So the way Steven Moffat wrote The Girl In The Fireplace, now that we have access to that script, is odious, particularly in the way he handled Rose in between dialogue. Was surprised to learn he is a writer every bit as childish and pompous as the episode makes him seem.

one thing i do think people really need to pull the haterism brakes on is saying it's an insult that ncuti's era is so short. ncuti chose to leave of his own volition. i think this was a completely understandable choice given the contractual limbo the show is in and i don't blame him at all but he was not by any means pushed out the door or written out when he didn't want to be. for all the things it's fair to slate rtd for this is actually not among them.

if you were showrunner what would you do

First of all, I’m not a writer, so I’m not even sure how I’d develop my ideas, but here are something’s I’d do:

1. Unknown actor for the Doctor. Be it female or male, but it has to be a newcomer.

2. Companion that has completely lost faith in the universe and the Doctor helps them see the beauty in life again.

3. Sort out Gallifrey’s and Time Lords lore. In the past eras we’ve had a lot of changes and mentions to Gallifreyan lore. However, I think it’s all a bit scattered and all over the place, so I’d definitely take the time to try and tie it all together. Not necessarily decanonize anything that’s been done, but try to make it more of a cohesive thing.

4. Since we’re talking Gallifrey, I’d like to use them to make some political commentary. We know that oftentimes the Time Lords suck, but I think this hasn’t been fully explored. I’d definitely have a plot about them wanting to take another civilization’s land to build a new Gallifrey or something and show the horrors of colonialism and war. Also, show the civilization resisting the Time Lords and have the Doctor fully face the horrors perpetrated by their own people and how peaceful resistance is a privilege not a given. Btw extra points if the companion comes from the people fighting the time lords.

5. Since we’re doing time lords, have the Doctor reunite with Susan and have her as a companion as well.

6. After an initially heavy lore era, focus on introducing new monsters bringing once a season just one of the big three.

There’s more probably, but it’s late and this is already big.
