I think it's popular because at first, they were the two single characters from the original 5 kiddads and people just ran with it. There were a few moments in the show that could highlight them as having had something closer then the rest of the group and before it was cleared up in canon people loved the angst of Lark being the one who took Nick's arm.

Maybe it's just something about the guy who is determined to fix the world he destroyed getting with the half demon going through an identity crisis.

Maybe it's just the guy who hates his father vs the one who hero worships two fathers.

Maybe it's just for the bit now.

I know didn't get it at first, but then I started reading it and something clicked. Next thing you know I was writing it.

Now I've written over 100 fics and I've got so many more planned. I'm just obsessed with them. I got to watch it start as a rare pair and contributed to it becoming the most common pairing. It's pretty cool, and I adore this ship and the friends I've made here.

I love this take!! Omg yes please!!

I'm down in the nark hole, but I think I disagree with something, and it's that, between the two of them, the one who at one points has cold feet and runs away breaking the other's heart is Nick, not Lark.

Hear me out: yeah, Lark has his issues, this man needs therapy for yesterday. Yep, I'm aware. But he's still Henry's son, he's still an Oak, and Oaks care so much for others, even if he's the Oak that it's not vegan and thinks as violence as the solution, he loves his family so much, and he's a fighter. He's messed up, but he stays at his family's side. Hell, he stayed at Henry's side until code purple, even when he says he hates him. He's not the kind of person who gets cold feet, probably because when he makes a decision he is sure that is the correct one and thinks about it for 48h before taking it (I'm talking about the big decisions, otherwise he can be hot headed).

And then you have Nick Close / Foster / Freeman, who is an absent father, is divorced and is carrying his family's trauma about not talking and not being there for others. He's hot headed, and reckless, and he cares a lot, but like Glenn, even if he loves someone with all his heart, he takes bad decisions almost 85% of the time.

Nick is the one who appears in Lark's bunker in the middle of the night and disappears before the morning comes.

Then he starts to stay, and doesn't think about why, until one morning he wakes up and goes to the kitchen to get some breakfast and realizes that there's always cow milk in the freezer even if Lark drinks vegan milk, and he has a towell and a toothbrush in the bathroom, and he has spare clothes in one shell and that's when he panics because oh shit, he likes him, and probably runs away.

Lark is never going to be the first one to say I love you, but I think he's the first one to realize it, and he's not able to leave Nick (something that makes him feel guilty because he doesn't think he deserves it), so he just waits until Nick leaves him.

At the end of the day, both are more like their parents that they would like to, and let's be real, one family is used to leave the one's they love behind, and the other is used to have a broken heart.

This event will be a week long, ending on ✨Valentine's Day ✨. There is a collection, which you will find in this post. Below you'll find information about the event, but if you have any questions feel free to send an ask or a DM to this blog or to the main dndoodsevents blog.

What: A weeklong, fluffy Nark event dedicated to first-kiss fics, meet cutes, and pure, tooth-rotting fluff.

All works must be centered on the ship of Lark Oak/ Nick Close | Nicholas Foster.

The minimum required word count for written works is 100, and there is no maximum. No AI is permitted. Any rating is allowed, as long as it's tagged properly. All fanworks MUST be Nark-centric.
