Back here with another question about the Hunger Games AU before I forget ! So sorry if I’m kind of stacking these up on you!

During that whole time period after the 75th Hunger Games where Niki, Techno and Ranboo (if i remember correctly) have all been taken by the capitol, which of them, if not all were used in the whole Captiol anti rebel propaganda ?

okay im going off what i remember from the books so im very sorry if im totally not answering the right thing but also i suppose its my au and i can change things and am never wrong lol

i talked a little about what happened with all of them here but didnt answer this exact question so!

its ranboo.

techno is never considered. he isnt well liked enough to be worth it and knows a good amount about the rebellion/original plan to end the 75th games, so he gets a lot of interrogation (torture) time (woohoo).

niki is also very much in on the rebellion and stuff, she and jack actually had a pretty good idea of what was going on there/connection (because i love them and they deserve to blow shit up). her being in any of the propaganda would be a risk, theres always a chance she would be able to communicate in some kind of code.

but ranboo is ranboo. they matter to tommy and tubbo, they are a well known tribute who had a fanbase in the capitol... theyre the person for the job. the problem is they arent particularly charismatic, and i think the torture between the promos that are shot messes them up more than was expected. it takes a lot of tries just to get them responsive enough to shoot any of the broadcasts, and they have to be short and to the point. of course, it does a great job of upsetting tommy and tubbo (and sneeg and wilbur and their other friends), and the rescue mission happens sooner (and is more dangerous because of that) (also sneeg is on the mission :] )

oh anon i am finally here to reply. finally. thank you for your patience. excuse me because i know Nothing about tech but this makes sense in my head since turning off the fan in the bathroom turns off the lights in my room for a minute so thats my information about shitty wiring.

tommy got an 8. he picked up long range weapon work pretty fast and has an affinity for traps and stuff. fairly average considering the group, not particularly dangerous

ranboo got a 2. their abilities basically included hiding and close range usage of a knife. they'd already decided that they would kill themself at the start of the games by jumping off the pedestal early. they didnt care to try to get a good score.

tubbo got an 11. he'd figured out early on that the building's wiring and tech was flashy but not actually particularly hardy anywhere that wasn't more public/it didnt absolutely need to be. fucking up one area of wiring was bad enough to short circuit the lighting for the entire room for a short period. there wasnt enough attention on tubbo for anyone to realize that he was trying to pry one of the wall panels off, because it had looked like he was just pacing the perimeter, which... wasnt particularly interesting. the viewing platform wasn't exactly that high. by the time the lights came back on, tubbo was standing in the middle of the room holding one of the drinks that one of the evaluators had been drinking from. (i hope that makes any sense lol)

but yeah! tubbo has a bit of a katniss moment in making the evaluators feel like theyre in danger ^-^

kale i was rereading the hunger games because brain worms, and damn i love those books, but i set myself up for disappointment because there wasn't your blorbos, just katniss and peeta 😔 /j

val i have been thinking very much about this one but because my brain is dead it took me forever to reply.

-in the 75th games, i mentioned that the names go back into the bowl if someone is volunteered for (and gender isnt taken into account because i need that to be the case for my plot). ranboo was originally chosen and sneeg volunteered for them, since pretty much everyone was aware that ranboo wasnt gonna make it out of another set of games. of course, ranboo was upset by this, they dont want anyone to die in their place. that wasnt a concern for too long, because their name was chosen again, and instead of sneeg going into the games instead of them, he was going in with them.

-wilbur almost volunteered for tommy. he had to beg him not to.

-in the 74th games, there was a moment where tubbo tackled ranboo to the ground to keep them from walking into a trap, and ranboo fully thought he was going to kill them. they weren't going to fight it. they'd rather tommy and tubbo get out. they'd rather be killed by one of the two than anyone else. ranboo figure they would probably at least be fast about it.

-tommy and tubbo were separated from ranboo after the games to go back to their own districts. ranboo didn't get to see them again until the victors tour. they got really close with sneeg during that time. he was the only person there who understood them and didnt get frustrated with them. their district celebrating their return didnt last long. how could it when there were other things to focus on. ranboo didnt want to be celebrated anyway. too many people had died for them to come home

-ranboo had to deal with constantly being bothered about if they were dating one of the boys. because of course they had to be, they were a "girl" who was close with two boys.

