I commissioned a piece of art from my niece to make a picture of a Wren songbird. Why? Well, because we now live on Wren Drive in section of a neighborhood people call “The Bird Streets.” I love that it reminds me of my Grandmother Faye Milam who loved birds and could make just about any bird call and whistle there was! I used a very old vintage frame that belonged to my other Grandmother Peggy Dodd and took it apart so I could frame the art and hang it on the wall. I think it turned out beautifully! My niece, Abigail, is so extremely talented!! My new Wren songbird is perfect!
in our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion we were asked to share our own next step. learning this week that “we can only move at the speed of trust” that piece will also be in my #nextstep #allinforkids #whateverittakes #cismidamerica #niea #empoweringkids #communitiesinschools #2019LTH #whatwearemadeof @cismidamerica (at Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile) https://www.instagram.com/p/B2maTfGBl6i/?igshid=cfzh05jhn2d0
"I presented my last talk for 2019 this week. It was a special morning. I feel truly blessed to have been given the platform to share our Purple Splash Studios journey, our work, our books, and our hopes and dreams for children around the world. A huge thank you to everyone for your belief in the work that we do, and for your love and support. There are exciting things happening in 2020 and I look forward to sharing this with you and working with everyone to help us reach more children. They deserve to believe in themselves, their greatness, their importance in the world, and the power they hold to make a difference to their own lives and the lives of everyone around them. Two things here: Firstly, I’ve finally purchased ‘The Book of Mistakes’ which I have seen reviewed on here so many times and decided I just had to get. It’s such a beautiful message about working with mistakes and how mistakes are necessary part of our learning and can be the start of something great. It reminds me of my art teacher at collage who used to encourage me to make mistakes and then use that as part of my artistic process. I’m not going to lie, I found this a massive challenge as I am a perfectionist but maybe if I had more books like this around me when I was younger it may not have been so difficult. Secondly, I have started to get back into chapter books and this one has been on my list to read for such a while. I am only part way through ‘The Wonderling’ but I can tell I am going to get attached to the main character, Number Thirteen. Watch this space for a proper review!
