Would you want it in like individual little thoughts for each brother or like a specific brother and like a larger blurb??
individual thought for each brother please🙏🙏
Request: could you write a fic/blurb for the hughes brothers and how they would take care of their gf who’s overstimulated and has gone non-verbal (and i don’t think you would take this the wrong way but some people have when i haven’t specified) (not in the sexy way)
I tried to be as general as possible, just cause I don't want to be insensitive to anyones triggers or to any personal experiences!!
Quinn—
Being captain means that Quinn has to attend these bigger events and be as present as he possibly can be for them. But if and when his girlfriend needs his help, his captain duties get pushed to the side until he knows she is safe and okay. They attend an event together and it gets a little busier than she expected she tries to stick it out, but by the sixth random person that had come up to ask her questions about Quinn and the charities that the two of them had been working with during this season, she is just completely out of her comfort zone and so overwhelmed Quinn noticed right away from her body language, watching her whole body tense up, and by the way her face looked blank with wide eyes as she tried to find the nearest exit. He's immediately trailing behind her and into the hallway of the banquet hall, finding her curled up in a ball, her pretty dress pooled around her as she hid her face in her hands. “Hey hey,” he mumbled, trying to get her to stop panicking, pulling her hands away from her face to make her look at him, “let's try those breathing exercises that you taught me” She's struggling to comprehend, but he is persistent and gets her to a state of calm in a few minutes. Her head rests against his shoulder as he creates a game plan in his head to get their things and get them out to the car without a soul noticing, and without being bombarded by people wanting to chat with him. At the end of the day, she is his number one priority, his leadership means a lot but she means a lot more to him than some tabloids that paint him out to be the saving grace of the canucks.
Jack—
Jack is known for being a carefree soul, he's go with the flow and has a bubbly or joking demeanour. But the second she needs him, all of his attention goes straight to her. The bar they were at had strobe lights, she had never experienced something like this, but the flashing, mixed with the music and loud chatter had her head spinning. She sat awkwardly in the corner of the bar, nursing a tall glass of ice water that she had managed to order herself before she completely shut down. So now she just sitting in silence in some dimly lit booth in the back, twiddling her thumbs in her lap as she focused on her breathing. Jack searched the crowd for her the second he came to realize that she was no longer by his side, his conversation with Dylan Larkin going a bit longer than intended which led to him becoming lost in their conversations about his upcoming wedding. His eyes found her from across the room, and within a second he was maneuvering his way around the room to get to her. "Oh baby," he said as she looked at him tiredly, slowly blinking at him which let him know just where her energy level was at, "I'll call Luke to come and get us now," he said sitting down next to her, careful not to touch her or move her around too much and make her feel even worse. "Is there anything I can do to make you more comfortable while we wait?" with a slight shake of her head Jack watched as she mentally counted the seconds in between her breaths, "would some fresh air maybe help, get you away from the noise?" she looked at him again and nodded, her lips turning up into a smile as she reached out to squeeze his hand. A little notion to tell him. that she was okay when she could verbally express it.
Luke—
Luke's girlfriend hated parties, but this was the boys' last big college party before they headed to Tampa for the Frozen Four, and then Luke to Jersey, so she wanted to be there in support of him, and as a nice send-off. But it was a lot, a lot of people, a lot of music, and the awful smell of alcohol. An episode hadn't happened in a while once she realized that it was the parties and the environment that were causing them, but she wanted to surprise Luke and be there for his final hurrah. But the second she stepped in she was quickly anxious, she hadn't left her boyfriend's side the entire night, her hands gripping him to make sure not to lose him in the chair that was the hockey house. She squeezed his side the second someone accidentally bumped into her, her face growing red as she silently let tears roll down her cheeks, too out of it to wipe them off. He felt her touch and saw the look on her face, he quickly whisked her away and brought her into an empty bathroom on the second floor of the house. He felt a little panicked as he watched her just blankly stare at her feet, heavy breathing before he remembered the thing about pressure and relieving her nervous system of any stressors that his mental coach taught him about a few months before. "I'm gonna try something okay?" he mumbled as his arms wrapped around her, pulling her into his chest and squeezing her as tight as he could. they stood like that for a few minutes, his arms applying continuous pressure to her as her breaths steadied. "feel better?" she nodded slowly as her hands gripped the soft cotton of his shirt, feeling the soft material between her fingertips before tapping him to let him know that she was okay. he pulled away, holding her a good length away to examine her state, her eyes tired as she wiped away the tear streaks that had remained on her face, "let's go lay down in my room, let you decompress before bed," he said brushing the hair from her face and away from her neck as she weakly smiled and nodded at him

Can we get a blurb of the first time mooch called Dylan Larkin father? And everyone’s reaction to hearing that
it’s during her freshman year at osu and she’s doing a little interview for the social media team and they ask her about the most famous person in her contacts and she goes “i have a lot of nhl players but i think my father (who is not my father) dylan larkin is pretty cool.”
