To Swallow, or Not to Swallow? (Equality in Sexual Experiences)

Q: Semen is mucus, you know like snot or buggers. I don't expect my girlfriend to swallow if she gets me off doing oral. She enjoys returning the favor after I give her oral, but I don't expect her to swallow. Is this really a thing for women, to swallow semen? I wouldn't swallow semen or put it in my mouth. Do guys expect their wife or girlfriend to swallow? I am probably naive or too vanilla to understand. lol

A: I came up with a saying for this exact situation: "Girls who spit should be quarantined." In my book, spitting is more than just inconsiderate: it's downright disrespectful. Mutual consent to engage in sexual activity implies that all parties involved agree to share in the experience. In this sense, we are equals.

It's much more socially acceptable for women to spit than for men to stop before a female has an orgasm. It's just plain physically easier to do, but, with the roles switched, the situation may appear quite different. If during sex a man refused to let me squirt on him, I wouldn't get to have vaginal orgasms that were physically caused by his body (penis, fingers, etc.) at all. Yes, he could pull out and use a toy on me for squirting, IF I can reliably control my orgasms. In my experience, however, I would prefer not to have to stop pre-orgasm. It feels better to me physically and emotionally to be brought to ecstasy without unnecessary pauses and restarts with different objects, no matter how fast or well-executed the transition is. The natural rhythm of our bodies during sex is an important part of the overall satisfaction of having shared such an intimate experience. I personally prefer to achieve sexual completion with another human, and I'm fairly certain many people share this sentiment.

I get that not all women squirt, but consistently and habitually stopping before one person's orgasm seems to me to be destined to eventually culminate in feelings of inadequacy and neglect (along with a host of other self-deprecating emotions) on the part of the person who is always denied an uninterrupted sexual experience. If both parties do go into their arrangement with the intention of having a fulfilling experience as equals, why, then, would one or both parties choose to throw away the culmination of their efforts that they've worked together to achieve, whether it results from a long and intense night or just from a quickie? And who's to say where to draw the line regarding the pre-cum and natural vaginal mucous that act as lubrication thoughout? Should we simply not have sex because bodily fluids are 'gross'? Our bodies are built to get a little sticky sometimes, if they weren't, sex would be painful! On some level, I doubt that any relationship that involves spitting is the most considerate partnership, as it literally stops one party from freely and fully sharing in the pleasure of sexual activity.

The biological purpose and timing of mucous creation is different for each sex. We cannot help that vaginal mucous has evolved to protect our bodies but also to provide lubrication to facilitate sex and impregnation. Male fluids provide some lubrication but primarily mark the completion of the sexual act as a means for impregnation. It's not his fault that his body excretes fluid at the end of a round of sex, it's just how he was built. You don't see him scraping vaginal fluids out and tossing them aside as they culminate cause they're 'icky' but...if your partner is not letting you squirt when you like to or is denying you orgasms of certain types against your wishes...all of the above does apply to you as well.

In my opinion, it should feel good to make another person feel good. If it doesn't, maybe that's not the person or relationship for you. Anyone who holds themselves above another in this way may need to reconsider their motivations and the implications of their actions. A woman takes, receives, and shares in all the pleasures of a relationship, a girl thinks she's too good or doesn't care enough to fully participate.

However, if you both agree that spitting is fine after having considered how both parties feel about trying both spitting and swallowing, more power to you. I certainly don't understand it, but I'm sure it's possible to mutually agree on spitting. My experience has led me to the opinion that physiologically and psychologically, most men much prefer the satisfaction of knowing that the results of their 'excitement' have been willingly and even happily recieved, rather than simply tossed away as if he might as well have just used a tissue, alone.

Treat yourself as you would like to be treated. Enjoy each other. Love fully and deeply, whatever that means to you.
