remember this? well. let's go!

both ena and an have pretty famous fathers, and it was always somewhat expected of them to be worthy of their legacy, in some way. both of them were told, "of course you're good at art - you're shinei's daughter!" and "of course you're good at singing - you're ken's daughter!" respectively.

they were always perceived via their fathers, not allowed to step outside their shadow and be seen for themselves. they couldn't be ena or an.

and, you know, for a time, they went along with it. i mean, they were good at what they were doing.

but then... all comes crashing down.

for ena, there's the obvious bullshit that's going on with shinei. completely destroying her. because she admired her father, because he was the reason she wanted to do art to begin with, and he told her to her face that she would never be good enough.

her entire world fell apart, that day.

because no matter what she says, ena wants the approval of her father more than anything else. she wants him to tell her that she's worthy of being his daughter, that all her hard work amounts to something; anything.

but then, there's the eventual revelation that she wasn't anything, actually. she wasn't special.

everyone was better than her.

before, ena was a fish in a small pond, and of course, she was among the best. but now she's been dropped in a vast ocean, and she's small, and insignificant.

devoured by all the other fish.

one of them - and admittedly, the most important of them all - being futaba. she joined after ena, but she proved herself in much less time than her. and, even succeeded where ena failed - she never gave up, even when she was harshly criticised. never regressing artistically. never running away from art.

and there's something else, somewhere deep down - a fear. a fear that nightcord will abandon her when they realise she can't keep up with them. that she's not as good as they thought she was.

what will happen of her, then? she'll be all alone. unloved.

an goes through something similar.

she meets kohane, and she decides that this person is going to be her partner. that they're going to surpass THE rad weekend together, that no one could be better for this task but her.

but when she starts that relationship, it's with the assumption that she'll always be the teacher and that kohane will always be the student.

not in a mean, or pretentious way, no, not at all. simply, an was always told there was no way she couldn't surpass rad weekend, since she was ken's daughter. in her small pond, she was also among the very best.

but then, an realises something, too.

kohane is much better at everything than she is.

very similarly to ena's situation with futaba, kohane made much more progress in barely a year than an has in years. taiga - one of the old RADers, and somewhat of an uncle for an - recognised her potential, and asked to train her. not an, but kohane.

and of course, an is happy to know that! because that's her partner and friend, and an is happy to see her grow more confident and get better every day. because she cares. because she loves her.

but there's something in her chest - something that hurts and aches. she has to face the fact that she's not as good as she thought she was, that she isn't worthy of her father's legacy. that she isn't worthy of being kohane's partner, that she might be holding her back.

that she might be abandoned. left behind to rot.

what will happen of her, then? she'll be all alone. unloved.

to me - ena and an are two kids suffering under the weight of a legacy that's too heavy for them to carry, but that they can't let go of. they're also struggling with seeing their peers succeed where they repeatedly fail. they're all about being terrified of being abandoned because they're not good enough.

they're both confronted by this fact.

and it terrorises them.

she doesn’t get out much, but nothing will stop her from leaving her house and searching for you as soon as she gets an “i’m lost” text message from you. she’ll ask you to describe things around you and stay put until she reaches you, a gentle, relieved smile forming on her face when she finds you <3.

she’s more than curious about you. she wonders how one person could be so… scatterbrained, for the lack of a better word. in your own way, you remind mafuyu of one of her peers from school…

she’ll help you with any technology issues you happen to have, wether it be telling you your phone turned off because it’s dead and needs to be charged, or prevent your device from getting a virus due to you accidentally clicking a certain link.

she prevents you from wandering off and getting lost by simply holding your hand. mafuyu will keep you close to her, her hand in yours as you two walk to school. if you do happen to get lost, however, a soft, genuine smile will form onto her face as she begins her search for you.

# ena (東雲恵那) 🎨

if ena had to describe you in a simple term, she’d go with the word “airheaded”. by no means is she ever irritated or annoyed by you, you could never piss her off — in fact, she finds it rather mesmerizing… in her own way.

a conversation you and your girlfriend have had many times is about your phone. “ena?” you call, and the artist turns away from her canvas to face you. “yes?” “my phone turned off randomly. can you see what’s wrong?” cue a loving sigh from her as she puts her paintbrush down and walks over to you, taking your phone from your hands.

ena has considered installing a tracking device onto your phone for whenever you get lost. of course, she’ll always stop what she’s doing to go and get you whenever you lose your way, scoffing slightly at mizuki’s comment to “put money in a jar whenever [name] get’s lost”.

# mizuki (秋山瑞希) 🎀

mizuki thinks your absentmindedness is adorable! you’re already cuter than any person they’ve seen, and your airheaded personality doubles it!

