The thing is that while both Gladio and Ignis have servant positions and Gladio is more clearly associated with the weapon role, there is more ties around Gladio that do not unilaterally tie him to Noctis. In a way, the fact that the whole Amicitia name is branded as the king's shield de-objectifies the concept: Gladio is born to serve, the way his father was born to serve, but that is a relationship they have together, and Gladio has ties with Cor too. His DLC, while also tied to his worth as a servant, is still mostly something he does for himself and his father, separated from the group. Overall, while it is fun to examine the lengths of his devotion and obedience, the story diffuses the objectifying nature of it, making him an element of the crown rather than a guard dog for Noctis alone.

Ignis gets nothing of all that. While he is not sworn servant at birth, he is sworn young enough that the difference isn't felt. He has a family, we are told, but it never becomes relevant. The story doesnt give him anyone. Instead, everything about him is made about Noctis - every flash back and anime episode and DLC, is made about his use to Noctis as a person and Noctis' bodily integrity especially. And he is willing to sacrifice his own integrity for him.

This is the compelling argument about objectification--not that he is a weapon, or a guard, or a savior, but that he is also the cook and the driver and the guy who cleans the apartment. and nothing else. nothing but an extension of, not even Noctis' will, but simply Noctis' existence. So unwilling to exist in a reality that doesn't include him, so incapable of it, that he gets an alternate reality just so he can save - and continue to serve - his prince.

My 2022 art summary

I have been very busy for years. My drawing skill still needs much more practicing so I always need a long time to finish each piece. After returning to make arts again in 2018, I ended up having very few pieces each year, unable to make an art summary, until 2021. I'm so glad that, although I could not finish one art every month, but I could finish enough arts to make such summary in 2022. 😅 Now I'm in tumblr and I will share the summary and all full arts.

Always thinking of you

Quietly leaving the flying ships cabin, the nocturnal feline summoner made his way towards the ships railing. The night left him feeling anxious, wanting to move and explore, and learn the tales of all the stars and constellations. Sadly, deep blue eyes gazed heavenward. Those shining stars reminded him of his bonded, and the one who he had to keep away from...for now. The miqo'te gazed down at the simple ring on his hand. The gem shimmering in the moonlight. The light reflecting on it made it seem like it was forged from Menphina's ice itself.

"Ignis...." Are you gazing at the same sky as I am right now?

For the last few years they had to be separated because of conflicts, and of course the mad man chasing him down, and his father being influenced by an Aeon... Ignis had agreed to stay behind and play the part of loyal tracker for the Caelum family. However, before the miqo'te had run away he and Ignis had a bonding ceremony. Their rings able to connect them...even when far apart.

"'Wherever you are..all always come to your side'...that's what you told me, right Ignis?" Closing his eyes he pictured his beloved Elezen, lifting his hand up to kiss the cool gem. He craved the white mages touch, and the comforting and familiar presence that came with him there. The fire and heat that rumbled beneath that cool facade, and sharp green eyes the color Nophica's forests. His tail twitched with remembrance, but sadly ...nothing would come of it. 'Ignis...are you thinking of me too?'

Miles away, standing in the amphitheater of Gridania, the Elezen mage gazed up at the constellations he and his beloved had memorized hundreds of times in their youth. Silently he removed his gloved, left hand, and gazed at the ring that stood out against his damaged flesh. Picturing his bonded, he lifted his hand up to kiss the band reverently. 'Noctis...I love you...always.'

They shared the same sky. Their souls bonded by the vows of bonding, and the love that strengthened in their youth to now. No matter how far apart they will feel one another, and shall always be a hearts wish away to go to their lovers side.

Ship Bias for Ignis!

Ignis x Noctis ( First crush? First crush. )

Ignis x Gladio ( It won't let me put another #1, but I ship this EQUALLY with IgNoct. Gladio definitely awakened some things, and is the one who knows Ignis the most out of everyone, even Noctis. )

Ignis x Ravus ( and their ship name is beautiful. Fleurentia!? GORGEOUS! I refuse to believe Episode Ignis wasn't a love letter to this ship right alongside IgNoct. )

Ignis x Zack Fair ( ENTIRELY because of @the-nexus . It's the crossover ship of the century and I ADORE them. )

Sorta kinda Ignis x Prompto? It's definitely the ' opposites attract ' ship, but past writings of it kind of... exploded with past partners, and not in a good way, so it kind of soured my view of the ship. That's being mended now, though, with new partners whom I very much appreciate! <3

selfishly, pettily (it's the secondmost ship of the chocobros rn Tega), greedily, I want more ignoct art across the board. But I guess specifically... idk, I want stuff catered to my tastes and that means I have to make it. More android AUs (I've read two I think and they were good), more selkie AUs!, more of the good thing ie Ignis utterly devoted to Noctis to the point of destruction.

