Rampart Ridge in Pasayten Wilderness looms over Lost River across from Nanny Goat Mountain. Lost Peak, the nearest taller high point, sits just under a mile away. Moreover, it sees many of Washington State’s 200 highest peaks nearby.

Little Eightmile Lake, Leavenworth, WA. Mt. Colchuck was the final destination, (after seeing it posted here several times), but enjoyed all of the lakes on this 100 degree weekend. https://ift.tt/2MgTYI4

Axis Peak
June 19-20, 2010
Axis Peak (7550')
I hooked up with Fay, Kevin K, Beth, Karen, and Eileen on a cloudy weekend to climb Axis Peak in the Icicle Creek area. This is the highest point on a granitic ridge separating Eightmile Lake from Stuart Lake, and it provides a marvelous view of the all the big nordwands in the Stuart Range.
We backpacked into Eightmile Lake on Saturday morning, set up camp, and headed around the lake's south shore. After some unpleasant traversing through trees and brush and across slippery slopes, we reached the mouth of a large northeast couloir. We had feared that this couloir might throw some tricky cliff bands in our way, but it turned out to be a white-carpeted elevator to the ridge crest. From the terminating col, we traversed westward and upward over mixed snow and rock to gain the summit horn.
We'd had swirling clouds and occasional rain showers all afternoon, but the weather was clear enough for good summit viewing. Every north face from Aasgard Pass to Goat Pass was on display. The giant facade of Mt Stuart is stupendous from here, and it was enhanced by the play of fog sweeping over from the south.
On descent, we stayed lower on our traverse back to the col, then enjoyed a 1500-foot glissade down the snow couloir. We were back in camp before dark---making good use of the solstice daylight. Heavy rain started somewhere around 2:00am, so we were all glad to have the summit tucked in.
Stats: 4.1 hours from camp to summit; 2.2 hours down; 4600 feet total gain.

Happy Fourth of July! Eightmile Peak by Big Craggy Peak rests on the north end of Isabella Ridge. Together with West Craggy Peak and North Craggy Peak, they form a cirque above No Dice Lake. The proximity to Billy Goat Trailhead allows for a day climb.

Little ol' me on a big mountain surrounded by large trees staring at a huge glacial lake. I've been hiking to Eight Mile since I was young and its strong beauty still sings to me. I can feel my veins buzzing now as I look to the campsite where I spent summers with girlfriends fishing for our dinner, swimming to bath and sleeping through the sound of stalking cougars and hungry bears, waking to fetch drinking water from a stream and exploring the shorelines cut by ice so many years ago. It's a special kind of magic to feel this small and vulnerable out in the middle of the mountains - you feel strong and happy to survive in it. (at Eightmile Lake)

🎶Hello from the other side🎶 A nearly thawed Colchuck lake rests far below. ° Taken from a Dragontail Peak summit boulder. The trail head can be "seen" from here, along with the end of the road in (FS 7601/Eightmile Road). Another objective of mine (planned several weeks out), Cashmere Mountain, is also prominently featured here, a little right of center, 3/4 up the picture. ° 📸 June 2018 📍 Dragontail Peak, Alpine Lakes Wilderness, WA ° #DragontailPeak #AasgardPass #ColchuckLake #TheEnchantments #PNW #PNWonderland #PacificNorthwest #PNWdiscovered #WashingtonState #LiveWashington #NikonD3400 #rei1440project #nikon #nikonusa #wanderlust #WildernessCulture #HikingCulture #UpperLeft #USA #optputside #AlpineLakesWilderness #AlpineLake #wanderlust #Wanderer (at The Enchantments)
