As I was looking through the Section 31 Hidden Files #7 of Season 4, I came across this interesting tidbit.

Ronald D. Moore: We did that show where we killed Bareil and [...] Bashir is putting all these cybernetic implants in him and then we eventually pulled the plug on him. Then the [Worf's] brother gets put in there and Bashir wipes his memory. Bashir was just this monster doctor doing all these evil things. Which was a lot of fun too.

It is super interesting to me how they viewed Julian at this point in the show.

I wonder how dark and how far the writers would have gone with his character if they considered him monstrous already.

There's been something I've been meaning to gif for a really long time and I figured the 32nd anniversary of the DS9 premiere was an appropriate time to finally do it. 30 years ago, there was a short TV series called Movie Magic that detailed how FX were done for both movies and TV. And one of the episodes focused on the model work for the first DS9 episode Emissary.

In the BTS, they showed the moment when Sisko and Jake get their first view of the station. And I had noticed the way in which Avery Brooks had to step over something on the floor. Whether it was the track for the camera or the wiring I don't know. But whenever I rewatch Emissary I notice the way Brooks moves in this scene as he steps over something.

IIRC, this episode of Movie Magic talked about how expensive it was to make Emissary because of all the motion control work necessary to shoot the battle with the Borg. And they were really anxious not to screw things up when they filmed the explosion of the Saratoga as there wouldn't be a second chance.

And speaking of filming models of spaceships exploding, Trek at least always did it right with the cameras pointing straight up at the model as it exploded so that as debris fell towards the floor it would be falling towards the camera. When you watch an exploding spaceship in classic Who, you see debris tumbling downwards after the explosion as they didn't bother to do this.

People often point out that at least we can explain away Musk Junior High on Star Trek Disco bc it doesn't use a first name and thus could be named after anyone named Musk but Musk is like, a p. rare surname. Every Musk with a Wikipedia page is related to Elon in some way. You could make up a unrelated fictional Musk to rationalize it but it's too clearly meant to be Elon Musk Junior High. Like DS9 once featured a ship called the USS Cortez, and bts sources identified it as being named after Hernán Cortés, but Cortez is such a common name it could be named after anyone, it's really easy to make it be for someone else bc nobody would've assumed it was for Hernan if nobody had said anything. With "Musk" there's really just one guy

I don't know if you feel the same way, but I never liked Bashir/Ezri. The way Worf and Bashir tried to make her their replacement Jadzia was so wrong; I'd rather Ezri had friendship adventures with Jake and Nog who were closer in age to her. The gross way Bashir told Ezri during their sex scene that he always wanted to know how many spots she had seemed like he was talking about Jadzia, and I hate that Julian was regressed back into obsessing with Jadzia instead of accepting her rejection and moving on with his life.

TBH I have no strong feelings either way for Bashir/Ezri but given all the BTS stuff I know about with TPTB trying to unqueer both him and Garak, I can't blame people for not vibing with it.

I wasn't even all that fond of original recipe Worf/Dax, but he at least had the excuse of working through his grief and Ezri trying to get her groundings after a joining she never wanted or prepared for and after they got it out of their systems, they quickly moved past it so like....I can tolerate that one. Barely.

Overall, classic Trek just did not do romance very well across the board and DS9 for all that it did get right was no exception to this.
