The Plot Thickens

The Spectres return to the fortress to update the Mistress about their success. They first had to convince Rilna Freth about their success so they could appeal to Mistress Eralal in hopes of being given safe passage off of the level. Rilna was a bit skeptical, but thought the Mistress should hear the report anyway.

While walking through the keep, the party overhears Drivvin Freth (brother of the Mistress) in heated discussion with two human woman. Drivvin seems to be wanting confirmation that "he" will follow through on a promise. They seem to confirm that "he" will as long as Drivvin agrees to the terms. When Drivvin sees Rilna and the party, he steps out to inform them that Eralal has gone into labor and cannot be disturbed. He is happy to take the report, but first introduces the two women as representatives of Shadowdusk Hold seeking an alliance with House Freth. He clearly expects the party to be impressed.

The party then updates Drivvin about their efforts in clearing out all minotaurs. Drivvin says complimentary things, but he clearly is unpleasantly surprised by this news. There are lots of exchanged looks between him and the visitors. Finally, he declares that the party will have to wait until morning to give this report to Eralal in person since it is so consequential.

While scoping out a place to sleep inside the walls for the night, the party does discover that the Drow are using troglodyte slaves in one pen and goblin slaves in another to do farming work and keep the vermin down. There is also a lone minotaur chained to the ground of the troglodyte pen with his horns cut short. Seeing that the House Freth is on a knife's edge, the party decides to attempt taking it down from the inside.

When activity slows during the evening inside the fortress, Sychor and Ilokoris begin sneaking around. At first the doors on the outside of the keep and the troglodyte pen seem un-openable. They observe Rilna enter one door by simply pushing on it, though. They eventually determine that wearing the proper scarab will allow them passage through any door around the keep. The door Rilna entered was simply her apartment. They back out slowly. They find an armory as well. Going inside, Sychor finds the kitchen and the pantry as well as someone's torture room which also includes a tiny coffin that appears to be a gift. They are dodging Drivvin this whole time while he is out for a late night walk. When he returns, Sychor hides invisibly inside Drivvin's room, but observes nothing worth acting on.

He then enters the guests room and finds that one of the women figures out he's in the room. After some posturing, they start talking - rogue to rogue - to establish a truce. But, soon, she lets on that she does know who the Spectres are and that they shall be meeting again soon. But, at the moment, her mission is more important than her business with the Spectres. Sychor leaves and shares all of this news with his friends.

The next morning, they meet Eralal (sans child as it was false labor) and she is thrilled, but skeptical of their success. Adding extra snark to comments directed at Drivvin, she asks the party to stay one more night while their story is vetted. During that night, the party does a walkabout to see the walls and exits around the fortress and begin planning how they will cause chaos and bring down the house.

They visit some Drow standing around a giant spider machine of some sort. They spot a handful of Vrock guarding the high ground. They plot with the goblin slaves about how they can let them out without sending them to their death.

The results of the investigation may give them permission to leave. Drivvin may try to shiv them in the night. The visitors might stalk them as they go. There are so many ways this can go wrong.

but its sad cause he died at the age of 33 in a plane crash
