Finals are over and I was bored, so I decided to draw my Ninjago OC Eli in the Monkie Kid style!
Tumblr media
I’ve never drawn in the Monkie Kid style before, so I used a template made by the amazing @rinkunokoisuru ! They’re incredibly talented with drawing in the Monkie Kid style, so I highly recommend that you check out their work! The template I used is also on their page, along with other versions!
This turned out surprisingly better than I thought it would for my first attempt, so I might draw more characters in this style - I guess we’ll see!
(BTW, I will most likely draw Eli’s hair differently every time I draw her because I suck at keeping a consistent style with dreadlocks.)
Template I used:

Really funny when a show subconsciously changes your association of things. Ask a Ninjago fan what colour element lightning is and they will answer blue no hesitation as if THAT’S the most normal answer (it’s not)

i find it really funny when people complain about like...'oh, they have [insert thing here] in the game that is set in medieval times when IN THE REAL WORLD that thing hasnt been invented yet in that time period!!!'
its like. well. you see. we are playing pretend in a fantasy world. there are dragons. i dont think it's meant to mirror real life development stages. its tuoys. were playing tuoys.
Like, no harm done here! but maybe you need to relax a little...

Oh yeah, I guess I'm also a newly minted broadcast engineer that does stuff with big TV and radio transmitters once I get to the peak, but who cares about that right? \_(ツ)_/¯
hey @bisexual-engineer-guy if you wanna re-spec you can do this for a living. There's always some radio station looking for engineers like us!

Star Wars films ranked in order of their technical innovations:
Star Wars (1977): innovations: motion controlled cameras, immersive sound design, high tech puppets, unified aesthetic that was unique from prev. sci fi films, welded fantasy and sci fi together, brought back vista vision/wide screen technology from the scrap heap and updated it, iconic costumes based on actual military equipment and historic royalty rather than imagining a "futuristic fashion," created Industrial Light and Magic effects company which funded R&D to create new cameras and equipment for the film, used percentages of the film's profit to pay actors and others involved in the project.
The Phantom Menace (1999): The first all digital studio film, computer graphics used for backgrounds/sets/whole environments, extended motion control cameras with digital environment, fucking amazing costumes borrowing from period films and classic Hollywood to bring the universe into a more sumptuous plentiful past, motion capture used to create integrated digital puppets.
Empire Strikes Back (1980): stop motion animation updated to include the motion controlled cameras for more realistic/seamless animation (compare to Harryhausen's Clash of the Titans which came out the next year to see what I mean), Lucas used the profits of Star Wars to expand ILM and give it a permanent home where effects artists weren't working in sweatshop conditions anymore, created a licensing company to try to stem the tide of unlicensed Star Wars products, a fire on the set of The Shining at Elstree studios lead to a dedicated Star Wars stage being built there which is still used to this day.
Return of the Jedi (1983): steadicam which was relatively new tech, customized by the inventor for the speeder bike chases, created THX to try to improve sound equipment in theaters because the sound mix for the film was too complex for the old sound systems used during test screenings.
The Force Awakens (2015):pulled back from the maximalist aesthetic of the prequels using more real sets, environments and models thereby creating a cohesive look that fused the two previous trilogies, made the film without having a clear outline about where the trilogy was going, giving freedom to future filmmakers to make changes to the story or to fill in holes, (not necessarily a good thing, but it was the first time it was done for a blockbuster trilogy), recreated most of the story beats of Star Wars (1977) in the updated sequel.
The Last Jedi (2017): Contains the most practical effects of any Star Wars film, with the most sets and creatures ever built for the franchise, literally set canon on fire, leaving writers and directors free to create Star Wars product that doesn't fit with previous canon/continuity.
Clone Wars (2008): First fully animated film in Star Wars universe, was the pilot for the TV show, integrated materials from the star wars Expanded Universe comics and novels.
Rogue One (2018): Used digital technology to allow Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher, who had died, to appear in the film by digitally combining their faces onto the bodies of other actors, first attempt to create a "gritty" Star Wars that reflected more of the reality of war, final scene with Darth Vader creeated 100% digitally.
Revenge of the Sith (2005): Lucas used a three camera set up and combined all three digitally, which allowed a much faster turn around time for completing shots, held the world record at the time of the most effects shots ever in a film.
Attack of the Clones (2002): continued with the innovations of Phantom Menace, creating the first entirely virtual film studio (for example some of Ewan McGregor's work was filmed on the Moulin Rouge sets with the actor in an entirely different location than the rest of the people in the scene, fewer models and real sets in general.
Solo A Star Wars Story (2018): used effects techniques such as rear projection and stop motion animation from the OT, but cleaned them up in the digital environment. For the first time used an effects company in addition to ILM.
Rise of the Skywalker (2019) Returned effects to the province of ILM, but the film was produced by Bad Robot, JJ Abrahams company (All the other films either produced by Lucasfilm or Disney).

