Insektober day 27: Pollen

Ft @emilyrosebug's black widow Verigreen, Violette!! I rlly wanted to draw her n Zarojo having tea together. I also really wanted to draw Violette's house! It fascinates me that Verigreen society is presumably flight dependent and yet Violette lives in it without wings & it made me rlly think abt how she lives as a spider in a bug world! So her home is hyper specialized specifically for her-- it's all one web with several shelves, and the lowest point is the center of the web that holds a table; her dining room! She can't really eat solid food, so the table has indentations that can hold cups and bowls and prevent them from falling, but she doesn't own any plates since she has no need for them.

Zarojo is very comfortable climbing onto Violette's web since they're friends, but I imagine most bugs would be very scared about it! After all, the web's kind of sticky and wobbly, so your average Insektor would probably stumble around and fall over! Or worry about being eaten! But I'm sure Violette only drinks other animal blood, not Insektor blood. She's not a vampire or cannibal! (though IRL black widows TOTALLY eat hymenopterans and weevils and beetles lol. So I guess she and Zarojo do have something in common even though she might eat them irl????)

I like the idea of these 2 being friends cuz they match in a lot of ways I think... I mean, they're both named after colors for one, and they're cute characters based offa scary bugs irl, so they're both a little misunderstood! Zaro is also pretty antisocial n doesn't have a whole lot of friends outside of their sister, so I think it's nice that they n Violette r pals!

Fun fact, I have this list of like,,, not rlly canon Insektors design conventions I follow whenever I make a new bug OC and I sometimes break them when I draw others' characters! One of them is that my designs can't/don't have normal eyelashes, which is why the only character I designed that has them, is Unity, who has antennae that look like eyelashes! Anyways so I break this rule every time I draw someone else's Insektors OC cuz it's a funny rule I made up and only I follow it LOL. If you're curious, my other 'conventions' are that the Insektors can't have eyebrows and they can't blush. They also never have accurate limb counts and they have varying eye counts lol. It's always like,, 2 less limbs and however many eyes look good in the design? Like did you know those drops on Zarojo's forehead represent their oceli? Now you do. Max straight up doesn't have oceli! I just reference them whenever I feel like it lol!

Insektober day 10: Flowers!

Suzy pays a visit to Flora's flower shop and buys a bouquet! Flora belongs to @emilyrosebug.

Suzy is my OC, she's a paper wasp queen. She's like a semi-authoritative Verigreen? It's hard to say since Verries don't rlly have traditional leaders, though Suzy feels kinship with her fellow wasps and ants and tries to better life for them any way she can! She is kind and calm, but also very protective! I think unlike her Krud analogues (Bakrakra and Prometheus to a greater extent) she isn't unhappy with her role in Verigreen society simply because there's no pressure for her to be something she doesn't want to be. She can just do her thing! And so she will. Today's a nice day for flowers, so she bought a handful from her friend!

Don't ask me abt flower size continuity or I will be VERY sad bc it took me foever to draw them LOL. I didnt have to go this far for a damn daily drawing!!! my hand hurtz...

Insektober day 23: Fusion

Goldsturdy, the fusion of Krabouic (Drumsturdy) and Goldenrod. I designed them for @emilyrosebug's Fusion Katastrophe story; she calls them Rodbouic in the fic since I suppose it makes more sense. Though, I think Goldsturdy sounds cooler. Like a beautiful staff you hit someone over the head with! LOL.

They're a fusion of two hyper-patriotic egotists from opposite factions, so as a result Goldsturdy has NO regard for Kruds OR Verigreens and only cares about making themself stronger. Their existence is very much a sorta... toxic power trip for Krabouic. Haha, they're toxic cuz they're a Velvet Ant lolz

Sylex’s true colors! (I actually haven’t drawn them in color prior to today, I just kinda gave @emilyrosebug vague instructions of ‘indigo and orange with red eyes’ as a color guide LOL)

I designed them for Emily’s fanfic/AU, Fusion ‘Katastrophe’... as you could probably guess from their name, they’re a fusion of Synapse and Alex. I think they’re very wise, but also a bit eerie/frightening at times. Their wings are a bit flimsy, they feel like very rough, torn up flower petals. Their goggles are actually a second pair of eyes, but can be detached and moved around like regular goggles.

today’s prompt was ‘humanized’ so um gijinka time lol! 

these are actually tweaked versions of designs made by @emilyrosebug cuz she drew all my verigreens as humans a while ago lol! Most of the changes were just kinda adjusting the designs to my style, but I did change Kachhua’s cape n altered all 3 character’s facial features a bit so they’d better reflect their bug counterparts. I also gave Irid eyeshadow n eyelashes cuz I thought they suited him well.

