I went back to the year 2021 and listened to another episode of That Thing I Do, episode: Live from New York. They talked right after Elsie Fest.
Darren: We're talking about Elsie Fest. I started the festival 2015. It's more just like a line-up of festivals of different people in a fixed space. I'm wearing a couple of different hats when I do this thing. I wouldn't recommand it to anybody, cause you have to produce it, you have to curate it, you're playing it. You're kind of the face of it. You're doing press for it. It takes a lot out of me and it's probably one of the most hectic times of the year for me. Which is why we didn't have time to get a guest this week. And honestly this time I spent on getting guests was the time I spent on getting performers for Elsie Fest. So I think I triaged correctly. I needed to get that festival going. And it was our triumphant return.
It's hard for me because I'm doing all the backstage stuff. Like when you play festivals or even a fundraiser or something where there's maybe two or there's just another performer, I always feel bad cause you meet them backstage, hang out and it's a great hang and you don't always get to see their act. I make it my business to go for Elsie to all the rehearsals to see what they are doing, because on the day it's logistically impossible for me to sit and enjoy the festival. So I actually don't really get to know how the audience experience is. I kind of have to collect information.
I wonder if Elsie is dead forever or if someday Darren might revive it.

When we go this August, we're going like Elsie! Elsie Fest, Broadway's outdoor music festival, will be back on August 29 at the 2021 BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival. Now in its 6th year, the event was founded by Darren Criss and celebrates stars and songs from the stage and screen. "We are thrilled to bring BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival back to Prospect Park this summer, " said Kristina Newman-Scott, President of BRIC. "Our benefit concerts allow us to keep our beloved festival alive and thriving, bringing our diverse community together with artists from around the world and around the block. Join us for three incredible nights with The Roots, Wizkid and Elsie Fest. I can't wait!"