and everyone is freaking out in the comments because she referred to him as her father and then he texts her and is like “i was not aware i adopted you???”
all the boys just sigh and are like “why are you like this.”

I’m Drunk, Baby – Dylan Larkin
Requested: Yes ∆ No
Word Count: 728
Tumblr media
Dylan woke up with a startle after hearing the door slam at 2 AM followed by a loud ‘shhhhhh.’ That noise was followed  by some loud footsteps and bumps against the walls until his girlfriend, Y/N, clumsily opened the door.
You made eye contact with a now very awake Dylan and frowned, “Oh no I woke you up, I thought I was being quiet.”
You stumbled over to the bed pulling off you dress as you went.
“You have fun tonight?” Dylan smirked.
“Yeah and I’m drunk,” you pulled out one of Dylan’s shirts and put it on, leaning over to give him a kiss.
“Really I couldn’t tell? Especially since you taste like a bar.”
“Don’t be mean,” you whined, crawling into the bed.
“I missed you though, next time come out with me.”
“It was a girl’s night I don’t think I was invited.”
“Next time it’s gonna be a girl’s night plus Dylan.” you gave him a peck on the cheek, “and other people’s boyfriends and stuff, but I don’t care if they actually come.”
He laughed before rolling over and trying to get back to sleep but you kept moving around, kicking the sheets up trying to get comfortable but just making them more tangled.
“Dylan why are our sheet broken?” You kicked more in frustration.
Dylan laughed as he got out bed, moving the sheets and comforter to started to tuck you in, as you drunkenly smiling up at him.
“Wait Y/N, want me to wash off your make up first?”
“Aww that would be so nice. I don’t want to ruin the sheets. Or get a big ol’ zit”
He helped you up out of the bed and leads you to the bathroom, sitting you down on the edge of the tub. The moment Dylan turns his back you slide into the tub, flailing your legs in the air and giggling.
“I fell in.”
Dylan helps you up again, you sway a little bit before he steadies you. He grabs your face wash and a wash cloth and gently removes your make up, kissing you once he’s done.
You smack your hands on your cheeks and grin, “I feel so clean thank you.” You then flips your hair over your face, whipping Dylan in the process, “can you put my hair in a ponytail too?”
“Of course babe, but it won’t be good.”
He pulls your hair up and puts it into a lopsided ponytail.
“Can you brush my teeth too?” You ask innocently.
“That might be where I draw the line.”
“Pleeeeeeeeassssssssseeeeee,” you draw it out while trying to give puppy eyes which look rather pathetic while you have little control over your motor skills.
Dylan rolls his eyes, but he’s a great boyfriend so agrees to do it. It’s quite possibly the most awkward thing he’s ever done. Brushing someone else’s teeth feels weird enough as is, but then trying to steady his drunk girlfriend and have you keep your mouth open makes it worse.
You start to gag on the toothbrush and pull away, almost falling back into the tub as you spit at the drain.
“Oh my god Y/N, you couldn’t wait to spit in the sink.” He chuckles as he turns on the faucet wash away the toothpaste.
Then he lifts you up to bring you back into bed. Your knees buckle the moment he stands you up so he opts to carry you the rest of the way. Tucking you under the covers before crawling onto his side of the bed.
You turn over and kiss his shoulder, tucking yourself under his arm to rest your head on his chest.
“Hey can we have sex tomorrow?” You gently run your fingers up and down Dylan’s chest, “I would do it tonight but I think I might throw up if I try.”
“As sexy as throwing up in bed sounds, I think I’m fine without getting any tonight.”
“Perfect cause I’m crazy horny,” you hiccup, “but also crazy drunk.”
