I've used a lot of makeup over my last 9 years of cosplaying, but this is whats in current rotation. My criteria for products is affordability, what performs well irl and in photos, and products that for the most part have a lower rating on the ewg scale (with few exceptions). I also don't really buy makeup outside of sale events like Black Friday, after Christmas, or during some promotion just so ya'll have context about the price ranges listed per item.

That said, this is more to share products and tools I use to create a base for other looks! So things that are more personal like eyeshadow, lipstick, blush etc were left out as that's really more of preference for each person.

I've included product links under the cut, if anyone has a cosmetic gem they've found over the years I'd love to hear recs!

The “My GF is Stunningly Gorgeous” Makeup

When I’m painted by number 🥰

Time attempted: 02:35hr

Tools recommended: triangle makeup puff (for diffused, natural finish), angled powder brush, powder brush

Prebase:

I massaged COSRX Snail Mucin Essence into my face with my facial massage attachment on my new brush and heated facial massage tool, along with my cold cream and Clinique cream last night.

I moved the excess down my neck & décolleté. This morning, my face was still tacky from the essence so I didn’t rewash my face.

Base:

*I “warm up” everything on the back of my hand to avoid cakeyness.

First, I squeeze out the tiniest dot of L’Oréal True Match Lumi Glotion in Deep to be mixed in with my MAC Mattifine Primer because I’ll be using more of the tint in areas that require more coverage and sweat first, like my nose, temples, philtrum, around my nose and my outer face.

Squeeze out another dot of L’Oréal True Match Lumi Glotion in Deep with my ELF Power Grip where I need to glow and a tacky hold for under my eyes and eyelids. My eye area is especially important for my eye makeup selection, so I use a little more.

Lastly, use 2 dots of Lumi Glotion with either matte or dewy primer on your neck for the tint to stay cohesive.

Eyes

Apply 3 in 1 tint on eyes, or dust lids in your natural lid color. Corresponding shimmer or deep matte, then eyeliner in brown or black that corresponds with your skin tone.

Foundation.

I use 2 tiny scoops of Clinique Age Transformation Cream to create a natural finish, (I got it for free in a sampler, wouldn’t go out & buy it) along with a pump of Smith & Cult Microblurring foundation in 460 Warm (discontinued) on the back of my hand, then pat it heavily with my makeup puff.

**I now use IT Cosmetics CC+ Nude Glow Lightweight Foundation + Glow Serum in Deep in place of the S & C foundation + Clinique Cream.**

Pat lightly to not disturb my primer base from inner corner to outer face, then distribute it across my face, patting in more to dark spots.

My foundation still doesn’t cover the texture of the spots, but that’s fine, it’ll look unnatural if I went further.

The point of my foundation isn’t to cover my natural skin fully, but to disguise dark spots while allowing my natural skin to show through.

Concealer.

Keep in mind, I have an oval face. I use my Smith & Cult Cancelled V-Line concealer in 260 Warm (discontinued) to sculpt 2 faint lines from the side of my nose to under my eye & upwards. Pat in carefully & lightly as to not disturb foundation or base.

The effect is brightened eyes with a highlighted, slimmer face that’s enhanced with warmth & depth.

Contour.

I use my Essence Baby Got Bronze cream bronzer in Mocha Me Crazy as contour for my nose, below top of cheekbones, and forehead. Blend into hairline and temples. I used to use it generally, but I found it doesn’t add angles to my face well, or if I did it well, it would disturb my facial harmony by looking gaunt & longer.

I follow up with my Black Radiance powder contour and sculptor in Medium to Dark.

Blush.

I use 2-4 rouges and blushes for a healthily flushed effect in layers, since my skin tone isn’t 1 color. I LOVE SHADING!!!!

I swirl 2 dots of LBCC Bloom of Roses Liquid Rouge at the highest point of my cheekbones, patting in with a makeup puff. It’s a pink that’s very faint, but you can go in with more layers.