-in 13, tubbo and tommy had a really hard time being split between fighting for the rebellion and wanting so badly to be there for ranboo. it was one of the things that kept them going- the idea that one day they would all be able to just settle down together. that one day they could just be happy

so a lot of this is like, being put together as i go obviously so more will come up as it gets fleshed out! but i said this near the beginning and ill repeat it: there arent enough drdi characters to replace the hunger games ones, so its technically a crossover. so president snow is still the main bad guy (hannah joked that president snow could be replaced by the truck and im still laughing about that) so im gonna put that out there! maybe katniss still exists lol but didnt get reaped. i did this in my pjo au that only exists in my head too but that one isnt gonna get fleshed out any time soon bc im not super into it rn.

anyway, just wanted to say that lol. one big thing would the romance wouldnt be the focus of the trio's whole thing of course. i think theres like... rumors in the capitol of like oooh which once is dating ranboo whats going on there ;) but beyond that, its like, the bond between tommy and tubbo that has a big focus and how they like ✨united to save ranboo✨ and of course the trio's bond too. ranboo is the damsel in distress sweetheart kind of role in the eyes of viewers. ranboo and tommy would also be far more aware of the situation when compared to peeta with katniss. like they know how much rides on them filling the roles theyve been put into. and they do love each other and have that bond but it isn't the exact same as what the people want to see from them, and its hard to act when they wish they could just like... be.

theres also no one who fills the prim role. so thats definitely a change. the final bombing and stuff would still go how it does in mockingjay, and it would still be horrific, but theres no one to get caught in it. i could see maybe like, ranboo being there and tubbo thinks theyre dead, but i dont wanna kill them... still working on that piece. i think like, while the situation follows that of the books, theres just differences in the way the key points are hit i suppose. because its not a 1:1 au obviously... theres a lot to play with :]

also three winners sure has an effect on things. it shows a bond between districts that really has a big effect, especially with 3 and 8 both already being more rebellious AND side by side geographically. they stand together before the actual rebellions even begin

do you have many thoughts about him? because i am going to be thinking about this all day and the main one is going to be sneeg trying really hard to be a distant mentor and not care about ranboo because it's obvious to everyone that they're not gonna make it to the second day but somewhere along the line he looks at them and realizes "fuck i would both kill and die for them" and so he tries to be more distant to save himself when they inevitably die, but ranboo ends up thinking that they've done something wrong and they keep trying to make it up to sneeg but nothing seems to be working- aaaasaaaahdkalajdksksl the angst potential of this, kale!

I HAVE SO MANY THOUGHTS ABOUT HIM AND YOU!! ARE DEFINITELY ON THE RIGHT TRACK!!! SO first of all. ranboo is like 16 when they're in the games. that's just worth saying. i made them a little younger than in drdi because why would i NOT. (this makes ranboo and tubbo 16 and tommy 15 btw. just for reference.) sneeg is the winner of the 64th hunger games when he was 14 (10 years ago from when ranboo's is wow!) he won with literally a whole ass knife stuck in his side but he still won. now its fun to note that no one from district 8 has won since. every other tribute has died. theres another mentor though of course, the one who mentored sneeg is still around so each tribute gets a mentor.

ok all that done

so of course there are two tributes from 8, ranboo and an 18 year old who is accustomed to physical labor and has a much better chance than ranboo. and of course sneeg ends up mentoring ranboo and the other person mentors the male tribute. now ranboo is 16, theyre terrified, they know they're going to die and they just dont want it to hurt too badly. they have no one at home who cares (theres still lorraine in this au but like. she sure doesnt give a shit if ranboo comes back) and they just want someone to care. unfortunately, sneeg has dealt with watching too many kids die, and he doesnt even want to hope that ranboo might make it through, even through sheer luck. he doesnt want to be an asshole, but he's tired. i think yknow, its not that ranboo doesnt know what they did to make sneeg "not like" them, they just assume that he's the same as everyone else out there who has decided they arent worth it.

but yeah, unfortunately ranboo is very hard for sneeg not to care about. tributes have a week of training, and its like, the night of the 4th day after the individual sessions where each tribute gets a score that he finds ranboo sitting out on the balcony. they got a 4 or something, pretty much the lowest of the group. he sits down with them, and hes trying to figure out something to say that might make them feel a little better about the whole thing, and before he can, they point down at a building and are like "you see that support? if you took that out, the whole structural integrity would be compromised. it would be easy to take out after that." and sneeg is like ".... okay?" and ranboo just kinda shrugs and is like "i just noticed it i guess." and sneeg is like "okay, what else have you 'just noticed'?" and they end up having a whole conversation and it turns out that ranboo has a very good eye for how things can fall apart. something that sneeg might have been able to work when directing them on what to do in training and for strategy if he had just paid attention. and he feels incredibly guilty about that.