“No worries, besides after brushing your teeth for you I’m the opposite of crazy horny.”
“Awww, I hope you still love me.”
“Of course I still love you.” He kisses the top of your head and soothingly rubs your back.
You give a soft smile and mumble an ‘I love you’ back before you’re out like a light.

the very first night (taylor’s version) - dylan larkin
and so it was, we never saw it comin' not tryin' to fall in love, but we did like children runnin' back then we didn't know we were built to fall apart we broke the status quo, then we broke each other's hearts
The first time you met Dylan could only be described as a disaster.
It was at a Red Wings event, one that you were working as a part of catering when a 6’1 brick wall had slammed into you so hard turning a corner that it knocked an entire tray of drinks all over your white button up.
The last thing you expected was the captain of the team to insist on helping you clean up, and he even went as far as to find a spare shirt for you (a request that the hired waiter found odd, but who was he to deny the request of Dylan Larkin?)
He dragged you to a bathroom in a secluded hallway and tried his hardest to pat dry the various colored alcoholic beverages now soaked into your shirt to no avail. You simply laughed off the situation, but Dylan had taken it a lot more serious than you. So, he tugged you along to the nearest supply closet for some stain remover and towels, and before you knew it, half an hour hiding in hallways had passed.
Eventually, you managed to shoo him away once you were changed and ready to head back out there, but he still felt incredibly bad about ruining the shirt given to you by management that he offered to take you out to dinner later in the week to make up for it. It was a completely illogical solution, both of you knew that, but you couldn’t turn him down.
A night of pancakes and waffles turned into going to carnivals and movies and museums, and you fell for him fast and hard. It was a whirlwind of a romance. Dylan swept you up, but to be honest, you were sold on him the second his jaw dropped in apology at spilling five cocktails on you.
And he fell just as hard as you did.
“Do you know how much I miss you?” His voice was hoarse, thick with fatigue, but Dylan refused to sleep until he said goodnight to you. Even if you were on a trip to the west coast while he was stuck in New York.
“I think I have an idea,” you whispered back, a small smile tugging at your lips. “It makes me feel a little crazy how much I miss you.”
You had never, in your entire life, found someone who made you feel like how Dylan did. Your friends thought you had gone insane with how much time you spent with him. All his games, all the dates, all the nights spent at his apartment, you were consumed by him. Dylan’s teammates had never seen anyone fall so fast, and they were mildly concerned about their captain discussing future plans like marriage within the first two months of dating you. They might have intervened had it affected his game, but he was as solid as ever.
“Do you remember the first night we met?” He asked.
“Of course.” You laughed at the memory. “I don’t think anyone’s ever made a worse first impression on me.”
“Worst first impression, huh? I seem to have won you over in the end, though.”
It was late for him in New York. Almost two in the morning and he was sitting in the hotel lobby so he wouldn’t bother his roommate on the phone talking to his partner. They had an 8am flight back, but he didn’t care. He’d sleep when he was able to hold you.
You talked on the phone for another hour and a half before he finally drifted off to sleep, forcing you to end the call. And looking back on all those sweet memories, it was hard to remember where it all went wrong.
In the end, neither of you were really sure what happened. Two months turned into four and then into six, and the relationship had run its course. Nothing major had happened, people tended to drift apart, and that initial spark that ignited you the night you met had been extinguished.
It was no one’s fault, really. You two were a match that burned bright and fiery but were destined to only last a short amount of time. It didn’t surprise either of you when he decided to end it. In truth, you were thinking about ending it with him when he showed up to break the news.
A year after that break-up, and you were still here with your head held high. Waves of sadness washed over you as you fingered the tiny picture in your hand, dated three months into your relationship. It was a picture of you and Dylan, his lips pressed to your cheek in an obnoxious kiss that had you laughing, and you smiled at the memory. It was a familiar sadness that hit you every time you thought too hard on your relationship, but you still held no regrets.
There was no ill will between you two, and you still liked each other’s pictures on instagram every now and then, but you did miss him. It was a weird feeling. You missed what you had but you understood why it ended and you understood that you couldn’t go back and change things.
But oh how you wish you could change things.
If it were up to you, you’d go back to that very first night and do it over. Maybe take it slower and not kiss him after devouring that plate of waffles with the taste of syrup still on your lips. Maybe not say ‘I love you’ nine weeks into dating him. Maybe not propose starting a family with him by suggesting you adopt a dog together.
