kinda interesting how often the rogues (implied) queerness and romantic attraction to batman is brought up tbh. after that panel joker mentions penguin 'really being so straight.' and that he 'always related to the more crooked fellows.' like harvey, who 'could go both ways.'(batman '16 #49). and then ofc all the times the rogues invited batman to something date-coded or panels like that one guy being homophobic towards riddler or dwarfstar asking bane if he 'got a crush on the bat, right? lord knows there's a mess of guys like you' (secret six '08, #21). you probably talked about it before but what do you think of the frequency with which that is brought up?

i honestly have mixed feelings because on one hand i obviously enjoy queer-coding in a general sense and like to see more explicit developments in that area, but on the other the entire reason theyre queer-coded in the first place is due to homophobia and equating villainy with "sexual deviancy" and similar ideas. individual moments i can laugh at and i do genuinely like homoerotic villain-hero interactions, but as an overt decades long trend, its frustrating. add on that despite all these jokes, a vast majority of the characters theyre about are still technically canonically straight, and it can leave a bad taste