My 2nd blush is LBCC Superior Rouge (limited edition, no longer sold) and I swirl 2-3 dots downwards mimicking the flush after exercise on my cheekbones.

My 3rd blush is Elf Putty Blush in Bali, and I sweep across where my cheek contour goes.

My 4th blush is Colourpop Serum Blush in Hibiscus (discontinued), and I barely squeeze out any product, patting in 1 dot above the ELF putty blush.

Pat lightly. Use Bare Minerals Original Veil Powder with powder brush, swirl on back of hand for even distribution, sweep across where I applied. Brush away excess.

Time for powder blush. I sweep the darkest shade in COVERGIRL Instant Cheekbones Contouring Blush in Peach Perfection only on top of my cheekbones.

Next, I go in with my PINKFLASH blush color 07 on top since it best represents my healthiest cheek color, and sweep downwards until I see it strike under my eye in natural lighting.

Highlight.

Since my PINKFLASH blush has shimmer in it, along with my contour highlight, I dust my Sephora highlighter palette (discontinued) in the pink, gold, and light gold shades.

Add in places where light strikes on eyelids.

Lips.

Hydrate with lip balm on Q tip, wipe excess. I use LBCC Bloom of Roses Liquid Rouge on my lips, cheeks & eyes since it’s a multipurpose product. Apply any clear lipgloss over.

If I want to wear lipstick, I’ll wear brown lip liner beforehand and blot in pink lipstick to allow my 2 toned lips to show through.

Okay, bestie I am thinking of starting to do my own makeup again and getting serious with it but I am a little stuck. It has been years since I did my makeup and I need some guidance. Like, I know everyone has their own ways of doing it. I am looking for a more natural look and don't wanna overdo it with the makeup. So, I am going to experiment with different concealers and foundations (first) so I can find the right one that works for me. But when it comes to concealer and foundation do you think one is more necessary than the other? When it comes to wanting natural-looking makeup? Or do you think that is something I should decide for myself? And when it comes to a natural look is there any makeup product that I should look into more? And is setting spray necessary or not? What about using primer?

Okay so I don’t use concealer ever unless I’m using it as an eyeshadow base underneath an eyeshadow primer (bc my eyes are sensitive to glitter so I gotta have a lot of layers up there for a cute shimmery eyeshadow look) so for my everyday makeup, concealer isn’t important to me at all. I much prefer a full coverage foundation over a slightly less coverage foundation supplemented with concealer, but that’s definitely personal preference and you’d have to play around with it a bit to see what’s your preference. The same goes for any product that you think would supplement your natural look more. Like some people use highlighter a lot for their natural looks, and some don’t. I personally only use blush and bronzer and stay away from highlight for my everyday looks, but that’s definitely also a personal preference. A lot of makeup is just messing around and seeing what you like best on your face and what really gives you the look you’re going for.

As for setting spray, I’m a firm believer in setting powder AND spray. And I powder the FUCK outta my face before I hit it with a mattifying setting spray but that’s bc I prefer a matte look and it’s hot and humid where I live so I like to ensure my makeup is really set. However, you may be more into a dewy look, so you could get a hydrating setting spray and powder less. That’s definitely up to you, but regardless, I would say setting spray is a definite need. Just see if you like dewy or matte finishes and play around with it a little, see which suits you best.

I’m also big on primer. I LOVEEE a good pore minimizing one (elf poreless putty primer is good if you’re wanting a cheaper one than a luxury brand) bc it makes my makeup sit better on my skin and wears better. And it doesn’t make my pores look bad.

But also, you have to keep in mind that like some people on tiktok/YouTube do their makeup and use filters and their faces look overly smooth with no texture but skin does have texture, even if it’s clear. So if your makeup doesn’t look exactly like theirs, it’s not bc you’re bad at it or anything, you’re just seeing your actual skin. Which is even better than it being overly smooth, I think!

hiii thanks so much! 💖🫶🏻i must say i do have a few tricks

•unsure about a product? literally just type in “(product name) reddit” on google and you’ll find people sharing their true opinions. when you go on the sephora site and check reviews, a lot of them will say “received free product” and people tend to not be honest when getting free things. also join the sephora and ulta sub reddits to stay updated on all the promos, gifts with purchase, etc!

