📐 Quick Perspective = 3 sets of parallel lines!
We started with a plan to do some fan art of my buddy Jim Lujan's character John Henry Unicorn, but the chat asked a simple question about a difficult topic… PERSPECTIVE!!!
If you really want to learn perspective, go to this guy… JON MESSER https://www.jonmesserartclass.com/
I took a class in-person with him years ago and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. I've learned so much from him. And he's a kind, funny, and encouraging teacher to boot!

The Dance of Light and Shadow: Understanding Form and Depth
In the world of sketching, light and shadow play pivotal roles in bringing two-dimensional drawings to life. Each object, regardless of its shape or complexity, casts its own unique shadow, dictated by the direction and intensity of the light source. From the sharp-edged shadow of the cube to the soft, curved shadow of the cylinder, the interaction between light and form defines depth, volume, and realism.
This study explores how light behaves when it strikes different surfaces—whether it’s a flat plane, a curved cylinder, or a complex irregular shape. Notice how the areas closest to the light source are illuminated as highlights, gradually transitioning into mid-tones before plunging into deep shadows. This contrast creates the illusion of depth and gives objects their three-dimensional appearance.
Mastering light and shadow is essential for any artist, as it helps in understanding perspective and form. It teaches us how to visualize light wrapping around objects and how shadows ground them in space. This knowledge not only enhances realism but also adds drama and emotion to artwork.

I've done a lot of work in my absence, I got my Kofi up and began working on its page immediately. I now have two P2U bases up (one for furries, the other for female human as shown above), two F2U bases (also shown above, download it from Kofi for the best quality), and an adopt (something I'm also selling, which is also using the base I'm selling).
If you'd like to buy anything or, want to use the free bases you can find my Kofi at Madame_Noir.

Today I had a go at practicing the basics of drawing using the new critical role series “Pub Draw”. So far I’ve done the first three sessions and am slowly finding my mojo for drawing again. I love the Pub Drawing series and hope one day I can join a live session so I can enter the contests. If you haven’t heard of critical role or pub drawing you should definitely check them out. 10/10 would recommend. . . . . #drawing #sketching #criticalrole #pubdrawing #drawingbasics #drawingexercises #scaryterry #fanart #sketchbook #traditionaldrawing #traditionalart https://www.instagram.com/p/BuDh-YCAtAg/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1jhsfmsq8einj

The Neverending Reading List: Book IX
Drawing Basics and Video Game Art: Classic to Cutting-Edge Art Techniques for Winning Video Game Design by Chris Solarski
Video games are not a revolution in art history, but an evolution. Whether the medium is paper or canvas—or a computer screen—the artist's challenge is to make something without depth seem like a window into a living, breathing world. Video game art is no different. Drawing Basics and Video Game Art illuminates the connections between classical art and iconic video games, like Botticelli's Venus and Nintendo's Mario. Game designer Chris Solarski demonstrates how video games allow players to experience visual art in a new way. Solarski gives readers an introduction to basic drawing skills—light, value, color—as well as detailed instruction for using these methods to design complex characters and worlds. Games like BioShock, Journey, Fable, and Portal 2 were created using the same theories of depth, composition, movement, and artistic anatomy as the masters of classical art. Drawing Basics and Video Game Art gives any designer the right foundation in classical art techniques to create meaningful emotional experiences for gamers.
CHRIS SOLARSKI received a BA in computer animation and began working as a 3D character and environment artist for Sony Computer Entertainment in London. Eventually, Solarski enrolled in art classes at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts. During that time, he discovered the exciting connection between classical art techniques and video game design. He currently develops his own video games under Solarski Studio. He also works as creative director of the Swiss-based social-gaming startup Gbanga and lectures at SAE/Qantm Institute in Zurich.

Drawing Basics: Light Logic and Basic Forms
The infographics above are available to you to study about how light logic works. The short video linked below further demonstrates the process of how to articulate this light logic on some basic forms on your paper.
Happy drawing!