“mizuki,” “hm?” “something is wrong with my phone.” they giggle softly before taking your device into their hands, telling you that you accidentally powered it off by holding the power button for too long.

mizuki is two steps ahead when it comes to you wandering off. they had installed a GPS onto your phone so they can easily find you! whenever they’re with you on a walk, they hold your hand and pull you close to avoid any mishaps <3.

all of nightcord have terrible carpal tunnel for different reasons, and trade tips a lot.

ena has it worst because of her art, and she hates it. it makes her feel useless, and like her body is fighting the only thing she is really good at. (not projecting at all lmao) she slowly starts incorporating a wrist brace into her outfits with the help of mizuki.

kanade has it bad too, because she’s always at her computer. honami makes her small ice packs, and encourages her to rest it, as do the rest of n25. it’s exacerbated by her hypermobility and bone issues too.

mafuyu’s is from constant writing and her archery, but it started getting better once the pressure from her mom stopped, and when ena bought her a wrist brace. the pain faded into the background for her, but it did bother her. she originally wanted to get injections or surgery on it, but her mom refused due to the recovery time.

mizuki’s is mostly from sewing and editing. she is always cracking her knuckles and doing wrist stretches, but they actually tend to make it worse, so the others try to discourage it. she didn’t realise anything was wrong, until she mentioned the pain to rui and he was like “I get that too, go to the doctor”.

mizuki and ena always complain about it when on vc, and do tend to try and one up each other about it, as dumb as that is. they’ve also all incorporated actual breaks into their routines, so that they can all keep an eye on their symptoms.

I hope this doesn’t break any rules or anything, I just wanted to project onto my favourite group for a bit lmao.

Today's Anti-Kawaii Character of The Day is Ena Shinonome from Project Sekai! While she primarily wears Girly Kei (Dark Girly mostly) but she also wears Yamikawaii and other J-Fashion styles in the game! Her backstory of being a struggling artist (something I can relate to) matches her into the classic Menhera archetype despite not being associated with the subculture! Other than that she's also an Utsudere!

I see a lot of people say An was one step away from becoming Ena and what stopped her from being so was the fact that she had more support, and I do agree with that sentiment (although it really depends on how does one interpret "being like Ena"? Depressed? Wanting to disappear? Self-hatred? There's just a lot that Ena and An share, they just have different tastes and personalities to express that, but their issues as of late are very similar. Ena's did indeed start earlier though), but I think we're missing a point.

What An had that Ena didn't was community.

An didn't just have friends and her father and family to fall back on, the whole street was actively engaged in raising An and pushing her to develop as a singer, from encouragement to valid criticism. An has learned that people who criticise her singing also want her to improve, which is a different kind of critique that Shinei gave Ena. Overall that presence of many people who were on the same wavelength as An was is what made her the way she is.

As an artist, however, Ena was extremely isolated. Not that she didn't have friends, but she wasn't a part of an artist community in the same way An was. Even when she did try to find one, it didn't stick (art classes). Later on she also struggles with people not engaging with her art. Not with engaging with it negatively (that too), but not at all, which is, in my opinion, the worst kind of situation to be as a creative.

Sure, Ena could turn out to be a very different person if not for the way Shinei treated her; however, if she was a part of an active, vibrant and encouraging artist community like An had in her childhood and middle school years, I feel like she would have been a very different person with or without her father's support.

...(i didn't know if you wanted headcanons of akito and ena separately, or together, so i did both! I hope you enjoy!!)

I personally headcanon Akito as a kid regressor, around 5-8 when he's little!! He is definitely a little brother regressor, even with people other than Ena! He just has little brother energy!

Secretly so clingy!!! It's not something he wants people to know, but when he's small and with someone he really trusts, he will always be close to them!!

With Vivid Bad Squad, he tries to hide when he's feeling a bit smaller than usual, but his partners are quite good at picking up on his small traits, and the slightest affection and care from them makes him the smallest boy!!!

Surprisingly picky when small. Carrots are obviously a big no-no, but it's hard to get the little guy to eat any veggies when he's small!! Why would you eat anything other than pancakes and cheesecakes?

Surprisingly, a great playmate!!! He gets along much better with people when he's small, and enjoys playing! With older regressors he can play sports, with smaller ones he can color and play pretend with!

ENA U^ェ^U

Like my headcanons for Akito's age, I believe Ena is a kid regressor, probably around age 6 on average! She maintains her pride even when she's small, standing firm on being a big girl when she's small, even though some petnames or sweet affection has her feeling so small!

Her artistic flair doesn't disappear when she regresses! However, her art makes a shift, from painting with brushes, to finger-painting! She makes the most beautiful pieces for her friends, being the talented little creator she is!

With Niigo meeting at 1 A.M., a little Ena struggles to stay awake for that meeting. There have been a few occasions of Ena regressing and falling asleep to the sounds of her friends voices on Nightcord, but it's so adorable to think about, how could they possibly mind?

The plushies in her room get the most use when she's little. If she is feeling lonely and can't chat with any of her friends, she has sleepovers with her plushies!! And, of course, she still enjoys selfies and photoshoots when little, so she can occasionally dress her plushies up and take photos with them to send to her friends!!! (they find these photos so cute)

We all know Ena is very stylish and aesthetic, caring about her appearance greatly, which carries over into her regressions! She loves playing dress up, having so much fun, being a pretty princess, a famous artist, a model, anything she can imagine while going through her closet!! ...she's a bit shy about this pastime, but she enjoys it so much!!!!

TOGETHER!!

You might not assume this from first impressions of the Shinonomes, but they are some of the cuddliest regressors ever!!! Playmates, caregivers, and especially eachother, they cuddle with all of them!! When the Shinonomes are small and sleepy, they cuddle up together with plushies and nap!!! They were a bit shy about it at first, but its grown into an important part of their bond when regressed.

Ena is occasionally quite whiny when she's little, wanting to play, color, cuddle, dress up, and being denied these fun activities only makes her whinier. Luckily, Akito, who I believe is an amazing playmate, is always up for it!! Anything for his big, or sometimes little, sis!

