More Dragon Idioms

"summer at the Wyrmwound" - a really, really bad smell. Used mostly outside Plague territory. "swap wind" - literally, the practice of alternating position when flying in formation, as the dragon taking rear expends less energy. Figuratively, any situation in which favors are exchanged, similar to the expression "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours". "Viridian mile" (or appropriate unit of distance measure) - a task that is far more difficult than it appears to be from the outside, or appeared to be before it was undertaken. Refers to the thickly-grown terrain of the Viridian Labyrinth, which can turn a normally unimpressive unit of ground travel into a demanding and dangerous distance. "I'm your charge" - equivalent to "I'm in your hands". The dynamic between guardians and their charges is so embedded in dragon society that it's often referred to to lend context to similar (but less crucial) interactions. "choke down the haunch" - to do something unpleasant to achieve a desired end. Refers to a folk tale in which a tundra dragon must hunt and eat with a mirror pack in order to win their respect and help with a greater task, despite not being a carnivore. "making rocs out of sparrows" - making mountains out of molehills, exaggerating a problem to oneself or others. "Arcane hello" - meeting by accident through shared participation in an unpleasant event (like being attacked by harpies and forced to shelter together). A small family of idioms appends "Arcane" to nouns to imply versions of those things "gone wrong". They're not very appreciated by Arcane dragons. "wintercoated" - metaphorically, having thick skin, being able to shrug off criticism unpleasant experiences. Originates with tundras' thick winter coats.

I see a lot of artists with LOW USD to Gem ratios.

So I thought I’d make a short post about how I do my ratio? 

A real easy way to know what to price your stuff, is to just go see the USD to Gem ratio that Flight Rising already has set up. 

500 gems for $5 USD? At that ratio its 100g for $1. I usually don’t count the extra gems that Flight Rising tacks onto the larger gem purchases and just stick to that ratio. So $10:1000g, $20:2000g and so on.

So that's simple enough...

But then there was treasure... 

Ratios for USD/Gems to treasure gets a bit tougher. Every shop is different because the economy fluctuates all the time.

Assuming you assigned your shop to have a 1g:1¢ ratio, let's hash out some treasure prices for $1 and 1¢ based on some different popular ratios.  Popular Ratios include: 1:500. 1:550 (probably only those for adopt shops.) and 1:600, 1:650, 1:700, and 1:750. 

I use the gem amount to calculate the prices. So, at a 1:650 ratio, my $32 drawing would be about 3200 gems x 650 =  2,080,000t

All of that said, feel free to price your art however you want. I just want to make sure everyone knows what they’re getting for their art.  Hope this helps!

Also, also, I want to say something.

So being serious for a moment. I know the year-one veterans are experienced and prepared for anything to happen but for the newer players:

There are going to be a lot of people on tomorrow. No but listen okay, a LOT of people. People will be coming back from breaks out of curiosity/excitement, and we just had an open registration. We are all going to be stressing their systems with our zeal for hatching all the babies.

There are strong chances the sight might lag, or fully go down.

If it does, please don’t panic or get angry at them, they’ll get the site up asap, they’re much better at recovering from crashes. 

It’s okay to get frustrated if the site goes down and you can’t see your babies. But please don’t yell at the admins or attack them unnecessarily. That won’t help them get the site up faster. We can all sit outside the gate and vibrate intensely together waiting for that little green light lol!!

Some Dragon Idioms

"Smoke follows fire." - refers to the blindingly obvious consequences of actions. Has poetic uses, but often used as a casual quip along the lines of "well what the hell did you think that was going to accomplish?" after someone has done something impressively stupid. "four-eyes" - has nothing to do with glasses or nerdiness. A "four-eyed gaze" is an intense stare that makes the recipient feel like they're being sized up or seen through, akin to the focused, unwavering stare a mirror dragon trains on its prey. "skysight" - like the word eyesight, but specifically referring to a dragon's range of vision while flying. something "within skysight" might be much further away than something that's only "within sight".