Probably more of the ladies. They're kinda small in number, as this is a story about the four boys and their brotherhood. The CANON sleeps on these girls, we were supposed to get DLC episodes for Aranea and Luna! But I don't see enough Iris Amicitia being the daemon-slayer she becomes during the timeskip, since the creators didn't want to/didn't have time to model her a timeskip model even though they made one for baby boy Talcott

I'm not innocent of this, for sure. I love drawing the boys, I haven't drawn nearly as much of the girls. I know there are people who are dedicated fans of the girls, from what little we're given of them! This is just my perception of the fandom from the window I'm looking through, and it's not like Squeenix made it easy in the first place.

(This is a personal taste opinion, but I think fandom might also be resting on their laurels regarding Prompto sometimes.)

Day 10: Episode Ignis

He holds his arm to his stomach and bows, perfectly proper, as he’s trained since childhood to do. When the dutiful seconds are up, he lifts his eyes to the throne. To his king, long may he reign. Each time he looks upon that face, it’s like seeing it for the first time in ten years all over again; he takes his time recommitting each smile line to memory.

For royalty, Noctis’s expression is casual. Relaxed, as if this is the same routine they’ve followed each morning for years and will continue to follow for as long as they live. And they will live. He’s made sure of it. Ignis’s arm falls to his side, and he stands tall.

“Your Majesty,” he addresses, and revels in the way it brings a spark to Noct’s eyes. Exasperated by the formal address, but fondly. He knows. Not just what the mere freedom of sitting in a room cost, but the depth of all that Ignis is imploring him to receive. 

Noctis opens his mouth to speak just as Ignis’s one good eye opens to darkness. It’s as though the power went out unexpectedly–and in a way it did. Whatever magic allowed him to glimpse this possibility has run its course. So has the possibility itself. If Ignis had only made the right choices, gauged the situation more wisely. If he hadn’t let his fear get the best of him, then…

The Carbuncle statue is cold in his hand. Well, then that might have happened. A miraculous win at the Crystal, a fruitful decade of research, and all of them at their king’s side in the end. It would have all led to that moment: Noctis on the throne, a kind and benevolent king.

Noctis is dead. Ignis had clenched his bloody shirt with dirty fingers, searching hopelessly for a pulse, a breath, a sign of any sort. Instead, he was forced to relinquish his hold for good.

It’s foolish to believe otherwise. Ignis has placed his whole life firmly on the foundation of science and reason. A person dies, and they never come back. Even with all the wonders of magic and the Crystal, wishing cannot reverse this fate. This death in particular had been fated long ago by the most powerful of wills. And yet…

He thinks of the spark in Noctis’s eyes. The Noctis that he just looked upon, confident and regal and heart pumping with a magic embedded beyond any gift of his family. He thinks of the soft edges of Noctis’s smile.

“A power greater than that of the six.” The astrals were not the most powerful beings in the cosmos. If the vision that the messenger gifted him were any indication, Noctis could defy their wills. He’d have the strength to carry on after the battle, to thrive despite the crushing weight of his heritage and enemies. 

And maybe if the vision were the least bit plausible–just maybe–Ignis could be stronger, too.

listen people are allowed to not ship something that is 1000% their prerogative but?? if you straight up tell me you dont understand how people ship ignoct i will without a doubt believe you either have something against mlm ships OR that you haven't played any of the dlc or watched brotherhood OR just straight up have not been paying attention to ignis as a character or the way he and noctis interact with each other (verbally and nonverbally).

ignis lives and breathes for noctis. everything he does or says, every decision he makes is done with noctis in mind. and no, it isn't just because of his obligation to fulfil his duty to the crown; it's because of his genuine love and affection (platonic or otherwise, it doesn't matter) for noctis himself. when everything goes to shit and the kingdom falls, ignis continues to give noctis everything he has, and is prepared to give his own life to protect him--and nearly does !! the entire alternate ending of episode ignis (and the game) is made possible because and only because of ignis' devotion to noctis. ignis is granted the power that is only reserved for KINGS because that and that alone made him worthy to wield it. the most prominent emotion in his heart is his love for noctis and THAT is why no ship will ever compare to ignoct for me.
