This is a female critically endangered Siberian crane:

She’s beautiful, elegant and strong, but she’s also a total bastard who hates my guts, tries to rip off my shoes and enjoys smashing the brains out of any unfortunate chipmunks that get into her enclosure.....
enrichment I guess?

Well this is different, it's not (human) digital! Got inspired by the vibrant colors of the Palawan Peacock Pheasant (never knew these existed). I tried my best at realism but ehhh, I'm too heavy handed. “FROM DOOM TO BOOM”
by Collin van der Sluijs
At age 12 Collin van der Sluijs was already studying old painting techniques in Goes, the Netherlands. After completing his formal education he moved to the south of the Netherlands and creates work he describes as “personal pleasures and struggles in daily life,” and that @colossal says “frequently examines themes of the natural world such as the cycle of life.” In Chicago in 2016 for his first U.S. solo show at @VerticalGallery van der Sluijs found some time to paint a couple of walls, this large wall on S Michigan Ave painted as part of Columbia College’s Wabash Arts Corridor, with the assistance of @j.renda_artist. Providing valuable research assistance on endangered and threatened birds of Chicago, Jennifer Hoffman reports that the Yellow-headed Blackbird on the left side has already disappeared from Chicago and the Red-headed Woodpecker is at risk of the same fate.  @collinvandersluijs/  @wacchicago/

Enjoy this rare sight! Nests of Araripe Manakin found in newly acquired habitat in Brazil ― exciting news about a species that still numbers fewer than 1,000 birds. Proud to work with @ongaquasis to conserve this species. https://abcbirds.org/araripe-manakin-habitat-pays-off/ . I am finally able to post my submission for the Cape Parrot Project. Acrylic on canvas. The exhibition was opened last Sunday at the Museum in East London, South Africa to raise awareness of the critically endangered Cape Parrot, which is the only endemic parrot in South Africa. This exhibition has been delayed several times due to the pandemic but finally opened to the public. Wish I could have been there to see this festival display. #parrot#capeparrot #endangeredbirds #eastlondon #southafrica#birds#festival #painting#acrylic#art#artspeaks #collaboration #abun #artistsunite #instartist#galleryartist#localartist #parrotsoninstagram (at East London, Eastern Cape) https://www.instagram.com/p/CdptX36vRTL/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Day 7 of #yogabeasts! 🦄 It's #pigeonpose or #kingpigeonpose aka #ekapadarajakapotasana (a tongue twister)! Today's humble pose stands for all the #endangeredbirds: there are approximately 1500 endangered species, 900 in the United States. And it is estimated that one of every eight bird species in the world is at risk of extinction and in the U.S. and England it is closer to one in four! Quite impressive, and so sad. In some cases, the loss of a complete bird species may be inevitable because they are too sensitive to rapid changes that cannot be reversed in time to recover, while in other cases simple changes and help from conservation initiatives could lead to population recoveries. For instance, if you have a backyard, you could put in there some birds' refugees or a feeding-trough! And if you are lucky enough to live in those regions of the world with tropical birds, try to raise awareness in your local population! . 🌺Hosts: @marastina @shhjustgowithit @yogawithjib @norayogini . 🌈Sponsors: @inspiritcollective (my top) @arctic.flamingo.leggings (my leggings) @asanamat.it (my yogamat) @imaladivale . 🌍List of the poses: Day 1 - cat-cow\cow’s face✔️ Day 2 - tiger's pose✔️ Day 3 - fish\lord of fishes✔️ Day 4 - rabbit pose✔️ Day 5 - deer pose✔️ Day 6 - firefly pose✔️ Day 7 - pigeon\king pigeon✔️ Day 8 - elephant trunk Day 9 - monkey\half monkey . . . . . . . . . . . #igyogafamily #igyogachallenge #augustchallenge #animalyoga #loveandalliscoming #loveyourplanet #earthlove (presso Terenten / Terento)

“The Whooping Crane in its Sacred Space” (for sale see below!) . The whooping crane is native to North America and is the most endangered of the 15 species of cranes (which is saying a lot since most cranes are endangered or threatened). This crane suffers from territory loss as many do. Only two migrating flocks exist in the wild today. I got to see this lovely rarity at the #internationalcranefoundation in Wisconsin this summer. . NOV 14-16 are the dates for Belmont’s Annual Student Art Sale! This work will be there to purchase! . #whoopingcrane #crane #endangeredspecies #endangeredbirds #artsale #studentart #watercolorpainting #watercolor #landscapepainting https://www.instagram.com/p/BpfH0y-hBnN/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=111xrh33lf86c

Tallest North American bird, an endangered crane species. Along with the sandhill crane, whooping cranes are one of only two crane species native to North America. The whooping crane's lifespan is estimated to be 22 to 24 years in the wild

Art at First Presents “Save the Earth” Artists Respond to the Climate Crises Opened on line, Wednesday, October 7 This is both a #FBF and a new show post! I’m very pleased to have my work included in this current show with First Presbyterian Church in the West Village. The show can be viewed at www.fpcnyc.org/outreach-service/programs/art-at-first The two paintings in the show are both from my 1995 “Endangered Species Series”. Resistance to the work back then was due to the subject and the cross shape, so works from this series have not been shown that often. There are 11 paintings and some drawings included in the series. On my website at www.carolynoberst.com/endangered-species-1995 if you want to see the whole group. After studying about the onslaught of endangered species, I created this series to call attention to these devastating environmental issues. The canvases are cross shaped in order to amplify the message. The cross shape was intended as a signifier of seriousness and urgency. “Endangered Birds”, oil on shaped canvas, 44-1/2 x 32 inches. (Bottom is cropped in this post, not quite the right shape for Instagram.) “Endangered Puzzle Sunflowers”, oil on shaped canvas, 22 x 20 inches. #endangeredspecies #endangeredbirds #endangeredflowers #contemporarypainting #artatfirst #carolynoberst #painting #womenartists #painter #figureativeart #contemporaryart #contemporarypainting #imagebasedpainting #nyartist #nyartistcircle #artistsofinstagram #nyartists #femaleartists #womanartists #artfare #antecedentprojects #iloveyourworkpodcast #figurativepainting #abstractpainting #ante_mag #createmagazine #woartblog #yigalleryny #quietlunch #woartblog @ninamdivan @nyartistscircle @artfare @ante_mag @audrall @elijah_wheat_showroom @projectmaven1 @juliemckimprojects @yigalleryny @katiehectorart @cmasseyart @anna_karenina @akeemduncan @quietlunch @nyartistscircle @artfare @oberst.carolyn @iloveyourworkpodcast @createmagazine @melissajoseph_art @projectmaven1 @juliemckimprojects @theroyalatrsoaa @woartblog @akeemduncan @the_artist_advisory @annlandi33 (at New York, New York) https://www.instagram.com/p/CGanE9-FXFp/?igshid=1mheujkaqksb1