but its not guilt that makes him care about them. unfortunately it turns out that theyre pretty funny despite being resigned to death and theyre just generally a good kid and he breaks his own rule about not caring about tributes. he helps them come up with what to say during the interviews, how to play a part that might get them sponsors, how to make themself seem like a little less of a target. he and ranboo run through all the different techniques they could use for survival despite their lack of strength or fighting ability. both think its kind of useless, but they both want to believe that maybe it'll help. it keeps ranboo from deciding to step off the pedestal and just blow themself up at the start at least. they have one person on their side at least, and that's better than they've had in years. (of course, theres tommy and tubbo too, but ranboo isnt entirely sure yet that they arent just gonna get killed in their sleep at some point lmao)

each tribute gets to bring a token into the arena with them. ranboo didn't have one before coming to the capitol, but they have one going in to the arena. im not sure what its gonna be yet, but i do know it would be from sneeg.

my main guess is sam, but if he's not their mentor, do you have any little snippets of sam backstory?

sam's one of the big bitches in district 13! not taking the place of president coin, no ones gonna kill him, but he is one of the leaders. he was never in the hunger games, most of his time has been spent in 13 planning and preparing. he's one of the leaders there that tubbo ABSOLUTELY gets into arguments with but also works well with at times. theres a weird duality there. sam has spent so much of his life preparing for the rebellion that hes got a very like... this needs to succeed at any cost kinda view

as for ranboos mentor. well. i suppose ill tell you all as a little treat. while i decided to mostly populate drdi with dsmp characters and OCs, i have dragged one character from another smp. the man himself, sneeg. he's in too many of my personal aus for me not to put him in drdi and therefore this au.

slimecicle is the perfect effie trinket in my mind. eccentric and bubbly and loud, always playing it up for the cameras. very similar to his character in that one tales of the smp episode with the maze.

actually, maybe a mix of both effie and caesar flickerman. he has the vibes for both.

Onto another question! This one is more of a hypothetical I guess, but I saw that a bit ago when you were talking about the drdi x hunger games lore that you mentioned the possibility of Tubbo thinking Ranboo was dead when the double bombs went off. If that were to happen, and you don’t mind sharing, do you have any fleshed out ideas of that? Like is it similar to THG where Ranboo would be helping out with the injured pekple when the second explosions went off? And survived either with or without injuries. Or was it a “thought they were there but weren’t” situation

hi!!! sorry about the delayed reply! i havent been entirely sure what to say because because im not sure so i will just put my thoughts out here and see if it gets me anywhere lol

so the more i think about it the more i do like the idea of ranboo actually being there. even though ranboo doesnt die, they would definitely be injured again (and jesus christ they've already been through a lot... like they are not recovering from this, and of course that's okay, they'll have support and love and everything, but its a miracle theyre alive and they're gonna have a lot of chronic pain and mobility issues and lasting effects of multiple brain injuries etc). i think them being hurt by it and originally presumed dead is the push tubbo would need to ultimately do what katniss did and kill whoever is in charge of 13 (i think its still gonna be coin, i did talk about how its a crossover and not a whole AU because i dont have enough characters to fit all the parts). but i think its pretty vital to the story that that happens, so i gotta keep it.

i dont think theyre even like, really part of the medical team or anything, theyre just close enough to want to rush in to help, but on the edges enough not to actually get killed. tubbo just sees them like, getting there, then the bombs go off, and it just... doesnt look like they should have survived it. because of the situation, and the fact that he and tommy were also definitely injured to an extent from being close to where the bombs detonated, it takes a while to find out that ranboo did survive it, and the boys are fully grieving ranboo for at least a day, maybe a few with how much of a mess everything is, before being told that they're actually alive and being treated for their injuries (which are extensive).

i guess i came up with an answer while i talked lol, i hope that all makes sense :] thank you for all your asks about the AU ive been enjoying them a lot!!