While there is some snark and argument in their relationship still, it is definitely muddled. Regressing is a very comfy, safe thing for them, and part of this comfort involves their happiness together. They play fight, wrestle a bit, horse around, but at the end of the day, the two siblings care about eachother deeply.

I think they get closer because of nene allowing her to like. Have a say with what goes where I guess? Ena normally doesn't have any control over what she wears and what she gets to do, so nene allowing her to not only refuse certain things but also to let her have a PART in what she gets to wear touched her a lot. (Maybe... ena who never broke through her struggles with art and fully converted to posing and looking cute for social media who eventually got picked up by a modeling agency... and nene who reawakens her passion for art with her passion...maybe....)

I think this is like in a fantasy esque au but also if ena ended up becoming like her dad; successful and miserable. She doesn't go out almost ever, only ever when she needs supplies or when her annoying roommate (fes Mizuki)drags her outside. Nene I think is a high noble, who's known for her lovely voice. Neither Ena or Nene know who the other is (ena does not bring nene into her dusty ass studio). Ena gets a commission from the Kusanagi family and is like "THE KUSANAGIS? LIKE THE FAMOUS KUSANAGIS? THOSE ONES?" And she meets nene again and they're both like "THAT WAS YOU???"

I know nene is underwater ignore it. They're both flower nymphs who's flowerpatches bloom next to each other. Nenes flowers seem to hang from something so maybe one day she slips and falls into Ena's flower patch (she doesn't get hurt, thankfully) . Ena is initially apprehensive around her but the friendly human who takes care of both of their flowers (rui) encourages her to give Nene a chance. Nene is really shy but manages to visit Ena and strike up a conversation. Ena. Well. She falls in love like five minutes in. Gay panic once again. They get closer, nene coming down to visit Ena more and more and ena coming up to visit nene occasionally. They fall in love get married and shit this one is just really cute and wholesome, no stakes I think

Nene is a traveling musician along with her friends, Emu, Tsukasa, and Rui. They give shows not only to the people of the towns they visit, but also to the fairies and mystical creatures who decide to sneak a peak at what they're playing. Ena is one of these mystical creatures, a fairy who was drawn in by her beautiful voice. She never goes far kest she worry her friend, Mizuki, who despite their apprehension seems to be interested in the troupe as well... maybe because of a certain flutist?

Anyway. Ena gets a bit too sloppy one day and gets caught by none other than Nene, who is actually quite kind to her, which surprises Ena, as most humans would try to catch her. They become friendly quickly, and ena has a tiny crush (as if she didnt already have one) by the end of the night (can you tell I like a certain dynamic between them.) Nene eventually has to leave, but she promises Ena that she will come back one day. Ena simply can't wait for that day to come.

She doesn't notice at first, simply assuming that you're nervous and that maybe you just need a bit more time! Overtime though, it starts becoming clear to her that you're not doing so good.

She tries to open up the topic, but since she's so sweet it's easy for you to shut it down before it gets too deep. Every attempt of hers gets farther than the last though, especially with her accidentally making you feel bad, so you gave in.

"Ah! Nonono, I didn't mean for that to b-be the case at all... You shouldn't be afraid of hurting me, please. I can take it, if I know it was in an attempt to love me. I just want you to try... Try for me, for our relationship. Only then will it feel more comforting, like romance is supposed to be."

She can't help much since she struggles a bit with some forms of affection, but she still manages to ease your worries by showing you hers, and letting you know that you can do it as well if you try!

Her gentle voice puts you at ease whenever you make an effort to return those actions, and she couldn't be prouder that she's helping someone like you to change! And that also means extra inspiration, of course.

Mafuyu Asahina

Probably the most intimidating character of the gang of 20, it's easy to see why being in a relationship with Mafuyu would be intimidated. However, that's not at all what she wants of you!

She's always been incredibly perceptive, so she can tell that you're holding back when you two are together! This does confuse her, as she had believed that the relationship was made for the opposite reason...

Her approach to the problem is incredibly blunt. She pushes the topic with brute force, unbeknownst to the fact that you're struggling with the topic at first. She does let you speak your mind when you're ready though.

"Hm... I never thought that showing affection was so hard, even when you were perfectly aware of your emotions. However, you do know the problem, and you should attempt to overcome it. If you don't, then it's not going to change, is it?"

She doesn't know how to help you, since she struggles to understand what you're feeling, but she does a good job letting you try out different ways of showing affection! Just try not to let her coldness get to you...

Eventually, she starts helping you understand that this fear is just an illusion that's stopping you from enjoying the relationship, and that you can easily overcome it when you really try! (Now if only she could use this advice for herself...)

Ena usually dislikes it whenever someone hides their real feelings, however, she understands when it's painful to speak of them, or act accordingly! She treats a friend like this, after all.

She notices easily when you seem to be holding back with your signs of love, even though you're both in a relationship already! It does frustrate her, but she never lashes out at you. At least, not violently.

There will be a confrontation eventually, as the artist needs to get everything straight before she starts assuming, and so she simply seeks a reason to your actions, avoiding judging you for them.

"Ah... Yeah, I definitely get it. It's scary to think about it, I know, but you don't have to let your fear control you! I know I can be impatient and even temperamental, but I do truly love you! We are a couple, we accept each other's faults, problems, and errors as well!"

She helps you out, showing you how to show affection, gently asking for it from time to time until you get used to giving it without prompting, and constant reassurance that you're doing well!

