I have never listened to DXMON so this song would be my first impression.

The beat at certain points is reminding me of ATEEZ and Stray Kids, which isn't bad!

I don't think I hate the song..I think I need time to let it grow on me.

2024 Retrospective: Worst Comeback/Song

I want to preface this by saying that if you liked any of the songs I’m going to mention, that’s fine. Music taste is subjective after all.

BABYMONSTER – SHEESH

I do think these girls are talented. They can sing. Their debut mini album actually had some songs that weren’t bad. But this just is shit. I do think the verses are good, but whatever goodwill they build is gone when that chorus hits. I don’t think I heard a chorus as obnoxious as this since Sticker. Also the music video is very much struggling on deciding what tone it wants to have. It’s just all not good. They deserve so much better than what YG is giving them, because right now, they are just diet-BLACKPINK.

Dishonourable Mentions:

Jimin – Who

I really want to stop putting BTS solos in this category. I really do. In fact, I did like Jins comeback. But the key difference is that Jin still sounds like himself and Jimin sounds like his voice has been fully replaced by a robot. Seriously, I still don’t understand why HYBE is relying so heavy on autotune with their artists, because they can sing. They don’t fucking need it. And even setting that aside, the production of this song is a mess. It doesn’t sound pleasant even without his vocals. They need to stop working with American producers in an effort to appeal to the masses. Though in a way it did work, because it became the longest charting K-Pop song on the Billboard Top 200. I don’t get it.

A2O May – Under My Skin

I thought this was a cover at first, but it turns out this is actually their debut track. Why? I guess Lee Sooman still hold the rights to the song, but very clearly only to the TVXQ version, because in some places you can make out some adlibs that are sung by a male voice. It’s really a huge joke, which is sad, because these girls are talented. Lee Sooman still not being over Jaejoong and being booted from the industry sadly just overshadows it all. Like, it’s been 16 years since Mirotic came out. Let it fucking go, old man! It’s just creatively bankrupt. Technically it’s not a bad song, because it’s still Mirotic, but it feels and sounds wrong. Especially when they throw in the line: “You’re so Mirotic.” Mirotic is not a word that exists in English or Korean. Hell, it’s a word Jaejoong made up. It’s the Korean word for maze with the added suffix -tic, so it doesn’t make any sense. Honestly, I feel like TVXQ and JX both should sue him for emotional damage.

LISA – Rockstar

Out of all the songs released by a BLACKPINK member this year, this is the worst. MANTRA and APT. honestly are bops. LISA just got the short end of the stick. The instrumental itself isn’t even bad, the lyrics just make it so much worse. I can see what she is going for with some of them, but it doesn't work. The “Lisa can you teach me Japanese, I said Hai Hai” line in particular doesn’t make any sense. If you answer like that, of course people are going to assume you’re Japanese. You’re defeating your own point. I’m also very tired of people calling themselves rockstars as a synonym for bad behaviour or being cool.

aespa – Supernova

I’m so sorry everyone, but I didn’t like this song. I’m glad they are sweeping awards and all, because they do deserve it, but did it have to be with this? To me it sounds like it’s on fast forward. Like even they want to get it done with. Their vocals are good, as always, but the rest just sounds so messy.

DXMON – ZIP ZIP ZIP

In 2022 I said that NMIXX slapping two songs together was not a good sound. DXMON (or rather Dem Jointz and Ryan Jhun) took that as a challenge apparently and slapped three songs together. And they don’t even flow into each other. One second, you’re listening to one and the next it sounds completely different. It creates so much whiplash that it’s almost unbelievable the song exists in the first place.

DXMON are back with "Zip Zip Zip". Kind of confused on first listen but on second listen I liked it. I do like the switch ups but I would like the transitions to be a little smoother and less abrupt. But I did quite like it. B-side "Heart Balloon" is also quite good 🤐😉🥰💗💝💓💖💞🔥