There were a lot of what ifs in your mind, but you knew it didn’t help to linger on those thoughts. You had your time with Dylan and now it was over and you were okay with it. You would be okay with it.
Hell, at least it would make a good story in the future.

larks going back to umich has me thinking of him surprising his girl whos finishing up school there and all these people are jealous that youve got all his attention
His girl is probably a rosshole (sorry not sorry) but she’s one of the nice ones. Sure he goes and sees the Children of Yost but we know he likes to stand at the balcony on the second level to watch from the corner once he’s got her tucked under his arm.
Comes up behind his girl, who luckily had an end seat near the bench, so it’s easy for him to surprise her, and gives her a good scare. She didn’t know he was coming so the shock is genuine and the cameras definitely catch it. The whole arena gets to watch and Dylan can’t wipe the smile off his face as she hugs him tight.
He doesn’t know how much she needed a visit from him and as she stands on that balcony with him she can’t help but lean into him as he talks with whoever has managed to find their way over to him. She’s content just to have him there for a while though. She’ll demand more of his attention later when it’s just the two of them.

D. Larkin - She’s so High
Tumblr media
Author’s Note: This is 100% for @hockeyandtaylorswift because she produced that bomb-ass Vesey fic 2 days ago, followed by that bomb-ass Gabe fic today. I am blessed. Enjoy the closest thing I have ever written to a blurb. It’s still 2 pages.
Squirming is not helping. You've known this for the last 15 minutes, but it hasn't stopped you from trying, even the extra wide business class seat you paid a fortune for isn't helping.
The person next to you probably wants to kill you. Quickly shifting your eyes you glance at the man occupying the aisle seat. He's calm, cool, collected, scrolling through his phone with only one headphone in his ear. Must be nice. You're a notoriously nervous flyer, hence the inability to calm down long enough to sit still.
Your eyes linger on him, taking in his combed hair and shiny shoes. He's dressed to the nines, it makes you feel shabby in your leggings and hoodie, you might as well be in your pajamas. You're sure his luggage is designer and think to your well-worn backpack shoved into the overhead and cringe.
Assessing him takes your mind off of the flight long enough that you almost forget about it until the flight attendant starts his drill. You get through the seat buckle bit, and the part about the emergency exit, you're shaky through the inflation of the life vest, but when they get to the part about varying cabin pressures and advise you to affix your own oxygen mask before helping others your breath starts to come quickly.
It helps a little bit to close your eyes and count to 20. When you get to 15 you hear him.
"Miss?" You open your eyes, too nervous to feel much embarrassment. "Are you okay?" The plane rolls slowly underneath you and your Dramamine definitely didn't kick in yet.
Your seatmate is leaning in, far over the armrest into your space. He looks so earnest, and you think talking to someone may help.
"I just.." you fiddle with the buckle on your seatbelt. "I'm just a really bad flier. But my sister just went into labor last night and I booked the next available flight and, and," your eyes are getting a little misty and he notices. You can tell because he starts looking as panicked as you feel.
That's about the time that your maternal instincts kick in, pulling yourself together enough to not set off a chain reaction of nervous sobbing on the plane.
"I'm sorry, I don't mean to dump this all on you." He looks understanding. His eyes are sweet and his face is friendly and if you weren't pants-wettingly terrified, you may flirt with him.
It's at this point you feel the plane pick up speed as it begins to ascend and your stomach floats up into your throat, and you close your eyes again, gripping the arm rest.
"I'm going to talk to you okay? Take your mind off of this?" You nod your head so hard you may have shaken your brain loose.
"Okay. Okay, cool. I'm Dylan, I think it's so great that you're going to be an aunt. Do you have any other nieces or nephews yet? Do you know what she’s having" His hand comes down on top of yours on the arm rest and he squeezes.
“She’s going to be my first,” you know he’s doing his best and honestly, thinking about the baby and your sister is really helping put your fear into perspective. “A girl, she’s having a girl.” You finally sit up straight now that the plane has started to level out, but Dylan keeps his hand on yours.
“That’s great. Does she have a name for the baby?” Now that you’re sat upright, you get the full effect of his gaze piercing through you, soft hazel eyes following your movement. It takes a second for you to answer, brain going fuzzy with, fear giving way to a little bit of embarrassment.