And if you mess up, she not only helps you move on, she teaches you how to do better next time once the fear and paranoia passes, and not make that same mistake ever again.

Even before you were romantically engaged, Mizuki's presence has always been sort of imposing, with their teasing, and light-heartedness, along with their mature nature.

They're also quite perceptive, so they easily notice how you've been overcome by fear and uncertainty. And just as fast as they notice, they take action. After all, they would hate it if this relationship was straining on you!

Their attempt to corner you into a confrontation is very subtle and tricky, making it hard to see through until the topic arises, and they refuse to let it drop. Especially since they're so good at getting you to open up.

"I see, so you were getting pressured by this romance, huh? Well, I'm not really going to judge you. Why would I? I was the one that was pressured before it was official, remember? No one knows how you feel right now better than me, so you understand when I say that you should relax, right? Because it's the same thing that worked for me!"

It isn't a lie, as the seamstress's fears of getting abandoned by the people they consider closest to them is strongest when speaking about romantic relationships, but just as they try their best, they inspire you to do the same!

Soon enough, their growing comfort with making soft affectionate advances on you will also help you with your fears! Because if they can do it, you can as well!

Usually in Project Sekai, I don’t really have any people I ship as a polycule,..well except Nightchord25. And there’s good reason for that too because there bonds with each other is just so…mwah. But anyways, why are they found family you may ask? Well they’re 4 mentally ill teenagers so plenty hurt and comfort there. There’s Kanade Yoisaki a girl who’s mom died at a young age and father is in the hospital because of stress. Kanade blames herself for her father’s hospital trip and compensates for it developing a savior complex, becoming a hikikomori who creates music in an attempt to “save people.” Her lifestyle is quite unhealthy as she spends most of her time creating music neglecting food and sleep. Next, Mafuyu Asahina the lyricist and arranger who has a “good girl” facade but in reality is unhappy and empty as she lacks an identity due to her mother’s manipulative behavior causing her to be a people pleaser. She’s spent her whole life pleasing others that she’s forgotten her own self, that she wants to be when she grows up? Well her parents want her to become a doctor but she truly doesn’t know. Thirdly is Mizuki Akiyama, the video editor. Despite Mizuki’s cheerful and peppy demeanor which contrast the other characters, Mizuki is an incredibly lonely person and is ostracized at school. This is because Mizuki is heavily implied to be biologically male despite dressing in feminine clothes. There’s a lot of debate on Mizuki’s gender identity but one thing for sure is that because of Mizuki’s looks, the students around them think of Mizuki as weird and strange. Lastly but not least is Ena Shinonome, the artist, Ena’s a very blunt person with a bit of a tsundere personality. Despite her outgoing demeanor she is also surprise, surprise, depressed. Ena has a social media account to that’s quite popular but what really matters to her more is her art account which barely gets any followers. Ena is an aspiring artist, wanting to become professional. But she struggles with her lack of talent as well as her inferiority complex because of her dad brutally telling her that she can’t make it in the art world and that she has no talent for it. Which…while I get what he’s trying to say as he is also an artist,..that isn’t exactly the best thing for him to do.Now that I’ve introduced you the cast, what’s there relationship like? Kanade has a special bond with Mafuyu as when Kanade and the others discovered that Mafuyu’s happy mask was a hoax and in reality she’s lost all hope and is empty, Kanade vows to help her find her true self which at first by creating more songs. Mafuyu denies the help but eventually gives in. Throughout the story Kanade learns to understand Mafuyu more and aaahh we see Mafuyu start to crack a smile every once in a while because of Kanade’s music. Kanade has also helped Ena by giving her encouragement with her art as Kanade genuinely likes Ena’s art and Kanade is the only person who Ena never bickers with. Mizuki has also helped out Kanade alot with them pushing Kanade out of her shell and making her go to places more. Mizuki finds comfort in n25 as they’re Mizuki’s only friends which why it hurts them so much as they fear that they will leave Mizuki if they found out their secret. In this way, Mafuyu and Mizuki foil eachother with Mafuyu being her true self with Nightchord meanwhile Mizuki hides their secret from Nightchord cuz of their fear of possible backlash. Both of them out on a facade one way or another. Ena ended up sensing that Mizuki was hiding something and in the end tells Mizuki that she’ll be waiting as long as Mizuki wants to tell their secret one day which makes Mizuki feel even more guilty. Now Ena’s relationship with the Mafuyu. At first Ena doesn’t understand Mafuyu. She doesn’t understand why she’d wanna disappear when Mafuyu is so talented which is something that she wants. While they definitely didn’t get along in the beginning slowly but surely they started understanding n being friends<33. There’s probably more I missed but I’m sooo tired lmfao

struggling with wonder rangers' (toya, emu, shizuku, honami) story but here's the notes for the other units in my unit swap copied directly from my phone. i'm working on this still.