ive always kinda disliked soras elemental powers of technology and i thought it was just my initial reaction to it being the obvious "thats not an element!!!!!! thats stupid!!!! blah blah" and thought I'd get over it eventually but as someone who studies computer science and does a few forms of coding as a hobby/potential future career i realized that part of the reason i disliked it was that it removed the entire process of making technology. like designing it, building it, programing it etc was all just removed and she just sticks things together and boom its a mech

nothing rubs in the fact that lightsabers have a perfect aesthetic design and are one of the most fuckable weapons ever put on film like imagining an alternate reality where the movies used EU-comic-style protosabers, which require plug-in power packs secured to the belt by a cable like some kind of ungodly batman ass grappling hook thingamajig. im so grateful that lightsabers are a standalone hilt with a crystal inside lmao there's such a tremendous difference between just some goddamn contraption and excalibur

Gonna be a downer tonight and say that as much as I love the opportunities to learn and to meet new people that technology has given me, I still hate it more and more the older I get.
This is kinda weird coming from someone that seems to be always on Tumblr, but I really.... Really am coming to hate technology with a passion. Nothing seems to work. Everything has to update or else. You could be using your computer in the way that you always did and suddenly boom, your antivirus decides a problem is happening even though you didn't do anything. Corporations steal my information and I have to always be connected. "oh we don't use that app for videocalling, can you download this one?" "oooh we need you to sign up for this, or else we will deny you service!" "oooh there are sudden damaged files in your pc, make a scan to fix it!" how about I cry instead.
I am becoming increasingly technophobic, yet I rely on technology to keep in contact with loved ones and do my hobbies, and I just wish i could stop, or that all of this continuous updating could stop and tech companies would finally optimize their damn products instead of releasing wildly unoptimized and vulnerable shit into the world. I am currently so full of rage and anxiety because my pc gave me and alert and I will not be able to sleep tonight. Thank fuck my dad is there to check things with me and hold my hand as I scan stuff, and I dread the day when he will be gone and I won't have his calming presence beside me as I do yet another scan or try to download a program.
This is depressing, and anxiety inducing, and I'm so done with technology and cannot let go of it. What the fuck.

Morrotober,day 1
Summary:Young Morro tries to understand what his power is.
(Morro here isn't referred to by name because I hc it to take place before he got a name he liked)
He has powers. That's what sensei said when he saw the boy flying the kite. His teacher had explained it then. Apparently the boy had elemental powers. He likely inherited them from his parents whom he neither remembered nor wanted. He had a home now. He had sensei Wu. He didn't need anything else.
"I believe it is air you control, young one." had sensei said when the boy asked, but that sounded wrong. He didn't control. The power he wielded wasn't a puppet for him to pull the strings at. It felt like...he wasn't sure. He couldn't name it. It was a language of whispers and movements to direct the flow, it was a conversation only he and the breeze could understand. How was he supposed to explain that?
What he spoke with couldn't be air. It wasn't his until he willed it to move, because otherwise air was still. Air didn't move and he didn't speak with the air. He spoke with the breeze that always accomponied him, that played with his hair and caressed his face, the breeze that was never still.
He didn't say anything of it until he read the book his sensei gave him. Of hurricanes, storms, flow of air. Of the atmosphere and space void of the air he didn't control.
"To better understand your element, you must understand how it's the part of the world. How it affects others. Your's, air, is everywhere and so, you bear great power that you must wield responsibly."
Together they read it, sensei Wu explaining all the small boy couldn't understand. It was in one of those times that he finally found an answer.
"Wind is the movement of the air that happens due to-"
"Sensei?"
"Yes?"
"I'm not a master of air. I think I'm the master of...wind."