Hello!! Hunger Games anon here and yet again leaving a question here before I forget lol. (Again, sorry if I’m piling these up on you 😭)

In terms of the DRDI lot, during the time when everyone was in district 13 and the second rebellion was in full swing, what kind of roles did everyone have? Like who was the ones going out on field missions and that stuff vs who stayed back in district 13 if that makes any sense ?

hi hi sorry about the delayed answer its due to i had to use my brain lol but here you go! dont worry about piling them up on me, i just happen to be interacting with the outside world more than usual with delays my replies /lh (thats in no way meant to be sarcastic at you its a little dig at myself for never going anywhere haha)

okay, so, i am heavily using the hunger games wiki right now because despite my knowledge of the books/movies it has been long enough that i need to brush up on them... gonna read the books again soon though. though i suppose i should stop apologizing for inaccuracies in an AU haha

tubbo's the mockingjay. he's the face of everything. he's out there in the field at times, and filming stuff at others. he's got bargaining power, which he uses to his advantage. his role basically takes over katniss's but still not exactly the same. but the rebellion needs a face and he's it

tommy is pretty much on the exact same assignments and stuff as tubbo, his job is to play the right hand man, the best friend, everything that everyone expects from him. basically he does what tubbo does but is still seen as less important. he's more expendable. or would be if tubbo hadn't made it clear that if tommy dies, he's out.

wilbur... if i was going to compare him to anyone in the books it would be finnick. his entire focus at first is getting techno back. (and niki and ranboo of course but techno is who he's closest to). phil kind of keeps him sane. he isn't really doing much fighting or anything until techno is back, and then he pretty much sticks with him, wherever hes going

niki and jack did a lot of planning attacks and stuff. niki isnt really able to go out in the field until later on, so the two focus on helping from back in 13.

sneeg is also a good planner and goes on the rescue mission to get ranboo, but after that the majority of his focus is on helping them. he's really stubborn and doesnt really do whats asked of him, but tubbo's got bargaining powers and makes sure sneeg doesnt get shit for it. Someone has to be with ranboo as often as possible

ranboo... is mostly recovering. i dont know exactly where they end up yet, it would be interesting for them to end up in that final move toward the capitol, but im not sure how feasible it ends up being.

ive gotta think more on some of the others i think, there is a FULL cast out here dang. but thank you for asking!!! i always love answering this stuff :D

hunger games au: i can't stop thinking of a cornucopia scene like in the first book -you know the one where peeta has like blood poisoning or something and katniss goes to the banquet thing to get him the tasty drugs- ANYWAY, because i love to torture myself with angst that but it's our favourite trio. like, tommy or tubbo gets injured and needs medical supplies fast, so the gamemasters (is that their actual name idk) are all "ohoho, what is this? could it be? medical supplies in the cornucopia, along with things the other very dangerous competitors will show up for? hehe!"

so because ranboo has zero self preservation and thinks that the other two are more valuable anyway, they volunteer to go to the cornucopia and get the supplies. cue angst where they have to go up against one of the remaining contestants to get the supplies. idk I've gone a little crazy over this au i think 😅 in a /pos kinda way

oh i absolutely love that. i said that ranboo killed--well, kinda gutted--one other tribute, and that would be the perfect spot for it. ranboo totally sneaks away, too, which makes it even better for tommy and tubbo when they hear a cannon and dont know who died! they can only assume the worst, because there arent many people left, and ranboo isnt a strong guy. but no, they come back drenched in someone else's blood, but with whatever they need to keep the boys alive. its a nice, traumatizing moment for everyone !!

SO! yeah in the hunger games people are captured and tortured in different ways. peeta specifically is brainwashed to like, hate katniss and be against the rebellion etc

now in this version, yes ranboo is definitely tortured. besides just being hurt and being questioned until the captors come to the conclusion that ranboo didn't know anything that was going to happen, there's a lot of psychological torture in there. being made to not know what's real or not is a big one, making them question past events, making them question who and what they can believe, making them feel like theyre in constant danger (which isnt hard), etc... the hope is that, if they are rescued, the state ranboo is in is meant to hurt tommy and tubbo. they dont get to the point of thinking that like, tommy and tubbo are going to kill them or something though. they dont trust anything, but they also dont think that the people they love are specifically against them.

the rescue does happen earlier than it does in the books, which saves them from some stuff.

as for other people: techno and niki also get captured, both for the sake of information more than anything else, and because they were just in the wrong place at the wrong time of course. they dont make it through unscathed, but they do face a little less of the psychological aspect when compared to ranboo and have a shorter recovery period.