Star x CHASERS:

ichika got really close to tsukasa when saki was in hospital to the point that she felt closer to him than honami and shiho. (the girls are all still in touch though! all the phoenix wonderland trips are on hona)

tsukasa still tried for a job at the theme park but didn’t get in. coincidentally so did minori! they met and got along. he let her talk about haruka for ages because saki was a massive fan of idols a few years ago.

an joins the group when shiho takes ichika to weekend garage to hang out. saki was off that day and honami was working. an asked if she could borrow shiho’s bass for a little bit because she used to play and hers was too small. shiho let her just in case ichika thought she was rude not to.

ichika did find the untitled song on her phone that day. she wanted to show it to shiho but ended up not doing anything. she told saki who said tsukasa’d found something similar and wasn’t that a weird coincidence.

also minori had a lot of doubts about being the band’s drummer. she knows about honami and doesn’t think she’s anywhere near that good. she’s only been playing a few years and honami’s had a long time to practice. ichika doesn’t mind. an’s not that great at playing either. the point’s that they’ve got something to work towards now.

kanade got into idol work recently. she played at a few big-ish concerts like she did before her dad fell ill and then got a call from the people who had hired her about contributing to FANTASISTA’s newest song as a guest artist. she did that because she thought it was an interesting challenge and then akito reached out to her.

akito had been working as an idol (and a model) for a long time. he’d been scouted for ASRUN once, back when they were massive. he knew a lot of people. haruka from ASRUN itself, shizuku from another idol group, who modelled with him sometimes, that girl who was on tv with him once or twice and who might’ve known ena. that composer who was his age and really damn good. she looked like the type of person his agency would love.

nene was in a few big plays as side characters and a few smaller ones as the lead. she didn’t think she was doing well enough and then one of her castmates started playing some old ASRUN songs. nene fell down the idol rabbit hole and thought she’d try out for something. her anxiety was so much better than it had been, right?

haruka had retired from idol work a while ago. she was going to talk to her old agency and manager about her prospects soon because she still loved singing and performing. just not like she had been. and the girl auditioning right now looked so nervous about it.

haruka ended up talking to nene to see if she could help. nene did get told she was perfect for them but they didn’t have anywhere to put her. haruka suggested a collaboration with akito shinonome from FANTASISTA (i'm so original). they could turn it into nene’s debut and haruka’s big comeback.

just one problem. there was a composer who was great at her work and a budding performer with nowhere to go.

team vivid hope:

ena gets into street music because akito really likes it and she wanted to see what it was like.

airi needed an excuse to cut ties with her celebrity life so she could go back to school properly (she eventually claimed it was a matter of creative differences). that’s how she ended up wandering around town thinking about how to tell her manager she wanted out. maybe she’d check out weekend garage and holy shit is that ena. singing. live. in the street. like some sort of proper musician. and with all these people around?

kohane was in that crowd and already knew an (like the canon story i guess)

shiho knew an as i said and got along with kohane.

so, kohane musters up the courage to tell airi that if she liked this sort of thing weekend garage was a good place to go.

airi drags ena there and when she’s looking for something terrible that ena could sing she finds the untitled song.

saki met mizuki online when she was looking for people who liked a magical girl anime she was getting into. saki was out of school a lot because of illness and mizuki skipped. they were always online at the same sort of time.

n25 existed for a bit before kanade couldn’t because of her idol work, and ena found more important interests than a circle of people she didn’t know in real life.

mizuki stayed in touch with mafuyu because they knew mafuyu needed the support. kanade would have done the same but she was so busy with her work.

mafuyu’s usually credited as OWN in house of nocturne’s songs.

rui knows mizuki from junior high and found her on nightcord so they got in touch. mizuki introduced mafuyu to rui and saki tried to introduce rui (her brother’s weird friend she knew on nightcord) to mizuki. they already knew each other.

Ena Shinonome has BPD

An essay by yours truly [w mostly dsm5 criteria and outside of that my own experiences]

1: emotional instability.

We see several times that Ena reacts to things very quickly and very extremely. She gets extremely mad when her art doesn't work out properly or gets really upset like clockwork.

2: identity disturbance

Ena seems to struggle with her identity as an artist especially earlier on. Despite knowing she can draw she can easily be knocked back to rock bottom and starts thinking she can't draw at all.

3: splitting

When mafuyu was told to be making her own music, while the others tried to see the situation in more than one way Ena immediately decided that Mafuyu was talking behind their backs. Mocking their songs or her art. We went from "Mafuyu was making solo work" to "mafuyu is more popular than us and is making fun of us for it". Black and white thinking

4: unstable relationships

While her bond with Akito is def largely sibling stuff, her very bad bond with her father shows this.

5: fear of abandonment/wanting attention

Ena craves the validation from others to feel stable and happy, constantly asking if her art.is good or posting selfies. Apparently she shoved her father into a lake once cuz he didn't give her any attention[or not enough].

6: the suicidal thoughts

This is a main theme of Niigo but Ena ofc shows it too

7: rejection sensitive

Not bpd exclusive but I find it interesting that she takes ANY criticism as a personal attack

I'm happy to see that you resonated with my interpretation of him, I think he's undeniably one of, if not the most, nuanced and interesting parent figures. I'll be touching everything currently released on JP, using a translation for the most recent Ena event

So firstly, he is not as bad as Mafumom. This isn't a high bar, but it is clear to see that he is very different, and this is from one key difference: he never makes Ena do something, he advises her to not pursue art, something I'll develop later, but he ultimately lets her make mistakes, lets her create art, and eventually supports her in her goal. Meanwhile Mafuyu's mother makes decisions to stop mafuyu making music, stops her from talking to her friends, and does not take anything anyone else says into consideration, once again unlike Shinei who does, who listens to Akito about being too harsh and taking steps to improve. Mafumom disregards Kanade, and does not have Mafuyu's best interests at heart, Shinei does.

