say what you will abt dr. singh but him being prime minister was the last time india had any semblance of a decent PM. atleast he wasn't throwing ppl in jail for protesting him or sending ED officials to the homes of ppl that criticized him. he didn't sow communal hatred to garner votes. he held press conferences (something this country has not seen in more than a decade lol) were reporters ripped him apart with questions but he answered them with grace. he was a true economist who lifted millions of indian ppl out of poverty in his lifetime. rip dr. singh.

Some lives that shaped Southasia
The loss of three Southasian luminaries in December 2024  – Bapsi Sidhwa, Shyam Benegal, and Dr. Manmohan Singh — marks the end of an era. Although they approached their lives and work in different ways, their contributions were deeply shaped by the challenges of navigating postcolonial Southasia, a region marked by the scars of Partition, cultural transformation, and economic change. The Quiet Architect of India's Economic Renaissance: Dr. Manmohan Singh (1932-2024)
In the corridors of history, certain figures walk not just as mere individuals but as epochs unto themselves. Dr. Manmohan Singh, who departed this world on December 26, 2024, at the venerable age of 92, was such a figure. A man of quiet dignity, profound intellect, and unshakable resolve, he transformed India’s economic landscape and catapulted the nation onto the global stage.
Born on September 26, 1932, in a modest village in Punjab—then under British India—Dr. Singh's life was a testament to the power of perseverance and education. Orphaned at an early age, he rose above his circumstances, excelling at the University of Cambridge and later earning a doctorate from Oxford. The boy from the village of Gah—now in Pakistan—grew to become a custodian of India's destiny, orchestrating reforms that would define generations. Expand to read
