A month from today, I'm moving away. Maybe for good. It feels weird to think about. And a little sad. Like, I know I'll always be able to come back and visit (and I most certainly will), but the visits may become shorter, less frequent. I wonder if/when I will stop considering this place to be my home. That's a strange transition. Like thinking about how, one day sometime in the past, one of my parents set me down and then never picked me back up again. I was a kid who could be carried until I was not. I am a member of this household until I am not. And I mean I'm still holding on to my identity as a Person Who Lives Here. I don't intend to change my state residence, so I'll still vote here even though I'll live several states away. I'll pay my taxes to this state. I think it's because leaving the nest, like for real, is a scary thing to do. I sort of cosplayed living as an adult in my college apartment. Paying rent, cooking for myself most days, buying groceries. But whenever I wanted, I could still go back to a place where there were people looking out for me. That's not really an option where I'm going. There's no convenient emotional safety net just half an hour away there. Just me. Alone.

Part of my really wants to get packing. I'm so incredibly excited. The rest of me is stuck in a bit of paralysis because I'm also a little anxious.

So there's a bit of ~drama~ happening on tiktok where some elegance creator (I don't consume elegance content, a lot of times it seems to have eurocentric undertones, among other things, that make me uncomfortable) made a video about how lining your lips with a dark color and putting gloss on top is not elegant and she exclusively showed examples of black women and then, to say the quiet part out loud, she said that she didn't understand why people were so obsessed with having "massive" lips. Of course, of course, people took her to class, including the ever-elegant classy fav Jackie Aina, and she hasn't as of yet issued an apology. Anyway that's never been a lip style that I've tried, but I gave it a go with a Dose color combo that I always thought was too ashy to use but too expensive to throw away, and it looks so good??? With a good blend between the colors, it actually feels super sleek. Anyway, I now have an alternative to just wearing basic single-color lips (for whenever I decide to stop wearing masks all the time, I guess).

Today I'm thankful that the two movies I saw today, They Cloned Tyrone and Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves were both supremely fun. The first one was a bit of a whim with my parents, and under all the vulgarity there really was a thought-provoking message. The second one I've wanted to see for ages, and I liked it a lot!!! Very DnD :)

Ensaio: O Resgate de Alagboriel

Este ensaio foi escrito como trabalho final da disciplina Exercício da Cena II com o professor Edson Fernando no curso de Licenciatura em Teatro, na Escola de Teatro e Danca da Universidade Federal do Pará - ETDUFPA.

INTRODUÇÃO

Neste mesmo ano de 2022, há alguns meses, apresentei meu trabalho de conclusão de curso na Licenciatura em Teatro da Escola de Teatro e Dança da Universidade Federal do Pará (ETDUFPA). O trabalho, intitulado “Crossplay – A liberdade da fluidez de gênero em minhas práticas de cosplay”, trouxe uma coletânea cronológica de minha experiência de vinte anos nessa nova forma de fazer teatro, que tem apenas algumas décadas, mas com uma comunidade cada vez maior e mais presente em eventos culturais.

Cosplay é um jogo de palavras entre “Costume” e “player”, ou seja, é a pessoa que monta o figurino e maquiagem de um personagem, seja ele de uma obra famosa ou não, e depois o interpreta, tanto em performance em espaços teatrais tradicionais ou eventos de cultura pop. O “Crossplay”, do TCC, é uma variante de cosplay com crossdressing, quando a pessoa faz um cosplay de um personagem cujo gênero é oposto. Para nós, nesse trabalho, focaremos mais no cosplay.

Considerando que uma das consequências da pandemia de Covid foi o isolamento social, e o fechamento de vários estabelecimentos, muitas empresas e serviços recorreram ao atendimento online. Porém, o setor artístico com certeza foi um dos mais atingidos: apesar de muitos artistas começarem a criar conteúdo para a internet, aqueles que vivem o teatro, em todos os seus setores, viram uma interrupção brusca de suas atividades. Com a comunidade cosplayer não foi diferente. Os grandes eventos de cultura pop e mesmo outros eventos públicos onde os cosplayers geralmente “se infiltram” também sofreram grandes limitações, sendo que alguns grupos que promoviam esses eventos até deixaram de existir. Alguns cosplayers, no entanto, seguiram o exemplo dos artistas de teatro e começaram a criar conteúdo online.