From the most recent event, we learn a lot about him. Shinei was in a state of depression, essentially, unable to be successful and convey his feelings at the same time. People didn't understand him, and he felt as though he didn't achieve anything, he almost quit art completely. However, Ena being born saved him, no other way to phrase it. He cares about her more than anything, he describes her as "a light" and created one more painting, a peony, that Ena recognises as being a spark of light among the dark of the rest of the paintings. This painting, and Ena, gave him confidence to continue painting. He said that he couldn't live without art, and kept going for Ena. This is, without doubt, one of the most selfless and truly noble motivations a character has in the game, fully living and working for others.

However, here is where it gets difficult. Ena starts to make art herself, and wants to be an artist, but when she tells him, he ultimately cares for her. and in his eyes, the best thing to do is to try and dissuade her from this life, he has seen how difficult it is for people, seen how people won't understand, won't be kind, and so says that she doesn't have what it takes, and wouldn't gain recognition. This is not received well, understandably, but This could be said that they both struggled with understanding the other and communicating, and so Shinei ultimately hurt her more than he helped. He didn't understand how he hurt her, and she didn't understand what he meant, but her feelings were still the same.

So when he tells her that she has to get used to the repeated sting of failure, and will have to work hard, he is genuinely trying to help, to lessen her pain, but he doesn't understand what is wanted. And so, when Akito confronts him, Shinei seems to take it, and when he next sees her he critiques it fairly, trying to both compliment it and give feedback.

Throughout this, we can see clearly that he, while being poor at communicating or understanding what Ena needs, genuinely does care for her, arguably making him better than most of the parents we see. I think we'll see him in more Akito and Ena events to develop his relationship with them, and how he is improving. He's the biggest example of an NPC that truly has changed and improved himself. I find he is an often misinterpreted character, but an interesting one. Thanks for asking this and feel free to add more to this

Nightcord at 25:00 Main Story Summary

TL;DR: Nightcord at 25:00 is a pre-existing music circle consisting of Yoisaki Kanade (K), the composer, Asahina Mafuyu (Yuki), the lyricist, Shinonome Ena (Enanan), the artist, and Akiyama Mizuki (Amia), the animator. The four work remotely through a messaging app called Nightcord late in the night.

Over voice chat one night, Enanan brings up a mysterious new composer named OWN starting to gain lots of popularity with their cold, empty songs. The next day, while Yuki and Amia are working during the day, Mafuyu's mother interrupts the call, telling Mafuyu she's proud of her for helping struggling students but wishes she'd spend more time around academically gifted people. She also hands Mafuyu documents for medical school over dinner while saying Mafuyu is allowed to do whatever she wishes. However, Mafuyu realizes she has no idea what that is.

After this, Yuki suddenly stops logging on to Nightcord. Worried, the other three try and look for clues, stumbling across a strange track called "Untitled" in their shared folder. There, they find Mafuyu, who is angered by the three's intrusion into her SEKAI since she just wants to disappear, and knows the other three do just as much. Miku forces them out of SEKAI by Mafuyu's request, but not before asking the others to save her.

Ena is frustrated by Mafuyu's actions. She's openly jealous of the talent Mafuyu possessed and her seeming lack of care for having everything she's wanted. Mizuki understands her feeling lost in the pressure to be what everyone else wants her to be, since they've experienced similar things when it comes to their presentation. Kanade just wants to write a song to save somebody since it was her own work that brought her father to overwork himself to the point of hospitalization.

Kanade decides to not give up and write a song that will save Mafuyu. She returns to the SEKAI with Mizuki, but Mafuyu feels that she'll never find herself no matter what they all do. Ena arrives in SEKAI to yell at her, and Mizuki and Kanade affirm they also don't want Mafuyu to disappear. Eventually, through Kanade's selfish wish to keep composing until she saves Mafuyu, she decides to keep hanging on, realizing her true feelings of wanting to be saved.

Chapter 0: Kanade reflects on how happy her fathers music had made her, but feels insurmountable guilt over the fact her own compositions drove her father to hospitalization. She vows to keep composing in order to save someone. In the present day, K works on a song with Yuki when her monitor suddenly flashes, transporting her to the Empty SEKAI. Miku asks Kanade to help "her" find her true feelings before she is forced back into the real world. Kanade believes she simply had a strange dream, but denies herself more rest to keep on composing.

Chapter 1: Nightcord at 25:00 is introduced as a mysterious music circle with hard-hitting, emotional songs through social media posts. After recieving a check-in from her grandmother, Kanade prepares a meal for herself. She then goes back to join the rest of the circle on voice call, introducing each character, their personality, and their role.

Chapter 2: Nightcord stops working around 4 am. The next morning, Mafuyu bids her mother farewell before heading to school. Ena struggles with a drawing while her selfie gets lots of comments, wishing her art account got the same attention. Mizuki gets a call from their teacher about supplementary classes while putting together both an animation and some cute outfits. Kanade worries about her father while checking the comments on Nightcord's most recent video. She remembers her promise to make songs that save people when suddenly, her monitor fills with Miku's face, asking her to come quickly.

Chapter 3: On their next call, Enanan asks if any of them have heard of a mysterious new composer called OWN. She descibes their music as impactful, like K's, but colder. Enanan wishes her art could be like that, but Yuki reassures her that her drawings are perfect for K's songs. After Amia and Enanan leave the call, K and Yuki listen to OWN's works. They're both impressed, but K feels like she recognizes bits of it. She asks if Yuki wrote them, but Yuki denies it. They reminisce on the origins of their troupe, when Yuki mentions she felt like K's song had saved her. However, she exits before K can ask her to elaborate on it. Mafuyu clicks through OWN's songs on her own, confused by what she had said earlier. She is also revealed to be OWN.