“Uh, yeah. Ella.”
He smiles. “That’s pretty.”
Once the wi-fi signal turns on as you reach cruising altitude, you open instagram to show him pictures of your sister’s belly and sonogram, even though you’re sure he couldn’t care less about some stranger’s almost-niece. He makes a good show of it though, opening his own phone to show you pictures of his brother’s dog, “The closest thing I have to a nephew,” he laughed.
You don’t realize how calm you’ve gotten and how much time has passed, giggling over babies and puppies, until his elbow is nudged by the drink cart and he turns to talk to the flight attendant.
“Anything for you, sir?” the flight attendant smiles wide at Dylan and he smiles back before handing her his credit card.
“Can we get two glasses of champagne?” You start protesting, but she’s quick and has the glasses poured before you can muster much of a dispute. Dylan hands you a glass and tucks his credit card away and the stewardess continues to the row behind you.
“Thank you, you didn’t have to,” even the first sip calms your nerves and you’re appreciative for any help you can get.
“Nah, we have to celebrate,” his smile slides across his face slowly. Your stomach starts to feel wobbly again, but you’re sure this time, it has nothing to do with the altitude.

Dylan Larkin and you are best friends but his new gf doesn't really like you so you get super nervous that she will have him stop being your friend
(Side-Note this is loosely based off a Friends episode)
As long as you have know you and Dylan were two peas in a pod. He was you’re best friend, and you were his, but when he started dating Lexi you started to feel like best friends didn’t matter.
You were always third wheeling, but Dylan never made you feel like you were, it was Lexi. She always made it known that she didn’t want you around. In fact you all were suppose to go out for dinner tonight, but you and Lexi got into it when Dylan left the room, making you storm out.
So here you where sitting in your sweats on your couch watching Parks and rec. Your mind was all over the places. What if this ended your friendship with Dylan? What if she makes him choose? What if he picks her? You were snapped out of your thoughts from a loud knock on your door.
“I’m sorry that Lexi made you leave.” Dylan huffed as you opened the door. He didn’t wait for you to speak, before walking pass you and into the house.
“She told me that I can’t hang out with you anymore.” He said as he turned to look at you. You felt your stomach drop as he spoke your fear.
“And?” You asked, your mouth going dry. He shoved his hands in his pockets, as he gave you that famous side smile.
“I told her that I picked you.”

Ramblings: The Carolina Conundrum; Top 20 RFAs; Fantasy Impact of Contracts (July16)
My condolences and the condolences of this entire community go out to the family of Ray Emery, who passed away Sunday when he drowned while swimming in Hamilton. He had not yet turned 36 years old, my goodness.
Emery had a friendly but fiery personality that was a welcome change from the usual blandness of carefully PR-trained NHL players. He played 287 NHL games and was 145-86-28. His best season was in 2006-07 with Ottawa when he started 58 games and was 33-16-6 with a 0.918 SV% and 2.47 GAA. At the time he was 24 and the world really was his oyster. But injuries derailed him – specifically a serious hip ailment – and he could never find a rhythm, never playing 35 NHL games in a season again. But just coming back at all from this particular hip injury was by many accounts a miracle. His last NHL team was the Flyers in 2015, but he did play for the Marlies two years ago. In 2013 he won the William Jennings Trophy along with Corey Crawford, and he’s a two-time finalist for the Bill Masterton – and he got to raise the Stanley Cup with Chicago in 2013.
*
Working hard on the Fantasy Guide. It’s out on August 1 but you can always pre-order it!
*
Going over Carolina for the Guide and this lineup may be the most fluent of all of them when it comes to the group of forwards. The wildcards here are twofold. First off are the players who need to clear waivers in order to be sent down, but they won’t get through. Valentin Zykov and Lucas Wallmark. Second, is Martin Necas. The Canes don’t have a No.1 center and it’s wrong of them to throw Necas there at 19 years of age. But he’s ready to make the team and they need him. Wallmark, arguably Charlotte’s best player and a former fourth-round pick, is ready to make the jump. Zykov, who led the AHL with 33 goals and had seven points in 10 games during his NHL audition, is also ready. Andrei Svechnikov is also ready. Other factors to consider is the fact that Sebastian Aho was tried out at center for the final three or four weeks of the season. Of the current Carolina roster, the players who took the most faceoffs last season were, in order: Jordan Staal (1338), Victor Rask (716), Aho (172). So you almost have to put Wallmark in there. Can’t waive him and it would be stupid to sit him.