I will say, idk what the Insektors world’s real life analogue would be location wise (I assume probably france or somewhere else in europe cuz the show itself is french) but I generally wanted the characters’ human forms to reflect where the actual bugs are from irl-- so Kachhua is Indian, Goldenrod is American, and Iridamorous is Australian.

daily drawrings for october lol

i have decided to go with my usual informal 1 drawing per day plan like I did last year, but I will ALSO take a stab at a challenge a friend of mine made up: Insektober. Inktober, but it’s Insektors! Here, I’ll link the prompt list in case you’re curious:

the first image features Panacotta Fugo from Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure part 5, as well as 2 OCs of mine (who I forgot to introduce before lol)! Bowtie guy’s name is Farfalle Ricci, spikey collar guy’s name is Salata Lucertola. They form a sort of informal team with Fugo (post-Purple Haze Feedback), though they haven’t been accepted into the gang; neither of them have ever met Giorno or Mista. Fugo sees a lot of Narancia in Farfalle, but Farfalle has never heard that name in his entire life, and it seems like no one else around Fugo has either. In Salata’s case, Fugo’s never met anyone like him before. Their stands, although not pictured, are called ‘Pixies’ and ‘Computer World’ respectively.

The second drawing doesn’t have a fancy description lol, it’s just Lukanus making some noise with his weird pipe instrument!! Today’s prompt was ‘Music’.

I dunno if the Insektober drawings will all be colored in, but I do want them all to be traditional art in some capacity, though they might be mixed-media? depends on how I feel day to day tbh lol. My informal daily drawings can be traditional or digital, just whatever I feel like drawing. I’ll try to do Insektober every day, but I may skip a few informal daily drawings if I feel too tired. (that way I will still draw daily if I only draw the Insektober prompt hehe)

I didn't draw this late I just forgot to post it. The funny bugs but theyre splatoon characterz!! I dont rlly know anything abt splattoon I just thought itd be fitting since they fight by splashing colors onto each other? Though I must confess I'm not even sure if black ink is canon in the game n I don't know what determines the ink colors. You can't pick them yourself can you LOL. Also I do realize this means Aelia and Fulgor r on different teams cuz they're diff colors but I think thats fine cuz they get in each other's way a lot and they will TRY to work together but they might accidentally sabotage each other a few times lol. also thanks to @emilyrosebug for picking out splatoon weapons for the characters lol.

I guess this is kind of like my gijinka headcanons for some of the insektors characters?? ? Which is different from the Chromaverse cuz the characterz r different races and ages since I designed them based on my own interpretations. I dunno if I'll go anywhere with them, it might just b a one-time thing cuz I like drawing the bugs as bugs (there r several characters of mine who I have no idea how 2 translate into humans cuz their identities r so heavily tied to their bug species), but hey, I do have gijinka ideas if I ever want to use them again??? Also I hope it's not too difficult to tell who's Krabouic n who's Kaboche??? Krabouic is on the left n has "slicked back" hair while Kaboche is on the right and has slightly spikey hair. I think they're supposed to be much older than Aelia and Fulgor but I have no idea how to convey age in inklings??? How old are the ones you play as and what does a fully grown one look like?? I dont know anything abt this game help??? w/e it was fun 2 draw anywayz

Insektober day 5: Chromaverse!

For those unaware, the Chromaverse is @emilyrosebug's insektors AU! It's like a gijinka AU but specifically stylized like a highschool magical girl show (winx club/miraculous adjacent I think? Disclaimer I didnt watch EITHER of those lol) so all of the characters r the same age (with a few exceptions) and they all have magical powers (again with a few exceptions).

Goldenrod and Akane's powers are the Chroma of Swords (Goldie calls it 'Chroma of Blades' cuz it's not always a sword for her) and Chroma of Cold respectively! Their colors are actually abnormal-- usually Sword is depicted in green and Cold is depicted in Cyan-- I cant actually explain why in-universe I just made them that way cuz it looks cute and cool LOL. Goldie's color is yellow/gold cuz of her namesake, while Akane's color is pink cuz its cute and very feminine! And because I watched MLP Twinkle Wish Adventure too many times as a kid and that planted the idea of pink snow in my mind so her ability's kind of a ref to that but not rlly.

Goldenrod's Swords power allows her to summon copies of a single type of blade and use it however she wants. However, it's a different type of blade every day she uses her ability, she never uses the same blade two days in a row, and it's completely random which blade she gets. It could be something badass like a chainsaw or a khopesh, or something useless like a butter knife!

Akane's Cold power allows her to generate ice and snow, which she uses to heal her allies (since ice has anti-inflammatory properties)! She doesn't like to attack, but she supposes her ice CAN be sharp enough to hurt someone accidentally, maybe. She's mostly interested in using it supportively, so she can also create (flimsy) ice barriers and can run on water by freezing it under her feet.

Also! I silently renamed Akane earlier this year! You might remember her as 'Okagne'-- I changed her name cuz Akane sounds cuter and is also a real name people have LOL. Look, some of my funny bugs can have silly names that make no sense, but Akane deserves to have a better one!!