Chapter 4: Mafuyu's teacher asks if she wants to submit her essay to a contest. Her classmates all praise her before asking for help with homework. They're impressed by Mafuyu's natural talent and humbleness and ask if there's anything Mafuyu wants to do for herself, to which she denies.

Back home, Mafuyu logs on to Nightcord to find Amia already working. The call is interrupted when Mafuyu's mother comes in and asks how the study session went. She's proud of Mafuyu for helping, but also wishes Mafuyu would spend time with more people who will challenge her. Once her mom leaves, Amia comments on how it was rude of her to say Yuki should pick better friends, but decides to brush it off.

Over dinner, Mafuyu's mom asks how her entrance exams are going. She hands Mafuyu applications to a bunch of medical schools while saying Mafuyu is free to go to wherever she wishes. That night, Mafuyu doubts if there even is such a thing she truly wants to do. She just wants to stay in SEKAI forever.

Chapter 5: Kanade listens to more of OWN's music before going to visit her father. He's still in poor condition, but slowly beginning to improve. She then logs onto Nightcord with Enanan and Amia, but Yuki is mysteriously absent. A week passes, and Yuki is still missing. They decide to try and figure out a way to contact her. While digging through files, they find a new one called "Untitled" belonging to Yuki.

Chapter 6: The three are transported to SEKAI and meet each other face to face for the first time. They wander around, but only find more emptiness. Suddenly, Miku finds them, explains what a SEKAI is, and asks them to save "her". Mafuyu then appears, having been looking for Miku.

Chapter 7: Mafuyu asks to be left alone. Kanade questions if she's going to continue working as OWN, surprising all three of them. Ena is also frustrated about her not saying anything before. Mafuyu wants to quit Nightcord at 25:00 because even that wasn't enough to save her. She wants to disappear. Mafuyu asks Miku to send the other three out of SEKAI before commenting how they want to disappear more than anyone else. Miku obliges, but wishes they'll find a way to save her.

Chapter 8: Back in the real world, K, Enanan, and Amia discuss the strangeness of what just happened. Amia suggests they log off to figure out what to do the next day. Kanade feels guilty that she couldn't save Mafuyu, and Ena is jealous that she got so many views and now doesn't even seem to care about them. Ena's father, a famous painter, walks in, and she lashes out at him. Akito walks in to check on her. Ena continues her drawing, frustrated that Mafuyu of all people was right about her wanting to disappear.

Chapter 9: Mizuki goes to supplemental classes and overhears students gossiping about them. While walking out, two strike conversation with them, one asking why they dress like that. Mizuki responds simply with because they want to. Mizuki walks to the mall, where they overhear two students who had just earlier supported them questioning why they're like this, just as the others had. Mizuki acknowledges that Mafuyu might be right about them wanting to disappear, but they're not so sure that's truly what Mafuyu wants.

Chapter 10: Enanan and Amia suggest they find a replacement for Yuki, but K decides to take on all her roles herself. Kanade collapses since she hasn't eaten since the day before. While watching OWN's new song, she remembers the past. She had wanted to write songs just like her father did. He was struggling with a new song, so she had suggested a new part for it.

Chapter 11: The memory continues. Her father ended up winning the contest, with Kanade's section being the highlight. Two months later, he still struggles to write new music, so Kanade wrote a song to cheer him up. The next day, she found him collapsed on the floor from exhaustion. She also found his diary, where he talked about Kanade's natural gift for music. This made her grow upset, since she believed she's the whole reason her father ended up like this, and now she wanted nothing more than to disappear. In her despair, she accidentally knocked over her mother's music box, a gift from her father. Kanade decided to never ever stop composing, in order to save someone.

Chapter 12: Back in the present, Kanade decides to go to the SEKAI and wallow. She hears Miku humming the song that first led Mafuyu to her. Miku explains that that song has been in SEKAI since the beginning, and that it must have touched Mafuyu in some way. Miku theorizes that it connected with Mafuyu since she's also in despair. Miku knows Mafuyu doesn't want to disappear and asks Kanade to help her through music.

Chapter 13: Mafuyu recalls some scattered memories of middle school. She had told her mother she wants to become a nurse that helps people, to which her mother suggested she becomes a more prestigious doctor instead. She decides to do that instead, since it would make her parents happy. Her classmates also believe Mafuyu would make a great doctor since she's so talented. Her mother had bought a celebratory cake, but Mafuyu can't taste it. She also realizes she doesn't quite know what she likes anymore, nor who she is.

Chapter 14: Amia joins the Nightcord call with Enanan, but K is now also absent. Enanan decides they don't need Yuki after all. Amia tells her about the conversation she had overheard that day, theorizing Yuki's the kind of person to go along with what other people think is right, to the point where it became overwhelming. They both get a notification of OWN mass uploading songs that have grown even darker.

Chapter 15: K joins the call and declares her intent to write a song to save Yuki. Amia asks to join K, but Enanan refuses. K begins composing the song, but begins to question if she's only going to end up hurting Mafuyu. However, she remembers Miku's words and continues on. K finishes the song, gets approval from both Amia and Enanan, and heads into SEKAI.