•you’ve probably saw me talk about them on my blog a hundred times but SHOP MISS A i’m telling you truly is a great website. i get so many makeup and skincare essentials from there it’s unreal. so good for my budget baddies! when shopping from there though i recommend sticking to their in house brand AOA Studio and their charity lines such as A+ and PawPaw. I use their AOASkin cleanser and it’s so amazing at removing makeup but it doesn’t strip your skin at all. i love their squalane moisturizer and their gel one in the green pack.

•always keep a mental note of your drugstore ride or dies. i know that high end brands products and sephora sprees are really trendy right now but don’t forget your roots! you always want to have cheap products you know you can rely on, regardless of who you are. what happens when you run out of your $40 foundation and it’s not payday yet, but you need to do a full beat? idk ab u but i know wet n wild is gonna come in clutch for me

• DO NOT buy the elf putty bronzer. so random, but that product is so hyped up on tiktok for no reason. the product gets hard quick and it’s patchy to blend despite how much working around i did to try and make it work.

•DO buy the elf satin foundation and the contour wands 😮‍💨especially if you are looking for a good drugstore contour, just buy it. it’s a new holy grail for me that i’ll definitely be repurchasing. it blends so good, has a smooth texture, and $9. my only tip would be to take the sponge applicator off, i squeezed out 3 uses worth of product from it after the FIRST time i ever used it.

•if you have facebook, depending on a couple factors you can get free sample ads to pop up. it’s very legit, i’ve received sample BOXES from macys and bloomingdale’s. i just got my bloomingdale’s box and it came with a mini valentino lipstick and many perfume samples! it does take time and patience, you won’t get one right away.

do: have ad tracking turned on and join the “freebie hunters” group. when somebody posts their screenshot of a sample they got, go google the product, search on the internet like you have actual interest in it. it’s a lot of watching and waiting, but i’ve received literally dozens of things from these little ads. basically all i do is google makeup and perfume and hope i get them on my feed. joining that group keeps you up to date on what to look out for. i’m sure you can google it and there will be something else explaining it better than i can if i don’t make sense😅

Favorite products for the summer 🌞?

Kitty’s Summer Must Haves:

I love wearing a good sun bunny bronzed look over the summer so here are some of my favorite products for the ultimate sun bunny look! 🐇💕

Bronzers

Bronzers are a great investment for that sun kissed look. I recommend the Sun Bunny Bronzer from Too Faced Cosmetics, the Hoola Bronzers from Benefit Cosmetics, the Putty Bronzers from Elf and both the Sun Stalk’r + Cheeks Out Bronzers from Fenty Beauty for that perfect sun kissed beat!

Blush

Peachy blush + orange blush tones are my #1 summer essential when it comes to my makeup. Some of my fave blushes are the Galifornia Blush from Benefit Cosmetics, the Putty Blushes from Elf, the Nars Liquid Blushes and Fenty Beauty’s Cheeks Out Blushes.

Highlighter

With summer around the corner, I love applying a golden highlighter to my face for some extra glow. Benefit Cosmetics Cookie Highlighter, Wet N Wild’s Golden Flower Crown Highlighter, Colour Pop’s Super Shock Highlighters and Fenty Beauty’s Trophy Wife Highlighter are perfect for achieving that goal.

Eyes

I always stick to nude eyeshadows when I’m going for a sun bunny makeup look and use to bright colors for when I’m feeling more bold + colorful. Too Faced’s Born This Way Sunset Stripped Eyeshadow Palette has the perfect summer neutral colors and the Olori #1 and #3 palettes from Juvia’s Place have the best bold summer color stories ever. Don’t forget to pick up NYX’s Epic Ink Liner or the Better Than Sex Liner from Too Faced Cosmetics for doing winged liner and faux beauty marks.

