Patterns, patterns, and more patterns! I love an offbeat, unique concept book, but even the best ones are normally limited to shapes, colours, opposites, etc., ad nauseum. So when I encountered Dayle Ann Dodd's "The Kettles Get New Clothes" (2002), I got super excited. Not only is it a genuinely amusing narrative, it teaches...patterns! Stripes, polka dots, paisley, plaid--kids will find names for all of those patterns they encounter in daily life, all in the context of a really cleverly funny, enjoyable story.
