I was working on improving my minis painting skills and I think I can produce now a decent tabletop quality. (This here ofc isn't nowhere near the finish line) Can't wait for my first battle on the Warhammer seas.

Got my own Star Wars Armada models - finally!
Until now, I have been using the expertly painted miniatures of a friend of mine who has a complete set of Armada-models, which was and is nice, since we mostly play against each other (the joys of a small friend circle!).
And that was fine for me. Despite the crippling feelings of guilt when I freeloaded on his miniatures, and the apologetic me confessing to opponents on tournaments that no, these are not my models, and the latent enabling of my own laziness.
The only thing I ever bought for myself were dice and a Core Set solely for the parts (Damage deck, terrain, etc) to allow both my friend and me to participate in the same tournaments.
But recently, an acquaintance (well, I do have a few that are not ashamed to be seen in public with me, thank you very much) of mine opened a hobby store, and we talked about Armada - turns out he never played any tabletop game outside of Games Workshop products!
So I decided to give him a tour (a „Star Tour“ if you will - I‘m so sorry), and dig out my Core Set miniatures. After some deliberation, I then decided that, fuck it, I‘m gonna get my own collection. Not a complete collection; but just enough to be able to throw together a game if anyone was interested.
And I‘m gonna paint my minis!
So here, have one in-game pic and a couple of crappy in work-in-progress-pics of my attempts at being artsy again.
Decided to drybrush the white on the X-Wings up from a dark brown, which looks terrible on small-scale models; maybe it will look better once finished (and while we‘re at the maybes, maybe I‘ll find true happiness AND win the lottery?).
The Nebulon-B is coming along nicely, though that is probably due to me doing only small things to the original product, like adding washes and light drybrushing. Still plenty of opportunities to fuck it up.
Also, let‘s forget how my Dreadfleet project went. That‘s not gonna happen here. Nope. Not this time.

Plaguefleets in 40K? Dreadfleets in Warhammer Fantasy? I should just accept the fact that I have a hard on for large, gross looking ships in a science fiction/fantasy setting

Ulthuan's a bit screwy.
As per my usual, it's taken a few tries to get a High Elf Vortex campaign rolling out the way I want. For faction choices, I quickly found myself limited to just Tyrion and Alarielle because I don't want to operate in the same general region twice, which eliminates Alith Anar in the Naggarond neighborhood and Imrik in the Southlands (my Lizardman campaign was Last Defenders, who are based in the southeast corner), as well as Teclis in Lustria because I am planning to use Clan Skrye as my Skaven campaign. Eltharion the Grim is also out because he has own personal campaign.
Now, Alarielle might an interesting choice because she has unique access to some Wood Elf forest spirit units and quicker access to the elite Siters of Avelorn archers, but she's also got a campaign mechanic that penalizes you if any non-Asur faction holds territory on Ulthuan, which are worse if the invaders hold something on the inner ring, and said inner ring includes the four special fortress regions that link the inner and outer regions in the island's northwest corner. The Vortex campaign begins with two Dark Elf AI factions on Ulthuan: the Cult of Excess as Tyrion's starter foes and some Kaine-themed ones in the north for Alarielle. The Kaine faction happens to start with one of the Gate fortresses, and those are generally a pain just to walk to, let alone seige, because the movement cost through those passes is ridiculously high. Also, as of the Eltharion/Grom pack, there's also some Greenskins hanging out in Yvresse. And the Dreadfleet has a near 100% chance to come in and take something from Caledor or Tiranoc early on. And all of that is difficult to reach from Avelorn early on, so Alarielle's buff/penalty status depends a lot more on the AI than the player's ability.
*big breath* all that to say, I'm playing as Tyrion, the "default" Asur Legendary Lord.
My strategy has been to try to confederate Eltharion and Allarielle while dealing with the minor High Elf factions on a case-by-case basis. Caledor has to be fought, as they start out strongly disliking you anyway and they hold the nearest ritual currency site to Tyrion. In my current and most successful run, I confederated Ellyrian early on, scoring me the west side of the inner ring and two forts with minimal effort. Averlon and Yvresse both proved a hassle to confed, but I have succeeded in getting them both, and I conquered Saphery by force of arms.
All should be going well. I'm only two rituals in and already own most of Ulthuan, have some solid armies, and am making forays off-island to, at minimum, claim Albion for its ritual currency-generating special building and do some eye-poking at Malekith. The problem is, around the time I started warring with Saphery my diplomatic trustworthiness tanked for some reason I can't quite fathom (my best guess is Saphery dragged Chrace into the fight, breaking the treaties I had with the latter) and, stranger still, I haven't seen any sign of that status recovering even slightly. I may have encountered a bug, or I'm unwittingly doing something that keeps hurting my reliability. It's making it impossible to set up new trade routes.

Hello everyone, I'm back to posting again! With the recent announcement of the Soulblight Gravelords battletome, I have been thinking a lot recently about how the grand alliance of death might be expanded in terms of new subfactions with unique and interesting identities. Looking at the positive reception of the Vampire Coast faction when it was added to Total War: Warhammer 2, it seems like the introduction of a similar faction for Aage of Sigmar, or even Warhammer: The Old World, could prove to be really popular with players. Indeed, I think adding another explicitly aquatic faction to the Mortal Realms could give the Idoneth Deepkin a compelling rival and foil through which the briny depths of the realms' oceans could be explored and characterised in greater detail. I drew very much on John Blanche's artwork of Luther Harkon found in the End Times books, as well as the wonderful pieces Blance did for the Dreadfleet stand-alone game, and spliced these with the great art direction Creative Assembly came up with in their implementation and expansion of the Vampire Coast faction for Total War. I must admit, I'm rather pleased with how this fellow turned out and was even compelled to write some lore for him. #ageofsigmar #aos #grandalliancedeath #warhammer #warhammertheoldworld #conceptart #undead #fantasy #vampirepirate #undeadpirate #vampirecoast #fantasywarrior https://www.instagram.com/p/CMt5XCwFztw/?igshid=1o7n23fi81mef