Lashes

You can never go wrong with a pair of Kiss Lashes especially from their Lash Couture collection. I love to rock my natural lashes by growing them out with the Grande Lash Serum and applying some mascara like the Better Than Sex Mascara from Too Faced Cosmetics.

Lips

I love wearing glossy lips all summer long. Some of my lip faves for the summer include: Fenty Beauty’s Hot Chocolit and Glass Slipper Gloss Bombs, NYX’s Ginger Snap and Angel Food Cake Butter Glosses, Buxom’s Lip Plumping Gloss in the shade Dolly and any Lip Injection Gloss from Too Faced Cosmetics.

my base routine pt 2 ୨♡୧

contour/bronzer:

i use the elf putty bronzer and the makeup revolution fast base foundation stick . i dot the foundation stick pressing gently 2 dots on each side of my forehead and chin, 3 dots on each cheek then on my cupids bow and under my bottom lip. after i place these i take an angled brush with the elf brozer and blend the dots making sure to go upwards on my cheeks. then with a flat brush i draw on my nose contour and blend out with a small fluffy brush. then i apply the makeup revolution powder bronzer with a big fluffy brush and small fluffy brush everywhere i applied the cream bronzer

blush:

after i finish blending my contour i apply nyx powder puff lippie as cream blush and etude cookie blusher on top, i apply the cream blush in 5 dots on my cheek bones, 3 dots on the outer corners of my eye lids, 3 dots on my chin, a dot on my nose, on my cupids bow and under my bottom lip and blend with a beauty blender. then apply the powder blush on top.

highlighter:

first i used the abh moonchild pink heart highlighter, then the fenty wattabrat then the diamond bomb. i apply these on top of my cheeks, nose and under my brow.

setting spray:

i use the makeup revolution infinite and fix & glow sprays. i spray the infinite after im done with all my cream and liquid products, after im finished with all my powders and one last time before my lips. i spray the fix and glow at the very end of my makeup as a finishing spray.

For sure! I love drugstore makeup... I really like elf products, their brightening concealer in the clicky pen is my fave, the putty bronzers are also really good. I've heard good things about the putty primers!! Their ride or die lip balm is a good balm dotcom dupe and may actually perform better imo. I only use drugstore mascara, my fave is Maybelline Sky high in cosmic black!! I also love the loreal voluminous mascara in cobalt blue. My target has NYX which has the best lip liners and really good color cosmetics in general, lipsticks blushes etc. I don't use their complexion products though, idk how good they are besides their primers which I hear great things about. Milani is a shitty brand pr wise but they make the best drugstore products imo, I love the cheek kiss cream blushes, the matte lipsticks, the lip liners, their bronzers, pretty much everything they make is good it feels very high end to me. My target also has Winky Luxe which makes really on trend lip products that have that k-beauty popsicle sort of look.

is there such a thing as a cool toned bronzer or is that the same as contour? because i'm looking for one to wear in the winter

Sort of. Bronzer is supposed to give you a sun-kissed, warm, tanned look, whereas contour is to create the appearance of shadows. Because bronzers are supposed to make you look like you have a tan, they're almost always warm or neutral toned and they'll usually have a shimmery or glowy finish. Contours are usually neutral or cool toned, the way that shadows on your face would be naturally, and they typically have a matte finish.

So I think which product is best for you probably depends on what your goal is and what your natural skin tone is. If you're looking to add definition, then a cool-toned contour is your best bet. If your skin is naturally light and cool toned, and you're looking to add some warmth without it looking orange, then I would look for a bronzer that's either a neutral toned brown or a peachy pink (mimicking the color cool-toned skin turns when it gets some sun).