But what if Necas is absolutely lights-out in training camp? He’s already clicking with Svechnikov in prospects camp – what if he leaves Carolina no choice?
Here’s what I know: Staal is the team’s best defensive forward; Wallmark could make the team but is not ready for anything beyond the third line; Necas is probably ready for the second line but it would be too much to ask of him to take over the top line; Staal is only one guy – he can’t be their No.1 center and their shutdown guy; Rask was in over his head last year and I don’t think he is even a top sixer. Third liner, to me.
I guess if Necas doesn’t make the team, you could have Aho at center and lines looking like this:
Teravainen – Aho – Svechnikov
Skinner – Rask – Williams
McGinn – Staal – Ferland
Martinook – Wallmark – Di Guiseppe
Zykov is the 13th forward.
And if Necas does make the team, you could see:
Teravainen – Staal – Aho
Skinner – Necas – Svechnikov
McGinn – Rask – Williams
Ferland – Wallmark – Martinook
And Di Giuseppe becomes the 13th forward. Zykov 14th – which is another way of saying he’ll be Josh-Leivo’ed. There is a domino effect with either scenario. Staal is a 40-point player in one scenario, a 55-point player in another. Necas is a prospect in one scenario, and a Calder contender in another. Rask bounces back to 45 points in one, or his value continues to dip in the other. Skinner was stuck with weak linemates last year and in the first scenario here that doesn’t change. In the second scenario – it does. This is what I consider, review, analyze with each team. And being wrong on one thing messes with a lot of other things. Maybe a Carolina die-hard fan has further thoughts on this in the comments below.
*
On a side note, Wallmark’s contract that he signed last week is a two-way deal this year, one way deal next year. More on this stuff below.
*
Some contract news, only the fantasy notables:
Phillip Danault signs a three-year deal with the Habs for just over $3 million per season.
Oliver Bjorkstrand signs a three-year deal with the Jackets for $2.5 million per season.
Michael Kapla signed a one-year deal with the Devils, Taylor Leier signed with the Flyers, Daniel O’Regan with the Sabres and Michael Bunting/Hudson Fasching/Laurent Dauphin with Arizona, Andreas Johnsson signed with the Leafs, Morgan Klimchuk with the Flames – each for one year.
Of note, Leier’s contract is a one-way deal. However, it’s a couple of the two-way deals I want to point out. Johnsson with the Leafs  and O’Regan with the Sabres. Johnsson has to clear waivers in order to be sent down and he’s already proven time and again that he’s NHL-ready. I already have him as a lock to make the team. Why he signed his two-way qualifying offer was strategic – he’s banking on a full NHL season so that he can cash in next year. Meanwhile, my hunch is that Kyle Dubas was thinking about how to get him to sign for two or three years – and I wonder if Johnsson signing his qualifying offer caught him off guard. The Leafs will never – never – waive him no matter how horrible his training camp is. I like his thinking there.
O’Regan would have been in tough to make the Sabres and he can still be sent down without clearing waivers. So he’s as good as off the team to start the year. But he has nothing left to prove in the AHL.
Another interesting one was on Saturday when Nicholas Baptiste signed a two-way deal with the Sabres. He has to clear waivers and I was having trouble fitting him into the Buffalo lineup (much like Carolina, as I noted above). He played 33 games for the Sabres last year but the team is significantly more crowded this time around. And I think he’s behind Justin Bailey in terms of the depth chart – Bailey also has to clear to be sent down, is also a right shot, is bigger (6-3, 214) and was drafted higher (52nd overall versus 69th overall) and I think those things make a difference when teams prioritize who they want to see succeed more. And soon after I wrote the above blurb – Justin Bailey signs and it’s a two-way contract. So he’s in the same boat as Baptiste.
Anyway, for bubble players this is stuff I look at. Thought I’d share.

And here are the Top 8 contracts I will be watching for when it comes to the “one-way” versus “two-way” issue. If they sign a one-way deal I will also be looking at the amount, to determine how nice a chance they’ll be given. I expect two-way deals…and I’ll raise an eyebrow if I see “one-way”. I’ll raise that eyebrow to “The Rock” levels if it’s a one-way and in excess of $1.2 million.