Chapter 16: At school, Mafuyu starts slipping from her "good girl" mask. At home, she finds her synthesizer laying out. Her mother was planning on throwing it out since she doesn't ever use it, also offering to introduce her to a private tutor. Mafuyu decides to give up and goes to SEKAI. K and Amia go to SEKAI, and Enanan reflects on the situation more, deciding that it's "unfair" for Mafuyu to disappear.

Chapter 17: Kanade and Mizuki confront Mafuyu to show her the song. Miku doesn't listen when Mafuyu asks her to force the others out of SEKAI, so Mafuyu hits Kanade's phone out of her hand. Kanade explains how she understands Mafuyu's desire to disappear, revealing her father's tragedy. Mizuki asks if it's really Kanade's fault, to which Kanade affirms she truly believes it is. Mafuyu calls Kanade out for being selfish in her desire to save others, but Kanade decides she doesn't care about that.

Chapter 18: Ena arrives in SEKAI to tell Mafuyu she's jealous of how talented she is, and even though she hates her, she wants her to live and keep creating more and more. Mizuki says Mafuyu doesn't have to do what others want her to, but still, they understand what it's like to try and change who you are to fit in. They don't want Mafuyu to disappear, either. Mafuyu truly believes the thing she is searching for simply does not exist, despite it all, and just wants to be done. Kanade says she'll keep composing, keep living until she finds a song that saves Mafuyu. Mafuyu calls her crazy, but that's Kanade's selfish wish. Mafuyu decides to keep hanging on just a little longer.

Chapter 19: Miku reveals that SEKAI's feelings are taking the form of a song: Composing the Future. Mafuyu realizes her true feelings weren't to disappear; rather, she wants to be saved. All four of them return to the real world. The next day, Kanade goes and tells her father the big news.

Chapter 20: All four of them meet at a local diner, officially introducing themselves in real life for the first time. Mafuyu has also stopped masking around the others. They order food, and Mizuki calls for an official toast to Nightcord at 25:00. That night, Yuki texts K. She'd finally listened to the song and thanked K for finding her.

Virtual Singer Chapter 1 (Pre-Chapter 0): Mafuyu comes to the SEKAI to compose. Miku says she must enjoy doing so, but Mafuyu doesn't know. Miku wonders if there's anything she can do to help Mafuyu find her true feelings, but can't think of anything. Miku starts singing a song that Mafuyu recognizes.

Virtual Singer Chapter 2 (After Chapter 7): Miku questions if it was the right move to force the other three out of SEKAI. Miku starts singing one of Mafuyu's songs, but she's surprised to find it doesn't sound quite like what was written; rather than sounding desperate, it sounds like Miku wants to be saved. Mafuyu asks to hear the song from the other day again.

Virtual Singer Chapter 3 (During Chapter 16): Mafuyu tells Miku she's done writing music. She asks Miku to stop singing that song since it didn't work. Miku asks if Mafuyu wants to close her eyes, but every time Mafuyu's done that before, she's only ever thought of ways she can make other people happy. Mafuyu breaks down.

Virtual Singer Chapter 4 (After Chapter 20): Mafuyu arrives at SEKAI to give Miku a song. Miku comments that it feels less lonely than before. Mafuyu also reveals that she's going to stop writing as OWN. Ena, Mizuki, and Kanade join them in SEKAI, so Miku asks if they'd all like to sing.

• Akito is someone who hates showing weaknesses, thinking he must put up a tough front so people won't look down on him or underestimate him.

• He despises being weak especially if it's in front of you. Akito often thinks he should be like a knight for you and always be the one that you rely on and not him relying on you.

• That is why he hates crying. It shows a weaker side of him that he wishes no one to see, even you.

The once bright sky grew glimmer, as the sky grew graphite. The water dripping from the clouds landed on the sad puddles on the ground before they could be filled. They had already depleted. Even if it was rather gloomy, a certain house still remained warm and bright despite it being cold and dark as a pair of students were each in others arms. Nothing other than the soft droplets of the rain and sobs could be heard in the household, as the rain drops started getting heavier so did the crying as more tears were being shed but Y/n didn't mind, as they continued patting Akito's head as he continued crying in their arms.

As Akito started ranting about his day, like how he and Ena got into another fight it was a rather serious one as well. Though fights often happen in the Shinonome household, this one ended differently from the others as both shinonome siblings said rather insensitive things about each other due to the heat of the moment. Oh how Akito envied you and your family, siblings who cared about you and parents who paid attention to you. Of course, even if he and his father don't get into fights that didn't mean their relationship was good it was far from it to say the least his father barely paid attention to him and Ena when they were kids and mostly focused on his job as an artist.

You knew about Akito's struggles both at his home and his dream of surpassing RAD WEEKEND, he got many comments about not sticking out from his group and was rather used to be compared to Toya or Kohane even though the latter had no music background she still managed to stood out from the group and though he doesn't hate his group members that doesn't mean he gets rather sick of people just coming up to him so they could know more about An, Kohane or Toya. Perhaps that was why he was shocked to know that you actually wanted to know more about him and not the other members, he decided to put up a front not really fully trusting you yet but as time grew he saw how genuine you were and now that both of you were dating he was now sobbing in your arms a side he never shows to anyone even he doesn't show his weak side to Toya.

• Akito enjoys it whenever you comfort him with words or actions, as simple as hearing him out can really make him wonder how he got someone as great as you!

• Hugging him and hearing what he has to say as well as throwing in your own advice always makes him feel better especially if it was a sarcastic remark about the person he was ranting.