Some products that I've seen people recommend for this are Bobbi Brown Bronzer Powder in Antigua, Milani Rose Blush in Romantic Rose, NYX Sweet Cheek Blush in So Taupe, Tarte Park Ave Princess Bronzer, and ELF Putty Bronzer in Feelin Shady:

🎀quick review of my flip app order 🎀

elf putty bronzer- i got shade feeling shady and it’s more of a contour than a bronzer as it is very cool toned. color wise i find it to be the perfect contour for pale skin +it’s a creamier dupe of the fenty matchstix in shade amber imo :)

essence my rose will go on 6 pan eyeshadow- i love the colors inside this so much, they are my everyday kind of colors anyway! the colors are so soft and blendable. the shimmers are beautiful, but i really appreciate the highlighting shade because it isn’t really glittery but has just enough gleam to highlight your brow bone without making it look like you slathered blinding highlight under ur whole brow

bye bye panda eyes mascara by essence- i was honestly expecting more, it is smudge proof like the bottle says, and removes very easily, there is no clumping like at all but my problem was that i felt the formula was a little dry and it didn’t give my lashes the extremity i was hoping for

kimchi chic puff puff pass powder- LOVEEEE. it has rice powder in it and i think that’s what makes the powder so buttery soft feeling and yes it rly feels that way. it gives a rly pretty blurring look and it’s hugeee so you get a good amount of product. they also have different shades. i apply with a triangle powder puff

kimchi chic marshmallow butter lippie- such a cute lipstick! i got shade cafe au lait looking for a dupe of lanas old signature shade blonde ingenu. it isn’t as close as i thought/hoped it would be (still on the look out tho, i’m waiting for more possible dupes to come in my mail) but it is still a really pretty light nude and the formula is really creamy and hydrating. it comes in some really nice colors. i want to try nineteen, nacho, and woot woot. this lipstick is really pretty with a brown liner and just a smidge of color on the lips

elf concealer brush and putty bronzer blush- i honestly really loved the brushes so much! the concealer brush just really blends concealer effortlessly and is great if you hate absorbing product/want a more full coverage look as opposed to using a beauty blender. the bronzer brush was a little smaller than i expected, which was actually really great because it allows me to really snatch my contour and you can control where you want to blend out easier

I'm a makeup girly!!! Add a gel primer right before the skin tint, this will make it more glowy and last longer. I like the milk makeup hydrogrip, I'm sure other people have similar ones since it's popular. You seem to like really simple, natural makeup so the only other suggestion would be a slightly glittery powder blush, Nars has a bunch, since I'm too pale for most bronzers and contours I tend to use it as contour so you could try that. It's just nice to have some warth and glitter, you know? If you want to up your eyes a bit use a thin brush and do a little wing with brown eyeshadow.

Omg i completely forgot that primer existed! See I tired a wing once and completely messed my make up look up and they terrify me to do now but i didn’t even think about trying it with eyeshadow? Should i try the wing with a light brown or dark?

my base routine ୨♡୧

primer:

first before doing any makeup make sure u wash ur face and apply sunscreen !! for primers i like to use the e.l.f putty primer then the jelly pop dew primer (i think its discontinued sorry ): but apparently the power grip primer is the same thing).

foundation:

next is foundation for everyday i mix the morphe 2 hint hint skin tint, elf camo cc cream, milani soft focus glow complexion enhancer and nyx born to glow liquid illuminator in equal parts. i dot this on my face then blend with a juno&co beauty blender.

concealer:

after foundation i apply the elf hydrating camo concealer in 3 shades, 1 shade lighter than my skin tone, 2 shades lighter then 4 shades lighter. i take the first shade and apply it in a U shape around my nose not yet touching my under eyes. then i apply shade 2 on the outer corners of my eyes and nose and let them sit while i do my brows ♡ after i finish with my brows i blend the concealer shade 1 then 2. then i apply shade 3 in my inner corner and a small line down my nose and let that sit while i contour.

powder:

then i set my undereyes with the elf prime & stay finishing powder with a beauty blender and my whole face after i finish applying my powder blush and bronzer