Muitas disciplinas da Licenciatura em Teatro permitiram o uso de multimídia para as avaliações, onde eu tive a experiência de fazer em vídeo o que foi impossível, naquele momento, fazer ao vivo. E apesar da pesquisa para o TCC ter feito com que pensasse novamente em cosplay, algo no qual não atuava desde o ano de 2018, me faltava voltar à prática e a todo o processo que ela proporciona.  Alguns fatores – que veremos posteriormente - contribuíram para que eu voltasse especificamente a um dos primeiros personagens que interpretei como cosplayer, personagem original que daria liberdade de criar algo sem amarras. Nesse momento, começou então o resgate da elfa Alagboriel, para não só ambientar-se novamente em seu mundo, como dar início ao processo de recriação de um cosplay cuja última aparição havia sido em 2014.

O processo de criação de um cosplay não envolve apenas o personagem, mas toda a elaboração da performance, incluindo maquiagem, objetos de cena, figurino, cenários (quando convém), trilha sonora etc. o que faz do cosplayer não só atuante, mas também diretor de sua performance. Alguns cosplayers fazem personagens de filmes e séries, ou ainda quadrinhos e jogos, o que lhes permitem usar uma obra já existente. No caso de Alagboriel, o texto também é de minha autoria, embora as inspirações sejam as obras de J.R.R. Tolkien (mais especificamente O Senhor Dos Anéis) e jogos como Dungeons & Dragons e World Of Warcraft. Mesmo criando semanalmente conteúdo online para esta personagem, o retorno dos grandes eventos culturais trouxe motivação para a performance de Alagboriel vir ao palco do próximo Anime Geek, que acontecerá nos dias 17 e 18 de dezembro de 2022. Para a comunidade cosplayer, esta edição é especial não somente por ser a volta no pós-pandemia, mas por celebrar os 15 anos do evento. Mas as performances de Alagboriel não se limitarão a apenas essa apresentação, nos planos iniciais da autora, haverá outros tipos de conteúdo a serem criados.

QUEM É ALAGBORIEL

Alagboriel Fharen Heruion é uma das protagonistas de Undomeion, mundo criado por Erika Fiore e inspirado nas fantasias medievais, nas histórias infantis de capa e espada e contos de fada, Role Playing Games e o desenho Caverna do Dragão, filmes como O Senhor dos Anéis, Mestres do Universo e Conan, entre várias outras influências. Na história, Alagboriel começa como uma jovem elfa em um treinamento de caçadora para posteriormente servir a seu reino, mas já no primeiro dia foge para conhecer outra cidade e então começa sua primeira aventura. As histórias a acompanham por vários anos, e incluem também alguns de seus descendentes.

A personagem nasceu em uma partida de Dungeons & Dragons, um RPG (Role Playing Game ou jogo de interpretação de papéis, na tradução do inglês), e foi se desenvolvendo nessas histórias criadas durante o jogo, e depois em fan art (quando o fã faz sua arte inspirada na obra), tanto em desenhos e pinturas, como no próprio Cosplay. Com o tempo, a autora foi escrevendo contos e expandindo o mundo, criando novos lugares, personagens e situações, até ter o universo de Undomeion.

Recentemente, por conta da criação de conteúdo digital, percebi necessária a criação de um perfil na rede social Instagram(https://www.instagram.com/alagboriel/), e outro no site de blogs Tumblr (http://alagboriel.tumblr.com/), para divulgação e registro dos processos envolvendo a personagem. Esse passo foi importante para organizar a cronologia e o material digital que havia disponível (neste momento, outros materiais serão ainda digitalizados para serem incluídos online). Esse foi um dos fatores importantes citados anteriormente para que esse personagem fosse a escolha da autora, pois acompanhar outros criadores de conteúdo de fantasia e aventura ajudam na criação, seja com dicas ou apenas inspiração, e ter esse material organizado em um blog facilitaria consultas posteriores.

Outro fator que contribuiu para que me voltasse a esse universo de fantasia foi um de meus hobbies mais recentes, o jogo World of Warcraft, que é jogado em tempo real com vários jogadores, em servidores Europeus, na Ásia e nas Américas. O lore (história de origem) do jogo também acontece em um mundo fantástico, com elfos e dragões. Há pouca diferença visual entre World of Warcraft e as obras inspiradas em Senhor dos Anéis, por exemplo.