1. Jordan Schmaltz
2. Nic Petan
3. Jon Gillies
4. Tristan Jarry
5. Kevin Roy – Whoops! Look at that! As I wrote this, the announcement came through – a two-way contract was signed later Sunday.
6. Kalle Kossila
7. C.J. Smith
8. Andy Welinski

This year for the Fantasy Guide's "lowdown" (i.e. feature player) for each team, I'm taking it to the masses. In the Forum (here – and you don't have to be logged in to vote) you can vote on each player. Twice per day I've been posting a poll of about 10 players. The top two in total votes get up on Facebook for the final vote – and that winner is the guy I dig deep on in the Guide. It's been a lot of fun and great success. The Facebook readers are getting a kick out of it too.

Eastern Edge: Shot Volume Changes Among Top Talents
The game has evolved to producing more shots – it has been covered by Mike Clifford as well.  Rather than focus on the trend of shot volume increase, I wanted to take a look at the top scoring players in the East last year and see how their shot volumes changed from 2016-2017 to 2017-2018.  Shots create more than goals, they can lead to rebounds and assists as well – so in a future article I’d like to try and tie a bow on the discussion of ixGF, shot, primary assist rates, shooting percentage, and rebounds.  I’m planning on training a model that can use prior year information to predict the future (good luck with that) – nonetheless maybe we’ll find something interesting to hang our hats on for next year.
When creating your rankings the context of your league is important – 10 team – you will have roughly 150 skaters taken.  14 team? You’ll be drafting somewhere around 210 players.  So figuring out how many shots is average in your league is important.  The top 50 skaters by points last year averaged 229 shots on the season, whereas the previous three seasons were about 15 shots less at 215 shots for the top players.  Using this trend as a guideline I thought it would be interesting to see who reversed course on shots per game basis.  Shots are one of the easiest things to mine in fantasy hockey and I simply do not have the patience for 150 shot players.
So without further ado – here are the 10 largest positive shot volume changes in the East:
Note: I can’t wait to draft Kyle Palmieri next year
Nick Bjugstad – What a year from a shot volume perspective, Bjugstad was launching pucks all year long. His health has always been a problem for fantasy owners, but he is certainly trending in the right direction.  His shooting percentage was stable for this shot volume and if anything likely to increase next year compared to his career.  Sounds like a player destined to eclipse the 20-goal barrier (don’t forget to recalibrate how many goals your players should be scoring in order to be rostered).  Since some of you may not be inclined to click every link in articles – do yourself a favor and get acclimated with the revamped Frozen Tools page that Dobber has out.  You will not be able to compete in a tight league next year without this information.
Aleksander Barkov – Sasha certainly showed us all what he was capable of and like his fellow teammate, he also shattered his SOG per game average.  I’m typically terrified of picking injury-riddled players, but sometimes it’s worth rolling the dice on players if they will at least be in your lineup as fantasy playoffs begin.  Barkov should be able sustain his shot volume based on his skill level – as last year’s results become a little more distant it’s feeling like Barkov’s ADP is going to have a lot of value next year if he finds himself outside of the first round.
Alex Galchenyuk – Something has got to give with Galchenyuk, he’s certainly looking at an increase in playing time next year as the cupboard should be mostly bare in Montreal (unless he’s traded).  I think the smart way of writing a little blurb on him for next season is that the volume increase for shots is an encouraging sign that he can put together a season both Hab fans and fantasy owners can appreciate.  His shooting percentages last year were just too low for his skill level, if Peter Chiarelli was in Montreal he would have been traded at the deadline. For those that missed it Galchenyuk’s return is predicted by Mike Clifford as well.
Dylan Larkin – Larkin’s volume increase like Galchenyuk did not translate into extra goals.  Larkin is almost certain to eclipse his goal total if he is able to sustain the shot volume increase he produced last year.  On a bad Detroit team, I like his chances to repeat his point totals from last year – perhaps with his goal total creeping up to offset some of his 47 assists from last year
For those willing to read the entire article – the below table has skaters in the East with greater than 40 points who experienced a drop in shot volume.  These guys are going to have red flags next to their names next year for me – why in today’s NHL did they drop so much?  Stamkos? Even Crosby?  Comment and send me looking for answers – some of these guys will need to be looked at.
