smile, “It’s been awhile, (Y/N)-noona.”
“You could say that,” You shrug. “Do you mind if I join you?”
“Hm? Oh, no! Not at all! Here,” The boy feverishly slides his backpack away from his side, clearing a place for you to lower right beside him. You make yourself as comfortable as possible against the concrete, before offering the foil-wrapped treat.
“I heard it was your birthday, so I figured I’d give you this.”
Dowoon unwraps the brownie, his face contorting to all types of wonder as he stares at the treat. He shyly rubs the back of his neck, “Wow… Thank you, noona.”
“You’re welcome. Everyone should get something on their birthday.” You move to rise again, having completed your set task. “I hope you have a special day-”
“-Wait, noona.” Dowoon places a hand on your knee, stopping you from climbing to your feet. Surprised by his sudden reluctance for your departure, you lower back onto the ground with a furrowed expression.
The boy quickly removes his hand, “Sorry… I just… I just wanted to apologize…”
“Apologize? For what?”
Dowoon sighs, “For the way I treated you that day… That was so not cool of me.”
To say you’re surprised by his apology would be an understatement. In the long time since you’ve gotten over Dowoon, you never once thought that he would ever atone for his harsh behavior. Then again, you never thought you’d speak to him ever again after that day either.
“Oh… It’s okay. I understand why you did.” You send the boy a gentle smile, “If I had a bunch of girls following me around 24/7, I’d be pretty annoyed too.”
“Yeah, well, it still doesn’t make up for the fact I flat out broke your heart.” Dowoon says remorsefully.
“I got over it.”
“I just… feel bad.” For some reason, his words lift an imaginary weight off of your shoulders. One that you hadn’t realized was there.
You move forward to wrap your arm around the junior’s shoulders. At first, he tenses at your touch, but gradually leans into your friendly embrace. With your other hand, you pat at his bicep with a chuckle, “You’re forgiven, Dowoon. Consider it another birthday present.”
Dowoon laughs at your retort, but you can tell your pardon of his past actions relieved a weight of his own chest. “Thanks, noona.”
“Of course. Now eat your brownie before I change my mind and eat it myself.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
While Dowoon devours his birthday treat, the two of you catch up on each other’s lives like old friends. You tell him about the worst of your senioritis, along with some current plans for the world after high school. In return, he spills some juicy secrets about his time on the basketball team—and by juicy secrets, you mean how the school’s loner, Younghyun, got into a fight with the coach because he wouldn’t let him on the team. How chaotic.
Gym class was never your favorite subject. Most classes, you and some other friends would pack yourselves in the alcove underneath the bleachers, partly to avoid any sort of participation, and partly out of the fear of being crushed by the actual athletes. This time was spent catching up on the latest drama and juicy gossip…Funnily enough, this was also where  Dowoon caught your eye for the first time.
He was a freshman at the time, challenging a bunch of seniors to a game of basketball. While your friends drooled over his defined muscles and tight butt, you admired his technique and obvious knowledge of the sport. Whenever an enemy would head his way, Dowoon would mind game them. Whether it be faking a pass, or a particular direction, he always managed to overpower the other and score. Sometimes a two pointer. Most times a three.
He was also clearly passionate about the sport, something that immediately caused your infatuation with him in the first. And by the way he talks about his team and this year’s season, he’s still very, very passionate. You’re happy to know he hasn’t lost that spark.
“-so are you going to come to the game, Friday?” You backtrack from your thoughts at Dowoon’s question, just realizing his hopeful eyes set on yours. “It’d be nice to have a friend there.”
“I’ll be there. Sunjin’s one of my best friends, so Wonpil and I kind of have to be.”
“I know. He talks about you a lot.”
You laugh, “All good things, I hope.”
“Definitely. He pretty much worships the ground you walk on.”
“Oh,” Your laugh falters. “He’s a good friend.”
Dowoon sends you a strange look, “Right. A good friend.”
You don’t like the awkward change in the atmosphere, choosing this time to bid the younger boy a farewell and actually go to class before the office phones your parents about your disappearance. On the way down the stairs, your mind drifts back to that Valentine’s Day. More specifically, the moment where Sungjin eased the pain of your first rejection. That’s one thing you’ve always loved about him: He’s always there for you when you need him most.
Lately things have been… different though. You barely see your friend anymore, even during school hours. While it’s not much of a surprise, considering Sungjin is senior class president, leader of the basketball team, and on his way to being valedictorian of your class, it’s still concerning. Especially Wonpil’s comment earlier about talking to him… He couldn’t be actively avoiding you, could he?...
“Ms. (L/N)?” You snap out of your inner monologue at the call of your name, a wave of embarrassment emerging at the sight of Mr. Park, your principal, standing in the doorway of the lunchroom. “I believe you are aware that class has begun?” Without bothering to answer, you dash out into the hallway toward your Physics classroom. Even beneath the anxiety of receiving a detention—Sungjin still lingered somewhere in the back of your mind.
And you didn’t like the strange feeling stirring inside your chest.