Um terceiro fator é uma tendencia recente que tem se espalhado por várias redes sociais de mostrar imagens de inspiração Whimsical (palavra em inglês que serve para definir algo que é caprichoso, extravagante, mágico.), tanto em roupas - como a subcultura do cottage core – quanto até mesmo em decoração de interiores. A tendência do Whimsical tem lembrado fortemente o estilo Art Nouveau, e muitas pessoas têm buscado inspiração nas obras do estilo. O estilo élfico, em arquitetura, moda e design tem influências claras do Art Nouveau. Todos esses fatores têm algo em comum: o entretenimento pelo escapismo, que de certa forma também é o objetivo da performance como Alagboriel.

A produção da performance começa centralizada no visual da personagem. Desenhos das roupas e desenhos de inspirações de cenas, e até mesmo storyboards, podem fazer parte do início desse processo de criação. Então deve ser feita uma lista do que será usado em cena, figurino, maquiagem, adereços, cenários. Cada um desses componentes custará tempo e dinheiro, por isso um cosplayer pode levar até um ano (ou mais) nesse planejamento. Vem então o planejamento de uma espécie de calendário, onde cada um desses itens tem um prazo para estar pronto. A ordem desses itens pode variar dependendo de fatores como disponibilidade de materiais (se é possível adquirir em loja física ou se deve ser comprado na internet), disponibilidade financeira para a compra do material, mão de obra (um cosplayer pode decidir encomendar um adereço ou figurino com um profissional de costura ou mesmo um cosmaker – pessoas especializadas em fazer cosplays), ou mesmo a disponibilidade de tempo do próprio praticante, se este preferir construir o próprio cosplay. Muitos cosplayers ainda veem a atividade como hobby, por isso são poucos os cosmakers aqui no Brasil (na América do Norte, Europa e Ásia a popularidade de cosmakers é proporcional à popularidade do cosplay.).

ESTRUTURA DA PERFORMANCE

Com relação à infraestrutura do evento Anime Geek, e o espaço para apresentação dos cosplayers, geralmente o evento conta com um palco central (palco italiano) onde também acontecem outras atrações, como entrevistas com convidados e shows de bandas. As apresentações de cosplays são divididas em duas categorias: desfile, onde o cosplayer apenas mostra o personagem montado – pode andar e falar como o personagem, mas essa apresentação é mais breve – e apresentação, onde o cosplayer, individualmente ou em grupo, apresenta uma cena entre três e cinco minutos. Para este evento, Alagboriel entra no palco, apresenta-se para o público e senta-se em um tronco para contar uma história de Undomeion (em forma de leitura dramática), sobre a primeira aventura de Alagboriel, onde ela foge para outra cidade e seu treinador de caça segue pistas para encontrá-la e fazer seu resgate. Posteriormente ao evento, a personagem funcionará com contação de histórias em diversos lugares.

A CONSTRUÇÃO DE ALAGBORIEL – INTERPRETAÇÃO

A verdade na cena através de uma atuação mais naturalista é o carro chefe do sistema Stanislavski, autor com quem trabalhei fortemente na construção da interpretação da Alagboriel principalmente por conta da sua inclinação para peças de fantasia. Durante a montagem do Pássaro Azul de Maurice Maeterlinck, de 1908, Stanislavki trabalhou em ensaios de improviso com seus atores, para estimular sua imaginação, como por exemplo imitar animais, ou procurar fazer a mesma cena de formas diferentes, criando novas coisas a cada tentativa. O uso de memória afetiva e memória emocional, trazendo uma resposta comportamental à uma ação física, também foi bem trabalhado por Stanislavski, e eu pude lapidar essa habilidade durante a disciplina Dramaturgia do Ator na Licenciatura em Teatro, com o professor Alberto Silva Neto, onde trabalhei a busca dessa resposta emocional para a verdade na cena, usando a resposta de uma vivência anterior. Basicamente, para interpretar Alagboriel, como o próprio Stanislavski sugeriu em um texto de 1909, o “E se?” é o indutor. E se eu fosse uma elfa? E se eu tivesse histórias do meu povo para contar? Assim, através de uma análise ativa, a melhor forma de entender uma peça é “tomar ação ante as circunstâncias”.

