I've been having a hard time getting back into drawing, so here's some cute doodles from a while ago that I forgot to share.
There is no denying that we live in a scary world, where leadership and authority is abused. It feels so easy to give up right now. I wish I knew the right words to help make it all better. All I can offer is this: Deep breath, chin up. Tomorrow is another day. I wish you the best.

When I first typed this up, I didn't realize that it wouldn't really be visible since I was shadowbanned sooooooo I'm reblogging again now that I'm free because the world needs to know about @elizmanderson's books!
it's Pride Month now so all day long all my social feeds were filled with my friends going "hey it's Pride Month! I'm queer! please buy my queer books!" and I thought about how I am also supposed to be doing that and I'm just too fuckin tired
I mean I'm sure I'll do it at some point, or at minimum I'll participate in PrideBookFest on Bluesky because that can be kinda fun and it comes with prompts and I got a bunch of stuff ready in advance so that'll help but like
why aren't my books selling themselves this month so I can have a goddamn break. homophobic tbh

I am Kareman Dohan، From besieged Gaza
I record this message in the 21st century, specifically in the year 2025, fully aware and in sound mind. I hereby testify, confess, and declare that a criminal entity—ruled by violent gangs—has revived the horrors of Nazism, and has even surpassed them. For over 600 days, it has committed one of the greatest atrocities of our modern age, in a place called Gaza. They murdered our children before our men, our women before our youth. They destroyed homes, displaced families, and starved the innocent. And this brutal campaign has not stopped—not even as I speak these words. The world today counts more than 8.2 billion people, Yet not a single force has been able to stop the bloodshed, or protect the defenseless.
I call upon every free soul, every conscience still alive, Spread this message far and wide.
Speak up. Act.
Support my people. Support my family.
Let your silence not be another weapon used against us.
Silence is complicity.
Solidarity is a duty.

I think my favourite concept in Dunmeshi is that... There is an urgency in most of us to sacrifice our peace of mind when push comes to shove. Perhaps to worry means that you care about the emergency at hand (whatever level of emergency that is subjectively) and we pinpoint focus on the task and everything else disappears. Our sleep and diet patterns change even though these activities are pivotal for our dopamine systems and functionally make us feel healthier and help us think clearer. It's self-punishing, the "grind" so to speak: to persevere we have to forget the self and think solely of the object.
But Dunmeshi doesn't let you get away with that. These people's friend is captive in a monster's body, their world is literally ending, and still they sit down to eat. To eat is to live. Only living things eat and it is the privilege of the living. Yes, there is a crisis. Yes they are upset and heartbroken and distressed. But they still focus on the food: the very thing that sustains you and gives you energy to think, to move, to keep going. A moment of gratitude offered to life by actually, consciously indulging in it. They aren't bad people for eating while Falin's suffering, no. It is simply unfeasible to give parts of yourself to a situation while hoping to gain twice as much back. Just take the time to make food, think about how delicious it looks, and eat. Even if you fail, you need to eat. Even if you succeed, you need to eat. You need to live life no matter what. You need to enjoy it no matter what. It is never "inappropriate" to just live your life.

People who are oppressed and traumatized die several deaths and are reborn multiple times. Mickey 17 is Mickey Barnes' greatest desire to live. Mickey 18 is Mickey Barnes' deep rage and violence; his reaction to being continuously ground under the boot of the higher class. No one can be expendible, because none of us are made to be expendible, yet some lives are treated as expendible. Some lives have less value than the upper class' "taste". 18, in the end, regains power through self-sacrifice—this is the extent of what he can do to free 17, his purest, most child-like desire to live. The traumatized fight back eventually; 17 channels 18 when he dreams of the wife printing herself and her husband, when he sees the bowl of blood (where did it come from? Who did she kill?) and this is his nightmare because he feels like his new found freedom is once again at risk; that he once again needs to be brutalized by tragedy. But he knows he has to resist and he finds strength in 18. "Fuck off". This movie has such heart and is a tribute to those of us who are crushed by the ones above them with more money; more power. Robert's portrayal of 17 is beautiful and personifies the best of humanity. It's just so well made and earnest and I'm so disappointed that so many of the reviews seem to have completely missed the point, instead failing to find satisfaction in some superficial perception of what makes a movie artsy.