O teatro pobre de Grotowski ajuda a produção da performance de Alagboriel de se afastar do exagero das grandes produções que influenciaram sua criação, e permite uma liberdade maior no uso do corpo para a imaginação desse ambiente, excluindo assim tudo que se tornaria supérfluo. Alagboriel fica basicamente dependendo apenas de suas histórias, de suas roupas e um lugar para sentar-se. Por ter estudado profundamente Stanislavski, Grotowski intensificou o trabalho das habilidades do ator de interagir diretamente com o público, defendendo que o trabalho deste deve ser de total entrega, abrindo completamente seu emocional e sensibilidade. A força da vocalização ao exteriorizar as emoções, reforçando-as, sublinhando ou mesmo as parodiando também se torna importante complemento na performance. Trabalhar com Grotowski nunca foi tarefa fácil, pois existem muitos bloqueios em mostrar-me vulnerável, porém, os resultados são muito mais intensos e verdadeiros. Ao “estar Alagboriel”, eu libero muito da minha autêntica natureza, das minhas vivências, alegrias e traumas nas entrelinhas dessas histórias. Se Stanislavski dizia que “a imaginação é mais poderosa que a memória” e Grotowski disse que “se você quer criar uma obra de arte, deve evitar belas mentiras”, Alagboriel se torna um trabalho híbrido, deixando ao público, no ar, o quanto da emoção por trás das histórias são realmente fantasia.

SOBRE O PUBLICO ALVO

O público-alvo das histórias de Alagboriel é um público variado, justamente pela diversidade de histórias, que podem ser adaptadas para o público infantil, infanto-juvenil e adultos, sem alterar a narrativa, apenas a linguagem. Fãs de filmes, séries e jogos de fantasia se sentirão mais contemplados pois esse público permite o uso de uma linguagem mais “niche”, com nomes de criaturas, por exemplo, mais conhecidos por esse público específico.

SOBRE A AUTORA

Erika Fiore é atriz, cosplayer, cosmaker, youtuber e elfa de coração. Graduanda do curso de Licenciatura em Teatro pela Escola de Teatro e Dança da Universidade Federal do Pará (ETDUFPA). Trabalha como atriz desde 2013, tendo feito comerciais e peças de teatro, além de ter participado do Festival de Ópera em 2014 em Mefistófele. Atuou no grupo de Teatro Marista em Sonhos de Uma Noite de Verão de William Shakespeare como Titânia no mesmo ano, e no filme A Besta Pop em 2018, pelo qual ganhou prêmio de melhor atriz coadjuvante no festival de cinema Maranhão na Tela. É praticante da arte do cosplay desde 2002, quando criou a personagem Alagboriel, e intercala seus trabalhos como atriz com inúmeros cosplays de animes, filmes, séries e jogos, sempre envolvida em todos os processos de construção dos personagens.

I have a few things to help with the ache of missing being a dragon: Etsy sells all sorts of coins for low prices Nests!!! Squish blankets/pillows into a nest shape (make sure its big enough for you) and pile some of your hoard into it (be careful with sharp things) If you have access to a swing, tie a blanket/cape to your wrists so that it resembles wings, and swing! Also with the makeshift wings you can run down hills. Etsy also sells all sorts of cosplay wings Hope i helped!

Maybe you remember the ask about the favourite heros/villans of the bittys so.. me and my papyton Sirius planed something for the bitties in the shop~

We prepared some of the Cosplays in wich we want to visit the lamias in the shop on Halloween!  We have different cosplay so we could change to show as much as we can and play a bit with them. at the end Sirius could show up as the Pumkin King Jack Skellington to give some Candys to the bittys. I really hope they will enjoy this little surprise~

It is Halloween Day, and the Lamia Bittybones Adoption Center is in complete chaos. Edgar is allowing the older hatchlings to take part in the festivities, but the little beepers and peepers are safely tucked away in the nursery with the door firmly closed to keep them from being frightened.

Vex keeps putting up decorations in an attempt to create a Halloween mood, but her efforts are thwarted at every turn. She placed a line of fake rats along the windowsill, but the Mambas hunted them to extinction along with the bats dangling from the ceiling. Fake cobwebs were quickly swept away by neat and tidy Papythons.

Vex tried hanging Halloween-colored lights in orange and purple, but they inexplicably ended up inside of the Commander nest. Vex asked for them back, but since she wasn’t on the guest list for the exclusive Commander Gang Halloween Party, Belle refused to let her in. Exasperated, Vex hung up last minute crepe paper streamers, but Corals couldn’t resist the texture of the crinkled paper, and the decorations were quickly torn away and hidden in various hoards around the shop.

Fortunately, Vex didn’t have to worry about the candy for the party. Decoy candy bowls had been placed throughout the shop that morning to lure the lamias away from the real stash- locked away in Vex’s filing cabinet drawer. Sure enough as the day progressed, brightly colored Japanese candies vanished into the Commander nest. The Laffy Taffy bowl could be seen upended near the anti-venom fridge.

Corals feigned indifference, but every few seconds a quick little hand darted into a bowl of salted caramels and pocketed a few. The Mambas eagerly collected their bowl of super sour candies, looking forward to the puckered mouth and swollen tongue sensation only to find that some prankster Cornies had removed all of the sour candies from the wrappers and replaced them with rocks!

Even poor Honey the Pappy puppypapri has been tricked! The older hatchlings convinced him that he needed to restock the filing cabinet, and when he unlocked the bottom drawer, they absconded with the candy! Now they are all in the infirmary with tummy aches being tutted at by the Nurse Papythons for eating too many sweets!

The holiday seems destined to dissolve into pandemonium when you show up to save the day with your Papython Sirius and a series of entertaining and impressive cosplays. The shop falls silent, and lamia bittybones crowd around when you come through the door dressed as Toothless and Hiccup. Mambas cheer to see their favorite dragon hero and his human friend paying them a visit.

Edgar peeks out of the nursery and sees that your outfits are very hatchling friendly, so he leads the baby lamias out of the nursery to watch the show. Adult lamia move aside to give the little ones the best viewing spots. Larger full-sized Kings let the smallest babies perch atop their heads. 

Even Butter is allowed out of the nest to participate in the festivities. He’s not entirely sure what’s going on because it’s his first Halloween, but he yells BOO! a lot since it seems like the thing to do. Each time he BOOs, the Kings flare their hoods in mock fright, making baby Butter giggle. You take advantage of the distraction to change outfits in a room in the nursery, emerging next as Lilo and Stitch.

The Corals go crazy. They point and cheer, completely forgetting that they are supposed to be too cool and tough to enjoy cosplays of their favorite character. Several of them hold up crayon drawings showing their badness levels which they estimate to be unusually high for lamias of their size (claims of badness are greatly exaggerated).

All of the lamias are impressed by the Coco character cosplays; they love skeleton characters. Of course every Honey Bo in the shop recognizes Miguel and Hector. Despite the lamias not having feet, the Honey Bos have found a collection of slippers and flip-flops to shake at Ernesto. After Ernesto’s “retreat” (for an outfit change), the Honey Bos slither around proudly.

The sight of the next characters- Sonic and Amy- sets off a flurry of activity in the shop. A whirlwind of Pygmies zoom in excited circles around their heroes, showing off their own magnificent speed. A friendly and helpful Chain tosses some gold-colored rings into the air, and the Pygmies leap and backflip to catch them, presenting them to Sonic (and a few, blushingly, to Amy).

The grand finale makes the crowd go wild. Of course every lamia bitty has seen The Nightmare Before Christmas! Kings, Papythons, and Mambas alike all love Jack Skellington’s impeccable style. A whisper of “pretty” travels through the crowd as they admire your Sally cosplay. Hearing all of the cheering, Butter slithers forward to insert himself into the commotion. The crowd goes silent, wondering what he will do.

“BOO,” shouts Butter at Sirius. Apparently he wants to challenge this strange skeleton lamia in the only way he knows how. Always a good sport, Sirius crouches down to Butter’s eye level.

“It looks like we have a new Pumpkin King,” he declares to deafening applause. Sirius glances quickly at Syrup, who nods. Sirius scoops up baby Butter and holds him high while the other lamias chant “Pumpkin King!” Butter wiggles with joy at the attention and ends up falling asleep in Sirius’ arms, tired out from all of the excitement.
